TESTED: Can You Beat Minecraft: Dungeons Without Artifacts or Abilities?

But yeah basically i’m going to be recording this entire thing i’m going to string the entire thing and if it goes well maybe we’ll make a video from it you never know hello i’m fbx toy cat and artifacts are the spell equivalents found in minecraft dungeons that have some effects that

Range from useful to absolutely essential and you launch relight on these when beating any level found in the game this begs the question can you beat the entirety of minecraft dungeons without using a single artifact whether it counts as a magic one or not i decided

The best way to find out would be to try it myself and so today this is a run of minecraft dungeons with no pets no magic no artifacts of any form and enjoyed the journey because i certainly did the creeper woods were actually a surprisingly straightforward level at

This point in the game you’d only have a couple of weak artifacts anyway so most of the level was just spent pretty much one hit killing mobs uh going through everything and doing it just as i would in a normal run with the only real threat being at the

Very end of the level two creepers spawned directly on top of me and without health potion i probably would have been destroyed by their blasts so yeah this was the same level as it probably would all be with just the tiniest little addition of challenge that wasn’t too much

But then we decided to skip straight ahead to the cacti canyon and this presents our first real issue because the level is at 1.7 times difficulty because difficulty is based on your gear level and 50 of our gear slots are unfilled this means that despite having a pretty decent weapon

Our power level is woefully low it’s just free and our first death happens in this level as a result of that fact um the cacti canyon was mostly just this overwhelming uh you know jump in difficulty from being able to kill things in one hit and not being too

Threatened to everything is coming at me all at once and i really miss the artifacts here more than ever and there are so many places where i just realized that having an artifact of any form could have saved me from a near you know death situation or from a

Uh dicey situation at the very least and yeah this level made me realize something that’s going to be important if you ever want to play minecraft dungeons about artifacts you need to realize just how powerful your sword and your bow especially really can be i’ve said this since day one of dungeons

But your bow is basically its own superpower i mean i picked up a decent crossbow during this level and for the boss fight for all of the enemies that spawn i just decided i’d sit back and just let them be killed from a distance and for the vast

Majority of non-ranged enemies and even most ranged enemies don’t have a range as good as yours um that will work just fine you can fire your arrows in there and if you save your arrows for the dicey situations it kind of works like saving a heart artifact or an extra health

Potion it is a really really powerful thing to just be able to arrange things off and not give them the chance to hurt you back like they can when you use a melee weapon either way though the cacti canyon was complete and we had made our way through

Two stages which meant next up was the redstone mines so the redstone mines are one of the more challenging levels in minecraft dungeons because of the inclusion of mob spawners which if you don’t know how to deal with can really easily overwhelm you and about artifacts that was going to be

One of my key concerns but the one benefit we had on our side was that my power level finally matched the minimum requirement for the level which means that uh you know the enemies weren’t scaled quite as high above me and the other thing that was my saving

Grace for this entire run actually was the fact that on this level i found a unique butterfly crossbow this only dealt a pathetic eight damage like seriously i can’t overstate how low this is compared to the thousands that some bowls do and even your starting bow in this game does 10

To 25 um but you know having eight damage was a trade-off worth having for the high fire rate and the unique ability to target two enemies at once effectively doing 16 damage but doing that multiple times a second i had myself a little bit of a machine

Gun and this was going to be useful for my strategy or kill all the big things using the bow um however i did get myself into one particularly dangerous situation in the mind room uh so a lot of enemies were following me but one of the key things to keep in

Mind when you’ve got a lot of enemies on you is if you don’t have crowd control as one of your free artifacts and i don’t have any artifacts so of course i don’t you can just push them into a little corner and then they’re forced to attack

You two by two or three by three or whatever it is and that should really allow you to keep surviving especially if you have a potion and indeed it did the job for me even without artifacts you can still deal with enemies pretty easily if you

Can funnel them into an area that’s why the big wide open areas they’re the easiest to see lots of things from but they’re also the most dangerous because you can be attacked from the most angles at the same time anyway i decided to use one of my level

Up enchantments on this brand new crossbow and i got the fuse shot enchantment which sounds really good on the surface it allows for every three to five shots to do an explosion it is one of my favorite enchantments usually but on this particular crossbow the explosion does 100

Of its regular damage which is just eight damage so eight damage explosions are better than zero damage explosions but i mean they did very little for us and uh speaking of explosions i decided for this entire level to take some tnt with me and to save this specifically

For the boss fight maybe this was naive of me to think but i figured like well tnt is super strong and it’s the closest thing we have to artifacts that exist in the levels so what if we save as many as we can stack on our head

And we throw them at the golem and sadly uh it seems as though even though we did freehold tnt it only did about a third of the redstone golems helpful but that was enough for us to get a good foothold in there and then to use our rapid fire

Crossbow and do the thing that you should always do in minecraft dungeons when in doubt use a rapid fire crossbow and just decimate the boss i had 1400 arrows seriously that’s not a joke that’s not a hack that is just how many i saved up because i decided to pick

Them up for the level and as a result it was uh no match it was my machine gun crossbow versus the redstone golem and even though eight damage is as low as eight damage dealing eight damage a thousand times is better than dealing a thousand damage just a few times and

As a result the redstone golem was soon taken down i decided to take on the desert temple first out the next two levels i could have picked because it’s one of my favorite levels in the game and when i got a very early glaive drop i realized this was going to be a

Nice achievable doable level because when you’re playing solo the best thing you can have is a medium or long range melee weapon and you know having one of those having no healing or magic i took advantage of just being able to attack things from a distance where they couldn’t attack me

And it helped me get through this level with only a moderate amount of resistance this is where we had to start just uh ignoring certain mobs because of the serious challenge and taking them down i mean the big skeleton kings they’re gonna be a nightmare but if you can run

Straight past them i decided that would be the easier thing given how much faster they were scaling versus me and this level’s boss is also thankfully one of the easiest ones in the game to take down if you’re willing to choose it it’s one of the best design fights in my opinion

It’s one of the most intense fights you have to wake up a skeleton but all you’ve got to do is you’ve got to have a ranged weapon you’ve got to stand behind the pillars in just the right place and then maybe if it has a magic boom

Shot ability that can shoot two enemies at once you can shoot both the skeleton king and one of his lackeys at the same time and that’s why i did precisely that i did get a little bit cocky and died just before the very end but otherwise it was a solid fight

Although this level does definitely have one of the hardest uh you know jumps between the fight and the end of the level itself almost died uh you know right in there before the end but we did defeat the desert temple bring us down to just three more levels

Required to defeat the entirety of dungeons and so next up was the fiery forge this level is notable for having some of the biggest encampments of enemies that usually are just best skipped using speed effects but instead i had to use my potion and my dodgers tactically

Just to avoid the worst of it the whole level was filled with these near-death situations and the only real positive of the entire run was that i got a hammer which was the best weapon i came across during the entirety of the playthrough i really do wish i was joking when i said

That a level 15 44 damage weapon was the most powerful i was gonna get during the run but i’ll explain what exactly happened with that later because uh yeah playing minecraft dungeons with none of the artifact slots equipped was not the intended route who would have figured but either way

I wasn’t gonna let that stop me and things did go pretty well i was saving the free tnt for the boss fight again but sadly i actually died just before the battle because of my lack of crowd control there were a lot of enemies in a

Very tight hallway and i guess the only positive is that when i died at least the crowd control happened for me because the tnc apparently dropped straight off your head into the battlefield a very handy way to take down a huge horde anyway so the big boss fight was

One of the most terrifying in the game this is one of my least favorite boss fights in a normal circumstance but without any crowd control without any way to take down his little minions this was looking like it was going to be my first big failure of the run however the same

Strategy of running around continuously and firing uh you know the rapid fire crossbow shots when i could was very very slow and did result in lots of very near-death situations and one actual death situation but fortunately i had enough of my life left over by the end to finish off the

Redstone monstrosity to get myself another level ticked off the list and to bring myself down to the penultimate level off the high block halls so this level was scaled significantly above the difficulty that was recommended to me given my gear situation but i decided giving it my best and

Using my speed strategy we might just get some things done and sadly we did die not just once not just twice but thrice and in fact this was my first level where i got down to my last life i was considering the playthrough over if i wiped out entirely and i game over

Screened so this was the most intense boss fight i had to deal with um it’s seven waves of just lots of enemies spawning including my absolute least favorites the strong dudes of the hammers because they have the same weapon as me but they could do a lot more damage to me

Than i could do to them and when you combine that with a lot of other enemies enchanters range and otherwise um we got to a very few dicey situations where i was pretty much dead on my last life you can see how little there was in my health bar

Right here um but we did pull through we did manage to survive and eventually the high block halls were vanquished as well bringing us into the ultimate challenge the hardest level in minecraft dungeons by a country mile because we had to take down the obsidian pinnacle so the obsidian pinnacle is hard enough

In the easiest of circumstances i’ve had many people tell me that their uh you know their first second third fourth playthroughs all went entirely awfully because defeating the obsidian pinnacle and indeed its boss is a super big challenge with a lot of many bosses with a lot of tight situations

And as a result i decided that you’re not we’re gonna need to get the best gear humanly possible to go into this i mean a crossbow that dealt eight damage and axe that did 44 and some pretty weak armor wasn’t going to be enough to defeat the hottest boss in minecraft dungeons right

And believe me i tried to get better gear i spent thousands of emeralds trying to get better weapons and armor for the end fight but because of my power level i actually ended up just getting a lot of garbage from the villager because the gear that you end

Up buying is entirely random but it’s based on your power level and given that my power level was so much lower than it should have been due to the lack of artifacts i just got a lot of garbage and it meant that i had to go into the final level

Not just with uh you know enemies scaled against me but i had to do it with weaponry that was also very outdated so this final level scaled at 2.1 times my difficulty and you can really feel it as the damage i do to these enemies is just

Not not matched in the slightest by the damage they did to us and there was no real way to stop them which is why i decided to use my favorite strategy i’ll just choose it by running through everything as fast as i humanly can i didn’t have the speed

Boots i didn’t have the cloak i didn’t have anything to increase my speed damage output or even amount of hits i could take but that’s why i just decided that running through and hoping for the best was the only thing i could really do and indeed it actually worked even

Allowing me to run past the mini bosses on this level the redstone golems and even the evoka with the only thing uh you know killing me was trying to get a pig of a chest praying that that pig of the chest would give me something worthwhile something which it fulfilled by doing precisely

The opposite and uh yeah by the end of the level i was running through and in a real dicey situation almost dead every few moments you can see uh some of the closest calls i had right here and although they took me close to the edge i did the mistake that everyone

Makes on this level and i underestimated the boss i assumed what i’ve done this before i can totally do it again i’ve basically got the same equipment with this eight damage crossbow and no that that wasn’t how this went at all the uh you know the arch illager alone

Can spawn in eight enemies at once and given that i had no real way to avoid the air enemies or deal crowd control or increase my health or even just convert them to my side using a love amulet using none of my favorite techniques meant that i was going close to the edge

Every single time these guys spawned in and the previous wave didn’t have to be killed before another one would come in meaning at some points there were 20 enemies just waiting on the batfield making it impossible for me to hit the arch imager even if i wanted to

Ignoring his super big magic bolts um even if i could get close to him i would end up dying to all of the things around him and indeed that is something that happened once um and i realized uh by the time i was using my arrows as a

Clever way around that that i was running out arrows i had just 300 left and i really needed pretty much all of those if i was going to take down the final final boss and that’s when i just concluded that this was going to be impossible or a

Grime was required i was mentally uh you know resigning myself to the idea of like well it was pretty good um but without grinding we just can’t do this i was backed up against a wall quite literally under siege from all uh directions and i was planning the speech

If we lost the battle but we haven’t lost the war uh this is why this isn’t a complete failure and then i just decided we have to take risks there is no other way this is going to work and when i started taking the risks when i just accepted

That maybe i would die any second from all of the insane number of crossbow bolts it turns out i didn’t i did pretty well at managing to take down the art villager despite all of these dudes despite all of the fire being directed my way i did manage to get some damage dealt

With the archilager and then i concluded i probably had a few arrows that i could use to finish the job off anyway and that’s when the fuse shot came in extra handy there were so many enemies firing at me but the explosions were stunning them for a brief second and even knocking

Appear from upper level meaning that i could finish off the art challenger use my arrows avoid the hits at the same time and actually get through to the next stage of the fight being mostly unharmed and having lost only one extra life however as you all know the archaeological is a fun boss

Fight by itself but the heart of ender the real last phase of this boss is the challenge that will really destroy your soul and believe me when my hide behind the wall strategy didn’t work because for some reason uh it’s uh you know giant ender beams were

Piercing through me i kind of concluded that yeah i’m not sure how long i can avoid these things using all of my artifacts the first time through i found it to be a nightmare but i had no artifacts this time and not even really any good weapons but

Then i realized that my second favorite hiding spot on this level behind the wall was safe from the heart of ender and i could attack the heart offender you know kind of peeking out from here every now and then and that was a really great discovery by

Itself that for some reason this will work even though the other one doesn’t um and although there was a little bit of a hiccup when for some reason it spawned right in here and tried to beam me to death it didn’t succeed thankfully um but the real uh you know

Like breakthrough was when i realized that the wool would stop the heart offenders beam but it wouldn’t stop me being able to fire at it once that realization sunk in i realized that the heart of bender was always going to be an easy boss as long as this particular

Uh you know set of conditions existed because you can just use the environment to your advantage the same thing we did in the redstone mines all that time again uh the same thing we did to skip past all the enemies in the game until this point

We used the level against the level and that was a super effective strategy as you can see from the damage we’re just pouring into the hardest boss in the game and in no time flat after realizing it the heart offender was dead and minecraft dungeons was completed we got our lovely cut scene

Where oh no they imply it’s going to happen again and you’re gonna have to do it in another difficulty but the point was we got all the way from the game not only never using an artifact but never equipping one once it was a relief of a moment and it was a

Realization as to you know how games like this can have a second life any game that you can enjoy playing through once and then feel like huh what’s the challenge now you can play on a higher difficulty if you want to what happens when you defeat all of the highest difficulties

Like we’ve done in minecraft dungeons well playing a game again you know we do this in minecraft as well but with some challenge applied is a great way to limit yourself and to realize the power in things that you otherwise haven’t realized i mean for instance the exact

Opposite of this challenge trying to beat the game with no artifacts or to think the whole game about leveling up these are all fun challenges that i like the idea of and that maybe if you enjoy this video we can do more on this channel let me
