Is [Applause] [Applause] hi everyone it’s matthew here and welcome to the halfway point the 12th stadium of the skybet efl championship 2018-19 project ellen broad has of course served as the home ground of leeds united since the club’s founding in the early 20th century but there is a lot more to it than meets The eye ellen road’s history predates that of leeds united by around 20 years or so starting its days as an open field in beeston just south east of leeds city centre owned by bentley’s brewery and known as the old peacock ground taking its name from the old peacock pub Which sat across from the field the first club to take up tenancy on the field was holbeck rugby club who purchased the ground from bentley’s in 1897 for around 1 100 pounds however as part of the arrangement the field had to remain a football ground for at least seven years While bentleys would be responsible for the catering back in those days rugby was the dominant sport in the west riding of yorkshire with with football not being anywhere near the fold at that point holbeck’s first move as tenants was to build a new stand in time for the upcoming season and re-christened the Ground as ellen road football however was steadily introduced to the area with a west yorkshire cup final contested by hunslet and harrogate in front of 3400 spectators acting as a somewhat taster in april 1898 and by 1902 local club leeds woodville shared the ground with holbeck until the latter folded following the 190304 season and ellen road was put up for sale following a meeting at the griffin hotel between supporters and interested parties aimed at securing the future of the ground that august some of those involved being former former members of the now disbanded hunslet football club it was agreed that A new football club would be set up under the name of leed city association football club the new club would rent ellen road at the cost of 75 pound per year with the lease being signed on october 13 1904 included in this lease was the option for the club to buy the ground Initially for five thousand pounds in march 1905 however the fee was reduced to 4500 pounds by the time the contracts were signed in november leed city played their first match at ellen road 48 hours after the lease was signed a friendly against hull which unfortunately ended in a two-nil defeat Despite the loss city officials were eager to get league football on at the ground and following some high-profile friendlies the club was finally admitted to into the football league on may 29 1905. in preparation for their first season in league football the club added a 5 000 Capacity covered stand to the west side of the ellen road at a cost of 1050 pounds the winds of change were very much in full flow at this stage with football overtaking rugby as the dominant sport in the area with a 50 decline in gate receipts for leeds rl In the first season and yet ellen road’s attendances continued to go from strength to strength by 1906 the ground was expanded once more with a 4 000 seater grandstand being built on land bought from monk’s bridge iron company for 420 pounds the new stand cost 3 pound and was Opened by the lord mayor at that time joseph hepworth before leeds first chelsea that november ellen road would go on to host its first fa cup semi-final in 1910 in front of around 36 000 people as basley took on everton however these good times wouldn’t last And by 1912 the future of both club and stadium were cast into days as the bank called in a 7 000 pound overdraft the club continued to walk on thin ice until a group of local sportsmen stepped in with an offer for the ground being Accepted it turned out to be more of a stay of execution as leeds city were eventually expelled from the football league in 1920 and the stadium was nearly scrapped with businessmen proposing to turn it into a brickyard with lead united eventually arriving on the scene and buying the ground from Yorkshire amateurs for 250 pounds more works were carried out on island road with the scratching shed and the north stand known as the speonkop added while the east stand was redeveloped and became known as the law field nothing of not occurred at ellen road between the 1930s and 1940s But it was around this time that some impressive attendances were seen in fact it saw its first record attendance set against eventual champions arsenal in 1932 when 56 988 packed into ellen road the number quoted does change depending on who you ask but the record stood for 30 years regardless The stadium was fitted with the most expensive floodlights of the time in 1953 at a cost of seven thousand pounds the first game following this was against hibernian in front of 31 and a half thousand fans with the game ending in a 4-1 victory with john charles scoring a brace Three years later the west stand was completely gutted by fire resulting in an estimated one hundred thousand pounds worth of damage when it was found that the insurance wouldn’t adequately cover the cost a public appeal was made for extra funding which resulted in 60 000 pounds being raised along with another 180 000 pounds thrown in from the lead city council a new 4 000 seater stand was in place by the following season ellen road saw further expansion during the reign of don river in the 60s and 70s with the north stand being added along with the corners Either side of it being filled in at a combined cost of around 650 000 pounds the scratching shed was also replaced with the current south stand it was also at this time that leeds ditched their old royal blue case in favor of the all-white strip that we know today Inspired by real madrid after the floodlights were replaced between 1974 and 1975 with the largest ones in europe no major work would be seen at the ground until 1991 when the southeast corner opened now affectionately known as the cheese wedge this was swiftly followed two years later by the new east stand with Which with a capacity of 17 000 became the biggest cantilever stand in the world at that time the final middle of modification was when ellen road was transitioned into an all-seater stadium in 1994 following the taylor report the north stand was reopened by the widow of the legendary don reevey And was named in his honor becoming the don river stand further plans to increase the capacity to around 50 000 have been mooted since but following united’s relegation from the premier league in 2004 these plants were temporarily shelved with the club’s future taking priority spells in administration followed by a Few seasons in the third tier for the first time in their history eventually gave way to a redemption arc being taken to new levels by head coach marcella bielsa and resulting in a return to the premier league as they were promoted as champions during the 2020-21 season The capacity of ellen road stands at 37 792 divided across the jack charlton stand the don river stand john charles stand and norman hunter stand with each stand seating 14 900 7 000 11 000 and 5000 respectively with the stadium’s record attendance standing at 57 892 setting a friendly against sunderland on 15th of march 1967. ellen road got underway in minecraft on june 5th 2020 while villa park and hillsborough were still being built however unlike those two work on ellen road was not playing sailing to begin with given the jack charlton stand had to be replaced three times as additional images showed Features i’d missed such as a change in incline on the lower tier despite the setbacks work had progressed along the don rivy stand and had just got underway on the john charles stand by june the 25th at which point work was put on hold for The first time so i could focus on the nearly complete hillsborough as well as villa park the stadium wouldn’t be touched again until october 27th when it became the subject of a two-week streaming period along with villa park on twitch however it again fell dormant once this Period was over and despite a brief brief revival following the completion of villa park in december it wouldn’t be until the completion of burnham park in late february that ellen road finally received my undivided attention by this stage work on the roof above the jack charlton and don reevy stance was underway and Eventually on on march 21st work ended on xbox for the last time after six years building on console with ellen road in the etihad stadium my only two active builds at this time moving to java the decision proved to be a master stroke as with the help of World editing shaders and access to tools with which i could create custom textures using the real textures of the ground i had a near unlimited scope for which i could try to make ellen road my most realistic built to date sufficient progress on both the northern corners men meant that the don river Stand became the first stand to be finished on may the first however the murals on the exterior on the northeast corner had to be omitted because i couldn’t find good enough images to use in order to do them correctly the completion of the roof and the installation of the final seats in the Stadium meant the john charles stand was completed on may the 11th with the norman hunter stand following 10 days later on may 21st finally with all the interiors added the jack charlton stand was the final stand completed on may 22nd with landscaping continuing until the project was completely finished at 2 30 A.m on june 24th after 384 days of work and with that i hope that you enjoy the rest of the video and let me know in the comments what you think of it as always like share and subscribe and i will see you all next time It hasn’t got the right Surprised Is [Applause] You Video Information
