Mod Spotlight Thaumcraft 6 Pt1

Hello everyone this is Darwell 20 and welcome to a brand new slash updated mod spotlight today taking a look at ding thumb craft 6 that’s right thumb craft we didn’t even know if it was coming from minecraft 1.12 dot 2 but it’s here it’s ready to be used it is currently

Available and you guys can go download and start playing with it now but in case you wanted to learn how to do things let’s get started covering thumb crap there’s a lot to cover some things will be familiar to you some things will

Be a little bit new so we have a lot to take a look at a lot to take a look at we better get started this is at least gonna be a three if not four part spotlight for now let’s get looking at the basics and how to get started in

Thumb craft 6 so your first step in thaumcraft is to find crystals in the world v crystals to be exact there are six types which should be no surprise to those who have played thumb craft before that’s one of the world there is air there is tara or earth there is Ignace

Or fire aqua or water and or dough and / DCO these six crystals you need to find all six of them and once you do so those crystals will start affecting your mind and give you some sneaky ideas once you’ve found one of each crystal type go

Ahead and take a little nap you’ll awaken from a strange dream that gives you some good ideas hmm I found three of those crystals and combined them with some redstone a bowl and some Flint so it should be noted that you have to combine three different crystals in your

Crafting table with a bowl Flint and redstone and that will get you sales mundus they can’t be the same crystals but they can be any three any combination of crystals that you want just note that it has to be three different ones in order for it to work

And the Salus Mundus can be sprinkled onto a bookcase once you do so a little bit of magical happened and you’ve got your thumb and avec on just like in the past the thamma nomicon is your guide to all things farm craft and if you want you can stop watching

This mod spotlight right here because everything I’m gonna cover is made available through the samba nomicon but please don’t stop watching well I mean if you want you can but you know long story short I’m gonna cover a bunch of stuff for you and get you through the

Basics so step one you’ll notice that there’s a bunch of stuff here first you get like the first steps instruction it basically talks about how to get started in thaumcraft and there’s a couple things to note on the UI of the of the somonauk on here first off on the left

Is knowledge totals currently blank but this will be made more clear in a moment what this is for then you have on the right here basically is the recipes unlocked by this section so sales mundis totally you know you can see see the recipe for that there and you can see

Our next step is an arcane workbench which it’s basically telling you is to get yourself some more salem on this so i’m gonna get myself a bunch and a crafting table and you can just go ahead and sprinkle the stuff on a crafting table thing and you’ll get yourself an

Arcane workbench cool very nice and once you’ve done this it’s kind of like a quest that you’re following you get to mark the quest complete thing and it’ll open up the next portion of this section so different chapters so you can see there’s three stages in the first steps

We just completed the first stage which is making the arcane crafting table and now we’re on to the second stage which is to do some observation fundamentals and craft yourself a thermometer and you’ll notice that the thermometer crafting recipe is now shown on the top right we still don’t have knowledge

Tools yet correct but we will see those in a moment so to make a thermometer we need to craft using the arcane workbench and similar to the previous arcane workbench you basically can use it as a regular crafting table if you want so obviously as you can see you can turn

Gold into gold nuggets and any other vanilla crafting recipes or crafting table recipes but in order to get yourself a thermometer you’re going to need to craft like so notice also that there are six slots available in the crafting window that you can place your v crystals into so in the thermometer

Mannequin you’ll see the recipe for the thermometer needs one of each crystal type to do the crafting and it also requires a V of 20 if you’re using jei which I’m sure many many many of you are note that there is an add-on available that allows

Jei to show you thought craft recipes so there you go handily you can shift click your crystals into the table and once you have the right number of crystals in there you’ll notice you can craft your thermometer like previous versions of thaumcraft thee is a magical as a

Measure of the magical energy currently available in the chunk that the crafting table is in or the player is in so right now this chunk has 143 V available and when you craft this it’ll use 20 note that it goes down to 123 but then it starts refilling the V balances between

Chunks and we’ll see that in a moment so we’ve just crafted ourselves a thermometer and notice that by looking at the top left you can see a measure of the V and the chunk that we’re in so if we show chunk boundaries you’ll notice that we’ve got about 128 V and it’s slowly

Building up here and if we go into an adjacent chunk there’s 169 and this one might be dropping a little bit so we can see you know what the numbers I by a holding shift and you’ll see this one’s dropping it’s it’s it’s spreading some V into the

Adjacent chunk so the the the magical energies the kind of balances between the chunks pretty cool ah the thermometer is also what we use to do some research now there’s two types of research available and thaumcraft now and if you want to learn more about that

You can click on types of knowledge the the two main types are observations and theories so observations are gained by scanning objects and theories are gained by doing research on the research table which we’ll be finding out about in just a moment you’ll notice that one of the

Next chapters we can unlock is the research table pretty cool now to unlock the first steps chapter we’re going to need to get some observational research around the fundamentals so maybe in a moment here we’ll see this unlock but basically to do observational research you find a block or an item that you

Haven’t scanned before and if you haven’t scanned it before it’s gonna be glowing in blue like you can see here these blue glow ease kind of indicate that hey you haven’t scanned this right click no need to hold it and it’ll teach you something new cool and now you

Scammed grass and you can’t scan it ever again however you can scan your your crafting tables you can scan your chests and you can scan all kinds of cool stuff like dirt and your bed and sand and all kinds of good things and you’ll notice that as you scan things you got those

Little dings popping up now if we look in the knowledge total section we’ll see that we have seven different observational categories fundamentals or a man see alchemy artifice arcane infusion golem ANSI and eldritch these are the seven chapters of the thamma nomicon and if you looked very closely

At the being in the video when I had all my research those are all kind of represented they’re basically scanning different things in the world will earn you research points of observation so observational points so we scan a few fundamental blocks and we got one fundamental observation point and once

We did that we’re able to use that point to unlock this chapter so in doing so notice that I have one fundamental point when I hit complete here it’ll use that one and if we take a look at our knowledge totals now we’re back down to 0 so basically scanning things in the

World earns you points and you use those points to unlock chapters that’s one type of research that you’re going to be doing so you’ll notice now we’ve completed this step and we’ve also unlocked aspects of essentia similar to previous versions of thaumcraft essentia is basically the building blocks of all

Materials unlike previous versions of thaumcraft you can see the essentia of all items prior to scanning them so I haven’t scanned in a of these items in my inventory yet but you can see what potentia is on each of them which is pretty cool note that just like previous

Versions the thaumcraft you can scan it and and once you scan items you you get some research points so you can see by scanning items here I’m getting lots and lots of research points which is pretty cool probably can’t scan the saman monitor by having an extra one but you get the idea

Pretty cool Salus Mundus so scan all the things time right and as I’m scanning I’m getting more and more knowledge totals so I’m getting more and more points in observation and moment we’re going to see the other type of research which is theorycrafting cool so now we need to

Make ourselves a research table and scribing tools to proceed through the next section and this will unlock stage 1 of theory crafting so let’s get ourselves a wood table and subscribing tools you can see the recipes are here so if I got myself a wood table and some

Scribing tools and place one in the world and another in the world boom we now have a research table cool research tables require paper and if we go ahead and take a look at this we should see that we’re good to go cool so we can mark this section

Complete I had to craft describing tools and the crafting table to get it to recognize and now we can move on to step two of theory crafting that explains how research works you can read the book or you can watch me do it so to do research is really quite simple

Start off with some paper in the top right and click create Theory and note that you have 6 little light bulbs here right when you click create Theory you’re going to get basically a randomly generated note when you click on the piece of paper on the left so if I

Clicking on that you’ll note that this note here is telling you about experimentation so our random dice roll this time said we perform some random experiments to see if something can be discovered you gain somewhere between 10 to 25 progress in a completely random category sure let’s do it that category

Happened to be fundamentals cool and we also got 16 points in or man see here meat so that’s pretty cool clicking on it again we get two options that we can follow down right so we can either rethink which gives us another light bulb back so notice when we clicked on

That we lost a light bulb here right when we run out of light bulbs this current research is complete and you’ll see what that means in a minute right so I can either rethink which makes me lose 10 progress in one of the categories to probably or man see but let me

Regenerate an inspiration so in the event that I wasn’t really going for or mansi research I could rethink this lose some points in orem antsy and get a chance for another dice roll basically or I can ponder I can carefully consider what I’ve learned so far and gain 25

Progress divide it evenly between all current active categories cool so if I do that I think it looks like it’s gonna use two light bulbs there but I got a bunch of points and/or mansi and fundamentals which is cool right using up another light bulb here we can either

Do a universal theory which you can read what it says there so we get a bunch of progress evenly split do another experimentation or another step back right so let’s do experimentation that sounds cool unlock some points in Eldridge me next up we can either choose to reject one of

The findings we had and what that means is it rejected is during this research step which is currently happening we will not get any more ljus research okay so if I was not worried about Eldridge right now I could choose this and say you know what I don’t want any more I’ll

Just point so let’s like stop focusing on Eldridge and we’ll try and find something better so I’ll click that because I don’t really want elephants right now so that’s gonna gray it out I don’t I won’t get any more Eldridge during this right but we won’t lose any

Of our current progress and I still have two light bulbs up here because because rejecting doesn’t use up a light bulb cool I kind of like or I’m antsy so let’s keep experimenting that’ll use up a light bulb we got some more points and then finally I’ll do another universal

Theory here that’ll give you some more points and our theory is complete so notice I got about 41% in fundamentals and 36% in orem ANSI and we also got 17% in Eldridge complete theory cool if we look inside our thermo nomicon now well notice that we have now another section

Of knowledge totals right theory fundamentals and theory or fancy cool so we’ve got our observational stuff up here and we’ve got our theory stuff down here so for the most part we got a good bit of theory in both fundamentals in orem ANSI and now we can go you know

Dorothy everything again and kind of follow through and click through things let’s keep doing experimentations let’s do universal theory that sounds good Universal theory experimentation and then Universal theory great I ran out of all my light bulbs I got a bunch of points in some other areas and we can

Complete our theory me so by doing this research we are we are learning things about Tomic magic stuff and we’re building up so each time we get a percentage it’s adding to that percentage it’s an eventually you’ll build up enough points and theory fundamentals that will be used later on so let’s do

One more set up here and just keep going experimentation experimentation and you’ll kind of get the hang of this as you play with it a little bit more but notice here that we should be pretty soon so we’ve got 34% more and fundamentals we got some golem and see

We got some alchemy some arcane infusion cool and that earned me a point so I finally over the course of three or four researches earned one point in fundamentals and we still have pretty close to a full point in some of the other areas and we can see that here

Right so we got our full point in theory fundamentals and we’ve got some some research heading towards or Amman see alchemy and eldritch and like I said that will allow you to unlock more things in the future so those are the two main research mechanics that you can follow through and thaumcraft basically

Scanning things earns you points in the observational category and doing research at the table earning points in the theory category and these points will be used to unlock things throughout songcraft next up let’s take a look at alchemy so we are able to discover alchemy so we can do some brewing right

So what we need to do is make ourselves or we needed to get enough observation for alchemy and fundamentals to do this so note now that currently based on some of the scanning we did we have two points in observation alchemy that’s there and we’ve got one point in observation fundamentals and it’s

Telling me down here we need one point of each so when I hit complete it’ll go ahead and take those points away so I’m now zero in fundamentals and one in alchemy and I now have the ability to progress down alchemy pretty cool basically it’s telling me we need to get

A cauldron so let’s do that and sprinkle some Salus Mundus on it tada the crucible from folk crafts those you beautifully thaumcraft before probably know how this thing works but long story short you’re gonna need some netherrack to get started and a flint and steel

Which I think I have one still from when I was playing with this before I started recording and they’re gonna want to throw some water into this thing and yes you can automate it with piping so you can pipe quarter into here no problem and after a few second

If you’ve done everything correctly you’re gonna have to go ahead and watch it bubble there you go bubbling cool so as a result of making the cauldron I get to mark complete the discovering alchemy section sweet and now we can learn information about how to do alchemy you’ll notice that it

Unlocked a new recipe up here on the top right night tour um so again similar to previous versions the thaumcraft but I’m not going to assume that you’ve played with them you need to place items inside the crucible that contain the following three aspects right so you need ten

Ignace ten lakhs and ten potentia so and then once you’ve got enough in there you’re gonna want to drop a glowstone dust in and that will craft a night tour so let’s see how that works right so if we look at blaze powder we’ll see that there’s five Ignace on in addition to

One potentia and five of whatever that is so if I need ten bigness of that fire flame icon right so in order to do that we need ten Ignace so I need to put two blaze powder in there to get five and five is ten cool for lux

We could probably either use glowstone dust or torches so I could do two torches to get the 10 lakhs that we need or I could do one glowstone dust notice that there’s extra aspects that are gonna be in here and that’s eventually according the book it says out it’s

Probably not gonna be a problem but this is a young thaumaturge he doesn’t know what he’s talking about yet it’s gonna be a problem so you want to try not to have too much excess stuff in there so let’s go ahead and just use the one

Glowstone so I’ll give me ten lakhs and two blaze powder will get me ten Ignace and then finally what we need is some potentia right so we need ten potentia happen to know that redstone typically as potentia on it and there’s ten per redstone so one redstone will do so by

Dropping the one redstone you can either drop it in or you can right-click the top look I was supposed to be that extras don’t hurt not too bad and then drop glowstone dust on top poof and that will stone dust will convert into night or for you so you put the appropriate amount

Of items in there right so the appropriate 10 Ignace 10 left stem potentia and then finally drop a glowstone dust in and it gives you the yellow night or me night or is a cool light source it looks awesome thing and it’s also like pretty hot so

If you want you can use it over here instead of your flame and that’ll you know keep things cooking so the water continues to boil with my tour me a new chapter here talks about celestial observation so in order to unlock this chapter we’re gonna need some more fundamental observation going on

So let’s scan just a few more things here if I may and see if we can’t find ourselves something cool hey there’s another fundamental point neat so now I should be able to unlock this section which talks about there’s a link between the phases of the moon and the aura

Replenishment and I’m not a hundred percent sure about this part yet so we’ll probably cover that a little bit more later but basically you can scan the moon oh I’m gonna need paper and you need some scribing tools in order to make these notes right so I can scan the

Moon but you can always scan it once per day so we just discovered a full moon and you can also scan quadrants of the sky so that is the eastern quadrant the southern quadrant the western card quadrant and the northern quadrant and you can use these notes further on in

The mod I’m not on represent sure what they’re for so vac taking a look at the alchemy stuff notice that there’s some particle effects leaving so any excess aspects that were in the cauldron that weren’t used by the crafting will get released into the atmosphere as flux and you can

See that number of flux kinda in the top left there that 1.8 so that’s basically bad magical energy now it’s not good times for anyone so we’ll learn more about flux later on in the mod spotlights final notes about this thing is if you want to empty it completely

You can shift right click and it’ll just convert everything that’s in there into flux and that’ll just completely clear it all out so you can see we just got a big flux infusion it would have eventually evaporated out over time anyway but by shift right-clicking it just clears it out completely and then

You can throw another water bucket in if you want to kind of start over from scratch on that crucible so you’ll notice now that we’ve placed a crucible near our research table there’s a new icon here and it is the crucible itself by selecting the crucible you get to use

Up one of your little light bulbs there but it’ll help focus your research around what you’re clicking on and it’ll also give you extra bonus points and there’s a bunch of other things you can put down nearby that will affect it so I can look she’ll fix it there’s a handful

Of items that I’ll let you guys discover but by using this it gives you extra stuff that you can play with so let’s do a new theory but we focus on the bookshelf and you’ll notice that we may wind up getting extra stuff so we’ve got

A new page that has shown up here called synthesis and this is mostly around the fact that we clicked on that I think and you’ll notice that on the bottom here it’s telling me that it’s actually going to use up a Spiritist crystal and an air

Crystal in order to choose this so we can’t choose this synthesis research right now but it gains us 40 alchemy points and there’s also a chance we’ll gain 1 inspiration which is the the light bulb so by using synth synthesis here it’ll use items from our inventory

But it’s a really good bit of research that we’re going to get out of it and we might get an extra research from it so let’s go ahead and get a spirit as crystal how do we get these V crystals we found the 4 or the six basic V

Crystals right but there’s other ones how do we get them so one of the things we will discover and I don’t know if we have to discover it through alchemy first let’s see in the alchemy section here yeah there we go so by we’ve now unlocked the alchemy

Section right we’ve unlocked about 4% of it there’s lots and lots of other stuff to research in this chapter but by by opening up alchemy we learn how to make V crystals basically what you do is you get two of a specific aspect inside the crucible and you drop a quartz sliver in

There and you get quartz slivers by combined by by just throwing out another quartz into a crafting table and you get nine slivers so in order to do this little research we’re looking at here we’re going to need a spiritus crystal so we’re gonna have to find something

With a ghostly effect on it so soul sand that sounds like something that would have right soul spirit makes sense it has three earth three spirit and one of that trap icon right so we need two of each aspect per quartz that we throw in there

So if we were to get two of this we should have six earth six spirit and two trap which should if we drop them in there as we start dropping our quartz levers in we get our Earth’s cool our trap that’s the Vinick ulam and the spiritus cool so that’s how you can

Focus the B crystal so it’s one it’s a good way to clean up the mess that you made inside your crucible and two it’s another nice thing is that you can actually you know have specific aspects to drop in later so if I had a alchemy thing that needed spiritus later I would

Have three spiritus crystals that each have one spiritus on them the downside is that it takes two spiritists to make one B crystal that has one spiritus on it so basically you lose half of the aspect but it’s more efficient in your alchemy so it’s up to you if you want to

Be messy and allow some flux to go out into the environment or if you want to try and be as clean and neat as possible and make lots of crystals but now that we have this crystal we should be able to complete this synthesis research boom

And you’ll notice it used up one of those crystals and it also used the air one that I had in my inventory and it gave me 40 alchemy said there’s a chance we’ll gain one inspiration but it doesn’t look like that was that lucky cool so now if we want to you know

Continue along we can see the different stuff that shows up here note that I’m pretty sure like the these specific and and and cool ones typically only show up when you choose one of those options on the front and if you don’t feel like continuing with your current research

You can just scrap it and it just it just destroys your progress and you restart from scratch so that’s research and alchemy at some point the research system will ask you for these notes so and they’ll give you like really big bonuses so by having these notes on hand

You might eventually get to a point where this system is asking you for those notes that’s what they’re for so we’ve discovered how to unlock stages of different things by by either observation or by scanning stuff right or discovering certain things right well sometimes you have to do other things so

In orem an see for example in order to unlock it you actually have to travel around the world a little bit so you have to go to the lowest depths of the world and you have to visit the highest peak you can find luckily i’m cheating

So i can kind of fly a pie into the sky and hopefully at some point we will get a little message here saying that yeah you did a good job flying direwolf and you’ll get a note here the world is spread out before you your perspective has been broadened cool by doing that

You’ll notice that we got a little check in that visit thighs piece you can find next up we got to go find bedrock down to bedrock we go ping and at some point it should note here hey you’re a bedrock good job you have visited the deep and

Dark depths and have learned a new insight cool so that unlocks or mansi for us cool and we’re discovering or a man see the basics of aura man see you looking cool so by unlocking aura man see this is how um those of you who play thumb craft in

The past you used to have wands with magical foci well now it’s a glove with magical foci so in order to make the glove we’re going to need of the resonator and in order to get a bee resonator we need some quartz and an iron plate which is three iron ingots in

A row like that so that the resonator will be used to make the caster’s gauntlet and once we’ve gotten those two things we will unlock the next portion of the chapter let’s go ahead and crack them off camera real quick so the resonator notice it just uses in aqua

And an air crystal boom and 50 or so the notes of the book indicate that this is a very basic gauntlet however it gets the job done and if we take a look now we’ll see we can complete the discovering or Mansi section and move on

Cool so for now what we need to do is we’ll see that there’s a new aura man see section unlocked and we can go in here and learn more about aura man see one of the first things we’re gonna have to do is make ourselves a blank

Lesser focus which is going to need five Orem ten perk antio and twenty vitreous and a crucible and then drop it in order so what we need is twenty vitreous 5-1 and ten for candy and an order Cristo and we should be good hooray we got a blank lessor focus beautiful that is

Going to allow us complete basic flora Mansi nice and then the next section of basic Laura Mansi Stage two out of three indicates that we should make a focal manipulator and we should also examine fire very closely how close do we have to get pretty close all right we felt

The Tufts of the flame we just covered fire cool so we discovered fire and now we have to make a focal manipulator the focal manipulator is what allows us to craft foci and it’s really cool like super awesome can’t wait to show you guys this so we need this stuff so I’m

Gonna make it off camera real quick so this is your focal manipulator and this is what allows you to create foci done and if we take a look in our book we’ll see that we’ve completed the second step of basic or Mansi and now it’s on to

Step three how to make foci cool so you can read the information here basically foci you can combine three different components there is the root which is the player touch which is what the player is touching and then fire which is the effect and you’re gonna unlock

More of these different things later on so for now we have only the ability to make one very basic foci but you’ll be able to unlock projectiles and lightning bolts and plans and arcane mines so these are different like focus effects are focused mediums right and then you

Could also unlock different effects so you’ll have elemental effects like you can see here or you can have flux effects and you can have exchange effects and break effects and healing effects so you can affect different entities you can affect how the projectile moves or if you’re just

Touching it or how the spells cast basically and then the effects of the spell so to do that first of all we have to place our lesser focus in here and you’ll notice on the top right there is total complexity experience cost and V cost so in order to make this we need

Some experience so the player needs some levels of to them right now and you’ll notice that we start off with this guy which is the the player focus so the first step of making the spell is you know how it’s being cast I think so that’s the player

Is the one casting it and then the second step is choosing how it works right you have to touch the thing or do you shoot in a projectile or do you shoot a lightning bolt that zap something so this right now we only have touched but we will eventually unlock

Something that allows a projectile right and then finally what is the effect of the spell right now we only have fire but later on we might be able to do other stuff cool and once we do that you’ll see that it costs 43 V from the environment to make this focus it also

Costs one experience and we’re using four out of the 15 total complexity that is currently available to us I think compact city is limited by the focus so there are better foci available indicated by the fact that it is named lesser focus there’s probably a regular

Focus and a greater focus and and that will increase your complexity and you’ll notice down here you can you can affect some stats of this focus so you can make the power basically how much damage the fire spell does right so if we increase that power to will notice it’s changing

Some things first off its increasing your total complexity it’s also increasing the cost to craft the focus and it’s also increasing the vcast amount so it costs v to cast this ability so by increasing this we can bump this up to maybe like four so it

Sound cool and we can also affect the burn duration so let’s bump that up to five and that brings up our total complexity to 15 out of 15 we try to go any higher it won’t let us and if we try and go higher in power it’ll go above

The complexity limit and that’s too high also to craft this we’re going to need an umber CO crystal and an Ignace crystal so you guys already know how to make those so just get yourself in a bur CO and an Ignis preferably not through JDI and you should be good to go right

So that sounds pretty cool so let’s craft this thing right it’s gonna use a 153 B from the environment that we’re currently in we have 143 so we probably can’t craft this thing or we can but it’s gonna it’ll have to draw on B from the adjacent chunks so once it

You know fills in there from these it’ll be good so yeah remember V kind of floods in from the adjacent chunks and tries to balance itself so we’re good there so that made ourselves our fire crystal neat so what we can do now is equip our gauntlet and hold the F hotkey by

Default we can choose which foci to insert into the gauntlet we only have one now obviously but you can see on the top left it’s telling me what it is it’s a three be cast it’s a touch effect and it’ll burn players or entities that you

Touch for five seconds with a power of four sweet notice in the top left by holding shift you can see the current amount of V in the chunk so right now the way it works is the gauntlet draws the out of the chunk that you’re in to

Do the cast so that 119 kind of matches the 119 up there and you can see also it’s telling you it’s gonna cost 3 V to cast the spell so I can right-click on a block and light fire and it will use some B out of the chunk

You can also right-click in the air and I’ll just shoot a fireball that does nothing because it’s a touch ability it has to actually touch something but you can totally light entities on fire so I need a test subject done thing neat and notice that pig burned pretty

Quickly a lot quicker than if he had just walked through a flame block on the ground so that’s how you do foci crafting and we’ll play with a couple more foci throughout the mod spotlights however I feel like this is a pretty good wrapping up point for part 1 so

We’ve learned the basics of thaumcraft and how to get started how to do research how to scan things and how to do some basic alchemy in the next part of the spotlight we’re gonna dig deeper into each of these sections and we will probably unlock more things so I’m

Hoping in the next section to cover some more of the automated alchemy and some of the advanced alchemy concepts and I’d also like to get into infusion and then eventually we’ll want to get into artifice and golem antsy as well for now dial 20 signing off on part one of the
