I would never have thought I’d have had to make this video, but Mojang has officially removed the oldest Minecraft Console Edition Skins from the Bedrock Store for what at first seemed like literally no reason at all but after doing some research I found something else… The comment was from a user called “Gustav” who had said “I can’t find the legacy skin pack on the Minecraft store. It isn’t removed, is it?” I know what you’re thinking, you’re probably asking yourself what is the legacy skin pack & why should I care, well, first of all, it’s this skin pack right here & as to why you should care well I’ll explain that in a minute but let’s continue the video. The Legacy Skin Pack included all the original Minecraft Steve skins such as the tuxedo steve, Tennis steve & all their female counterparts along with some more memorable YouTuber skins you might remember such as Stampycat’s skin, iBallisticSquid’s skin, Eckosoldier’s skin & many more. The Skin Pack itself was downloaded by more than 670,000 players before it got mysteriously Deleted from the store, the majority of those who downloaded it are most likely fellow Minecraft console edition players. So naturally, after reading the comment I went to go check for myself & lo and behold the skins could not be found. I first tried searching for the skins by just going onto the store & searching for it with the name of the skin pack but I couldn’t find it. I then tried going onto the officially Minecraft Bedrock Store account where all the new Minecraft Content is & searching through the account for the pack & I couldn’t find it at all. The Legacy Skin Pack had seemingly just vanished into the abyss without any official reason as to why. So where have the skins gone? Well, honestly I don’t know. What I do know is that they have definitely been pulled from the Bedrock Store as after trying to find the skin pack on the Bedrock store & getting no luck I decided I’d try seeing if there was anything online about the skin pack being removed & I found some interesting information. The first piece of information was the official page for the Minecraft Bedrock Marketplace with the Legacy Skin Pack on it. As you can see it says simply “No longer available It looks like you missed out on this content.” which confirms Mojang has fully pulled the pack down from the store. The next thing I wanted to know naturally was how long ago this had happened because the comment from Gustav was only from the other day & I knew that when I created my video about the Abandoned Steve skin back in April 2021 the skin pack was available So I wanted to build a rough timeline of when it was available & when it got removed so I could see if there was anything that happened during the time it did get removed that could help us discover why it was. So we know it was available in April 2021 but is no longer available in September 2022 which gives us a seventeen-month void which isn’t very helpful. From further digging though I found this Reddit post from January 2nd 2022 acknowledging the strange removal of the skin pack. This brought our timeline down to eight months which does narrow our timeframe but not enough. So I kept looking through Google & the best timeline of events I could discover was this, I made my video in April 2021 when the skin pack was still available, later around September Of the same year for some reason the pack was removed publicly from the Bedrock Store however the skins were still usable & they could even be downloaded if you had the link to the skin pack on the Marketplace. We know this is true because around this time is when suddenly a few people started trying to capitalise on the fact people couldn’t download the skins easily & one person a Portuguese-speaking YouTuber even made a tutorial on how to unlock the legacy skin pack sharing the link to the Skin pack on September 27th. Then from here, things get slightly uncertain. It was definitely not available on the store to find after September but it wasn’t until just a few months back that it seemingly completely got removed with even the link to the marketplace not working at all in February 2022. The pack seems to have either come back or the old link for it on the marketplace started working in March 2022 with two smaller creators covering the pack in their videos but after that, it seems to have stopped working again completely & hasn’t worked since then. This gives us a window for it being fully deleted between March & September which looking around online doesn’t answer the question as to why the skins might have been removed. So after all that digging here are my honest thoughts on why the Legacy Skins might have been removed from the Bedrock Store. I think it could potentially be for three different reasons. The first is Mojang are trying to distance themselves & the Bedrock Edition more from the now discontinued Legacy Console Edition which seems slightly believable but at the same time removing a couple of skins doesn’t really seem like the best choice to do that So I don’t believe it’s for that reason. The second & potentially more controversial reason could be the drama around the Athlete skins & the issues some raised with them. If you don’t know I covered the story in more detail in my video about “The Abandoned Minecraft Steve Skin” but basically the “Athlete Steve” skin along with its female counterpart “Athlete Alex” were not added to the Legacy Skin Pack when it was released due to what many believe was concerns of people perceiving the skins to be racist. Now I said it in that video & I’ll say it here, that obviously was never Mojang or more importantly 4J Studio’s goals when making those skins. It was most likely just to add some diversity to the default skins & yes they did make a Stereotypical skin like “Scottish Steve” but you’ve got to remember 4J Studios are based in Scotland & it was just them having some fun. The thing is though the Athlete skins were not in the Legacy Skin Pack at launch… back on September 12th 2017. Why would this be a problem suddenly now? It just wouldn’t & if it is the reason for why Mojang removed the pack just doesn’t really make much sense. The third & most believable reason the pack may have been removed could just be due to licensing issues. If you don’t know the pack contains the original Steve & Alex skins created by 4J Studios but also skins that some of the old Legacy Console Edition Content creators used like stampylonghead’s skin which is based on the character fidget from the game “dust An elysian tail” or Bigbst4tz2’s skin which is based on Lee Everett from Telltale’s The Walking Dead. Mojang has in the past had their fair share of issues with licensing for things like skin packs. for example, the Doctor Who skin packs volume one no longer can be obtained on Bedrock Edition Due to licensing however can be used on Console Edition. It’s just a shame that if this is the real reason why we lost the Legacy Skin Pack we surely could have been given some sort of a replacement for the original Console Skins or an official word on why they actually got removed… And as a final note if you did download the skins before they got taken down from the store then you can still use them as my friend MVX proved with these photos he shared with me showing he can still use the skins. It’s all just a very confusing mess. And on that note that is it ladies & gentlemen that is the end of today’s video, thank you so much for watching it, if you did go to enjoy this video & found it interesting please share it with your friends, drop it a like & if you have any subjects or topics You’d like me to cover in a future video leave a comment letting me know what they are. I’d also love to hear your thoughts on why you think the skins got removed & which of the original old skins you personally loved the most. And with that all being said please be sure to subscribe & turn on the notification bell to stay notified when I release any new videos & I’ll hopefully see you peeps later… Video Information
