Hello everyone sadly here and welcome back to another minecraft video mochang has just completely changed how mobs spawn in both the bedrock edition and on java edition and this is gonna have quite a few changes to the way that you play minecraft it’s gonna change a lot Of different things but most of it should be for the absolute batter and it’s going to be a very very interesting change once it eventually rolls out keep in mind these changes are only in the experimental versions for java and bedrock they have not been added to 1.17 However we’ll likely see them in 1.18 if you want to read more about these experimental modes i’ll have some articles linked down in the description below there’s a lot more in these experiments however this change to mob spawning i think is the most important and the most interesting so what is this Absolutely huge change that mojang has made to mob spawning well it’s a relatively simple one but it has a lot of really big impacts and it also gives a lot more power to the player and significantly simplifies how we the players think about mob spawning so in previous updates hostile mobs would Spawn in light level 7 or below as you can see identified with the iron square right there everything within the iron square previously it wasn’t dark enough for hostile mobs to spawn however any of these experimental 1.18 snapshots and betas hostile mobs like your skeletons and your creepers and all that good Stuff require absolute darkness to spawn they require a light level of zero meaning that things can only spawn within this golden square right here that significantly reduces the amount of available spawning spaces it significantly reduces the amount of light sources that you need in your world and it also really simplifies how We think about mob spawning basically if you see any light at all no matter how dim the light is no hostile mobs are going to spawn there they need absolute complete darkness in order to be able to spawn which makes it so that we can really play around with light levels a Lot more we can have a dark and creepy and evil builds without worrying about creepers blowing them up so to put this into some context that you might understand a little bit better previously torches would light up a really big area of a 13 by 13 diamond so Everything within this little bit of an iron diamond right here previously would be bright enough to prevent mob spawns and we can look at that and you’ll see that all of the edges are block light of eight and if we step past this the block light goes down to seven a hostile mob Previously would be able to spawn right here however in these new 1.18 experiments the torch now spawn proofs absolutely everything within the golden square which is a massive 27 by 27 diamond centered on the torch we can take a look at this with the f3 screen As well as you see block light is now one if we step past here this is block light zero and now hostile mobs will be able to spawn once the sun goes down so that is a huge change instead of needing a five blocks based grid of torches you Can now space out your torches 14 blocks apart and it’ll spawn proof absolutely everything in the middle of them as you can see we only need four torches to spawn proof in absolutely huge area and even though the middle of this is very very dark and very gloomy it is still Bright enough to prevent all forms of hostile mobs from spawning it’s honestly such a nice little change and it really solves a lot of problems so keep in mind there are two forms of light in minecraft and this change to mob spawning only affects the block light There is also the skylight and that basically has to do if like if you’re underground for example so if i step to the side the skylight is gonna go down to zero and that means that like the sun for example is not going to be able to Light up this area block light is from any other light source like a torch or a sea lantern a jack-o’-lantern fire lava pickles glow like in a glow berries anything else you name it that is going to be block light and this change to mob spawning only affects a block light so To give you a real quick example like if we go over here to just a random part of the world you’ll see that the block light is zero because there’s no light sources around but the skylight is still 15 however mobs will be able to spawn in This area of course because the block light is zero this new system of mob spawning completely validates every single light source in minecraft and no matter how much light it emits it will be a valid light source and it will prevent things from spawning to give you an example of that the torches Previously would spawn proof a 13 by 13 diamond around them or six blocks in every direction however with the new system a redstone torch will do that a redstone torch spawn proves a 13 by 13 area around it while still being super super dim with this new system glow Lichen actually does something as well glow liken only emits a light level of seven so you literally have to be standing on top of it or inside of it to prevent mob spawning but with the new system this too also prevents mob spawning in a 13 by 13 diamond so if you Find glow like it in your caves it’s actually going to be helping you and it’s going to be preventing some mob spawns and if you want to build with it you don’t need to place it on every single block to prevent mob spawning this new system also prevents the Ambiguities and the confusion with what light levels actually mean so previously a light level of 14 like from a regular torch would spawn proof of six blocks in every direction and it’s basically impossible to tell between light levels eight and light level seven so you need Some sort of texture pack or the f3 screen or you need to physically count and tell where mobs can and cannot spawn it’s an absolutely terrible system but now all you need to know is the light level that something emits so a light level of 14 From a torch means that you can walk a 13 blocks in any direction and know that mobs will not spawn until you get to that 14th block it’s really quite simple and it means that you can just go to the wiki look at the light levels of any Block in minecraft and then know exactly where to place these things in your world to prevent absolutely everything from spawning now this change means that we can have a variety of super gloomy and super dark dusty evil builds using light levels and have so much more fun With light levels but still be safe from mob spawning so i have spawn proof to this cave using just a couple of redstone torches and crystals and ender chests and other things that emit very low light levels however this entire area is completely spawn proof now while Still being very very dark so let’s put down a torch just to show you how dark this area actually is in case it’s not obvious that’s how bright a regular torch is and previously if you wanted to spawn proof an entire cave like this you would need to spam torches absolutely Everywhere but now you only need one like every 14 or so blocks in order to spawn proof of the entirety of the floor and that is not that many torches at all so you might have some questions as to how exactly this affects mob farms and For the most part it’s not we’re just gonna need to make some slight modifications to our designs to block out more light however nether portals have had a pretty significant nerf to them so nether portals emit a light level of 11 meaning that previously they would normally spawn proof you know Three blocks in every direction of them but now they spawn proof of 10 blocks in every direction which is gonna require some significant redesigning for most mob farms that use nether portals you might think that this will affect your standard mob farm with a roof on it however keep in mind this Does not affect a skylight and only affects the block light so while this farm is still very very bright in here it’s actually still dark enough for mobs to spawn in it and there’s no block light at all because there’s no torches and there’s no other blocks that emit Any form of light level so for the most part your mob farms should be relatively fine unless you have torches in the area and also tinted glass it just became a lot more valuable and a lot of different situations just a quick couple of notes here this does not affect guardians Because guardians don’t actually care about light levels when spawning in so as you can see these guys are still spawning in at block light of 11. i can’t determine if this change affects the slime spawning at all but i would assume that it does not because the slimes don’t usually care about light Levels so here’s hoping that we don’t need to change anything about our slime farms i don’t have infinite time to test all these things and this is definitely going to be changing slightly in future versions and in future experiments so keep your eyes peeled and i think they Pretty much nailed the implementation of it like first try honestly it’s a really great system and hopefully we don’t see too many major changes to it if you would like to try out these changes for yourself i’ll have some links down in the description to where you can find Out how to install it for bedrock edition and for a java edition as well and of course minecraft is a constantly evolving and changing game and mojang always wants our feedback on these changes so let the developers know what you think wherever you may find them on The internet and otherwise you can let me know what you think about these changes or this video down in the comment section of the video because that’s gonna do it for today’s episode i hope that you have greatly enjoyed if you have then consider leaving a like on The video or possibly subscribing i’ll see you guys down in the comment section and in the next one thank you so much for watching and then there was silence Video Information

Welcome to another Minecraft update video! Mojang just made some MASSIVE changes to the ways mobs spawn in Minecraft Bedrock and java editions! Hostile mobs now require complete darkness or light level 0 to spawn! This has a lot of very positive impacts, and really simplifies how we think about light and mob spawning! I hope you enjoyed this video! If you did, consider leaving a like or subscribing for more! 😋
