NEW Sonic Texture Pack! – Full Review

Minecraft and Sega have collaborated on some new DLC and let me tell you this is perfect for me I love both Sonic and Minecraft and so seeing them collaborate is a dream come true which is why I figured I’d bring back an old series texture pack review I am incredibly

Excited for this one enough to pay the 990 mine coins or four pounds 99 and I certainly hope at that price point it’s a lot more than fine but let’s hit the buy button so if you’re new to the texture pack reviews I try to split up every texture pack into three major

Components the existing world the natural world but including things that you’ve built you can have the best texture pack in the world but if it doesn’t fit on your existing world and you have to make new ones specifically around it it’s not going to be great for

99 of players but especially those of us with long-term survival worlds where we’ve already built things around presumably the vanilla texture pack and so the second thing is the natural world what a regular world looks like especially in the caves and then the third thing is the never Dimension and

To a lesser extent the end so we need to look at these free place is you’ll be spending a lot of time and see it in the Sonic texture pack and I also should mention in case you’re not new to store Saturday um exactly what is this Sonic texture

Pack didn’t it come out a long time ago why are they doing a big marketing push for it now and the answer is that a Sonic world came out a while ago but because of weird constraints on the marketplace when you buy a world the mods the add-ons and the texture packs

That come with it are not accessible for your other worlds so they had to release a brand new text pack well I say had to it was the only choice if you want to play it on existing worlds and enjoy things like these cute darks oh my god

Um and indeed This Grass which I absolutely love in theory it’s got that fun tiled nature so that Sonic texture packs have um but because of the fact that grass is randomly rotated on bedrock and clearly has some fun gradients it doesn’t look as good as it’s meant to because the gradient that

Should exist only exists about 30 of the time but from the side grass blocks look amazing and mostly we’re here to focus on the first category which is existing builds so beacons I mean at least this Emerald Beacon looks ugly beyond all belief but everything else that I see in

Here is looking pretty nice right I mean look at the look at the wolf for example look at my cauldron in the chest it all works pretty well as far oh my God yes the Chow oh okay so my alley has become a chow and I absolutely love that the

Way he’s dancing and spinning and this is a perfect way to take something in your existing World in LA and make it so much cuter and Sonic here I mean right now I just I don’t look like I’m doing anything Sonic bloated at all my never

Right helmet is just a weird Square my my elytra looks like a jet pack which is kind of fitting or maybe it’s one of those uh like soul collectors but I love the chow and I also think it’s important to look at other mobs like for example

The cow there is no cow in the Sonic franchise so the fact that they designed a sonic-looking cow is actually really impressive I like this one a lot I also like the look of uh you know the fact that this which is meant to be a blast

Furnace still looks like a blast bonus that is a key characteristic a lot of uh texture packs will play around with the colors of wool and things like that and if you mess up too many things you you realize very quickly uh that you’re actually making it impossible for

Existing pixel art to work but the bank of toy cat works just fine if you look at the uh you know my big uh you know like Stone pillar right here anything made out of the base resources word stone bricks um you know as you can see maybe uh you

Know concrete is a little bit of a weird one but wool at the very least is working just fine actually you know let’s take a look at something which has been built since the last uh texture pack review um this is made out of yellow concrete but the yellow concrete has these black

Lines down them but I don’t think it’s so bad that you can’t recognize the banner right I think it looks a little bit uglier and so maybe watch out for some of your builds getting ugly but they’re at the very least Gonna Keep the resemblance to what they’re meant to

Look like and that’s really nice and also apparently banners all look pretty much the same with a few minor you know changes to the background pattern it’s got that fun sonic-ey uh squares going across each other it looks like the transparent jpeg background but yeah

It’s not that all it is in fact Sonic and it looks pretty nice all things considered also oh look at the Sheep whoa they have changed the texture in quite a serious way I’m guessing it actually goes all the way back here with invisible blocks where let’s see can we

Punch the back of the sheep or have they made the Sheep genuinely smaller for this texture pack is it the front maybe that’s very interesting they’ve changed the size of the sheep and I love it to be totally honest with you I also like these new flowers while we’re talking

About existing builds I have to say that never brick is changed entirely if you had a bill that relies on it being purple it won’t work but I love this metal look that it’s undertaken I also love the uh as you can see this looks wonderful this purple stained glass I’m

Loving the Vibes of this this looks like a it looks like a chemical plant or something and also apparently neverwart has become a bit more Crystal oh whoa are those just crystals they they look like them right I would say if you’re going for like something amethyst

Related you’re going to be so confused as to how you can grow it this way which might be great and so yeah we can obviously activate that and we can see some water right now your existing farms and whatnot will look just fine maybe even better than fine this looks looks

Incredible I have to say just obviously it is distinctly changed which is a downside that I love Sonic so much and I have to put aside my love of games from Sonic Adventure to oh what is that what is this mob I really what oh it’s got to

Be a Wandering Trader right there’s no way that’s anything else should we find out let’s no oh it’s a horse what what this is so changed okay wait let’s it’s a trading llama okay what am I seeing here this is so drastically modified that you wouldn’t know if you didn’t

Interact with it right there’s nothing about this that says llama it has wheels for God’s sake at least they’re minecrafty Wheels but this uh is a texture pack that will change lots of your builds in drastic ways I mean oh look at the never portal I know we’ve

Got to do the natural part of the world first except why do we we’ve clearly seen that you know obsidians changed never exchanged let’s see what the never is looking like if you’re playing the Sonic texture pack oh dear God this looks nothing like the never I mean I

Guess you could argue there’s a distinct Clarity that neverack is brown and never breaks some metal colored with the occasional how there’s a lot of things they did in this texture pack that make me question how it’s even like texture packs are a lot more than you might

Assume they are if we can have all this different variety of texture all because covered by never brick you are changing like seriously I’m gonna use a pickaxe is this okay is this a pickaxe this thing right here is a pickaxe and so if I drop my nether wall this is the same

Block right yeah look at that that is never brick and this is never brick and so we place that down again it will always look like that because it’s in that one particular place and so we break it again just to confirm place it there and there that is so strange so

This texture pack uses some weird Minecraft also look at that is that are those wither skeletons are they no they can’t be or they be oh that zombie pigman maybe Metal Knuckles what am I seeing what am I looking at this is this is astounding so yeah I would say

If you want a never experience that will be easy to ascertain what’s gonna happen when you go back to vanilla Minecraft you might be a little confused here in some places but if you want a whole new never this actually does the job again I

I’m you know I I I like Sonic games a lot I played Frontiers quite a bit on this channel you all know that but like this is bizarre right this is beyond bizarre I just can’t I don’t even I don’t even know what’s happening in a lot of ways which again for survival

Minecraft in some ways is a downside I love the way they’ve changed this but I’m also just astounded at like how so let’s see a few things that are in my never so as you can see I’ve got my big old tunnel over here let’s see what that looks like

So blue ice looks very very odd has to be said what the heck is happening here and uh polish deep slight also looking just fine I guess also yeah never never walk looking like crystal is gonna confuse me forever but yeah entirely brand new never experience if you were

Playing Minecraft on a brand new world this is great on an existing world I’m gonna have to mark down this map for this because all this texture pack for this again different to the Sonic map that’s why they’re promoting it again um because everything looks so different

And I think that’s going to continue to my end let’s go for my end portal right now this isn’t an End Portal I’m just pretending I’m gonna have to go for the never portal and through the end that way oh my God these are really cool

Effects I don’t see the Sonic link but this place is beyond unrecognizable and I imagine that’s going to extend to the end honestly this is oh okay what are we is this like what why I don’t understand the if anyone could tell me the answer to the question why I’d be very happy

Right now because I am incredibly confused oh let’s look around this place a little more yeah what is happening with this so this is my glass cover then so admittedly this isn’t how most people’s ends look you have the layer of gloss removed but it still is a very

Strange place and I don’t unlike the never which I think it’s a real Boon out being so different I think this is just different enough that you won’t perfectly recognize it on your ender dragon fight but it’s also not the same enough that you you know would get the

Benefit you know it’s sorry it’s not uh sorry it’s not the same enough that you’d recognize it perfectly but not different enough that you feel like you’re getting a new experience it feels like in some ways the worst of Both Worlds the only thing I love is that

Bedrock looks seriously cool so yeah as much as I love the Sonic text pack as much as I love being a Sonic creature apparently I don’t think the end and the Never are the re I think the never might be a reason to play this on a brand new

World I don’t think the end is ever going to entice someone into this besides the end portal which is so I just I just have to see it so first of all I have to say congratulations to me for beating Minecraft and second of all

I have to say what is going on with this Redstone so these are Pistons as you can see with the little star markers on them these are oh wait maybe these are observed yeah these are Pistons these are observers it is very odd looking everywhere I think uh you know we’ve

Mostly focused on yeah created builds myself I do like quite a few of them look at the purple lava it meshes so well with the blue hair look at the Pistons they look so fun from the side they look like uh they look like the the

The the bounce pads it’s it’s real fun like uh having things look like this let’s look at some mobs that exist in the middle of my big flat land by the way have you spotted the uh the deaf uh the big Death Egg in the sky there it’s

Nice so ocelots are just tiny little lions which is you know that I think it’s one of the little animals you could find in the capsules at the end of levels so that’s cute um skeleton horses are robot horses sure that’s Undead mobs and uh pigs are just absolutely adorable there’s there’s

Nothing more that needs to be said about them but uh yeah if what do you get chili dogs instead of cooked pork chops I guess you do you can live the Sonic dream of eating chili talks all day which is just great so um yeah I love

The way the mobs look I love the way the natural of world looks be totally honest with you look at that biome right there it works you can tell it’s a spruce biome but yet it has a Sonic vibe to it look at the jungle it works you can tell

It’s a jungle biome has a Sonic vibe to it the ocean and the planes and all of the these biomes are working just great my insane sugarcane farm Ethan is going wonderful but a key part of the natural world we have to test is the underground

You’re going to be doing a lot of mining you know it’s it’s pretty 1.20 you know we we’re in what might be uh you know the last few uh pre-releases and you know like uh full-on release candidates 1.20 uh well it’s it’s very very close

Now and so you want a lot of diamonds you want a lot of mining that’s a lot a lot of people are doing also so cute this is adorable um but you’re in that stage of the update now so you want to go underground what does it look like

When you do do that the answer is honestly also pretty damn good I mean there’s some fun there’s some fun slimes going on here I like that um yeah that is very bizarre like do you see the way there’s like souls coming out of them oh you get points

How do the man this is this is for a texture pack there is a lot going on here um so it has to be said this this texture pack uh has a really good handle on natural things and threats in the other world your existing builds will transfer over 90 something percent the

Overall world looks pretty damn good and uh I I do have to say uh that if you are you know thinking about uh playing the Sonic touch pack you can do so even for Mining and it will work just fine I don’t know how well I’d recognize all

The different ores might be worth uh you know like uh checking out your mileage may vary and how how well you recognize those may be different uh but as far as the base experiences I can tell that Scrabble without even mining it I think was that gravel actually I can

Tell see I could tell that was gravel I can tell this is duh it looks a bit spongy and it looks a bit like something else but you can spot it without any brain strain you can focus solely on the mining solely on the exploring your world which is really so important oh

What is that is that bat that is the weirdest looking bat I’ve ever seen but yeah I can spot that that’s lapis I would have to guess or maybe red if that’s Redstone then okay that slap is perfect um so yeah I I really do think that this

Map that this texture pack does a really really really good job um on the naturals of the world and the Overworld as a whole the never is a whole weird mixed bag and it’s only the end where I really say it falls short but ultimately if you’re a Sonic lover

You’re gonna love these weird surprises and the things that you find basically regardless of all of that I think um you know the world is just filled with these tiny little details that make you go oh yeah I remember this from that game and ultimately that’s what it’s here to do I

Think playing with the Sonic text pack in a long-term world is probably not what they’re envisioning although nothing’s stopping you from doing that um what they’re probably imagining is like yeah this is a fun way to just add a Sonic vibe to a playthrough and in some ways that doesn’t make sense why

Why are why do pandas have to be brown is that is that a Sonic Cannon I don’t imagine so uh but in other words you know in some ways it’s a bit weird in some ways is it what is this llama he looks he looks like he’s gonna be

Something oh isn’t he adorable I want a llama like that in my life but um yeah the also look at this look at this zombie uh but ultimately if you do want a mighty if you want a Minecraft next Sonic experience and now you want it in

Your regular world this is the place to do it oh this is incredible look at look at these creepers they they work it a lot of things in this just work and so my only uh criticism tip would be one um this isn’t you know most people don’t

Need a texture pack to entirely change their world but you know this this map is this text pack isn’t aimed at those and it’s support it’s not it’s Christmas for the pack itself it’s just saying most of my audience probably aren’t going to be buying this and you can

Really get a lot of your joy from looking at these fun marketing screenshots ooh aren’t they fun um and the second one I’d have to say which is more directly um you know for the Minecraft I would say is that if I if you buy a map on the

Marketplace if you spend you know like a five six dollars on a a Sonic map that comes with a texture pack to make the map work you should be able to use that on your other worlds I think it’s kind of weird that they sell you texture

Packs they’ll sell you add-ons and mods and stuff that don’t work in extra worlds and the reason you know people think you can is because people will buy maps called modern x-ray they’ll buy them and then not realize it doesn’t work elsewhere the X-ray hacker is something that is so important to some

People they’ll pay money for it but then they’ll review it one star because you know this one might not work honestly um it says it’s multiplayer friendly but only if they join your world and there’s only 21 or less of them 1 to 22 is a

Very random number to say by the way but um yeah the the point here is to say uh that I think that you should have access to that stuff as far as the pack itself very very very good lots of love for it in every Dimension besides the end and

As far as should you give it a try um honestly I would love to recommend the free trial but Minecraft’s Marketplace has yet to implement such a functionality so hopefully this video is a good enough alternative does it make you want to download the pack and give
