Minecraft Snapshot 23w16a is here with reworked trail ruins, pottery sherds and a new command! My name is slicedlime, let me show you all the news! Let’s start with the new version of the trail ruins structures. There are now more structure variants leading to more variation. Sand no longer generates inside the structures and the amount of gravel and dirt has been adjusted. The loot has also changed so there is now a dedicated loot table for the more rare loot like pottery sherds and smithing templates. This means you’re now guaranteed to get at least some rare loot if you carefully search the entire structure. In block and item news, the pottery shards have been renamed to pottery sherds. Brushing a block no longer stops if there’s an item between the player and the block. A whole lot of fixes for sculk bugs in this version. Sculk sensors now have a cooldown state again and vibrations no longer arrive unless adjacent chunks are also loaded. Sculk shriekers that are placed with NBT now receive signals and sculk sensors and shriekers now work properly when they have been cloned into place. The comparator outputs from a chiseled bookshelf now updates properly when a hopper inserts or extracts items from it. Polished blackstone buttons now take the same amount of time to break as regular stone buttons. And farmland no longer turns to dirt when there is a torchflower planted on it. Speaking of torchflowers and farming, farmer villagers can now plant torchflower seeds and pitcher plant pods. Feeding a sniffer while it is digging no longer causes it to lay motionless for a very long time, and sniffer animation transitions have been fixed in some cases where they would previously snap. Sniffers no longer sniff while panicking and no longer dig while levitating… but they can now enter minecarts. In user interface news, the application icon for the game has been updated. It will now be a grass block in full release versions and a dirt block in snapshot versions. A bug has been fixed with the splash text covering some of the logo text and 5 new splashes have been added. This sand is sus Remember to brush your… …teeth Has working bookshelves! Sniff sniff… and Place hanging sign here In visual news, the programmer art and high contrast pack no longer show up as out of date. A number of problems with lighting have been fixed, including cases where light wouldn’t update. And the amethyst crystal in the calibrated sculk sensor block now displays the same way as other amethyst crystals. In sound news, walking near a liquid no longer plays stone footsteps. Sniffers now make an eating sound when they eat the last seed of a stack. And the subtitle for sniffers laying an egg is now “Sniffer plops” rather than “Chicken plops” In technical news the datapack version is now 14. There’s a new command in this version: the return command. This command is only useful from within a function and when run it will abort any following separate command in that function. The syntax is return followed by a return value. The result of the function command that led to this function being run will then be the value you specified as the return value instead of the number of commands executed. There’s a new advancement trigger as well – recipe_crafted. This advancement trigger triggers whenever an item is crafted, such as when taking an Item out of the result slot of the crafting grid. There are two available conditions. recipe_id can be used to match the id of the recipe. And ingredients condition is an array of predicates that can be used to match the ingredients of the craft. Each ingredient in the craft can only be used to match one predicate and all predicates must match for the trigger to fire. Item display entities have been changed in this version. Items displayed using item displays now render rotated 180 degrees around the Y axis. This matches the way items render when worn by an entity, and means the front side of many blocks now renders to the front of the display entity. Tag changes in this version: stone_buttons has been added as both a block and an item tag. A villager_plantable_seeds item tag has also been added and a maintains_farmland block tag has been added. In performance and stability news, several crashes have been fixed, a memory leak has been fixed and some other multiplayer connecivity issues have also been fixed. In addition, several performance stalls caused by light calculations have also been fixed. There is now native support for ARM64 Windows computers. If you have a Windows ARM64 computer you can test this out – for now you’ll need to manually select a native ARM64 Java Executable in your installation settings in the Launcher. Doing this should noticably increase your performance. And that’s all for snapshot 23w16a. Thank you for watching – my name is slicedlime and I’ll see you next time. Video Information
