Mobility and video games is cool which might sound ironic considering gaming is one of the most immobile recreational activities but there’s a lot of nuances and Mobility that frankly I don’t hear talked about enough Beyond just being cool mobility and video games lets you interact with the World in combat systems in ways that heighten the experience and raise the skill ceiling of the gameplay and when I say Mobility I don’t just mean how fast you can run I’m talking about the crazy like dashes double jumps wall claims Not even crazier like rocket jumping surfing and bunny hopping games like Celeste Super Mario Odyssey it takes two in the Ori franchise seemingly blend Mobility into gameplay by making it easy to learn but hard to master but let’s just pause and talk about a small indie game for a second uh called Minecraft Uh in this game you can walk forward and jump despite being literally the number one most popular video game in the world Minecraft Mobility options are incredibly simplistic and while this might not necessarily detract from the game itself it does leave a lot to be desired for those interested in Faster Gameplay and that’s where we get into Minecraft servers which utilize plugins and commands to allow for greater Mobility options in a more engaging experience now there’s a specific server that I’ve been known to talk about from time to time and actually the topic of today’s video uh I think it’s called wind raft With the release of 2.0 mobility and windcraft went from a neat mechanic to Traverse the world to an actual staple of the gameplay you have passive abilities like walk speed and jump height but I’m far more interested in the active abilities typically available through the spell system let’s start with Warrior Warrior Has a charge ability which launches you from one point to another seems pretty simple right wrong wrong firstly looking down or up and casting charge will actually keep your horizontal movement locked while continuing to raise you vertically by default charge is locked into a set Direction when you cast it But with the upgrade aerodynamics you can actually move throughout the charge relative to where you are looking aerodynamics also launches you a further distance But actually resets your momentum every time you catch charge so since the base charge does not reset your momentum the more times you cast charge consecutively the faster you will go with enough base charge spamming you’ll end up traveling faster than herpes on a college campus when compared to charge without Disability aerodynamic shines in short bursts rather than sustained movement however aerodynamics opens the ability for two other skills called uppercut surfing and charge bouncing uppercut surfing is by far the simpler of the two to pull off it does however require the ability Whirlwind strike to be unlocked uppercut surfing works by casting charge And then casting uppercut when you are one or two blocks off the ground to keep the momentum of your charge going without needing to cast another charge spell this can be infinitely repeated so long as you have the Mana to keep casting uppercut uppercut surfing essentially allows you to move as fast As you would by just spamming charge but it’s useful because it lets you damage enemies as you continue to move at high speeds it’s also like really fun so just try it anyways charge bouncing is the other ability available through aerodynamics and weight trickier to pull off by holding Crouch and spacebar Simultaneously casting charge and then letting go of Crouch right before you hit the ground you bounce off the ground and continue your charge momentum essentially doubling the distance of your charge you get far more distance when spending the same amount of Mana so charge bouncing really does have its Utility there’s also another trick that I actually discovered which I’ll nickname charge boosting by standing on the edge of a block charging up and then tapping Crouch to fall down you get launched up in the air seems pretty useful right well there’s some limitations to it firstly this requires You to have the ability heavy impact unlocked and it turns out the amount of blocks you get launched up in the air is only equal to your jump height so with 9 Jump height you’ll go nine blocks which sounds cool but then you can remember you can just press your space bar and Save you the trouble of setting this all up charge boosting may not be the most accessible and it may not be the most useful and it may not be the most fun but charge boosting is in fact worthless charge boosting next up is Archer Archer is unique in the fact that its Mobility spell has two completely separate options escape and grapple hook let’s talk about Escape first casting Escape grants you a 20 walk speed buff to both you and your allies through the ability when defeat it can however give an additional 20 walk speed with the later ability stormy feat but beyond Just giving a walk speed buff Escape launches you away in the direction opposite of where you are looking Escape can launch you well over 20 blocks horizontally but seems to only be able to launch you nine blocks vertically you can cast Escape once in midair but it requires you to touch the ground Before you can cast it again you can also hold Crouch to get launched to the ground while in the air but beyond that escape is a relatively simple Mobility option in terms of any high level tricks Escape seems very straightforward and the mechanic only allows you to cast it once Before touching the ground and thus you can’t really chain the spell now grapple hook on the other end is insane if you can’t afford Spider-Man this is pretty much the next best option crapbook launches you to whatever block your hook attaches to which essentially means the further away you are from your Grapple hook point the faster you’ll be launched up now by default grapple hook has a range of 26 blocks but it can be extended an additional four blocks with stronger hook however Lenny explained why this is actually more of a side grade than an upgrade way more Competently than I can so I recommend checking out their video link in the description grapple hook on its own is incredibly easy to use and Incredibly versatile definitely what I’d consider the most accessible Mobility spell but if you want to do even more with grapple hook You can use the recoil from aerostorm to increase your momentum into the sky by grappling then looking straight down and casting aerostorm the knockback of the arrows is added to the velocity of grapple Hook’s pull and sends you into the heavens where you can meet their lord and savior The sheer vertical momentum this combo allows for makes glute running on Archer way more viable if you’re still in tallute running for whatever reason now Beyond escape and grapple hook Archer still has quite a few Mobility options boltzlinger helps you unlock hop which launches you forward about three blocks which is Primarily useful for parkour but beyond that it’s mostly useless it also has frenzy which rapidly increases your walk speed the more times you attack an enemy but more interestingly is the ability of Rocket Jump which lets you use the knockback of error bombs too well Rocket Jump For the two of you who don’t know rocket jumping was a mechanic founded in Quake but later popularized by Team Fortress 2. the way this mechanic works is that you can use the explosion of your rockets off of nearby surfaces to launch you across the map since erebomb Essentially is a rocket the same principle applies and as such you can use the knockback off of walls or the crown to help boost you in various directions now the additional nuances of Rocket jumping is its own can of worms that I don’t really have the time or motivation To dissect but there is one particular sub ability of Rocket jumping that I want to talk about Team Fortress 2 you can perform a trick called sync jumping which happens when you shoot a rocket at the ground fall below it and then shoot another rocket right when the first rocket hits the Ground essentially launching yourself up with the momentum of two rockets in windcraft this seems not to work since your aerobomb hits the ground faster than you can fall however unlike Rockets aerobombs are affected by gravity so by shooting Aero bombs straight up in the air and then Waiting for it to hit the ground can you sync jump in windcraft well no the reason for this is because casting Arrow bomb deletes your previously casted era bump if this ever were to be changed though you could theoretically sync jump in wincraft now let’s talk about mage uh Uh as Mage you can teleport all right I guess now we’re on to Assassin I mean there’s not a lot of depth to the teleports though so there’s not a lot I can talk about for mage but I’ll share all the mobility tricks I know basically teleport works by teleporting View Teleport by default will move you 16 blocks both the upgrade blink you get teleported twice in a row 12 blocks each time for a total of 24 blocks holding Crouch while teleporting does abruptly stop your momentum without moving you a few blocks after like it normally does You can teleport in any direction so long as there’s no blocks obstructing your view riftwalker also has time dilation which builds up your walk speed to 300 over the course of 30 seconds as long as you continuously Sprint the only real trick I found with Mage Mobility is that on Arcanist you can use the ability of chaos explosion and its upgrade uh memory whatever to activate five teleports in Rapid succession once you build up your mannequin chaos explosion casts Spells at a faster rate than you can manually so it does have utility albeit more so for combat than Mobility but considering this trick requires you to get your Mana big to at least 100 teleport five times in a row and then use Arcane transfer this trick is about as useless as my YouTube channel now on to Assassin for real assassin’s Mobility is most heavily tied Into the combat of all the classes which while fun means there’s also a lot to learn let’s start with Dash assassin’s Mobility spell dashboard similarly to Warrior’s base charge and that launches you from point A to point B the main difference between the abilities though is that charge launches you further Horizontally but Dash can launch you vertically without needing to spam it Dash can also be converted to vanish which Mobility wise functions the exact same but so long as you have the upgrade shadow travel it will actually give you an additional 100 walk speed for 5 seconds You can cast Dash midair but similar to escape it requires you to touch the ground before you can cast it again a focus on acrobat which is by far the most varied archetype when it comes to Mobility writing reflex is the first Mobility upgrade you unlock with acrobat and it Works by letting you Glide while holding Crouch gliding will remove all fall damage but you can only Glide for 5 seconds at a time before you need to touch the ground again acrobat also has access to the ability lacerate which modifies your Spin Attack now this might sound like a combat Utility but it’s actually more of a Mobility utility as casting it will launch you forward before them launching you up exactly four blocks last rate alone isn’t super useful because Dash exists but when comboing it with Dash you get a lot of momentum it helps you fly later on which I’ll show Off in a bit like Archer assassin also has access to the hop ability which functions the exact same way but since assassin can remain Airborne more consistently hop is far more useful here the last upgrade worth discussing is wall jump which lets you bounce off balls after hopping into them the Momentum of this ability is pretty fast but also pretty finicky if you’re in between two close objects though it works pretty well now that all the abilities are laid out let’s talk about how to use them all together to fly here’s the very simple list of steps necessary to fly First you hop into a wall then use the knockback of wall jump to launch yourself up now look directly upwards in cast Dash next hold Crouch to activate writing reflex then cast lacerate so the momentum keeps you launched up start spamming hop to additionally help with Mobility next cycle Dash to keep The Mana cost of last rate low then pray the server does not lag and lastly get some ditches so yeah flying goes acrobat is a little bit tricky from both the memorization and mechanical perspective now you totally can just try to spam hop and spin attack but doing it mindlessly Will result in you flying more like a Boeing 747-400 erf wide body airliner and less like a Boeing 777-300 extended range powered with the GE 90-115b turbo fan if you catch my meaning Nirvana is arguably the best dagger for acrobat flying since its major ID significantly lowers spell cost and Helps with the spell spam necessary to keep you Airborne acrobat opens the door to near infinite skill ceiling mobility and is definitely worth trying out last is Shaman Shaman is unique in the fact that it’s the best class hashtag Shaman sleep and also that its Mobility spell Hall is not dependent on where You’re looking but rather the location of your totem I’ll launches you towards your totem and works even when your totem is still mid-air this mechanic is actually the reason totem flying exists by casting totem then quickly casting call you gotta watch your totem in mid-air and then can repeat the same Spell combo to continue flying so long as you have enough Mana sustain even with good execution though this combo doesn’t always get you up super high which is where the ability blood connection comes to play blood connection is pretty much a direct upgrade to Hall and works by teleporting You to your totem when you are outside of its range when you teleport to your totem with blood connection you get launched up two blocks so using this upgrade when totem flying makes it way more feasible to get vertical height the only other Shaman ability that really adds any sense of Mobility is Ritualists frog dance this ability is very finicky and about as consistent as the affection you get from your parents the way this works is when you have mask of the carrot equipped and cast tall you start bouncing every time you touch the ground you bounce a total of three times with The last bounce being the largest and launching you about 10 blocks in the air but you can actually cancel these bounces by holding Crouch it is also worth mentioning that silent ballet is a weapon available for Shaman which significantly lowers spell costs and can help when moving around the map Shaman’s Mobility options are some of the simpler ones in the game but the natural Synergy between totem and Hall allows for very fluid movement so that’s all the mobility tricks and tips I wanted to share there’s likely plenty of nuances to the mobility and win that I left out of this video simply Because I don’t know about it so hey don’t be afraid to
