Here’s a quote that i hear at least once a week minecraft is dying it’s a subject that i’ve made a few videos on in the past but today i want to approach the subject differently from how i usually do and i know i’ve approached the subject quite a few times in the past Normally whenever i talk about whether or not minecraft is dying i talk about the game’s sales figures and from a numbers perspective minecraft really is not dying at all in january of 2016 across all of youtube minecraft accounted for 6.8 billion views in that month alone in january of 2017 it was 7.2 billion views and in january of 2018 it was 7.8 billion views it was also recently reported that despite fortnite’s popularity minecraft is still the most watched game on the entire platform of youtube and this was confirmed by youtube but today instead of looking at the glass half full i want To look at it half empty and see what valid points if any at all that people have in regards to saying that minecraft is dying and to give you a little spoiler the only way in which i feel that statement is ever correct is in regards to the game’s sense of community Hence the title of the video so let’s go ahead and let’s get this discussion started so i want to get one thing out of the way here when i feel that the majority of people suggest that minecraft is dying they’re saying it because their own interest in the game has died down Because they’re no longer excited about the game and neither are their friends and some of the youtubers they used to watch growing up are growing tired of the game as well it’s actually very easy to see where they are coming from however none of this means that Minecraft as a whole is dying so here’s the question if minecraft is doing very well from a sales and numbers point of view why am i worried about the game well it’s not the game and it’s sales figures that i’m worried about it’s just the community here’s why Think about this analogy let’s say on average for every 10 people who quit playing minecraft for one reason or another 20 people take their place well then it would seem like the game is doing just fine however the way that i look at it is for every 10 people who Quit playing there are in fact 20 who take their place but java edition only gets maybe 5 of those people and the remaining 15 take their place on minecraft bedrock edition what this boils down to is the amount of people playing minecraft bedrock edition is on a steep incline while the amount of People playing minecraft java edition is on a steep decline at face value this means that the minecraft community is splitting up more and more and while the numbers do show this to be true in some sense there’s even more to it than that if we look to the most popular minecraft Java edition servers that exist today and compare the amount of players online at any given time to where they were three or four years ago it’s clear that minecraft java edition servers on average are on the decline with what i said before this does definitely make sense but if minecraft’s active player Base is just shifting from one type of the game to the other is the sense of community actually dying or is it just shifting from one version of the game to another well this is where i feel like mojang may wind up not liking my answer I do feel that the sense of community all around is dying here’s why minecraft bedrock edition is a much quieter version of minecraft what i mean by that is while nearly every single player who plays minecraft java edition uses a mouse and keyboard this is just not the Case on minecraft bedrock edition if you’re playing on a phone or a console or any platform that does not require a mouse and keyboard then what this boils down to is there’s far less chatter on bedrock edition servers and because the servers are quieter fewer friendships are being made fewer people are Connecting this is what directly inspired me to make this video was that i went on a bedrock edition server and nobody was talking with one another minecraft bedrock edition is to skype as minecraft java edition is to discord if you’ve used both skype and discord at Some point before i want you to think about how much better the sense of community is with discord versus skype while skype was always quite good at connecting you with people that you already knew discord’s ability to bring people who don’t know each other together within like-minded communities Is unbelievable and the reason why that’s true is because discord actively encourages people to connect just like having a mouse and keyboard does within minecraft java edition now do i feel that mojang is actively trying to kill the sense of community within minecraft no of course not but i Do think that it’s just a consequence of mobile variations of minecraft becoming the most dominant versions of the game another thing that’s worth noting is that minecraft’s popularity on youtube is worldwide whereas fortnite has not taken off in foreign markets only about 40 percent of minecraft’s player base is English speaking which is why it may feel like the minecraft community on youtube is shrinking for the english-speaking viewers well i’ve never liked it when people use the google trends stat for the word minecraft to describe that the game is dying just because the graph looks like this when The sales figures actually don’t prove it i do feel that this has a correlation with how many people visit websites like the minecraft subreddit the minecraft forum or any community where people can come together meet new friends and communicate about our favorite little block game but do i think this is a Permanent problem well no with how active apps like discord are getting i honestly think that a resurgence within any community especially minecraft’s community is entirely possible and it could be happening without me even realizing it this video is obviously going to stir up a lot of emotions for some people but i Wanted to end off on a positive note nonetheless while i don’t ever think the sense of community will revive itself within the game itself maybe we’re just entering a new age where the dominant form of communication within communities occur outside of the game and within apps like discord but that’s just my Take on it if you have anything that you would like to add feel free to do so in the comment section down below but anyways guys that just about does it for me for now if you enjoyed this video please consider leaving a like on it because it would really help out myself The channel and the video quite a lot so i hope you all enjoyed my name is ant venom and i bid you all farewell thanks so much for watching Video Information
