Like the halfway home between Minecraft and Roblox it’s going to kind of have the development tools of Roblox it’s going to have the blocky style of Minecraft but I think it’s going to have the Polish of something like UE FN and like fortnite engine and stuff but bit

You know far beyond that I think it’s going to be a really standout platform so even if people aren’t super stoked about like the adventure mode and stuff like that um I think it’s going to be I think it’s going to be pretty cool I like it oh say Rosen

Jan uh as 2021 Drew to a close we showed off some of the progress as part of Riot’s under City night events um cuz if you don’t know basically Riot games acquired um hiil as it kind of brought them under the umbrella which given that they have league and valerant and t uh

Obviously had the stuff with Riot going on and the game expanded and got bigger than they expected and it completely changed the timeline entirely it basically became a whole new game um which maybe should have bumbled under the surface but yeah H I see overhype well no not really overhype it’s they

Had a lot of pipe which meant they generated a lot of interest and then they got business partners come in who decided they wanted to throw money at it and obviously what they’re trying to do is they’re trying to make this I think what they’re trying to do is they’re

Trying to Future proof it right from all the wording they’ve used it seems as though they’re trying to make it so it is like it’s got an adventure mode which is kind of You’ll Play it once and maybe never again is my guess um although having said that you play Minecraft over

And over again don’t you campaign wise um but it it did seem as though theirs was more narratively driven which I was quite excited for um and then they’re going to have obviously the multiplayer version which will be like you know miname servers and stuff like that cuz

Obviously they stem from uh from Hypixel um but then I think they’re really going in on the development tools and like a Marketplace of sorts and stuff um so yeah it’s good I get minor Cube World Vibes uh maybe in terms of timeline but I think in terms of final delivered product I

Don’t think it’s going to be as underwhelming as cube world was like cube world was always very feature uh deprived wasn’t it it pretty much looked like the little teaser images W would put out but you didn’t really get much beyond that and it was very sequential

Like as in you know go further out monsters change color numbers get bigger and that was kind of the game Loop and it wasn’t all that great um but yeah anyway right let’s rock cor um taking advantage of the extra pre-production times afforded uh by the engine change

We also began a far-reaching creative reexploration of the world of orbis the setting of High’s Adventure experience we’ll dig deeper into one aspect of that uh reexploration later in this post sick love this image by the way it’s nice um these efforts creative and Technical continued into 2022 in our summer update

That year um we talked more about the reasoning behind the engine change see some new biomes and landscapes for orbits and reintroduced our vision for hiel as a whole meanwhile as Redevelopment continued we uh we dive deep into every aspect of orbit as we began to prototype new Advanced building

Tools more sophisticated V effects which I’ve seen those on socials by the way they look awesome um and a Very Fresh Approach To High Tales UI I don’t know if we’ve seen the updated UI really um this year we brought the engine development fully inhouse and steadily

Expanded our team in a very exciting Milestone we hosted our first external play test whoa that’s huge damn okay a sign of things to come as noxy and I discussed earlier in the year 2023 has been about Staffing our team so that we’re ready for 2024 integrating our gameplay

Systems and workflows with the new engine moving our creative and prototyping efforts forward in preparation for the next wave of play tests new engine progress okay so this year the team has been ramping up um to take full advantage of all of our shiny new uh engines capabilities while

Beginning to integrate the latest breakthroughs from our world generation and encounter design teams um the needs of creators are always on our mind so we’ve also been working to get tools and content creation workflows online in the new engine oh interesting our rendering team is hard at work replicating the

Look and feel of hightail in the new engine um and we’re looking forward to sharing a side by side with our old engine when we’re ready cool um at the moment however our primary focus has being on performance and functionality not Beauty we’ll share some of these

Ugly duckling moments when we’re out of this awkward self-conscious phase Fair uh we’re also looking forward to sharing content from the new engine once it properly reflects our vision of hightail meanwhile the team continues to use the Legacy engine to prototype experiences and improve our development processes

Over the coming months more and more of our team will move over to working on the new engine bringing that expertise with them so we we could still be two three years off at this point like to move to a new engine that doesn’t just happen in say like 30 days and then

Everybody’s moved over like that is a gradual process yes uh Adventure advancements our adventure team has two missions first they create the tools and content necessary for players to tell their own stories in a blocky world then they use the same tools to build the world of Oris uh the setting for High’s

Official Adventure experience the more they talk about it like this the more I wonder if the world will be a set map you know what I mean or whether it will be biome specific with pre-designated uh prefabs placed inside of it I really can’t tell at this point

Whether they’re going to go for set designed world like a standalone single player video game or whether they will allow it to be a bit more minecrafty and have those narrative beats but you know it will look different each time you do it I just it’s getting very blurred as time goes on

Um so yeah and orbis provides the Baseline uh from which many such worlds can be made this naturally is our primary focus however Oris is also where we get to tell Tales of our own through Adventure experiences that we refer to as the story of orus we spent a lot of

Time revisiting oris’s history creatures and characters over the last year taking a critical look at every element to ensure it matches our goals for the game much of this effort has been focused on orit’s factions Okay so we’ve got the quebeck and the tro and the quebeck are

The tree folk the tros are like orc type ones ferin are almost like weasly sort of ferret looking fellas uh and the scars are basically like dung beetles like you know like desert beetles um we’ve been making real progress here expanding their roles and capabilities deepening the backstory by

In the image above tree singers play an important role in the Quebec they’re the tail tellers and respected leaders responsible for passing down wisdom of the ages to each new generation of seedlings so they basically speak to the spirits that reside in trees if I remember correctly uh the role cannot be

Adopted without sacrifice in normal circumstances older Quebec eventually put down roots and become Tre that was the one yeah uh in this form they can Slumber for great spans of time as Village Life continues around them nice uh let me have a quick drink hold on tree singers however resist this

Transformation uh in doing so they become intermediaries between young queeks and their sleeping Elders I feel like I’d want to stay alive forever I wouldn’t be wouldn’t want to be stuck on the spot BS to that um where is it uh bridge between the past and present uh while we’ve

Always been fond of the bearded tree singer of old we wanted to open up this particular design to reinterpretation here are a few of our initial Explorations they’re pretty cool I love the overgrown feeling of them it’s really nice that one I’m not quite as in

That feels almost a bit like that feels like a fortnite skin doesn’t it that feels like they’ve taken like a bit of Groot a bit of a quebe and then pop some broccoli on the top with some weird like Barky uh shim pads on as well and then

We got this one after working through several iterations our artists and designers we started to favor a much larger more ponderous version of our wisen Quebec we resonated with this image of a tree singer who after resting in one spot for slightly too long has to exert significant willpower to pull its

Roots from the ground and start moving again oh interesting that is really cool look at like the staff as well that it wields or he uses it as a bit like a walking stick is that a play that looks very like hilts and swordy look at the scale of it compared

To a player that’s nuts it’s really quite tall it was uh then our animation 3D modeling and VFX team um reimagine the quebeck and brought them to life look how cute this thing is dude and you got the little seedlings that run around as well I’m loving the tree beard yeah

Honestly I like the eyebrows the most I the eyebrows look really cool very cool very cute uh ooh nature is not always green I mean I guess it’s all Tumbl and everything isn’t it the great thing about the collaborative efforts like this one uh is the way it

Brings new ideas and greater depth to our world building for example the process of redesigning tree singers led us to re-evaluate how queeks build their homes and craft their equipment and our artist suggested that they might use music to encourage plants to grow into helpful shapes um this was the seed of

What we now refer to as Sunwood an ornate wooden material that can be us you can see in Quebec clothing and in their redesigned Villages oh we get see redesigned Villages damn look at that shot holy dude love it love it love it uh right this is one small example of a

Larger creative effort uh we have a lot more to share in the future as every single faction has undergone a reevaluation much like this one this isn’t even the only new kind of queen back sick uh a capital for avatars in hiel the heart of online social play is

A shared place called the capital this is where players from all parts of hiel come together to make friends share experiences compete in mini games discover new adventures seek challenges trade show off pets and Companions and more interesting it says about trading I’m really intrigued to know what that entails

Like I don’t know like is there going to be is it a case of the capital will exist on the official multiplayer server like the official hi/ Hypixel multiplayer server and then there’ll be you know ongoing wealth and growth and stuff like that like is it going to feel

A bit more like an MMO for that one specific server I wonder the capital is a testament to all things that avatars have built and achieved in the past and looks ahead to the exciting things they’ll do in the future most importantly though it’s intended to be a

Celebration of what the high tail Community is up to development of the capital has been another important part of this year’s creative uh and design efforts while we’re not uh yet ready for the full and veiling I wanted to make sure we touched on the nature of the
