Hello everyone my name is pixel riffs and welcome back to the Minecraft Survival Guide I hope you guys are having a good day there is a sheep watching me always so today’s episode we’re going to be working on a super smelter finally we did our introduction To auto smelting I don’t know how many episodes ago probably quite a few episodes by now but I have taken down every automatic smelting setup that I’ve built and the reason for that is that I want to build one over here at founders forge in fact I want to build quite a Few because each of these smelters is going to be tied to a blacksmith and adding to the lore of this area a little bit we already have a blacksmith’s guild which implies that there is more than one blacksmith right we’re actually going to have five and that seems like Quite a large number for your average survival world and that is because one of the things I want to do with this world which I’ve explained in the past is kind of create a story that’s going on here we want to create like a kingdom here that has lots of different trades Going on lots of different kind of people living and working here all at once and so while this might not necessarily be kind of a a typical survival world thing oh of course it’s raining of course it’s raining while I try and make my video while this might Not be a typical survival world thing to build lots of like different auto smelter ease instead of just one that you use constantly it’s kind of part of the story it’s not necessarily going to be like a practical thing so much as a fun thing for the immersion of the world So that when I eventually release a world download for this place and people can explore it then it feels like it’s kind of more lived-in I guess so we’re going to build the first of our five blacksmiths here on the plains there’s going to be five different ones in sort of different Biomes I guess or in different places there’s gonna be one here on the plains one over there in the old town swamp one up in the mountains one in the castle that we’re going to be building over there and I think I might do one in the Forest as well and the idea behind that is that they’re each going to be using different materials for their fuel and stuff and and maybe smelting and specializing in different things because the 1.14 update that’s about to come out fairly soon I don’t know exactly when I Say about to come out like I’m not sure exactly when at the time of this recording that update is actually going to have these two additional blocks that are used for cooking stuff they’re actually going to be a smoker and a blast furnace the smoker does foo the blast furnace does materials like Ore and things like that so it can smelt iron ingots for you and they both work approximately twice as fast as a furnace so I thought it would be really good to have multiple blacksmiths around here so that each of them can sort of specialize and maybe the one in The forest isn’t necessarily so much a blacksmith as he is like a producer of food and things like that but is gonna have like a similar auto smelting setup so the one down here on the plains is going to be a general one it’s going to do more or less everything and is Probably going to be the main one we ultimately use but then the one up in the mountains is going to exclusively smelt stuff with cold that he’s mined from the local area he’s probably going to specialize in like raw materials like ore and stuff like that the one in the Forest is going to smoke stuff maybe the one out in the swamp is going to the use excuse exclusively kelp as the fuel and we can set up a kelp farm out there and stuff because it’s more of an aquatic environment I think that’d be kind of Fun so and the one in the castle I don’t know the one in the castle is probably going to be like the mass production one born that’s melts like stacks upon stacks of material in an instant but the one here is going to be relatively humble we’re going to use 16 furnaces We’re gonna need a ton of hoppers for this of course because we all need input hoppers for both the top of the furnaces for the fuel and for the output so we can need a bunch of those thankfully I went ahead and made a bunch of hoppers Off-camera now that I’ve got an iron farm it’s so easy to do that we’re gonna need a few mine carts for that as well so we’ll probably need some hop online carts to enter the materials in from an input chest and then we’ll just need a few other redstone components to make it Work lots of powered rail a few power sources for those that kind of thing but this is going to be a relatively simple construction just to start us off and then maybe we’ll get into some more interesting and advanced auto furnace designs when we end up doing the other Four blacksmiths okay preamble over let’s get this thing built we’re gonna have to build it in the rain for now but such is the way with Minecraft I think I will probably end up going to sleep at some point soon but no worries we’ll get Some chests on the go first in theory we should just need a few different chests for this we need an input chest we need an output chest we need a chest in a minecart maybe to collect the to have the fuel and stuff input let’s actually Make that now that sounds like a good idea and of course this place is going to need a floor so let me quickly run off and get some building materials okay we’re gonna lay down some stone for a floor probably mix in a little bit of wood Here and there but it seems like a blacksmith would want to have a stone floor just so that stuff didn’t naturally catch fire I have fire tik turned off in this world so I’m not that worried about that but I think it’s it’s good for immersion at least I actually Kind of like the curvature of this section over here the way it kind of wraps around like that I think I might use that in the design of this building it might be an interestingly shaped one sort of like a crescent moon at the front but yeah I think that’s that’s Actually gonna be a neat little design for this place okay I think this should be about the area we need it’s probably a little large but I do want to make this into a shopfront kind of things so we all probably have a little bit of decoration around the front of the Smelter but the Sun is going down so I’m gonna sleep to get rid of this rain there we go nice and clear again so I’m gonna put my output chest over here on the right-hand side we’re gonna build it relatively close to the end there we’re Gonna need a bunch of hoppers going into that and we’ll probably yeah let’s actually have the output chest facing this way and so for our inputs what we need is a hopper facing into that chest and then we want to do a row of 16 hoppers facing into each other like so We’ve got 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 there we go and these are going to be the output hoppers for each of the row of furnaces that’s going to be placed along here and as you can see I’ve built this place with a couple of blocks sort of headroom on each side because this thing is going to be a little bit large and it’s going to be a long straight thing you can sort of make these in different configurations you can move the furnaces around a little Bit if you want to but that’s gonna require a few more materials and it depends on the space that you’ve got right here we’ve got this big wide-open space and I feel like building a giant wall of furnaces along the bank wall there it just looks kind of cool to me But I think I ultimately might end up doing is covering up these hoppers with stone brick stairs or something like that it seems like a decent feature to have and that will conceal the mechanism of it to anybody visiting this place so it’ll make it look a little bit more I Guess mysterious and like the furnace is all just kind of light out but once when it gets started I think that’s gonna look pretty cool so we’re gonna place a lot of hoppers along the top and along the back of these furnaces to input the fuel and input the items to be smelted Along each of these we are going to run some powered rail bearing in mind that powered rail can connect side to side like that so we are gonna have to put a block on the end here for it to run on to to make sure that these two don’t Connect and while you’re breaking stuff around here do you remember that the hoppers can’t pick items up after you break them so if you didn’t get a rail back or if you’re worried that the furnaces aren’t working make sure to check them in case a powered rail has Gotten into the smelted item slot there because you won’t be able to actually cook it down into anything but yet if you break it like that it’s gonna end up trying to input it into the fuel hopper and then that might potentially backup the system later on if you’ve got too Much stuff in there the rail connecting thing is also happening because we’re placing these rails in a north-south configuration like I’m facing south here and rails like to connect east-west so if you’re building this in an east-west configuration if like one side is on the East the other side is on the West then you shouldn’t have to worry too much about the rails connecting but that’s just that’s just an unfortunate side effect of the system we’re trying to build here so in order to get the fuel into each of these furnaces we’ve got a Long fuel line running along the back here it turns here and then there’s a powered rail just linking this bit separate from the powered rail on the back because powered rail can’t turn bends and also because we want to control this section here basically you Want to have a lever that we can flip on and off and have that send a minecart up around here with all of the fuel the reason I’ve got 16 furnaces here by the way is because mathematically that works out if we have stacks of fuel in stacks Of 64 so if I put 64 fuel in here we’re only gonna ever put stacks of fuel in here at a time then each of these furnaces would in theory get four fuel each so that’s kind of the the mathematics of it the way that works out What I want to do is be able to pull a lever here and have the minecart just kind of set off around here obviously the minecart needs a block to come to rest against on this side so I’m gonna build a couple of dark oak logs here and Ideally what I want is for a lever to be attached to one of these and for it to power the powered rail behind it like so so when the lever is pulled down and is sparkling then the minecart is going to be sent off along the tracks here and It’s going to deliver fuel to each of these furnaces now the powered rails up here can be powered permanently because anytime the minecarts are running on these rails we want them to be receiving power so let’s add a block of redstone up here it’s a very simple power source To use all we need to do is plunk it somewhere in the middle of this on top of one of these powered rails like so okay roughly in the middle there looks like where the transmission distance is going to cover all of these powered rails this one at the end here Can just be a block and likewise that one because there aren’t any furnaces beyond that that’s looking good I think we’re gonna have two very active mine carts on these now yep looks like that’s working perfectly that one will deliver all the fuel it needs to and if we turn This lever off it just comes to rest at the end there now what we need to do is turn that into a minecart with a chest put it down there and that’s how we’re gonna fill up the fuel so let’s put a stack of coal in there just to make sure This all distributes nice and evenly it might have trouble with the ones at the ends no it looks like it has delivered two fuel to that one as it turns around fantastic so a few passes of that and we shouldn’t have any more problems with The fuel yep it looks like four coal has been delivered to each of the furnaces that’s absolutely perfect now we need to work on the input chest the input delivery mechanism and I think that’s probably going to be on this side above the output chest so that we don’t get it Too mixed up with the fuel delivery system over here and if we’re gonna have a double chest up here to input all of the items then the ideal way to collect all those is going to be via a hopper minecart so we’ll pop a mine car with a Hopper on this rail and it’s going to distribute the items evenly among these furnaces obviously we will have to put some kind of stopping block over here just to make sure that it doesn’t run off the end of the rail and onto the fuel line but what we want here ideally Is for the hopper minecart to fill up with items from the chest and then start distributing them among the furnaces here so it’s going to take a little bit of redstone trickery for that to work so I’ve done a little bit of testing and I think one of the best ways to distribute All of the items among these furnaces it’s going to be using a fairly simple hopper clock to activate the rails underneath the hopper minecart we’re actually gonna basically power this one specifically so that it will stay underneath this chest fill up with items and then travel away and it’s going to Fill up with items very quickly thankfully hopper minecarts run super fast when it comes to this stuff so all we need to do is set up a hopper clock that basically approximates the amount of time it will take for it to fill up completely from this chest which is to My reckoning about 16 seconds so we shouldn’t need that many items in the hopper clock it should only need like I think about a maximum of 40 items will be required for this and there are sir you can set up which basically wait for the hopper minecart to be full before Sending it on its way but there might be occasions on which I don’t want to completely fill up the hopper minecart when I’m smelting just a couple of stacks of stuff I don’t want the hop of minecart to be stuck here without actually outputting any of the items so I think what we’re gonna do is set up a hopper clock behind here much like the one we have in the mob spawner just to make sure that everything kind of takes over in the background and we could always set up a redstone circuit from the front here that could disable the Hopper clock so the minecart isn’t running unnecessarily but I think a hopper clock is going to be the best way forward for now or at least the simplest solution currently and then we can look into other solutions when we build the other auto smelters a little further Down the line so what we’re going to do is take the output from this hopper clock which has 40 items in and bring the redstone signal down here to underneath this redstone torch which is currently activating the powered rail on top of there but we’re going to use that Property of redstone torches where a redstone signal will actually turn them off if it’s affecting the block that they’re sat on so we’re probably going to bring this down here and then we can either have another redstone torch underneath this to power the block underneath and turn that one off and Then this just kind of reverses the signal each time or we can just directly power the block itself the most important thing is just to get the redstone signal out of the way of the rest of the components here because any of them receive power aside from this Hopper here because it’s gonna get power from the redstone block anyway it could potentially cause a problem for the hopper circuits so we just need to take the redstone away from there and over to this torch so when that’s deep powered that’s actually going to make sure the Hopper minecart stays on top of there and then when it powers again it’s going to send the minecart off on its way so now with the hopper clock set up over there it’s going to power and deep power this rail on about a twenty to thirty second interval I’m not entirely sure Exactly what the timing is but it is more than enough for the hopper minecart to drag as much of the contents of this chest as it can into its inventory and distribute it evenly amongst the furnaces which it’s been doing for a little bit now and there you go you can See all of the furnaces are merrily smelting away I put some stone bricks in here so we can have a ton of cracked stone bricks and that’s already been doing super well I will need to add some more fuel in here because basically all of these had like two coal If I want to disable the hopper clock from this site all we need to do is run a redstone signal into this block here which will permanently D power that redstone torch I’ll just add some redstone dust coming up to here like so we should be able to enable that or Disable that with a lever and that should permanently D power the rail there regardless of what the hopper clock is doing so the hopper clock will still continue to run in the background but it’s not going to affect this powered rail in any way there we go see It’s not doing a thing which is fantastic now all we need to do is switch that back on and the minecart should be able to roll on as long as the hopper clock is powering it very good okay I think this is all setup as far as The super smelter goes we have a ton of cracked stone bricks in here now all we need to sort out is the fuel as far as this furnace setup is concerned I’m just gonna stick to using coal for now we could easily use charcoal if we want Something renewable but coal is more or less renewable once we have a wither skeleton farm set up for the moment I think it’s probably going to be the best fuel solution for us it smelt 8 items at a time which is not too much but not too Little coal blocks would smell 80 items in total which while it’s obviously a saving on the amount of coal you have it probably isn’t necessary for this furnace setup because we’re only going to be using it to smelt like you know small batches of stuff I would expect so Let’s put as much coal as we can into the input the fuel input over here and that should be evenly distributed amongst the furnaces if we put a full sort of 16 stacks we’ve got 18 in there right now at 16 stacks will fill up the furnaces themselves and of course we can Have a little bit backlog there in the hoppers so that it can pull in fuel whenever it needs it send that minecart on its way it should it distribute everything nice and evenly between these furnaces which you’ll be just great and then we need to figure out some stuff to Smelt I guess I think we’re probably going to put an identical row of stone brick stairs over the top there so that you don’t need to see any of the hoppers you just get to see the furnaces in action we’ll still need to keep this section here open so we can access that Fuel input minecart but aside from that we can do more or less what we want with the rest of this place so I am working on making this build pretty and it’s coming along pretty well so far I like the idea of having this big log held up above the door and not Disguising the fact that that’s a log either because the rest of the wood in this build is kind of there just to be building material whereas this just looks like somebody’s chopped down a massive tree and laid it over the door of this house and it’s not connected to Anything it doesn’t feel structural it just feels imposing like a gateway and I like it I’m also trying to work on basically having the roof of this thing be a chimney with two separate maybe like more house like roof sections coming out on either side to simulate The idea that there is a chimney for this place for all the smoke from the furnaces to escape while in reality the furnaces do not produce any smoke at all except the occasional little particle effects and crackling fires in front of them I’m gonna work on this a little bit More over the weekend because I think I’m running out of time to make this video and I really want to get it out to you guys the auto smelting furnace is kind of the main project here anyway but we will work on the design of the blacksmith another time and I’ll recap Anything that I do over the weekend with this build so that you guys can get the full picture of what it eventually turns out like but that is going to be it for
