Hello everyone my name is Pixar riffs and welcome back to the Minecraft Survival Guide I hope you’re all having a good day it is raining in my world right now and I kind of don’t want to go out in it but I think we’re going to Have to today because we are gonna go and track down one of the structures that generates out there in the world which we haven’t had a chance to talk about yet and hopefully we’re going to meet some new friends while we’re there I’m gonna bring one of our horses with Me and I’m gonna make sure I’ve got some leads and a little bit of words just in case we need to craft a fence post to Hitch our horse too unfortunately the pig is gonna have to stay here because we need a little bit faster travel for This but I think we’ll Saddle Up The Diamond horse and ride off into I was gonna say the sunset but you can’t really see the sun right now I think we’re gonna try going north in search of the structure since it’s one that I haven’t found yet and to the north seems Like a sensible place to explore I also realized my mistake in not having brought a bed with me so we might have to kill a couple of sheep on the way for some wool and here we go kind of appropriate that it is still raining Because 2 the north of my base I have found a swamp this is very much the wetlands of Minecraft and somewhere within the boundary of this swamp I am hoping that we’re going to find a witch hut although it looks like the sun is going to set before I get the chance to Do that so I’m very quickly gonna sleep for the night and here in the morning we’re going to saddle up the horse once again and continue our search this seems like quite an expansive swamp which is a very good thing because there are a couple of other things we are hoping to Find here of course you’ll find abundant lily pads here in the swamp so it’s a good opportunity to pick up some of those if you want them to decorate your water spaces you can also get them renewably from fishing but since they are technically speaking junk you might Not get them as frequently if you’re using a better fishing rod another somewhat unique thing you will find in these swamp biomes is a flower called a blue orchid and they haven’t really been all that many as I’ve traversed the swamp around here but it seems like a Bunch have generated on the shore over here so we’re going to grab a couple of these to add to our collection and the horse is probably going to get dunked under the water a couple of times here but this alone Island seems to be the only place in which blue orchids have Generated we’re gonna bring back a couple of those and you can get more of them by bone mealing the ground anywhere in a swamp biome so similar to how dandelions and poppies will generate in other biomes you will get blue orchids simply by bone mealing the Earth from This high up Vantage Point here at the North End of the swamp we can take a look around and see if we can spot a witch hut and I’m actually having trouble seeing one it looks like we might have a swamp that does not contain one nope tragically I think I have come Full circle at this point and it seems like our swamp does not have a witch hut which is a shame but ultimately not the main purpose of our visit because as I have been exploring the swamp I’ve encountered a bunch of Critters that I really wanted to make the focus of this Episode and that is these fellas there are frogs here in the swamp and that’s why I brought some leads because we we’re going to attach a lead to this frog and with that tremendously cute walk cycle they’re gonna follow me as I walk around here I might even be able to Get on the horse and drag the Frog behind me but chances are they’ll have difficulty getting up some of these blocks so I need to be a little bit aware of what I’m doing but as you explore here you will find a bunch of frogs generate in these swamp biomes They are fond of Leaping around so if we wait for a little while I’m sure one of these is going to jump pretty high in the air there we go the one that’s attached to the lead even did it there we go we can let him free for the moment At least so these might be a little different to the frogs that we have encountered previously in the series we spotted them very briefly when we went to a mangrove swamp and the frogs over there were a whitish color instead of being this rather Pleasant orange the Reason for that is that there are actually three varieties of frog in the game two of which occur naturally and the way you get different types of frogs is for them to grow up in different biomes these frogs here are from a swamp which counts as a temperate biome kind Of like the medium temperature that Minecraft can generate and they are this lovely kind of corally orange mangrove swamps on the other hand are technically speaking some of the warmer biomes there are humid hot biome since they generate nearby to deserts and jungles and those kind of environments and the frogs that Grow up there are going to be white frogs meanwhile it is possible to get frogs that grow up in colder biomes to grow up green but they do not generate naturally and that is where frog breeding mechanics come in as night falls we are going to let the Sun set and I am very briefly going to make sure I tie up my horse somewhere visible and we are going to step out into the swamp in search of slimes now before we do this we should check the phase of the moon because when there is A new moon when you cannot see any of the face of the Moon it is not possible for slimes to spawn in a swamp biome slimes simply will not appear on the new moon and they will appear more frequently as the moon gets more and more full having previously only found Them in caves we will have an increased chance of running into slimes here in the swamp at night still if you don’t have too many leads from your wandering Trader visits now could be an excellent time to stock up on string and slime although speak of the devil it seems Like a Wandering Trader has already spawned here anyway sooner or later you are going to encounter some slimes spawning in the world and these little slimes are going to drop plenty of slime balls for us which is great we’ll need those in order to breed our frogs in Fact if you have the opportunity it’s actually kind of fun to see what happens if you kill a couple of larger slimes around some of these frogs because frogs will actually go up to baby slimes and eat them if we take a quick look around the other side of this tree you’ll see That this frog occasionally lashes out its tongue and eats one of the smaller slimes there you go as I deal with the zombies you can see that this frog is happily walking around and lapping up all of these baby slimes leaving behind the Slime balls that we as the player Can collect now since at this point in the game slime is a somewhat rare commodity you might want to spend more of the night Gathering up some slime so you can turn it into slime blocks and a variety of other things sticky pistons and of course additional leads but I’m Gonna clear out the rest of these slimes here and then we’re going to return to that little pack of frogs that is up there on the mountain side because they’ve spawned in a pretty convenient location for what we want to do next up here in our little mountain Bay and We’re going to create a little pool of water I might need to grab a bit more swamp water for this in fact in the water here you can actually see where the border of the swamp biome carries over into the mountainous biome much the same way as the grass color changes the Watercolor also subtly changes take a look at the swamp water down there it’s a little murky but a lot clearer actually than the blue water that you find over there that is more saturated with color now anyway let’s turn our attention back to the frogs once you’re Holding a slime ball in your hand frogs will happily Wander over towards you since it is their preferred food they can be tempted towards the player by it and we’re gonna do our best to encourage these two frogs to come over by this pool of water because when frogs breed They need some place to lay their spawn and the eggs that they lay need to be laid in water so the first thing we’ve done is create a source of water around here we’ve fed both of these frogs a slime ball and from a distance it seems Like they have mated to produce frog spawn now frogspawn is a block that is unobtainable in survival we can take a look at it here in the targeted block data on the right hand side there you’ll see that it says frog spawn but this is slightly too fragile for the player to Carry I believe you can’t even collect these using silk touch and after a while the Frog spawn will hatch into a tadpole in the meantime we could also look for another pair of frogs to breed since these will allow us to accelerate this process slightly here we go we’ll bring These two over by the water side we’ll detach the leads and allow them to breed and hopefully we should get some more frog spawn over here by this pool in just a second this time they’re taking a moment just to wander on over here but Sooner or later there we go one of them is going to lay some frog spawn similar to other animals frogs will have a breeding cooldown so you might want to attach a few of them to a fence post just to keep them around since they have A tendency to wander off or jump away keeping a slime ball held in your hand is another option the frogs will simply wait around patiently and you can always right click on them occasionally to see if they’re ready to cool down from breeding and produce another set of frog Spawn there we go but eventually the Frog spawn will hatch into multiple tadpoles and from one set of frog spawn there we ended up getting five tadpoles which is really quite special tadpoles much like fish can be collected in a water bucket so we can actually scoop up This tadpole and get the bucket bucket advancement we can leave the tadpole in here for now but what I want to do is create another little Lake over here in the Windswept Hills biome which counts as a colder biome So in theory over here if we create another little three by Three pool of water that’s directly in the biome and doesn’t have any Crossover with the swamp biome on the side here we should be able to grow these tadpoles into a different color of frog using my bucket here I’m simply going to transfer a couple of them over to this Pond and We might want to leave a little barrier around the outside as well because tadpoles can get a little bit overzealous when they swim and there’s a chance they could flop out onto one of the blocks on the side here and begin to suffocate in the same way that fish do While frogs are amphibious they can go in water or on land tadpoles haven’t quite developed that survival in distinct yet but it is perfectly possible to breed frogs in any location pick up the tadpoles and move them somewhere else in order to get certain varieties of frog whichever one you’re Missing which is most likely going to be the green variety from a colder biome you can move the tadpoles there and once they mature they will grow up into a different color of frog regardless of the biome in which they were originally bred I’ve moved six of our tadpoles over Here to the Windswept Hills biome and we have a handful of frog spawn still waiting here to hatch so we should get plenty more orange frogs from the ones that grew up in this swamp bio and a few of our frogs have hatched but unfortunately it seems like I was Incorrect about the position they’re in in this biome and they’ve all emerged as temperate frogs so a Windswept Hills isn’t cold enough that’s really quite interesting considering how the grass color is around here it really feels like the Prototype of a mountain biome so I do think we’ll need to take some of These elsewhere let me in the snow up there on the peak come on this feels like a cold biome to me not to worry though let’s grab some more iron and let’s buck it up some more of these tadpoles so yes it seems like I should Have read up on my biomes a little bit more because Windswept Hills still produce temperate frogs the orange kind and soda Meadow biomes for the records so don’t get caught out by that especially since we have a meadow by I’m fairly close to our starting area Where’s my lead gone this horse has just been obediently Waiting by this fence post the entire time well not to worry we’re gonna pack up our little Camp here I have got nine tadpoles in Bucket from our little breeding colony of frogs up there we’re gonna return to our starting Area and we’re gonna try something else but one last footnote before we leave when you encounter a swamp biome in your own world do keep your eyes peeled for a witch hut they are simple structures made out of spruce wood a single witch and a black cat will spawn inside of Them you might find the witch just kind of wandering around the swamp if you’ve been in the area for a little while and while they might seem unassuming at first they can be relatively powerful places to spawn witches frequently they aren’t used as often in the game anymore Because in order to effectively have them as a witch spawner you have to spawn proof all of the terrain around them and that now includes an additional 64 levels of caves but since witches can drop a Redstone Glowstone gunpowder spider eyes sticks and empty glass bottles they actually make for a really Useful mob to farm if you’re able to get decent spawn rates out of a single witch hut but that is something we’ll probably tackle later in the series on account of not even having found a witch hut in this swamp we’re gonna need to look a little further afield for another swamp For that to happen in the meantime let’s head back to our spawn area and let’s go frog breeding and it turns out that the perfect place to breed multiple varieties of frogs was actually right here on our doorstep this is the mountain really close to our spawn point this is a negative 1100 370 ish and this tall mountain peak is the one that we’ve explored in previous episodes which has the giant Basin behind here the Big Snowy Peaks that leads into a Stony Peaks where all the calcite we mined is and on this slope down here since it kind of crosses over Into a couple of warmer biomes there is an area where we have a temperate Stony Peaks biome a cold Grove biome and a warm jungle biome and it is right here that we’ll be able to breed all three varieties of frogs in a very small space So over here in the Grove we can cut away some of this snow and have a 3X3 spawning area for frogs right in here adjoining that we can dig out a 3X3 area right here which if we Block in this unfortunately placed cave we can have a 3X3 area that’s entirely forest and Stony Peaks which counts as a temperate biome then finally we’ll take down a jungle tree to fill this 3×3 up for our sparse jungle spawning area and in each of these we will plant three tadpoles once again I’m not keen on my tadpoles just jumping off the mountain right away So we’re going to make sure that they can grow up in here safely with the blocks around the outside over here in the snowy biome we need to make sure that the water doesn’t freeze over into ice so we’ll probably need to surround this one with a liberal amount of Torches and here in the temperate patch we’ll make sure we have three tadpoles in there as well and now all we have to do is wait another 20 minutes for all of these to grow up although incredibly one of them has already grown up and I’m fairly certain that is the tadpole that Was the most developed when we brought it over here because if you end up bucketing a tadpole after it’s spent some time in the world there we go there’s another one the amount of time it’s spent as a tadpole in the world still counts towards its overall growth That’s not gonna reset when you pick it up in a bucket and place it somewhere else it isn’t going to take another 20 minutes to grow up so if we wanted to I could grab a bit more slime and we already have some frogs here that could Spawn we already have a green one as well fantastic we’ve got one right here and we finally get to take a look at the green frog along with adding to a certain advancement oh sounds like we need to be a little careful about some of these growing up inside the walls of These enclosures yeah sometimes if a tadpole is too close to the edge of a block like this it could end up suffocating in the block when it grows into a full-size frog so that’s something to be vaguely aware of however as I was saying there is an advancement For getting all three types of frog on a lead it’s here in the husbandry Tab and it’s called when the squad hops into town but you can do that individually you don’t need to have all three frogs on a lead at once it just kind of makes Sense if you’ve got all three of them around and you haven’t attached any of them to leads yet speaking of leads I only have three of those with me and it seems like our other frogs are going to take a little while still to grow up so What I’m gonna do is detach this frog from the lead we’re going to take this frog and the other two down the mountain oh there’s our other orange frog it managed to uh glitch through the bottom of our spawning pool into this cave well there you go we didn’t end up losing a Frog after all so anyway I’m gonna take these three frogs down the mountain as carefully as I can to make sure they don’t take too much full damage but they can fall from a slightly higher height than other mobs before they take damage because they’re used to Jumping pretty High we’re gonna row these three frogs back to our starter area and as you can see frogs are definitely at home in the water they will catch up pretty quickly they are much more agile on the water than they are on land making it pretty easy to transport them across an ocean Like this the main thing to be aware of is this occasionally the frogs will get in your boat as you get out of it so you’ll need to break the boat and reattach the leads but having successfully brought these three Critters back to my starter area we’re Going to place down a fence post leash them all to that so they don’t end up going anywhere we’re gonna grab a bunch more leads and slime and head back to our frog breeding Zone well it is currently snowing and raining at our frog breeding area and what better way To illustrate the fact that we clearly have a snowy biome here with a couple of rainy temperate biomes one here and one here and we finally have our third frog to add to our collection so if we pop this one on a lead we’re gonna get that advancement when the squad hops into Town there we go so now I’ve got enough leads that we should be able to tie up all of these frogs to a fence post or simply drag them all behind us in order to take them back to the spawn area but speaking of Spawn we probably want to Make sure that we have a little bit of frog spawn waiting for us up here in the event that anything happens to these frogs and we want to breed some more in future so I’m just gonna very quickly take a few of these off the lead and Feed them some slime balls so they can produce a bit of frog spawn for us and wherever the tadpoles end up we can simply move them to one of the other areas where the frogs will grow up in a different biome and be a different color With that taken care of we’ve got all six of our remaining frogs on the lead we’re gonna drag them down the mountain just like we did the last ones row on home and Leash them to the fence post with the other three frogs and they kind Of look like a bunch of balloons being dragged through the water somehow as we head back to our starting area but you might be wondering at this point why go to all this trouble to breed all three different colors of frogs they’re very cute they’re very colorful but at first Glance it seems like they don’t have a great deal of utility to them and for the secret behind these frogs we have to go back to that advancements tab because if you haven’t figured it out yet the advancements tab is actually a really useful way of checking out your progress Throughout the game and even hinting at a few things that you can do the progression of the game is here in the Minecraft Tab and you can see there are a few things that we need to do in an upcoming episode The husbandry tab here is the one that’s contained all of the Stuff about frogs and you’ll notice that there is a third advancement next to the ones for catching a tadpole in a bucket and having each frog variant on a lead and it says with our powers combined have all frog lights in your inventory and that is your first indication that There might be more to these frogs than meets the eye so in order to get hold of those frog lights we’re actually going to have to go through to the Nether and prepare a little bit of stuff around our nether spawn area to begin with I’m going to remove any magma blocks that Appear directly out of the front of my nether portal at this point I’m used to crouching to avoid them it seems like the frogs aren’t going to be quite that safety conscious and so when we bring them through this nether portal which we are going to do in a second we’ll need To make sure that they have some Solid Ground underneath their feet and it’s not going to burn their little froggy toes likewise we’re going to remove any lava in the immediate area because we know that frogs are potentially going to be jumping into that and we’re gonna Kill a couple of the magma cubes around here just so we have a little space to work to begin with but I might actually leave a couple of these magma cubes just in the small stage and while they’re bobbing up up and down in the lava we Can fill in a couple more blocks over here we’ll break down some more of this Basalt so we can flatten out the area a little more and this already seems like a decent enough space in which to work there’s a staircase down here to our netherite mine so we’re going to leave That untouched but I’m going to plant a fence post in the middle of this area and we’re going to run back through our near the portal to the Overworld back in the Overworld we’re going to embrace the chaos of taking all of these frogs off their leads at once so we’re gonna try Our best to Corral two of each color and attach them to the fence post and then we’re gonna keep one of each color on the lead that we’re going to bring with us over to the nether portal there we go we’ve got an orange one a white one and A green one and if we didn’t have the advancement for getting all three of them on leads already we’d be getting it right now but with all three of these frogs here I’m gonna hop on top of the nether portal and wait for each of the Frogs to go on through there we go now I’m going to step back through to the nether portal collecting the leads that these frogs dropped as I go and you’ll see that they are already making short work of those Magma Cube so we’re going to tie them up to the fence post here And take a look at what they have just dropped because these are the Frog lights that the advancement there was mentioning we have three ocher frog lights and two verdant frog lights and this is the hidden property of frogs not only do they kill the little baby slimes In swamps and it caused them to drop slime balls they will actually eat small magma cubes digest them and spit out these frog lights which are a light source in a similar way to glowstone Redstone lamps lanterns anything like that they will give off a light level of 15 at the source block so now in addition to making my nether spawn area safer by flattening out the terrain and moving all of those magma blocks we can actually lure some magma cubes in here and have them eaten by the frogs and we end up getting blocks for that we’ve Effectively turned our near the spawn area into a kind of Lo-Fi Farm once this large Magma Cube gets close enough all I have to do is attack it a couple of times to have it split into medium sized cubes and once they they broken down into little magma cubes all we have to Do is stand over here so that the magma cubes will come in range of the frogs and after a few seconds the frogs will happily eat them all up dropping frog lights as they do and each of the different colors of frog will drop a different kind of frog light you’ll Notice that the green one always drops verdant frog lights the orange one always drops ocher frog lights and the white one hasn’t eaten any magma cubes yet but when it eventually does it will drop a pearlescent Frog Light and there we go we get the advancement with our Powers combined for having all three frog lights in our inventory the pearlescent frog lights are this lovely purple bordered block and once again they give off a pretty decent amount of light so one of the considerations when making a nether hub for this area one of The things I’m planning on doing when we end up converting this into a much safer place for us to travel around is to create an area of this Basalt Delta biome where magma cubes can still spawn which might make the nether Hub a dangerous environment if we are still in The same area as them but maybe we put it underneath a glass floor and leave a bunch of frogs down there to passively collect frog lights from these magma cubes every time we wander through the nether that’s a design we’re looking to in a future episode because of course The frogs will only attack the smallest type of magma cube and the largest ones won’t have anything to break them down unless we intervene somehow so we’re going to tackle that in a future episode for now I’m just delighted to have our Frogger breeding program underway and these frogs are gonna do fantastically Well here they’re dropping off the occasional lighting block for us to mess around with but folks that is where we’re going to wrap up this episode of the Minecraft Survival Guide I do hope you’ve enjoyed this preliminary look at frogs it’s a shame we didn’t find a Witch hut in our swamp but hopefully it will end up spotting one in the not too distant future thank you so much for watching my name has been Pixar riffs don’t forget to leave a like on this video If you enjoyed it subscribe if you Want to see more and I’ll see you folks soon take care bye for now Video Information

The Minecraft Survival Guide Season 3 continues in Minecraft 1.20! This tutorial takes us to a swamp biome where we can take a closer look at Frogs.
Frogs can be found naturally in Swamp and Mangrove Swamp biomes, in two different colours – but a third colour of frog can be acquired if the frog grows up in a colder biome! To help that happen, we look at breeding frogs using slimeballs, waiting for their frogspawn to turn into tadpoles, then relocating the tadpoles to specific biomes.
We set up a frog spawning area where all three types of frogs can be acquired, earning an advancement for attaching all three frogs to leads – then we take our three frog types to the Nether so they can eat Magma Cubes and drop Froglights!
