Hello everyone my name is pixel riffs and welcome back to the hardcore survival guide let’s raid an ocean monument and here is the ocean the ocean monument if you remember from our previous episodes is out in this direction so we’re going to get set off in a boat now i have made a Couple of preparations before attempting this ocean monument first of all i went and traded with villages to get my xp up so i could do some enchanting enchanted depth strider onto some boots and got myself a respiration three and aqua affinity on a helmet respiration won’t matter all that much Since we are using some potions of water breathing but it is going to help in a pinch if we need it to and trust me a few extra seconds of underwater oxygen is going to be enough to save your life i also did a bit of re-enchanting on my Sword crafted myself a couple of extra bits and pieces but that is really it i have some doors with me i have all of the potions that we brewed up in the last episode that are relevant to raiding an ocean monument which is mainly night vision and water breathing And i brought a bucket of milk with me for reasons that will become clear a little bit later but first of all we’ve located the ocean monument it’s out there surrounded by the guardians and they’re fairly easy to spot especially at night because of the sea lanterns That glow from under the surface of the water also from the fact that guardians will kill any squid that’s spawned nearby so if you happen to spot some ink floating on the surface from a distance chances are there’s an ocean monument nearby now there are a couple of different approaches To taking over these places i will probably just do it the standard way for now there are ways that you can use tnt to explode your way into the monument from the surface even though it’s waterlogged you can still get tnt to damage those blocks But i think i’m going to do this the standard way because i actually really like exploring these things it’s kind of a challenge a bit of a maze inside of there the first thing we’re going to be doing is getting a little bit closer we’re going to drink a couple of potions But there are a couple of ways you can approach this we can get into the monument and once the mining fatigue kicks in we drink a bucket of milk to dispel the effect but first of all i think we’re probably going to do this the normal way so i’m Going to drink a potion of night vision for extra visibility and a potion of water breathing and then i’m going to dive into the water and try and swim away from any guardians that are going to attack me because these laser attacks are not to be trifled with one great way of dealing With guardians though break their line of sight we’re actually going to apply a couple of doors to the front here and that’s going to prevent them from actually targeting me it also if you remember from our shipwreck episode allows you to step into an air pocket and recover Any oxygen that you might need to but it looks like there’s only one way we can go in this ocean monument and there is the mining fatigue now i’m exploring to find elder guardians i’m not gonna bother killing the regular guardians and it looks like the only elder guardian i can See right now is up here so i’m gonna swim up into this room start attacking him lay down a couple of hits with the sword try not to get hit by that laser beam and recover my health as soon as my hunger dips below a certain level looks like he’s only a Couple of hits away though there we go and we got our first elder guardian kill i’ve also brought a potion of strength too just in case we need those fights to go a little faster but i think that went pretty well so a lot of people approach ocean Monuments with the idea that you need to fight all the guardians you see and that is really not the case you don’t need to mess with regular guardians at all while you’re exploring these areas there’s a sponge room here fantastic we will deal with that later really all you need To do is run away from the guardians or alternatively have them run away from you as we encounter guardians in these rooms it will be slightly easier to show you but unless they are cornered like this one is here guardians will tend to swim away From you if you get too close to them it’s a defense mechanism that also allows you to fight them a little bit easier because if a guardian targets you all you really need to do is break its line of sight like so so we can swim around a couple of the pillars here To get rid of all of these laser beams on us and then you just need to swim towards them and then they’ll kind of curl up in fear and swim away so when you’re fighting the elder guardian in rooms like this you’ve just got to stay away from some Of the other guardians circle around the pillars so you don’t get too lasered and just go in for the kill there we go that’s elder guardian number two down pretty much instantly i’m sorry that visually that looked like complete chaos but hopefully we should be good to go target elder Guardian number three now we’ve got the one in the pillar room we’ve got the one at the top of the monument the last guy we want to find is going to be in the opposite wing of the monument so let’s see if we can try And make our way over there we can swim up into this crawl space inside the monument and i don’t know if we’re going to be able to find our way down from here sometimes they generate like this on the other side yep we can come down into here and this Room should contain the other guardian fantastic let’s take this guy out before any of his cronies decide to spawn on us just got to use those pillar strats to break the line of sight from the guardians lasers there we go we got hit by the smaller one but not the elder Swim around that pillar a couple of times and they’ll curl up again retract those laser beams and allow you to deal some damage now it’s worth noting that i have protection for on basically all of the armor pieces that i can manage and protection for is probably your best bet against Guardians attacks because they attack using a fairly unique attack type it’s actually like magic attacks there we go that is our next guardian down just gotta break the line of sight of these guys and now we don’t have to worry too much about mining fatigue so i Can sit in a corner with a couple of doors around me and we can stop and think for a minute there we go welcome to my little air pockets there’s one guy looking at me from the ceiling but he’s not really going to bother me because They tend to swim away from you when they get too close like i said so yeah guardians generally attack using magic it’s a weird kind of attack type that’s only shared by them and which splash potions of harming but that means that blast protection fire protection none of That stuff is really going to be effective i go for as much protection as i can manage when i’m dealing with one of these places and believe me depth strider is essential in making sure that you can swim around at maximum speed while you’re in here Now let’s take a quick look at our potions hud we have cleared out all of the elder guardians we have three wet sponges from taking out the elders and mining fatigue is now ticking down for the next minute but we have another three minutes of both night vision and Water breathing so i’m just going to wait for the mining fatigue to expire here in this corner where nothing is really going to bother us then i can break these doors swim around the monument a little bit deal with the rest of the guardians and grab any supplies i want from here And honestly these monuments are fairly straightforward to deal with you can take out the little guardians if you want to but i recommend not really dealing with them unless you are in a one-on-one situation and you can just swipe at them a couple of times but realistically you Don’t need to fight every guardian you come across and it will honestly be worse for you if you do now that the mining fatigue is wearing off though we should be able to break blocks at the normal rate that’s what stops you from breaking blocks the rest of the time and remember all You really need to do to find the elder guardians is find a route up to this room at the top of the monument and then find your way to the left and the right wings of the monument that you can kind of see as you come in through the front door Now the reason i wanted to get hold of respiration and aqua affinity is so i could spend a little bit more time dismantling some of the rooms of the monument that have the most valuable resources and we can convert this whole area into a guardian farm later in the series generating a Lot of guardians really quickly and killing them nice and easily for their drops which include prismarine shards and crystals and basically every block that’s in an ocean monument can be made using those drops with the exception of dark prismarine which has to be made using ink sacs as well and that’s the Reason i tend to spend a bunch of time gathering dark prismarine from these monuments once i’ve killed the elder guardians and i can mine blocks again is that it’s simply easier to get hold of dark prismarine this way instead of having to build a squid farm and a Guardian farm just to acquire a large amount of it and the flickering of my vision kind of suggests that i need to take another water breathing and a night vision potion i’m going to take the night vision first as the water breathing wears off and there we go once Again we have eight minutes of each effect but now with no more elder guardians to deal with i can take out all the blocks i want so this is a pretty straightforward and largely fairly safe way of taking out these ocean monuments if anything i over prepare compared to some of the players I’ve seen who will go in with just a couple of doors use those to create air pockets and fight the elder guardians as soon as they find them and i’ve done that on occasion but in a world like this where we’re focusing on it being a hardcore world i really Don’t feel like taking my chances that way so what exactly are we here for well mostly honestly we are here for three things dark prismarine sea lanterns and sponges we did briefly see a sponge room as we were swimming around so i’m going to try and make my way back To that if i can find it but most of the dead end rooms in these monuments will have dark prismarine in this formation around the outside of the walls we also have the opportunity to grab a few extra blocks of gold from this central room at the back of the monument Which has this kind of core that is made up of gold blocks dark prismarine and sea lanterns which is one of my favorite things to take out of these monuments and here is the last room that we’re looking for the sponge room now the best tool for breaking sponges is a hoe but To save inventory space i didn’t bring one of those with me i am briefly gonna make myself a wooden hoe to see if that really helps us break these any faster but i have a feeling that it won’t it’s a little bit faster i may as well just Use it with efficiency we would clear the entire room in seconds i think but sponges are really useful tools for clearing water out of an area once we have dried up these sponges they’ll be able to absorb water and that’s really useful for projects like ink farms when you want to Clear all of the water out of a river to set some stuff up or alternatively if you wanted to clear out the interior of an ocean monument and convert it into a base which i won’t be doing in this series because i’ll probably end up making a guardian Farm at some point instead but it’s a nice idea if you want to start a base somewhere that’s already built out for you i have about 45 seconds left on my second set of night vision and water breathing potions i’ve just been going through each of the rooms of the monument systematically Taking out the sea lanterns and the dark prismarine and so far it’s been going really well every time i get into a large area like this full of guardians i just try and circle the pillars or swim towards them so they swim away most of the time i’m just kind of hiding in Corners here and there trying to break line of sight from their laser beams and overall it’s a pretty effective way of making sure you emerge from an ocean monument unscathed if you ever need a bit of room to breathe just throw a couple of doors down in a corner the rushing sound in Your ears fades away a little bit and you should be able to drink your next potions of water breathing you’ll probably find that you fill up your empty potion bottles with water right away and that can kind of clog up the inventory so i’m just going to drink the rest of these Water bottles and then we’ll take the night vision potion we’ll take the water breathing and we should be able to wrap up raiding this monument so with about three minutes left on our last water breathing and night vision potions i’ve got basically everything i want from this monument There are some sea lanterns outside the main entrance which we could gather but it’s a little bit more open out there it’s kind of harder to get hold of them and i’ve already got a stack and a half of sea lanterns and plenty of dark prism marines so i Don’t really feel like hanging around here for any longer than is necessary only one sponge room in this ocean monument but the sponge is definitely going to come in handy we got our blocks of gold i think it’s probably time to head back to the hobbit hole and exiting an ocean Monument can be just as dicey as entering one because of the amount of guardians that are now spawned outside but honestly swimming between those arches that spawn at the gateway of an ocean monument is usually a good enough way of breaking the line of sight of these guardians and i think i’d probably Better leave now because this one has decided he’s going to follow me once again there are a few sea lanterns and a little bit more dark prismarine on the outside of the monument structure but i think it’s fair enough to leave those alone we got hold of what We wanted time to head back on our way home of course we can take a quick look around the ocean and maybe spot some of the stuff that we’ve missed now that we have night vision and water breathing some of these landmarks are going to be Nice and easy to dive down to like the shipwreck here which would probably just show up as a silhouette if we saw it without night vision but with night vision and water breathing we can easily dive down and grab any of the contents which honestly aren’t looking that great to me right now Yeah it looks like that one was a bit of a duds never mind though you can also see some geodes from the surface there’s a couple of them around here that look pretty obvious they stand out once you know what to look for and if i dive On down here oh there’s creepers and zombies running around inside of there well i maybe i won’t mess with that after all especially not with the drowned after me right here i was gonna look around to see if we could find a drowned with a trident but i see that My night vision and water breathing are now wearing off so i think it’s probably time yep to return to the boat see if we can get some sleep somewhere and then head back to the hobbit hole ah home sweet home and i think from this adventure i’m gonna stick all of the prismarine The shards the sponges all of that stuff in here we’re gonna put the sea lanterns in there as well i think i am going to take a quick trip to the nether though because that provides a really nice way of drying out these sponges i think we’ll swap the Wooden hoe for the more efficient one though because it’s going to be a lot easier to gather up the sponges that way and the sun is pretty high in the sky so we don’t need to worry too much about it being daytime once we get back Let’s take a brief trip through to the nether i will just need to be a little bit careful here because i don’t have any gold armor on me and the only gold i brought with me was blocks so i won’t really have much luck distracting the piglens That way but if you have wet sponges you can put them in a furnace to dry them out but it is honestly faster if there’s a nether portal nearby to simply come through and place them in the nether where the steam will evaporate off them and they will Instantly become dried sponges again all you need to do is place them and then break them again which is very easy to do if you have an efficiency hoe just gotta mine through them as though you’re insta mining netherrack or stone with a beacon or anything like that we’ll place the rest Of these here just so they all end up drying out and now we have these sponges to use on whatever we want and sponges are an incredibly powerful tool like i said if you place a sponge down in an area of water it has the capacity To absorb up to 65 blocks of water whether that be flowing water or water sources from a seven by seven by seven area around the meaning if i place one down in the middle of this naturally formed lake it basically dries up the entire thing now notice i placed it Very much in the center of this area because if i placed it to one side it wouldn’t have enough reach to absorb water from the other side likewise if i place it in the river here it’s going to absorb a bunch of the water sources but because of minecraft to water physics Some others around the outside will reform i don’t want to mess with this part of the river too much so i’ll just reform a few of these water sources and you’re probably familiar enough with water physics but if you aren’t i’ll go over a quick couple of examples here First of all a water source block is the block from which water flows outward this is the thing that you pick up and replace with a bucket you can’t right click on any of the flowing water to fill a bucket of water it has to be from the source itself if You place two sources a block apart they will create an infinite water source meaning that you can take water from the central area there and they will simply reform a third source in the middle this is what allows water to kind of flow together the way that it does this Will also work diagonally so if you place a water source there and a water source there this corner here as you can see becomes still again meaning that that is a water source that we can now take from and using that we can just place a few water sources a Block apart from each other every time and slowly refill this pond until it’s all back to normal we’re gonna place another sponge in the center there to get rid of it and i’ll show you one other thing about water that tends to baffle people a little bit but It’s fairly easy to cope with once you get the hang of it water will always try and take a path downhill before it flows out horizontally so for example here i’ve dug a two block deep trench in the ground if i place a water bucket here All the water is going to flow towards that hole instead of flooding out to the side here and filling up the rest of this area and it’s only when i start to place other water sources around it that it decides to flow out and cover a wider area and even then It is preventing it from creating water sources in the corners because the priority of the water is to flow downhill once we fill in those two blocks again the water will not update either so it creates a really weird looking wall of water here because it’s still trying to flow down into that Space but if we update one of the water sources let’s say over here that should start to fill out the rest of the pond there we go and so the water can be refilled that way but a lot of the time when you see areas where water is still trying to Flow down into a single block like this for example and it can’t reform water sources on the surface a lot of the time you just need to fill in those underwater blocks and then just place a water source nearby to update all of the water sources in that area and as You can see they all just kind of flatten out i hope that makes a little bit of sense and i didn’t want to dedicate an entire episode to water physics but it seemed to make sense with the ocean monument raid and everything else i’m going to enjoy using sponges in this Series i think we can do some pretty cool builds and farms just by drying out areas of the river or the ocean and it’s always helpful to have a few sponges around not to mention they’re actually a fairly cool building block but i think that’s where we’re going to wrap things up For today so folks thank you so much for watching this episode of the hardcore survival guide i do hope you enjoyed the ocean monument raid my name has been pixel riffs
