Pixlriffs – Skyblock Hostile Mob Spawner! ▫ Minecraft 1.15 Skyblock (Tutorial Let’s Play) [Part 2]

Hello everyone my name is pixel riffs and welcome back to the minecraft Skyblock interlude I’m not quite sure what to call this I don’t know if I can really call it the skyblock survival guide at this point but here we are it’s day two or well I guess probably not in

Terms of Minecraft terms but anyway there have been some developments in the nights we have a few trees spawning here which is great we will get ourselves a little bit of extra wood from this and today we are probably going to make a start on a hostile mob spawning a

Platform we’re going to be doing this before a passive mob spawning platform for a couple of reasons the circumstances in which you can spawn passive mobs are actually a little bit more complicated they need grass to spawn on for one thing and we can actually set up some really efficient

Passive mobs spawning if we go all the way to the bottom of the world imagine like the Enderman farm we built in the Minecraft Survival Guide because this is Java edition minecraft mob spawning is calculated kind of from the bottom of the world upwards and if you just have

Some blocks down there with no other blocks above them then it’s going to spawn animals down there really fast however that of course relies on us getting grass down to y equals 1 in the in the void and that’s actually much more easily said than done if you

Consider that every time we break a grass block here on the surface it reverts to dirt because of course we don’t have silk touch or anything it’s gonna be very very difficult to get ourselves a decent amount of grass down there at y equals 1 that’s going to take

A lot of stair casing with dirt and a lot of patience and right now I’m more interested in getting a hostile mob spawner up and running so that we can get things like bones to grow crops faster with bone meal and occasionally we’ll be able to get some other drops

That will be of major benefit to us think of the rare drops that you get from manually killing zombies for example stuff like you know iron ingots and carrots and potatoes that stuff that will provide a much better food source for us as a player it’s essential for

Breeding some animals like pigs we didn’t start with any carrots or anything here we only started with a bit of grass that we could grow for wheat seeds of course and this needs to stop being on fire none of these blocks can burn why you on fire anyway we have

Ourselves a few more saplings that I can put in the chest now we’ve got some charcoal that we can turn into torches because we will need to make a platform pretty low down in the world and you might think that we would want a platform down at y equals one for

Hostile mobs to spawn as well but that’s actually going to be too difficult to control especially when we have such rudimentary resources at our disposal we only have one water source right now we don’t have the ability to make any dispensers so we can’t control where

Those mobs go we don’t really have the means to damage them in a passive way that would make them a little bit softer for a one-punch kill we don’t have enough armor to take them on head-on right now and the tools even though stone axes do a decent amount of attack

Damage are still not all that sophisticated so instead we need to play this a little bit smart and the way we’re gonna do that is with one resource that has been placed in this chest for us turtle eggs undead mobs will actually pass fine towards turtle eggs with the

Intent to stomp up and down on them until they break it’s one of the things that’s been programmed into mobs since 1.13 when turtle eggs were first introduced and all our sugarcane is grown fantastic I’ll harvest a little bit of that and then immediately fall into the cobblestone generator luckily I

Didn’t fall into the lava site but yeah if we have those turtle eggs down there those are going to be attractive to mobs like skeletons and zombies and they are going to try and path fine towards them and we can use the trick that we’ve used many times before in the Minecraft

Survival Guide where we force them into pathfinding over trapdoors which drops them down into an area where they can take full damage so ideally what we want to do is build a platform as low down in the void as we can so we still get a

Decent amount of spawn rate from a box that we are going to build 24 blocks above that so that the mobs falling from it will take 323 blocks of full damage and will just be a one-hit kill after that from there of course we can kill them manually and that would be ideal

Because that’s going to get us the most amount of the rare drops the iron ingots the carrots the potatoes and even bones from the skeletons and hopefully some string from spiders although spiders don’t exhibit the same turtle egg stomping behavior so for that I’m going to need a whole heap of cobblestone but

First we are going to make ourselves a nice easy ladder down 2y equals one in the void and for that we are going to borrow the lava source and the water source again and we’re going to use those to create a column kind of similar to how we did in

The Enderman farm when we built that in the Minecraft Survival Guide series I’m gonna start by placing the bucket of lava against this block here like so and eventually you will see it fan out to either side like that that is what we want to see and we want to wait for the

Lava to get all the way down to the bottom of the world in a single column this is going to be a bit of a waiting game because lava does fall incredibly slowly and we can’t really zoom in on it right now because I do not have Optifine

With this instance where in Minecraft 115 0.1 and at the time of this recording at least Optifine has not come out yet so I am going to have to wait for that to fall all the way down we’re just gonna you know wait a couple of minutes maybe harvest a little bit more

Cobblestone in the meantime and then we’re going to pick up the bucket of water we’re going to be placing that adjacent to the one of the wings of the lava there so it does not destroy the lava source but it creates a column of cobblestone all the way down and this

Sugarcane is about to pop off in a second because I’ve just removed the water source that was allowing it to remain there for now I am gonna stick some of the valuable stuff in the chest but we are going to need to make a couple of things down at the bottom of

The world we’re going to need to make a little platform out of cobblestone after we have a full column of cobblestone leading down we’re going to need some ladders to go on the side of that we’re going to need some torches because we will need to light up the area down

There especially if it is below the island just to make sure no hostile mobs spawn down there and ruin our chances of building anything down there one thing I can do to zoom in on this lava fall is up my fov or I guess decrease my fov to

30 and see if that doesn’t look like it’s moving any more to me so I have a feeling that has probably reached the bottom of the world that’s basically the only way you can zoom in in vanilla minecraft is by changing your fov like that anyway I think now whoa okay that

Tree just decided to spawn in my face thank you very much tree I appreciate you let’s see if we can place the lava with the water source next to the lava here there we go okay that has not affected the main lava source which we can now remove from this situation

Because the water is going to fall much faster than the lava we can replace the lava in this spot here and hopefully the water will now have created a column of cobblestone reaching all the way down to the bottom of the world and I think that has happened pretty fast so that is

Very very good news I’m gonna leave the bucket in here though and leave that sapling in there as well I’m gonna take a few blocks of cobblestone and a torch because this is potentially the most nerve-wracking part of this whole journey or Wow even more trees are

Growing great stuff yeah we are going to have to come down here there goes the sugarcane let’s put that in the chest in case it D spawns we’re going to have to come down here riding this water stream the entire way down and then place a

Book at the bottom of that to make sure that we have a platform started and then we can put ladders all the way up here and we can remove the water source from the top there put it back in the cobblestone generator and continue using

It that way but for now we are gonna have to make a trip downwards into the void riding the water stream as we go and maybe stick your head out of the water stream slightly to one side just be very very careful you don’t tip yourself out into the void let’s turn on

Those coordinates to see where we are at the lava stream is slowly disappearing next to it and we are hitting the 40’s right now you can Crouch of course to make this go a little bit faster but make sure you can hold the jump key if

You need to rise up a little bit more and I think we should be safe to get down to y equals 1 yeah as soon as that block comes into view we are going to place one of these blocks here and yet there we go we have a block placed at y

Equals 1 we can build out the platform a little bit here as well and oh ok I’m getting pushed off the side but I’m holding shift for dear life at this point right we now have a platform at y equals 1 and I can make my way back up

At this water stream there we go mission accomplished a mission one at least very much accomplished and this cobblestone pillar here is going to provide a place for us to place ladders that’s going to be ideal to have something that we can go up and down permanently without having to use this

Water source once again it is worth keeping in mind that the water source here is the only one we have right now and the only way we’re going to be able to get another one is to go out to one of the other islands that has one so

It’s probably best that we make sure we are very very careful with our use of the water source right now and replace it when we need to I think we have enough words to make enough ladders right now that we could potentially put the ladders in right

This second I am gonna chop down these trees over here just in case I need a little bit more and so I can replant some more trees to keep our wood production going nice and quickly it’s always great when these trees generate in patterns that have slightly more

Leaves or even if you get one of the super large oak trees that’s always a huge advantage in Skyblock because that’s going to allow you to get a ton more saplings you can expand your tree farm that way you can just keep the saplings in reserve if you need them any

More leaves than you would get in the average tree is considered a windfall and look at this right now we have all we got an apple there as well great stuff we have seven saplings from just these two trees and the Sun is going down I’m a little bit worried about

Phantoms coming out at this point so I think I’m probably going to duck underneath the cobblestone generator archway there once again and probably get a little bit more cobblestone overnight because I think at this point we’re going to need all the cobblestone we can get to build this mob spawning

Platform so I’m going to grab the water source out of here we’re going to replace that in the cobblestone generator for now and I will be back with you once the night has ended and I’ve harvested a whole bunch more cobblestone okay the moon is going down the Sun is

Coming up it is latter time and I need to take that water source back because we are not gonna be able to do this without that placing ladders from the top down is not advisable guys but look at this one of our melons has grown incredible stuff I’m gonna grab that

From the top down hopefully yep okay we’d only we wouldn’t have trampled that either way cuz it reverted back into dirt when the melon grew their six melon slices of course we can turn those into seeds as well if we want to let’s turn a couple of them intercedes for now but we

Have ourselves a couple of fruit snacks that’s exciting I’m very glad that we have those because we are going to need them if we end up dealing with any hostile mobs which hopefully we shouldn’t but you never know guys so let’s grab some sticks and some charcoal to make some torches let’s

Keep some of the charcoal back though of course because we will need that to make more charcoal efficiently we should never really use any other kind of fuel source again at this point until we can potentially get blaze rods or something like that further down the line but

That’s a long way off we’ll deal with that a little bit later for now though we need the bucket of water to be placed I’m gonna say one block over again from this cobblestone column here so maybe like there yes because then we don’t have to worry too much about you know

Potentially deleting the water source although I think ladders can be waterlogged now but I don’t trust it so I’m gonna hop down here and we’re going to place a ladder one block at a time down here but that’s going to keep us out of the water as we go down here whoa

Okay it gets a little bit rocky here and there but no worries we should be able to handle this nicely yeah there you go you get into a rhythm falling down on top of the water placing the ladders as you go that’s the ticket I’ve got 60

Ladders that I crafted out of the wood that we had farmed from the tree farm already and that should be enough to get us to the bottom here we started at around y61 on that island up there the actual island spawns you out why 64 but

We’ve gone down a few blocks are placing that cobblestone platform underneath it especially so this should be enough to get us all the way down to y equals one at the bottom of the world and the end is in sight we just have a few more

Ladders to place and I think we have the right amount there we go fantastic we have ladders all the way down to the void and from here we can start building out an area around this platform of course we’re gonna try our best not to build underneath the island because that’s

Going to lower spawn rates because there are higher blocks up there but also yeah we want to build outwards a little bit so that we can have a nice spot to afk a little way away from the farm and have it generate mobs for us now we can come

Back up here we can take the water source and put it back in the cobblestone generator and this ladder is going to be our ticket to and from the bottom of the world for the foreseeable future there we go let’s pick that back up let’s put that back in the

Cobblestone farm and I guess we’ll probably build out this platform around the circumference of this ladder here to give ourselves guide rails to make sure that I don’t just like throw myself off the ladder and down here because that could be an irretrievably bad situation especially since I still have the bucket

On me let’s put the bucket here in the chest right this is where the real technical stuff starts to happen and we could use some slabs at the bottom of the world here to make sure that we are working with a spawn proof area so I’m

Going to grab a bunch of those as well we’re also gonna be using slabs in the production of the mob farm itself but only when we are ready to place the turtle eggs and kick this farm off are we going to take those down with us because once again those are

Non-renewable until we can hatch more Turtles which will need sand for because turtle eggs only hatch when they are placed on sand we are gonna need a couple of trap doors for this farm design of course so I’m going to turn a bunch of this wood into trap doors I

Guess we will need I’m gonna go with six that seems like a safe bet a nice wide area for the mobs to fall down and yeah I think we’ll keep the rest of the wood in here for now and just take the cobblestone down here with us we’re

Actually gonna need quite a large amount of cobblestone believe it or not so I think I will take as much of it as I dare to I think roughly five stacks will probably be okay I think I think that should be alright I mean we can always

Farm some more it’d be a bit of a setback if we lost a bunch of this in the void or anything and we will definitely need to bring a pickaxe with us so we’ve got this beat-up stone pickaxe we will use that I could bring the axe with me just in case we

Encounter any hostiles but I’m going to bank on the fact that we probably won’t while we are down there we’ll have to be very meticulous about lighting stuff up alright let’s head down the ladder and let’s get to building ourselves a mob spawning platform alright here we are at the

Bottom of the world that we need to get off the ladder because the ladder will drift us ever so slightly but now we can pop down a few blocks down here all we really need to do is get out from underneath the shadow of the island up

Here so I’m gonna come out a few blocks and because this spawning box is going to be 23 blocks in the sky because that’s the amount of full damage mobs will take to be at one hit at least in the case of zombies and skeletons the main things we’re gonna be focusing on

Here we do not need to worry about it being 23 blocks away horizontally because it’s going to be twenty three blocks away vertically anyway so wherever we afk down here at the bottom of the world we are going to find ourselves with an adequate amount of

Mobs spawning in the sky I’m gonna place some torches down here though to make sure this platform stays lit up because the last thing we want is to have some hostile mobs spawning down here and we could always put some slabs down here if we wanted to to make sure that this is

Going to be totally safe and spawn proof we do need to think about exactly where the mobs are gonna be falling though I think we are going to stand here to attack the mobs and we want them to be falling on a platform about there we’ll

Swipe at their feet and they’ll have a very limited window in which they can see us just in case any creepers happen to pass find over the trapdoors and fall down here they will probably take enough full damage that they’ll be a one-hit kill as well but we do not want them to

Accidentally explode damage the farm and potentially hurt us or worse yet throw us off into the void when we’ve got a ton of useful mob drops down here so what we’re gonna do is build up a little kind of case around the outside of this that’s going to mean they can only see

Us through a slabs worth of material here we’re going to basically set up a block there we can take this one out and this is the range at which we’ll be hitting them it’s gonna be very very small I’m gonna use these to hop over

The top of here though we need to widen this out to probably two blocks deep at the most because once we are down there that’s going to be yeah it’s gonna be roughly the range that we want to be able to hit them at we’ve got six

Trapdoors that we’re going to be placing at the top of this kind of shoot that we’re gonna be building here to make sure that they all fall down into a very specific space and at the top here yeah we’re gonna have a six block opening a 2×3 opening so

That’s really the dimensions we want to be working with here and so from this height here we really want to be counting upwards how many blocks we’ve got to make sure it is at least 23 blocks from the area they’re going to be falling on to in fact exactly 23 blocks

Would be ideal so let’s actually move a few of these blocks out of this stack and just use this snack to count upwards however many blocks we need we’re going to go 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 20 21 22 23 there we go and this is where we’re gonna

Start building the majority of our mob farm of course we are going to need to get back down again and build the rest of this tube up but we will do that in a minute we’re going to start out by building a little framework around here

And making sure the gap in the middle is a 2 by 3 and we’re gonna fill this in with our oak trapdoors opening those up like that and opening these up like that and in fact we need to make sure that this area over here is out of range of

Some of the mobs and we also need to make sure that this section here is 3 blocks high because the mobs will need a little bit of space to believe that they could jump up and down on top of the turtle eggs we’re also going to need to

Make sure that this area where the turtle eggs are going to be placed is lit up adequately so that mobs will not spawn over here and we need to make sure that they cannot paths find over the sides of the trap doors here so we’re actually going to block off this area

Here otherwise they’d be able to move diagonally let’s jump up and down on top of the turtle eggs we lose the turtle eggs for good right so now we’re going to be blocking the rest of this off like so in fact it might make more sense to

Do that over here because we have less space over there for mobs to spawn before we hit the ladder so yeah reverse what we’re doing right now actually so the turtle eggs are going to be in this enclosure at the back here and the

Rest of this area is going to be a large open room completely enclosed from the sky to make sure that there is no skylight affecting mob spawns and it won’t have any torches in it except in this area over here where actually we should probably place the torches as

Close to the back of the room as we can and probably a little bit off the ground to make sure it’s not affecting blocks closed over here but we’ll still light up this area to make sure no zombies or skeletons spawn right next to the turtle

Eggs that would be able to jump up and down and stomp them at the risk of spawning some phantoms I am gonna try and step out here and place a little bit more of this platform while I still can of course we need to make sure that this

Whole thing is well lit up so I’m gonna try and place the torch in the middle here and we’re going to make a relatively small room because this thing is still going to spawn mobs pretty efficiently considering it will be the only spawn of all space for you know the

Entire map basically all of the stuff on the sky Block Island in the sky is going to be well lit up enough that we will not have to worry about mobs spawning up there at all and we’re only gonna have to worry about them spawning in this box

Where they should just be taken care of nice and easily so right now this is a five by six platform we can probably extend it out a couple more blocks in this direction but we don’t really need much more space than that the most important thing is that it’s going to be

Totally dark inside of here and for that we’re gonna need to have a two block high ceiling over the top of the entire thing and we’ll probably make it like I said three blocks high above here so that the mobs think they can path fine

To the turtle eggs but yeah I feel a lot more comfortable with a ceiling above my head knowing that phantoms can potentially spawn right in how can I leave this torch one block further into the middle of the room to make sure it is lighting the space adequately yeah we

Only have a nine-block light there over on this side we have eleven and twelve block light there that should be fine I think once we take this torch out it’s actually going to be yes seven block light only a little bit of eight block light here from the torches on the

Opposite side that’s going to be perfect for our needs it should spawn stuff at basically anywhere inside of this box okay I can feel a little bit more confident about no phantom interference now that we have a solid roof above our heads we can fill in this back wall here

And this is going to be our spawning space what do we in terms of block light right now it looks like we’re perfectly fine we don’t have anything spawning in here right now and now I guess I’ll need to pop down here just so I can build up all of the

Four walls of the tube that we’re gonna be collecting the mobs into but all-in-all this should work out pretty well once we place the turtle eggs over there they’ll just be able to pass fine straight over these trap doors and should hopefully fall to their deaths or close enough anyway close enough to

Their deaths that we’ll be able to punch them and deliver a one-hit kill and with the rest of the cobblestone I brought down with me and we will need to go back and get a little bit more by the looks of things we’re just gonna build up the

Rest of this tube I’ll probably bring back some ladders that will allow me to get up here and finish off the rest of this I am slightly worried about the light level here because we don’t have any torches I can bring with me oh well I guess we’ll just have to deal with

That and maybe wait for it to become daytime but yeah you’re really gonna have to get used to the texture of cobblestone if you want to play a lot of Skype Locker because it’s gonna take a long time to turn stone into anything else it’s also gonna take a lot of

Infrastructure the tree farm at the you know smelting the trees into charcoal and so forth is gonna take a fair while so it is probably best that you get used to the texture of cobblestone before you get used to any other blocks I’ve also just noticed that we have finally

Managed to break into that hunger bar a little bit the saturation that you get from starting a world getting full saturation at the beginning does seem to have worn off a little bit and so I am gonna dip into my food supply here grab myself a couple of melon slices and chow

Down it seems like the next logical step at this point just to start making sure that my hunger stays full we have a little bit more cobblestone that we can use and let’s craft a few ladders out of these sticks and wood I have available to me obviously you can see that the

Trees have grown over there so it shouldn’t be too bad to use some of this wood for ladders you’re gonna need them a lot if you’re gonna get up and down in Skyblock anyway let’s – out here take down these and other trees while we can

Make sure they get replanted so we can harvest even more wood and I think we probably want to expand the tree farm a little bit more in a minute anyway right now though I’m just saving all of the cobblestone I can for using in this mod

Farm I might bring a few more torches down with as well that seems like a sensible thing to do seeing as we just ran out and we really need them to make sure that mobs don’t spawn down there while we are doing other things and still building up

The farm all right 24 ladders will be fine to get us started and I think that will be good for the moment I might just make myself another stone pickaxe really fast just in case we need one of those I might keep it up here for now though and

Only use that if we really need to another Apple fantastic and the Sun is starting to come up over there which means we should hopefully be able to deal with any hostile mobs that have spawned on the lip of that yet okay yep they are spawning on top of the mob farm

That is why we need the torches I also can’t help but notice that the wheat here has grown to full maturity so let’s harvest that we got four seeds back incredible that is the best that could possibly have gone and hopefully we’ll be able to expand our little wheat farm

Here as well okay I’m hoping that that creeper and spider will despawn okay the creeper is gone that was really all we needed I need to check underneath the farm to make sure that we don’t have anything spawning under there either but we have a bunch of materials on me it

Would be a shame to lose any of them but for now I need to make sure there are no skeletons there is one zombie so far okay that’s manageable I think as long as is he got a path fine towards me if he spots me is he going to path line

Towards me or is he just unable to reach me at this point I think he is let’s see if we can make our way out to him you can place blocks adjacent to the ladder like that and that will probably allow us to sneak over here and use the range

We have to attack him with the X manna which had some more trap doors or something on me right now I think he’s having a little bit of trouble path finding right now but if I step over there I have a feeling that’s really gonna kick in for him I think my only

Possible strategy here is going to be to rush him and try and use knock-back to force him off the back of the platform and into the void let’s see if that works yes okay we got him great stuff that went better than I expected believe me

Okay so now I think our play is building up these walls a little bit further making sure that we have ladder access to the inside of the spawner with 24 ladders we should be perfectly fine to go all the way up the center of the spawner and then

We’re gonna be able to deliver the turtle eggs remove the ladders on the way back down and just let the farm do its thing man I really didn’t have as much cobblestone as I thought I did though and now I am resorting to placing all of these slabs to connect these

Walls and I think we might not quite have enough slabs but it’ll be enough to get us started for now yeah at least we’ll be able to run a ladder up at the side of here and that should be enough to get us in and out of the spawner I’m

Gonna place a torch in here for the moment and probably down at the bottom here as well although what’s that a slab or is that a full block whoa okay yep did not mean to take that much full damage and it turned out it was a full

Block well good to know that full damage exists and that still works because that’s the mechanic we’re gonna be relying on to kill a lot of these mobs and now we can hop all the way up here into the farm and check yes once again there are no mobs spawning in here quite

Yet there is still that spider on the roof but it doesn’t seem like it’s gonna be causing any trouble for me next up we can remove these blocks here which is going to take a frightfully long time because I’m standing on a ladder but there’s really no other way to do it and

I guess we’ll need to grind a little bit more cobblestone so we can finish this off it’s gonna take a lot of cobblestone to build these things and you might want to farm a little bit of wood if you want a bit of material variety but really

Cobblestone will be all you need and look another melon has grown great stuff let me harvest that we got three slices that time not quite as many as we did originally but at least enough to repair a little bit of the health that I lost falling down off of that that

Cobblestone platform well folks back to the grind I guess I’m gonna grab a little bit more cobblestone we’ll be able to finish off the mob spawner today and hopefully that should allow us to start harvesting some of these mobs okay we have another stack of cobblestone and

Believe me a stack of cobblestone takes a little while when this is how you have to get it anyway I’m gonna eat another Apple because my hunger is going down a little bit we have another tree to take down but I think we can go ahead and

Finish off the spawner and that’s gonna mean placing the turtle eggs in which is very exciting and a little bit nerve-wracking at the same time I really do not want this to go badly and it’s going to be yeah a little bit of a nerve-racking experience doing this in

The first place but I’m gonna grab actually I’m gonna grab a couple more torches from here so we can light up the top of the farm of course we could slab it over if we wanted to but I think lighting it up is going to be a little bit cheaper just need to

Place a couple of blocks along the side here so I can get off onto there and then let’s place a torch there it should cover most of it a torch over here which should cover the rest I think that’ll be fine let me just quickly check light levels around the edges

Maybe we’ll need one back here all right yeah let’s place them on the sides just to be totally safe we really don’t want anything spawning on the top here all right that torch she’s gonna have to go for a start and then we can start filling in some of these blocks here as

Long as I’m not wavering up and down on this ladder and yeah we can take out some of the slabs that I’ve placed around the sides here so that we can fit these blocks in all right this thing is completely closed in let’s hop up to the

Top here get rid of this torch make sure that is all blocked up we should be good to go we can place a turtle egg I guess as close to the front of this platform as we can just so anything that spawns over here is going to have a greater

Chance to see it I’m fairly certain the visible range of turtle eggs should be nice and straightforward here let’s check the light levels we have seven we have eight block lights on these blocks to either side but we have a seven or lower basically everywhere else and no

Skylight inside the farm which is very good news now I’ll take the axe I guess we didn’t need both of the turtle eggs it’s probably gonna make sense if we just have one we could probably plant more than one if you wanted to guarantee the mobs would Zone in on them a little

Bit faster but I think that should be all we need and now if I head down here and quickly make my exit from the spawner we should start to see those mobs arriving in the drop zone here oh we have a creeper and that’s not what I

Expected but a creeper is here and it should have taken enough damage that we can yes there we go got the fake cave advancement for setting up a mob spawner amazing stuff we have taken our first steps into Skyblock history and I was hoping for a few more mobs than this so hopefully

We’ll get a few more dropping down here there we go we’ve got a zombie amazing we got our first rotten flesh and gunpowder and hopefully before long we should find some skeletons in here as well skeletons are really gonna be the main event for me here because skeletons

Are gonna drop bones bones needs bone meal and meal means growing a little bit more tall grass getting some more wheat seeds being able to grow crops a little bit faster it’s really going to be a lot better if we can do that the spawn rates

In here are going to be a little bit unfortunate they’re gonna be a little bit sad for the wild because of course we’re not building this in the most efficient spawning zone but we simply don’t have the resources to handle something in the most efficient spawning

Zone at least not right now there we go we’ve got our first skeleton it’s even wearing some chain armor and oh it didn’t drop the armor but it dropped two bones amazing alright and it’s got some arrows at the back there that I can’t quite reach but it’s fine if we skip a

Couple of mob drops here and there that’s not a big deal as long as we’ve got the bones we’ve got gunpowder and rotten flesh I am happy with that and after just a few short minutes of afk this farm has actually proved pretty good I think this is working pretty well

With a few short hits of the axe maybe even a stone sword down here just so we can use the sweep attack we have ourselves yes our first iron ingots we have a few extra mob drops and the fun thing about zombies in this Skyblock pack is they

Will drop gravel because gravel is one of the blocks that you cannot get outside of survival minecraft with traditional terrain and so forth it’s not a renewable resource and nothing in the world really drops it so with gravel we can do some really quite interesting stuff including ultimately making stuff

Like concrete and so forth and I think one of the things we’re gonna do before we wrap up today’s episode is not make some concrete but is make some more dirt for our platform because believe it or not once you have gravel you will be able to make dirt and it’s it’s really

Quite interesting how this works now this was a mechanic that really wasn’t available in the early days of Skyblock and now it is and that’s gonna make our lives so much easier and it’s really why I wanted to set up a hostile mob spawner first if you look in the advancements

Here you can see that the collector advancement tells you that zombies in this map drop gravel it also tells you that husks will drop sand so you can get a stack of sand as well and if you hoe coarse dirt you get yourself dirt and you can make coarse dirt using – dirt

And – gravel and you get four dirt back so that is what we’re about to go do these bones are hovering tantalizingly close but so far out of reach and I’ve got four bones already which I think should be more than enough for proof of concept that this farm

Works okay I have actually been in there with my camera account and it turns out that skeletons do not pass fine towards turtle eggs which I thought they did so that is an oversight on my part however it seems like zombies will naturally pass fine towards the turtle eggs and

Will either push the skeletons into the hole all the skeletons see the trap doors as blocks that they can pass find over and they’ll not naturally kind of walk in there of their own accord so it turns out that’s not such a bad system after all even though skeletons don’t

Really exhibit the behavior that I thought they did but let’s put that turtle egg back in there let’s plant this tree over here and hopefully we’ll be able to figure out a way of getting spider stirring as well if not wool because I will definitely need to get

Myself a bed soon I am tired of hiding from phantoms but before we do anything else let’s make ourselves some dirt I’m gonna need one more dirt from the island for this and I’ll grab one here we can turn that and two gravel into coarse dirt and then once we place the coarse

Dirt down in the world and we hoe it like so it reverts back into regular dirt so that consumes the gravel but it gives us more dirt and now dirt is a renewable resource in our Skyblock world which is fantastic and probably not what you expected when we started building a

Hostile mob farm today but renewable dirt means we can do a whole lot with this world now and we don’t have to worry too much about preserving the dirt we have here on the island as long as we have two dirts we can make more but that
