POTION BREWING BASICS! | The Minecraft Guide – Tutorial Lets Play (Ep. 15)

Elites the cats are watching that’s all i can say we can’t talk about it here but the cats are watching welcome back to the minecraft guide everybody it’s me your boy waddles episode number 15. so in between episodes i’ve done some sleeping some hard grinding out sleeping check this right

Here we have a rabbit’s foot and a rabbit hide now from of course these two wonderful beings right there they brought me those two things which is great but they haven’t brought me the one thing that i needed today which is phantom membrane so uh during today’s episode we’re gonna

Have to go ahead and let these cats wander around a little bit and do the sleeping thing now what does this house need this house could definitely use a clock let’s go ahead and throw a clock in here now we’ll be able to tell when it’s daytime and when it’s nighttime just in

Case i couldn’t see out of all of the windows you know and uh also i put this wither skeleton skull right there secret closet chest right there too now today’s episode is going to be all about potion making but first in between episodes i did a little bit of work it’s

A very very little bit of work but i added a path our path now connects to the farm all the way over to kind of like the mine area we need to do something with that then pass this little pen not my favorite spot for a pen but a pen

Then over here to the cow farm my plan is to eventually have this road go this way and go over to what we’re gonna add today that’ll be right back there and then over to the zombie grinder that’ll probably be just about it for this little starter area though

For the most part i feel like this area is really starting to feel complete it’s starting to feel like a solid base oh and i did have a b signing bees do live in that hive that’s amazing i was really really happy i’ve also added an outdoor bench to this

Area now uh today’s episode is all about potions to take on the dragon we’re gonna want to prepare ourselves a couple potions now potions definitely aren’t necessary for the ender dragon fight in all honesty the ender dragon fight it’s not that bad you could take it on without potions easily but

Potions will 100 percent make your life a lot more enjoyable a lot more easy less stressful if you bring them with you into the idea dragon fight now there are three big components to every single potion component number one the actual place where you make the potion

The brewing stand a brewing stand is very cheap to make if of course you have blaze rods before you think about potions you’re going to need to find another fortress now we did that a couple episodes back so we’re kind of set in that department we’re

Good we have a lot of blaze rods but that’s not the only thing that you’re probably going to want to make when making potions this thing is technically not 100 needed though it’s definitely optional a cauldron we’ll be using the cauldron to fill our water bottles that we’ll need

To fill to make potions and then thing number three pretty simple pretty straightforward this thing is definitely required we are going to need to make some glass bottles to make potions glass bottles right here boom a little bit of glass now i think we’re going to go ahead and make maybe 12

12 should probably be good that’ll be way more than enough by i think maybe if we need to make more not a big deal lots of extra sand tiny bit of extra glass so to brew potions first you’re gonna need a brewing stand and you’re gonna need glass bottles uh

Cauldron is probably a pretty good idea too but you don’t necessarily need it now to make almost every single potion in minecraft except for one you’re going to need of course the nether plant netherward netherward is a gigantic potion brewing ingredient so we’re actually going to need that today and we’re actually

While we’re messing with this stuff going to make like a small planter box for it i think it’ll be pretty cool but of course another word isn’t all we’re also going to need the things that we need to make each potion there are many of those things in

Today’s episode we’ll be making a handful of potions my goal a potion of night vision potion of strength and then hopefully the potion of slow falling as well now for the slow falling potion we’re gonna need phantom membrane so that’ll be the last one that we make

For the strength one blaze powder and for the night vision one a golden carrot those are actually all things that we have or could have very very easily but there are also other things that you can add into potion making yeah there’s kind of a lot to take in

Here so anyways first things first let’s set up a potion brewing area where should this potion brewing area be well i was thinking the potion brewing is probably uh it’s probably not entirely legal so what we’re going to do is we’re going to go ahead and put it right back here

Behind the house nobody would suspect a thing very very top secret back here again nobody would suspect a thing now i want to make this potion set up pretty like simple early game like a basic one we’re not going to go all out here but

I do need some things i’d like to put my brewing stand on a smooth stone block i think that would look really really clean so first things first i’m going to need to start by making a couple furnaces which we’ll probably just leave back here they kind of fit the vibe anyways

And then we need to smelt stone into the smooth stone this definitely isn’t a 100 necessary step but it’ll be worth it it’ll make this area come alive so let’s go ahead and leave our furnaces right there and then maybe we put the cauldron right there on the end of the furnaces

Or back no no no no let’s go even better here we’ll put the cauldron in the middle the furnace is on the end boom look at how good that looks now the cauldron the cauldron is a block that has been in minecraft for a long long time

On java edition you can put water inside of the cauldron that’s it on better architection you can also put lava inside of the culture and it’s pretty cool a lava cauldron also shouldn’t spread fire now also on bedrock edition you can dye the water inside of the cauldron with dye

That doesn’t work like that on java edition unfortunately on both bedrock edition and on java edition the cauldron is also a workstation block the leather worker villager works at the cauldron we saw that boy in the last episode did you see the last episode so we’ve dropped our cauldron down and

We put some water inside of the cauldron what’s next well next up you’re gonna need your glass bottles the glass bottles need to have water inside of them to be used to make potions now every cauldron can hold enough water for three water bottles or basically one potion run

After using three water bottles on your cauldron your cauldron is going to run out of water which means you’re gonna need to find more water and put it back in the cauldron that works and all but it’s kind of tedious maybe a better way to do this is

By just going straight to the water itself so check this out we have water bottles right here nine of them if we use one on just a random water block boom now we have eight right here and four filled ones you can fill glass bottles in any water

You don’t necessarily need the cauldron now i’m only going to show this once in today’s episode but it’s nighttime every single time at night i’m gonna let my cats move around a little bit and i’m gonna go ahead and sleep the cat should come over to me sleep with me

And then bring me nice presents in the morning so somebody here bring me a phantom membrane maybe you secret agent phantom membrane hey yeah yeah nothing nothing this morning okay well that happens sometimes too that’s fine not acceptable but fine both of you will sit out here in the day

In the hot sun and think about what you’ve done so you already know who it is you know exactly what we’re going to do we’re going to make this potion brewing area the best looking cleanest potion brewing area ever so we’re going to switch it up we

Have a furnace a stone block a cauldron right there then we have this thing set up over here now on the other side we’re going to replicate that we’re going to go ahead and build that thing again but this time that thing is gonna have soul sand blacks inside of them

You see again to brew almost every single potion of minecraft you’re gonna need nether wart all right so we’ve got this whole stand over here we’ll go ahead and plant some netherward on it it’s not the best netherwart farm but it’s another road farm it’s a little bit of another word renewable netherworm

That’s good so now it’s potion time let’s go ahead and grab our brewing sand and place it down oh yeah by the way inside of here we’re gonna put water totally almost forgot about that boom renewable water right there for our glass bottles so we have a brewing stand placed down

After we place our burning stand down we’re going to want to grab water bottles and put them inside of the brewing stand this is the burning sand ui right here now over here is our fuel slot if the brewing stand were a furnace you could think of it as this slot right here

Now what is the fuel for a brewing stand well the burning stand gives you a big hint take a look at this picture right there that picture coincidentally lines up perfectly with blaze powder blaze powder is the brewing stand fuel so now we’re ready to go as soon as i put something

In here we’re going to start making a potion now the base to almost every single potion in minecraft is again another word other than a potion of weakness but we’re not worried about the potion of weakness today so that means first things first we’re going to put another word in this top

Slot right here now technically we could put one water bottle in here if we wanted to we could just leave one right there and brew one potion at a time but that would be a waste of ingredients you see it won’t cost us any more ingredients to put

Extra water bottles inside of here and brew three potions at once so basically always make three potions anyways first things first netherward put it in there and then boom and things start happening now this right here is the loading bar this is going to eventually fill up all the way

And wait for it boom it fills up all the way and then we can grab our awkward potions now as you can see right here awkward potion no effects this right here is basically a base potion we essentially got these water bottles ready to be turned into actual potions

Now uh the first potion that we’re gonna make is actually going to be a potion of strength the ingredient for a potion of strength is blaze potter how do i know this well i i looked it up there’s this really handy chart boom this thing right

Here i got it from the minecraft wiki big shout out minecraftwiki this chart has all of the potion ingredients recipes everything that you need to know right here i think it’s kind of weird honestly that there’s no potion brewing book in the game we have the crafting book the furnace book

But none for the brewing stand anyways boom our strength potions are finished now right now this is a potion of strength that will last to three minutes in duration so now we have a couple choices right now we have three potions of strength we could stop here we could

Take these potions with strength and go use them for whatever we needed to use them for just drink them take the three minute long effect or we could spice these up a little bit now right here with a potion of strength we have two options we can either

Make this a potion of strength two so we get a little bit stronger or we can turn this three minutes into an eight minutes in this potion’s case if we want to make this potion last a little bit longer redstone is the way to go or if we

Wanted to make this a potion of strength two so we’re a lot stronger but the duration is shorter we could use glowstone now i personally like the idea of making this potion last a whole lot longer so we’ll go ahead and throw a piece of redstone dust right in there

Now if we wanted to make splash potions we would need a gunpowder what is the splash potion well the splash motion is a potion that you can throw on the ground or add something and give that thing or yourself if you walk into where it’s thrown that effect so basically if we didn’t

Want to have to drink the potion manually we could make these splash potions throw them on the ground and then boom we would have strength but here we go potion of strength one for eight minutes easy so here’s my trick for remembering what does what in terms of potion making

Gunpowder explosion explosion goes all over the place so gunpowder gives you a splash potion which goes all over the place glowstone it’s cool it’s the most rare out of the three things what’s also cool and rare a stronger effect i okay maybe it’s not the best memorization trick the resin one is even

Better redstone what does it give power red zone gives power which lasts a long time until you turn it off so uh what lasts a long time also potions of strength for eight minutes okay yeah it’s not the best trick but gunpowder splash potion glowstone dust stronger potion redstone dust

Longer potion pretty simple so now we can go ahead and take these three potions of strength and keep them in our inventory now uh it was night time the cats have failed me yet again they brought me string which was really disappointing so yeah i’m gonna have to continue waiting

On that potion of slope falling but it’s okay because we can make a different potion instead so let’s go ahead and put some water bottles in here and then of course first things first we’re gonna need another ward boom there we go awkward potions now this time we want

Potions of night vision so golden carrot it’s your time to shine for a potion of night vision we need the golden carrot potion of night vision boom done but the little problem they only last for three minutes i want to make that a little bit longer so easy

We put a piece of redstone dust in here and then wait a little bit more and after a little bit of time three potions of night vision the last for eight minutes these potions of night vision will help us see in dark places like the nether and the end

Now i’m not 100 sure if i’m gonna bring those to the end fight but it’s good to have them they’re useful potions now finally we want to prep our potions of slow falling but after the awkward potions we won’t be able to do anything so we’re actually going to switch gears

Entirely and get some work done around the base so we’re going to leave the base eventually eventually is now starting to get pretty close actually before we leave this base it needs to look good so that means i’d like to do some work that i’ve kind of been putting off for a while

I’d like to finish this path and make this area in here terraformed a little bit better i would also like to decorate this potion brewing area i’d like to make this potion brewing area kind of uh like messy thrown together so of course dirt sole soil i think that would be amazing back

Here then the path that’s pretty simple that’s just gonna stay path blocks so i think what i’m going to do is i’m going to go ahead and start with those projects kind of get those things done clear out a couple trees maybe move some of the flowers and then

Hopefully it’ll turn nighttime and i’ll get those phantom membranes those tasty tasty phantom membrane Hey hey elites it’s me i’m back um my day has been ruined literally ruined uh this trash has spawned on my lawn this thing right here this is the first time we’re seeing this boy this right here is the wandering hey green dye oh jungles well you know what i’m not

Interested this is the wandering traitor the wandering traitor is the best source of leads in the game watch this you take this boy out easy just like that two angry llamas not a big problem though the llamas don’t even they yeah the llamas they don’t mind we clean

The llamas up easily and boom we turned that wandering traitor into two leads and one piece of leather in my opinion that’s a pretty good trade one of the best trades in minecraft so uh good news really really good news but first the comment of the day

Today’s comment of the day is from jake g the comment is about twitch when will you stream on twitch again uh so yeah it’s obviously been a long minute since i’ve streamed on twitch why did i stop streaming well now when i stopped streaming i was

Kind of just busy with real life and then when i didn’t continue streaming i’ve just kind of been busy with content making making a video every single day takes a long time maybe some of you guessed that and yeah i basically just don’t have as much room in my schedule right now

At this point in life for extra streams but i miss it hugely streaming was so so fun and i’d love to go back to it at some point one day eventually because it’s fun it’s really cool to get to interact with you guys but uh good news good things have

Happened in between cuts so um i have this path in here now i went ahead and made the path a little bit more thick i think it looks better but it’s still messy so this is the starter house the vibe here is meant to be early game

Simple i’m not trying to like go crazy with the detailing make the fanciest road in the world or anything like that i want things to be very very yeah early game feel simple feel you know nice and uh yeah simple is a pretty good word for

It yep that’s what i’m going for so i continued the path all the way down this way again thickened it up a little bit i think it looks a little bit better here we have the cow farm and then if we keep going this way we have a

Split in the road so the path kind of ends right here for now eventually i’m gonna change that this path should probably go all the way over to the zombie part which actually isn’t that far at all it’ll be probably pretty easy to throw in definitely gonna

Keep the vibe again wait for it simple on the path and just kind of do this and then probably have light around it but speaking of light well first off mobs don’t spawn on these path blocks i believe uh but i have lots and lots of lanterns in here

That’s right goodbye torches the light levels should be just about and when i say just about i mean like literally just about perfect everywhere we shouldn’t have any spawns happening in here including this low area except uh this spot right here it does get a little dark right in here

So definitely have to come back in with another lantern and fix that one but then finally we have the star of today’s episode the brewing area the brewing area feels really really good this is exactly what i was envisioning sort of just this random little makeshift brewing area that’s just like quickly

Thrown together something like this we have the netherward over here we have water sources right there we have everything that we would need right here and a furnace because furnaces are nice and wait for it inside of this barrel we have oh phantom membrane you have no clue

How excited i was when i got this so uh in between cuts i slept twice phantom membrane is the rarest cat present by far and i got it i kid you not on the first night time that i slept i don’t know what the luck is in this world but literally

All sevens so it’s time for the most important dragonfly potion out of the potions that we’ve made today the potion of slow falling to brew a potion of slow falling you’ll need a phantom membrane phantom rembrane comes from phantoms or cats now that didn’t stay up for a long time

Of course so i didn’t see any phantoms i got really lucky got it from the cat throw it in the brewing stand and then we wait and it’s gonna slowly charge up now the potion of soul falling is amazing because it makes us fall slower you know when the dragon hits you and

Sends you up into the air well yeah that’s one of the most dangerous parts about the dragon fight if we fall slower then i’m sorry dragon but we basically got cheats you’re over so let’s go ahead and actually make these potions of slow falling last a little bit longer definitely so

One minute and a half not very good we throw some redstone in here though let this thing charge up and we’ll have potions of slow falling that lasts a whole lot longer which is 100 the move that i want to make a potion of slow falling for four minutes that is

Beautiful so for the dragon fight we have our potions of strength and our potions of slow falling maybe for the dragon fight but also just for anything we have a couple potions of night vision on deck 2. when it comes to potion making those are the basics another season i definitely

Plan on doing more with potion brewing especially once we get to our next base of the permanent base i’d like to have lots and lots of things to be able to make lots of good potions like for example tons of night vision potions for whenever we’re working in the nether i

Think that would be probably pretty useful pretty cool but those are the basics of potion brewing and that is episode 15 of the minecraft guide i feel that it’s definitely going to be stronghold hunting time very very soon until next time though at least stay fresh
