RTX 4080 – Minecraft Java Edition + Shaders (at 4K and 8K)

Hello guys Chris here and welcome back to another video in this one my friends I am gonna be testing the GeForce RTX 4080 in Minecraft Java Edition with the shaders at 4K and 8K resolutions this one is the founders Edition model of the card we are running it with the latest

NVIDIA drivers as usual and I’m not manually overclocking it you can see all of its specs right here in techforops gpu-z resizable bar is also enabled it has 16 gigs of gddr6x memory and over on the left preparing it with an i5 13600k at 5.6 gigahertz and I’m also using ddr5

32 gigabytes in dual Channel 6000 megahertz let’s get into it shall we also yes I I shaved I shouldn’t have shaved but I did that wasn’t mistake let’s go to the Minecraft launcher now I installed Iris and sodium as you can see right here version 1.19.4 and this is so

It runs a bit better because it gets more optimized when you install this and it also allows us to install the shaders and use them of course it’s like OptiFine but in my opinion it’s a little bit better let’s go over the settings I’m going to press shift p to get into

This menu which is a little bit better looking I guess we’re playing it at 4K resolution using 12 chunks of render distance I usually use 10 so maybe I’m gonna use 10 here okay just because we are testing a GPU so we don’t want a CPU bottle like you know and everything else

Is set to what I’d call High settings here after we play like this for a while I’ll also test all of these shaders basically so this will be fun let’s do this I’m gonna get inside of the stutter world of Doom because you know I started this world with gt705

Let’s continue our journey what the okay all right everything is fine that’s right we slept inside of here last night okay so the FPS that we’re seeing right now those 800 frames 700 600 those are good with you those are the FPS that the CPU can deliver not really the GPU well

The GPU of course he’s able to deliver those but much higher than that if we didn’t have a CPU bottleneck so um unfortunately it doesn’t really get much better than an i5 13600k at 5.6 gigahertz it performs around the same as God damn it why do we have a creeper

Around it performs around the same as the I9 at stock speed so hello roach how’s it going buddy is the creeper still around yes he is right there oh this is super sharp actually at 4K resolution oh hello roach again what the heck you’re multiplying yourself this is

Interesting the wonders of Minecraft oh yes anyways I’ve also seen higher FPS with like the ryzen 9 5900x or even the 5800x3d but that’s because it was in an earlier version of the game every time Minecraft developers launch a new version of it it gets more and more

Difficult to run and more and more CPU bound even with the iris and sodium so unfortunately we’re not seeing a thousand frames per second but we would be able to see like around double of what we’re seeing right now if we weren’t CPU belts but you know with

These Graphics you’re always going to be CPU bound if you have a decent GPU of course oh there we go a thousand frames per second in this area 1100 actually that is really high okay so it is possible to get a thousand so gaming is semi-playable then all right all right

Let’s try some shaders now I applied BSL shaders right here set to high and the only thing that I change from the preset was the bloom over here I turned that off because I find it a little bit annoying here so BSL is looking pretty damn good we lost about like 600 FPS

There may be a thousand in some scenarios because we were seeing like 100 1000 and 150 FPS at times so yeah uh but it it is still buttery smooth obviously and if you have a high refresh rate monitor you can play this game with BSL shaders make it look very very

Beautiful here uh and with a ton of FPS still like I I don’t think anybody would complain about 200 frames per second in Minecraft at 4K using shaders right this is absolutely wonderful of an experience and uh oh yeah let’s oh boy I heard some zombies there let’s take a look at the

Water that’s something very very beautiful here using the shaders of course look at that oh yes it isn’t even intensive as well as you can see we should probably go back to to the village and cook some meat so we can eat and run around because this is very very

Slow you know and I’m sure what I’m doing I just found the village in my previous playthrough and I was really happy because now I don’t need to build houses and stuff anyways we’ve seen the FPS using BSL shaders here in like a foresty area which is almost the most intensive

Biome here in Minecraft there is the jungle biome which is more intensive but yeah it shouldn’t really vary too much from what we’ve seen right anyway let’s stop it there maybe it would drop to like 140 150 in a jungle with like the bamboo and stuff which is really

Intensive but that’s about it this overall is an amazing experience obviously but I’m not really a big fan of BSL shaders honestly so let’s go up to or let’s go down to no it’s not like let’s go equals to jocka pick 13 V6 extreme it’s equals because no Shader is

Better than the other it’s all down to personal preference of course and here at 4K it is getting around the same FPS right maybe a little bit more GPU bound with these shaders interestingly so the other ones BSL were actually a bit more CPU intensive than these ah there we go

Now we’re cooking on the furnace look at those lens flares they look beautiful I love these actually jacobic V6 looks extremely good in my opinion uh and especially the water it’s not rate raced or anything but I I think it looks lovely guys all right let’s eat finally

There we go that wasn’t really as good as I expected it to be oh boy two sticks two sticks are two sticks enough to cook one meat thank you yes it is okay good we need more uh logs and stuff there’s lava over here I didn’t notice that oh

Look at that water guys looks awesome doesn’t it damn alright this is what I like about chocolate Peak shaders my friends it’s super super vibrant the lens flares are beautiful as well look at that damn yes and the water is very very good looking as well so um let’s

Grab some of this wood around here oh yes still super damn playable slightly more intensive than the SL shaders I think look at that lighting Minecraft is such a beautiful game sometimes if you use shaders it can look astonishing my friend look at this look at roaching all its Glory right there oh

Yes how are you going buddy roach all good uh it must be with this lighting you know oh there’s another roach right here how is it going boy also there are shadows and they block the the Sun and stuff look at this very interesting and you can see the gods Rays right there

Yeah very nice okay let’s continue I want to find some water and now I am not testing any texture packs here those would make the game a little bit more intensive sometimes it’s pretty much the same other times it’s a bit more intensive but yeah it would make for a

Video with double the length so these are already really big I won’t really test that it’s just testing shaders which are the most intensive things here like what the hell did they improve the lighting or the god Rays here because that looks so good that is very impressive all right let’s go

Almost there there are zombies everywhere can I even sleep now oh couple of creepers oh low Enderman couple of Enderman no no well there is the bed let’s sleep then okay everything is fine let’s see the sunrise oh yes oh yes that’s what I’m talking about I love you so much son

Goodbye buddy no stop it can you can you stop it God get serious are you serious also I think we’re playing on hard difficulty for some reason I yeah I said it too hard because it’s usually very easy you know surviving in Minecraft to just sleep and sleep roach can you help

And everything all right guys so we’ve seen enough I guess we went to a little bit of a forest as well FPS dropped there 187 spiders don’t die with the sun okay well let me just go this way then um 187 on average 89 one percent lows it

Is still awesome and buttery smooth and a high refresh rate experience so let’s go to complementary re-imagine shaders these shaders are very requested by you guys and they look really really good let me just check the settings of the shaders everything is set to default on high and reimagined and stuff and look

At this I absolutely love these shaders guys they look wonderful they’re a little bit more intensive than the previous ones that we tested but with a 4080 who cares right it’s gonna run flawlessly anyways hello check out it going why you you you you switched the

The the the the fur now the FPS average are gonna go up because we’re getting more FPS looking at the sky also I didn’t notice those clouds previously that’s pretty interesting and now going back to the furnace because there are some furnaces here okay we didn’t need that hi dude how’s it going

Um yeah let’s go back here and let’s cook the rest of the meat yes what is this guy doing near me I I don’t understand what do you want are you protecting me are you my bodyguard or something stop looking at me stop looking at me yeah look at the Horizon

That’s it very nice anyway we should get out of here right let’s go towards the Forest Area next and see the FPS there because it’s gonna drop there of course oh and let’s check out the water as well this water is looking pretty nice oh

Yeah but then we we get close to it and it looks like normal Minecraft water but now with reflection that’s it and they’re not Ray traced because yeah they disappear once the objects are off screen so it’s it’s pretty weird I like the complementary normal complementary Shader is a little bit better actually

Near the trees it’s not a problem it still gets 180s uh 170s doesn’t drop by too much basically and is pretty dang smooth let’s stop it there we got pretty decent results here to be expected once again and let’s try complementary shaders version 4.7.1 let’s start counting our FPS sun

Is already going down like we wasted an entire day just cooking what the heck now I’m not gonna use cheats in this one my friends all right also a couple of stuttering here and there that’s completely normal jeez these are some thick MFS guys some thick trees right

Here also 169 FPS on average that’s really nice with a lot of stuttering so those one percent loads are going down like crazy but again that’s completely normal in Minecraft whenever you need to load in new areas you will get stuttering there’s just no way around it

It’s also installed on an SSD by the way so no problem storage wise either it’s just how it is my friends okay and look at that reflection of the lights on top of the the trees that looks incredible I I think the complementary shaders are probably my favorite shaders out of all

Of them that I tested they they really complement the game very well it is running all right if you lock the FPS it will get rid of some of the stuttering issues as well so it will get a little bit better let’s test other shaders Continuum 2.0.5 but we can actually do

The 2.1 Alpha builds oh that doesn’t work why is it not working I feel like oh it was working with OptiFine that’s it there actually gave me this build the developers of Continuum so thank you guys but yeah I can test it with Iris please fix

All right so Continuum it is set to medium without want it on medium we kind of want it on like Ultra right Ultra sounds nice for the 4080 here and oh yeah no no it doesn’t sound right let’s do high these are some really intensive shaders that’s right

I forgot oh my God what the hell why is hi so much more intensive than Ultra he’s getting one FPS with an RTX 4080 what how is that even possible I didn’t think it was possible in Minecraft to get what FPS with a card like this

Well medium it is my friends a minimum yeah let’s set it to minimum first so I can actually navigate the menu you know and change things around alright thank you so much what the hell was that dude all right so medium Continuum shaders these are looking a little bit

More bland than the other ones they are just as intensive I don’t like this too much that’s why they actually contacted me telling me that they have new shaders or that that shadow actually looks really good even at the distance look at that really Dynamic here casting the

Shadows off the the leaves all of them it’s just personal preference once again if you don’t like the look of it you don’t like the look of it if you really do like the look of it and the water looks really good here using Continuum shaders for example these are digimon’s

Favorite shaders and there’s nothing wrong with that it can also be your favorite Shader oh my God I should probably make like a torch or something like oh my goodness what am I even doing here in Minecraft just running around like a prick if I don’t kill myself we’re gonna find like

A a zombie and we’re gonna die with it so let’s just die shall we so that was that world okay now we’re gonna go to creative mode which I do love to test things around because we can fly around and see the things that I want to show

You without having a problem I try I try to do survival in the Survival series but since I need to test the things and the FPS are different areas it’s just too difficult okay it’s not viable I’m sorry let’s go now so we we we’re seeing really low one percent lows because of

Flying around and uh loading in new chunks of the map and stuff like that again that’s completely normal in Minecraft I kind of wished that it would run a little bit smoother with Iris and sodium because supposedly it actually takes care of the stuttering issues in the optimization issues but no it’s not

Better actually right now it’s so much worse it is stuttering with a massive Spike there in the frame time graph every like five seconds or so and it’s terrible but hey here it is the water so let’s try legless shaders standards not the light ones because that’s reserved

For stuff like the gt705 that I tested previously this is it no major settings with these shaders and uh is getting 300s these are the least intensive shaders out of all of them it’s stuttering so much dude that’s actually super annoying I think it’s down to the latest Minecraft version it just

Completely broke it again yeah every freaking time I test this game with a new version it just stitters more and more I have no idea how the developers think this is acceptable like this is stupid getting 300 FPS average with 21 lows God damn it this turned into a rant

Ah I’m sorry guys I’m sorry but this is just freaking ridiculous right all right now it’s a little bit smoother because we already rendered in this area so we aside from the fact that I can’t test it in survival you know because I can’t show you the things that I want to show

We also can’t really explore the creative world because it’s wrecked our one percent lows maybe I shouldn’t really care about that stuff too much and I should just move on you already know if you stand still in the the first few chunks that you load it’s gonna be

Fine and smooth if you fly around it is a stuttery kind of unplayable and very unpleasant mess I don’t like staggering issues most Gamers don’t like stuttering issues please stop introducing that as a feature alright rent is over now thank you so it gets 300 frames per second

Which is nice obviously it doesn’t really look all that impressive but these are the lagless shaders so they’re not really meant to look very impressive they’re meant to play very well Luma shaders on the other hand look insanely different look at this super vibrant the water is just the tastiest that I’ve

Seen it today and honestly these are kind of growing on me right now guys because it looks really good right kind of looks like jello a little bit but I’m fine with that I like jello as well look at beautiful oh yes that’s right we can

Also use some TNT in creative mode okay things are lining up for us my friends everything will be more interesting than just flying around okay ah there we go okay a beautiful portal in the middle of nowhere alright so should we try yes should we try this

So we’re in hell now it’s way easier to run as you can see instead of 200s we are getting well 200s again but Not all of the time all right oh my God what this is the portal where we just came in right like why is it in the middle of lava what there is no way out I would need to bring a lot of dirt to make like a bridge or something if I was

Playing Survival so I guess that’s about it for Luma shaders the water isn’t intensive the trees aren’t really that intensive either we’ve already loaded this part so it’s not stuttering at the moment which is nice well there we go it’s back uh and yeah it it looks really

Good and vibrant I like these actually Sue’s ptgi E12 these are path traced shaders you could also call it Ray tracing it’s it’s similar and you can instantly tell like the FPS are actually dropping from 60. wow okay but yeah the way you can see that it is path raised

Is that there is the The Little Portal thingy right it’s whenever it’s not on the the screen you can still see the reflection in the water so there’s that it looks really weird though and it doesn’t reflect the purple part of it but everything does reflect here and that’s what’s killing our FPS

Using Sue’s ptgi shaders they look a little bit Bland once again kind of Continuum like you know and they perform much worse so I wouldn’t really play like this drops from 60 yeah serious ptgi hr3 is a version of the rate race or path traced shaders that looks a lot

More vibrant it’s just as intensive as the previous ones it’s also a lot softer guys also see the reflection of the trees on the water for example yeah once they’re off screen you can still see they are there I prefer these to suspic GI you know to be honest but they are a

Little bit softer because they’ll run at half resolution and there are better looking shaders around in my opinion at least so unless you are a freak for some Reflections I wouldn’t do this I wouldn’t utilize these especially at 4K resolution and if you want 60 plus FPS all of the time at 4K

With shaders like these you actually need a 40 90. because the 4080 drops this is how intensive shaders in Minecraft can be it can put the 40 series to its knees guys let’s destroy the entire world of Minecraft also has anyone already put so much TNT on top of

The world that the whole world was TNT and then exploded it all that would be pretty interesting and something that I would probably do in my free time if I had that free time okay so let’s go oh well that was a very big disappointment

All right let’s do it in that one there we go stand close to it so we can see the beauty of it all right there we go didn’t drop see it’s more CPU intensive so unless you have a CPU bottle like you’re not really gonna see a major

Difference with TNT so Sue’s renewed is next these are not Ray trace or path traced so we’re getting up into the 100s once again High refresh rate experience once again I I do not really like this too much just want to see a little bit of like fire effects and lighting here

That looks alright it does light up some darker areas as you can see here but these are not intensive they’re way more stable than the previous ones water looks really good in my opinion but everything else is once again really Bland and pretty soft for some reason

Let’s turn off TAA actually see if it looks a little bit crispier yes it does but it kind of looks like it’s not running at Native resolution for some reason this is weird it’s shimmering a lot more than the previous shaders that we tested for example right there at the distance

You can see a lot of aliasing that’s normal if you don’t use anti-aliasing of course but again the other previous shaders that we tested uh looked a little bit less shimmery let’s try Silver’s vibrant shaders version 1.50 extreme with volumetric lighting these are the ones that I installed I think

They look really good and very vibrant obviously it’s in the name I would have liked to seen some lens flares honestly because there are none right now like what the heck you know what let’s increase all of the reflections here oh that looks sick actually why doesn’t it come like this by default

That looks like some really interesting running water like it’s it’s so alive right now I really like it also these shaders are not the most intensive ones they’re like middle of the pack like complementary shaders I would say so you can rest assured that it is going to be

A high refresh rate experience all of the time damn that water dude that’s so fast moving I like it they’re actually a little bit more intensive than what I was expecting interestingly um but yeah they’re very good looking and I I totally recommend them guys they’re

Free as well also all of these are free aside from these ones that we couldn’t really test either so uh yeah there’s that and now let’s disable the shaders okay this is how it looks at least we’re getting a thousand two hundred FPS so that’s pretty good so

Here we go this is 7680 by 43 20 it’s 8K it’s like having four 4K monitors running at once that’s insane and we’re using the default High settings here looks exactly the same probably especially on YouTube I can tell it’s a little bit sharper and there’s a little

Bit more definition in leaves at the distance like those ones right there but you know I wouldn’t really do this but hey this is for testing purposes obviously and for curiosity’s sake and it is actually GPU bound now because we are running the game at 400 ish frames

Per second 90 plus percent GPU utilization and previously at 4K it wasn’t at 90 it was at like 50 GPU usage with like 800 FPS or a thousand plus at times I just found these couple of houses right here I’ll burn it all wait

How are you how are you gonna get out of this now boy [Laughter] you know what I’m just gonna destroy this thing and burn you oh yes villager barbecue Jack came for a barbecue that’s very nice Jack why don’t you eat like this is weird okay Jack I’m such a bad person right

Now actually these guys are just minding their own business in the middle of the woods and I came to disrupt everything oh I can’t eat the breads oh that’s that’s a curse isn’t it 421 FPS on average wait a second we’re so close to getting 420 on average and

69 one percent lows this could have been such an amazing experience like the ultimate Minecraft experience here that would be sick anyway let’s try it with some shaders now oh my God okay so the normal shaders like BSL and stuff are now getting 60 frames per second instead of like 200

Which is insane so these are performing like the shoes ptgi basically with the path Trace stuff but it is still playable you know aside from the major stuttering issues that we’re seeing which can be resolved by downgrading to a previous version of the game that runs much better

Um yeah it’s it’s around 60 frames per second so that means that this packs quite a bit of a bunch you know this is 8k once again with shaders beautiful lighting here and it is at 60 FPS let’s go ahead and keep these a little bit shorter because not many

People are going to be playing at 8K let’s be honest here right uh okay let’s see choker pick are slightly more intensive getting FPS in the 50s more often than the 60s so there’s that if you just went to like uh brag to your friends or something if they come to

Your house and you actually have an 8K TV and you connect it to that and play like this they will never see Minecraft that beautiful again in their lives let’s do complimentary reimagined the people’s favorites I guess look at that the the clouds using reimagine look pretty interesting in my opinion you

Know that it’s a very nice take on clouds here in Minecraft and these are a little bit more intensive than the Joker pick shaders now dropping into the 40s lower 50s at times wait oh that’s a b okay I thought it was a flying block of

A dirt or something but yeah this this looks incredible once again we can now see the sunset here near the water wow look at those those Reflections right there again not rage raised but I don’t really care the train paid off for them being rate raised is like 10 FPS

Probably so so I would definitely take this all day over the shoes ptgi stuff and if you guys are interested this is how it looks not as impressive as other sunsets that we’ve seen here today but certainly very very good looking now with complementary shaders the normal

Ones let’s see the rest of the sunset like this still looking amazing and the water does look just way better than the reimagined ones I think I would prefer these ones oh look at that the Moon is actually looking pretty interesting as well okay we need to

Sleep this off now once again those Gods rays are so soft they look so good that lighting man it’s something else complementary shaders look awesome my friends let’s go ahead and try continue way different of a look right it kind of looks like another time

Of the day oh and it’s getting 30s as soon as I moved that Mouse it was really terrible so at 8K yeah once you get into the 30s I wouldn’t really play like this I would say like 40 plus is all right for Minecraft like 30 is not 30 is is it

Feels way too slow and way too choppy in my opinion seems like these are more intensive near the water as well look at that 38 here 37 and near the trees 40s yeah I’m gonna go ahead and try some lagless Shader standard not the light ones the light look pretty bad actually

All right finally some shaders with 100 plus FPS at least right now at 8K resolution these are actually not looking bad once again yeah that lighting though the gods rays are not really that accurate maybe through here yeah they are accurate through the the leaves there but standing right here

Yeah it’s just some general lighting as you can see here for example other is right there they’re moving with us as well they’re not really interacting with the trees but once again these are lagless shaders supposed to be the least intensive ones and they do that very

Well as you can see water also looks alright although kind of weird because the parts of it that are closer to the Surfers are are darker than the ones that are further away from the Surfers in in the Deep waters you know these are the legless shaders go up again thank you

And they look and perform all right from actually quite well oh yes the project Zuma ones I’m curious okay 60 again if you want 60 plus the 40 90 is the way to go with these shaders which is insane that’s the only GPU that can run 8K with

These shaders at 60 plus you know but once again 8K is also an insane resolution and here we are this is the actual opposite of the lagless shaders once again the depths are darker than the non-depth yes now comes the hard stuff that’s what she

Said okay no no I’m sorry I’m sorry I gotta stop with this and uh I was expecting 10 FPS I wasn’t too far off 16 frames per second just for those Reflections you know it’s it’s so not worth it guys and even the the LOD for

Example look at that look at the trees popping in in the water their reflection it’s not even reflecting that far into the distance you know look at that just showing up there oh my good yet it’s so intensive dude it’s crazy this should be pretty similar maybe slightly uh better

In terms of FPS yep okay so we’re getting six more frames per second that’s quite nice once again darker areas of the um water are the deeper one is looking incredible wow wait a second oh look at those lens flares damn holy crap this is beautiful my friends I

Love this probably more than I should love this because I have a diving license you know that I made a few years ago and Nostalgia no I haven’t dived in a while I don’t have any friends to do it with you can walk around get some screenshots

And stuff like that the water is so clear here kind of really makes me go dive in this area right here it must be so cool finally silder’s vibrant shaders V 1.5 extreme and these are pretty much the same as the last ones slightly less intensive because it’s not

Dropping into the 30s anymore here well 39 there but yeah very slightly less intensive the water doesn’t look as good as the previous few shaders that we tested but you know the lighting it’s all about the lighting this one I just don’t know where the lens flares went

Because I loved the lens flares here using these shaders let’s try them with high for example does it enable lens flares here now no it doesn’t the lighting is better the one high what the hell what I am so confused right now this looks better to me than the extreme
