Hello everyone my name is pick Soros and welcome back to the Minecraft Survival Guide this is going to be episode 6 and today we have to start off by acknowledging something interesting here we have updated to Minecraft version 1 point 13 0.1 which means a couple of Changes and means upgrading our world to the next version so we’re going to click on single-player we’re going to type Survival Guide so we’re only looking at this one here and as you can see here it says version 1 point 13 so this version hasn’t been updated to one point Thirteen point one yet so now we’ve made the update in our launcher as long as you’re using the latest version you should always be updating to the new version each time when we click play it’s going to ask us to confirm that we want to update it to one point thirteen Point one and if you’re updating worlds to snapshot versions which are less stable it is more likely that you experience world corruptions so mo yang does allow you to back up your world before you load it in this case I’ve already made a backup off camera because I’m backing up this series basically Every time I make an episode so I can say I know what I’m doing and the world will load in minecraft 1.13 point one and here we are stepping out of our wonderful house on a very rainy day this is definitely a feature of Minecraft That I wanted to cover at some point and the Minecraft world has blessed us with some rain of rain is rain is something that happens in Minecraft every now and again and if you are sleeping regularly you may not see rain as often but because we’ve been working night and day To get this house done it has started to rain and as you’ll notice it’s not dark enough that monsters can spawn if it’s a thunderstorm it’s possible for monsters to spawn whilst rain is happening so you’ve got to be a little bit careful but nothing really special about rain Yet in Minecraft is just an aspect that lends a little bit of ambience to the Minecraft world as you can see the distance becomes a little bit more foggy and we get the gentle sound of rain in the background but I don’t think on this version of Minecraft rain will actually Hydrate your farm or anything like that in bedrock editions of the game so on on consoles and on Windows 10 it actually will hydrate farmland when it rains so you don’t necessarily have to have alongside a lake or a river or a water source you’ve placed yourself but Obviously the rest of the time when it’s not raining you or your crops are not going to be hydrated so it’s always better to to build it around there anyway our wheat farm has grown substantially whilst we’ve been working on the house so we can harvest the rest of this and Maybe use some of that to make bread or other things today and we might even feed some of it to the animals to make sure we can breed them up so what do you do on rainy days in Minecraft you may ask well I think today what we’re gonna Do is finish off the interior of our house it seems like a good day to stay indoors really doesn’t it so let’s let’s work on the interior of our house let’s move our little storage area that we had in the wooden shack into the house and Kind of formalize that to make it a storage area that we can come back to time and time again that sounds like a good idea you will also notice that there may be a couple of Oh have broken that one I don’t have my home on me so That one’s gonna have to stay as a dirt block for the moment you might notice that there are a couple of changes subtle changes that have happened in at Minecraft 1.13 point one notably that we don’t have squids over here in the lake anymore this update has made a change Where squid now appear only in River biomes and in ocean biomes and this is not a river nor is it an ocean it’s kind of like a an open area of water in a regular Minecraft forest so we won’t be seeing squid here anymore so it’s a good Idea for us to have grabbed the ink sacs that we did whilst the squid were swimming around over here I’m gonna replant these beetroot having harvested them and we’ll head back to the house and I’ll probably set up a couple of chests in there to be our storage but I’m really happy with this house so far I haven’t made any changes to it off-camera just yet but I feel like today we’re going to be making some changes to it together now as you can see and here our our room is a little bit it’s a little bit grassy Still we still need to put down a decent floor and to do that I’m actually going to do something that I do in a lot of my builds and this is something that a friend of mine suggested a while ago and always used to do in his own built and That is if you break the block that the door is standing on and then put a crafting table in there and then put the door back you’ll always know where your crafting tables are because they always going to be in the doorways of your houses so even though when you right-click on it You’ll you’ll be able to craft stuff but make sure you right-click on the door if you want to open and close it makes it nice and easy to remember where the crafting tables are in your builds of course you can put them just open and Around in the house any way you like but it’s it’s always an interesting trick to have them in the doorways of your house that way you’ll never stuck for understanding where a crafting table is going to be in your builds now I’m going to remove the floor in here we’re going To dig it all up and using this crafting table I’m probably going to make some oak wood slabs this is gonna be a very oak looking build I think because we don’t really have any other kind of wood right now and it might be worth exploring for those of later in the Episode but for now I’m going to dig out the floor here and completely cover it with oak slabs so that’s going to take me a minute or two I will cut away and I’ll come back when I’ve got that done and we’re just finishing up the floor That’s looking lovely it’s a little bit plain for the moment but at the very least we’ve got a floor in here that is something other than grass now as you can see the Sun is setting it’s still raining outside and it is nighttime but if we go to sleep now what happens is The weather cycle in Minecraft will reset not only will we skip the night but the rain will actually go away and it’ll revert back to the standard minecraft sunny day I’m going to take a quick look around here just to make sure there are no monsters that have spawned While it got dark there for a second but I think we’re in the clear I think they should still be in the caves and so forth and we can run around at the overworld and explore as much as we want to fantastic so I’m actually going to leave the downstairs area of This house a little bit more open it might help to place a couple of chests down here for the stuff that we want to want to keep close to hand other stuff that we want to put around our bed maybe that kind of thing but I do want to Leave a little bit of open space here later and I’ll explain why a little bit later on in this episode but up here we can start on a second floor you’ll see I put these stairs up here in the previous episode just so I could climb up to this Level of the house and here I’m going to show you something interesting about slabs and our slabs can be in two places they can be on the bottom half of a block like that and they can be on the top half of a block like that and there Are a couple of reasons for this there are a couple of things that make this a very important mechanic in craft the first of which is that mobs always require the top half of a block to be present in order to spawn so for example if you wanted to if a zombie Wanted to spawn here it would only be able to spawn on one of these blocks here where the the surface is kind of like at the top of a block if it’s a half block down at like this monsters won’t be able to spawn on it regardless Of whether or not it’s lit up so this can actually be a really important mechanic to use for improving areas and lighting up and mob proofing areas so it’s it’s important to do that the other thing is slabs can stack up so if you stack two slabs on top of each other Like that they will look like a full block and even the kind of wireframe that appears around the block will show up like it’s a full block however if you break it you still get two slabs back so you can actually conserve materials pretty well by using slabs instead of Full blocks sometimes and just use them for the the little areas that you want to use them for now I’m going to actually make a series of slabs and sometimes even full blocks because it doesn’t matter that much around at the outside of this room so it lines up with The oak logs that we’ve put around the side of the room here and then for the interior of the room what I’m actually going to do is create a one slab thick sort of ceiling add a top block position like so so it’s actually going to have a Little bit of a lip leading down towards the ends there and that’s going to come out across the room I might even add in some wooden beams once we gather a little bit more oak wood because that will give the ceiling a little bit more character and I’ll feel a little bit More like a beamed wooden medieval rustic kind of house if we do that and we’re going to continue these along here and obviously I would love for the the upstairs part of this room to be mob proof we might benefit from that in the long run but ultimately it’s going to be More kind of it’s going to be nicer to be able to put stuff on top of a block like so instead of if you place a slab down there and you try and place a block on top of that you’re gonna have a gap in between the two of them it’s gonna Have this kind of half block gap there because you can’t place it inside the area of this slab the slab still kind of occupies the area that a full block would take up so it’s actually worth noting that if you plan on designing some of these houses yourself you have to make A bit of a note about how slabs behave all right we’ll we’ll go ahead and finish up the ceiling of this I’m going to do a little bit more tree farming off-camera we’re not going to take down this tree because I like this tree so much this tree is probably gonna be There for the remainder of this series but the rest of the trees over here seem to have grown all right so let’s do a little bit of lumberjacking and I’ll be right back with you once we finish the ceiling so here we are with a finished ceiling and an upstairs floor to our House and you’ll noticed I’ve also changed the kind of orientation of this staircase because before you had to walk into the corner to walk up the steps and I didn’t think that worked out so well so what I’ve done is I’ve added in a nice corner stair here and a flat Platform here so that the staircase can in fact come out into the center of the room and that way when you walk in the door all you have to do is just head right and you can go straight upstairs to this space here which is now nice and Flat and we’re going to be using it for our storage system because as you can see there is a ton of space up here which we can fill out with multiple things and also because we’ve used these wooden beams to mark out different spaces you could even use these Different spaces for different things that’s totally up to you but it’s a nice way of splitting up a room into different areas with different objectives to them so what we’re going to do is open up this and we’ve got some planks here in the inventory already we Can turn these into chests and we’re going to make a couple of double chests up here and double chests nice and easy to make all you need to do is place a chest and then place one next to it or alternatively if you’re holding shift And crouch you can split them up like so so that you you place them separately or if you’re looking at the side of this chest here it will combine them into a double chest and chests can now be placed next to each other which didn’t used to be possible in a Minecraft you Had to use a chest and then a traps chest which is a different kind of thing that you had to make with a tripwire hook but in the end all you need to do is put these next to each other like so in this most recent update of Minecraft And you can make a nice easy storage system like this and double chests of course have twice the amount of space that a single chest does so you can store loads of stuff in it and you can stack them row by row on top of each Other like we go into here and it’s going to be a really great way of storing a bunch of items right here at the beginning of the game I’m also going to clear up the chests that I out here and it’s as simple as just breaking a chest that like so because All the items will pop out of it and if you’ve got enough inventory space you can pick them all up but right now I haven’t saw well just put the gold and iron and maybe our water bucket in there just put the torches back on my hotbar Because it’s getting dark and then let’s run into the house probably sleep in the bed but we can set up the rest of a storage system upstairs here nighttime is also a great way of noticing when there are dark spots in your build so for example here because we’ve got the Roof kind of closed in like this we’re not getting any skylight and because it’s dark outside you can see that there’s a darker patch here it’s just a little bit darker than normal so what we want to do is pop a torch in there so It’s nice and bright and we want to make sure that no monsters can spawn up here whilst we’re downstairs sleeping because it has the last thing we want really let’s hop into bed and skip the night and I’ll add some more chests to that storage system until we’ve got a whole Bunch over there okay so I think what we have here is a pretty decent and organized storage system and it doesn’t look like much right now but we can at make a couple of things that will help us label these chests so we understand where everything is but for The most part if you can remember where stuff is in your storage system you’re never going to have a hard time finding anything so let’s take a look at what we’ve got here for a start in this chest is where I’ve put all of our valuable Stuff the iron of the gold the Diamonds redstone and lapis a saddle in case we want to ride a horse things like that stuff that you’re going to need pretty much as soon as you come up the stairs so it’s nice to have this stuff in a Place to it easily accessible the chest below that is where I’m going to be putting all of the tools that we’ve either worn out and want to keep or any tools that we’re not using at the moment but want to have available to us so that’s going to be nice and handy as Well now here we have the mob drops chest so this is going to be where you put any drops from either hostile or passive mobs for example spider eyes and string from the spiders gunpowder from the creepers some rotten flesh from zombies and leather from the cows which We’re actually going to use in a minute so I’m going to bring that out into my inventory and keep hold of the rest of these chests are currently empty because we will put some other stuff in there later but we’re not going to worry about those right now instead we’re going to Turn to our left and this longer row of chests here has some other important stuff I always find putting wood on one end of the storage system is a good idea because you need wood a lot for building so right now I would put logs in here if I had any but I’ve used the last of my logs to make these chests right now up in this chest here we have the other stuff we have wooden slabs and stairs fences trapdoors and doors and the stuff that you need to make trees again so oak saplings and leaves can be broken down into saplings Once you’ve harvested them with shears so it’s also nice to have those around and they’re also nice to keep for decoration as well and you’ll notice I’ve separated the oak leaves out from the birch leaves just so I know which is which now in this chest here we’ve got The decorative stone types andesite granite and diorite which means that this chest down here has the practical stone types the ones that you use to make tools and so forth so we’ve got cobblestone in here I’ve also put the cobblestone slabs and stairs and also some mossy cobblestone if we wanted to Use that for decoration the next chests along has dirt and stuff like that and there are a few different variants on dirt like it is possible to acquire grass blocks later in the game if you wanted to decorate an area with that if it wasn’t looking particularly Grassy and it’s getting dark outside but don’t worry we’re nice and safe here inside our house we don’t need to worry about the monsters right away so here we have a spear chest for other stuff related to grass and dirt in this chest I’m putting in dyes so things like Ink sacs that can be used to dye things and then the flowers which can be broken down into dyes above that we have colored wool so we’ve got white light gray gray and black wool from the Sheep that are out there in our little pen and those will will stay there for the Foreseeable future I think using some dyed blocks in the near future and these last two chests as you can see are also blanks so we’ve got plenty of spare room here and we can organize these chests however we want as we go along just depending on what kind of resources we Acquire and how much other stuff we’ve also only used a very tiny space up here and it is possible to expand the storage system all the way along this wall and this wall if we want to we’ve got room and to expand this as we go along but I Think for now that we’ll probably do that will be a pretty good storage system to have for the foreseeable future but minecraft is a game with a lot of reefs sources in it and you may even find yourself outgrowing this storage system and if that’s the case then expanding it Is an option but also building a dedicated storage house is an option so you can build storage in a house that you don’t intend to live in you don’t intend to sleep in regularly you can always move stuff around as you see fit now down here I’m actually going to Place a couple of the furnaces and we’re going to quickly smelt up some of the other stuff that we’ve acquired things like iron ore and probably a little bit more food as well and I’m going to show you guys how I plan to label some of These storage areas just so I’m aware of which things are which in future so I’m gonna open this up actually I need a little bit more wood from the outside so let’s go and grab that while we can have a quick check around for any monsters because we did let it get dark A little bit earlier but nope it looks like it will either burnt up in the sunlight or they’re staying away so that’s fine let’s grab another oak tree that’s grown over here I’ve been replanting my saplings over and over again in order to get these trees to Grow so hopefully we should be able to to grow a few more in the local area and I’ve also been venturing out into the woodland over there to gather o’clock’s when I need them so it’s probably worth keeping that in mind you might need to go a little bit further afield for the Resources occasionally so I’m gonna break these down into sticks like so we’re gonna get 40 sticks and with those we are going to make some item frames like so we’ve got 40 sticks is enough to make five item frames and an item frame is just a piece of leather from cows Surrounded by sticks and thankfully we have a bunch of leather from the calves that we’ve been farming out there in the pen down there which we will probably expand later cuz it doesn’t look like they have much space so with an item frame if you hold down shift and place It you can place it on the side of a chest like so and then it will become a nice and easy to see what’s in the chest like this so I can put the wooden pickaxe on there and that will actually serve as a display to say this means That tools are in this chest here and I can probably even do the same up here for the valuable resources so let’s put a gold ingot in there because I’m not using gold for anything right now and that will indicate to us that the valuable resources are in this chest Here so nice and easy to follow you’ll notice also that it makes it slightly difficult to click on the chest because if you right-click here you’re going to be right-clicking on the item frame which rotates the item that is held in it so you might want to Limit this to the chests that you absolutely need to label or an alternative could be to make signs which I don’t think I have any spare signs in our chest here but you can see why I need to label it because I just had to look through three chests in order to Find the one that had wood in it but now we don’t have any materials to make signs right now so maybe we will save that for another day but signs you can actually type on in minecraft so it is it is nice and easy to label stuff and Signs will only take up a small section of the side of a chest here so you can always look above or below the sign to open it and find the stuff you want but for now I think I’ll probably put an item frame on there because it’s nice And easy to access this chest from the side we’ll put an oak sapling in the frame there and that will tell us that that is where all of the extra tree stuff is including the stuff we need to regrow trees and maybe we’ll put one Down there as well and we’ll have a log on that once I’ve actually acquired a log let’s maybe label the cobblestone chest as well like so because that’s nice and easy to remember there we go and as you can see you can always click on the top part of the chest there above The item frame it just it’s a matter of preference really whether you want to use item frames heavily or not but if some does sometimes make things a little bit tricky to click on if you’re not looking at exactly the right spot so what are we going to do next what is the Next objective in this world I I have a feeling it is time to go and acquire some more diamonds because we gathered four diamonds in our previous episode and right now I’m going to make these into one of the most important tools you will ever need we’re going to take three Of these that we’re going to grab a little bit more wood and we’re going to make our first diamond pickaxe and diamond pickaxes are very important because there is nothing with the exception I guess of bedrock at the bottom of the world that they cannot mine it is the ultimate tool effectively In Minecraft and you will end up using diamond pickaxe is an awful lot if you play Minecraft for any length of time so here we go folks this is gonna be our first diamond pickaxe for the Minecraft Survival Guide there it is I feel like there should be an advancement for that I feel like we should have more fanfare for that but da da da da there it is there it is lovely and shiny and blue and with this we have a distinct upgrade from the iron tools we’ve been using thus far because as you can see from the tooltips here the iron Tools have a maximum durability of 250 so they can mine 250 blocks before they break right the diamond tools have a maximum durability which is not indicated right now because I haven’t broken everything let’s go and break a piece of stone just to show you guys what’s up here right let’s let’s take One of these out of the wall here like so there you go durability bar appears fifteen hundred and sixty one so one five six one you can break over fifteen hundred blocks one thousand five hundred blocks so basically it is it is six times longer lasting than an iron Pickaxe which makes it very very useful my friends so we’re going to use this to go mining for the foreseeable future we’re going to even eventually hopefully be able to enchant this with a couple of enchantments that will allow it to continue for even longer than that but That is why we need to find more diamonds I’m gonna venture down into this cave and see if there is a place that it is likely we can find some more diamonds and this cave you’ll notice was the one that was underneath our original wooden shack this was the one we dug Down to and this one we have not explored fully so we’ll take a quick poke around here before we end today’s episode I think we’ve got time for it so we may as well let’s hop down here past the waterfall let’s make sure we place our torches on the wall on the left-hand Side so we can always find the right way back because we are potentially going to run into some dangerous guys there they are hello and as we can see we can back away into the water and the zombies are just going to be pushed around by the Water so it’s nice and easy to fight them over here we might even use our X if we want to do a little bit of extra damage there we go heck out them with the X fantastic stuff we’re doing okay oh we hit a bat there by mistake no Worries bats won’t tend to drop anything bats are just there to be a a nuisance in caves a lot of the time let’s hop down here and see what we have looks like the cave is bottoming out around here there’s a little bit more iron in the floor but obviously we’re not Deep enough to find diamonds yet we have to go much further down than this I think let’s see what’s around each corner oh there’s a creeper there and the creeper just got shot by a skeleton perv whoops let’s see if we can get the creeper to Be shot one more time there we go there’s a fun aspect of skeletons shooting creepers which hopefully I will have a chance to explain but it looks like our friend the creeper here is a little bit faster than the skeleton is so we’re gonna have to take him out nice And early but if you get a skeleton to kill a creeper if the last arrow the skeleton fires actually kills the creeper it will give you something very special so that’s that’s not something to try out just yet but maybe at some point in future we will be able to Demonstrate that mechanic there we go block for the shield nice and easy okay looks like we’ve reached the end of this cave and it doesn’t go any further down so I’m going to have to dig down see if I can start a strip mine and find some Diamonds I will briefly do that and if we can find some diamonds we will end our episode there oh dear mm-hm well we haven’t quite found oh gosh there’s a lava lake down there I really don’t want to fall into and there are skeletons all over the place Shooting at me we haven’t found any diamonds yet my friends but we have found something very very special this right here as you can see by the wooden planks is not something I have built before this is an abandoned mineshaft and it is apparently quite well protected by all of these monsters that Are coming out to get me right now there may even be a pack of zombies coming for us right now this this abandoned mineshaft is potentially going to be full of interesting loot and other things we might end up exploring it in the next episode because we are down Here to find diamonds but still lots of other stuff that can be found down here in the caves including creepers oh gosh and you saw me mine a little bit of gold back there as well so we will keep exploring this cave in the next episode my friends we’re not gonna finish Today’s episode with diamonds we’re gonna finish today’s episode with the discovery of a mineshaft and it’s a good thing we weren’t standing too close to that creeper wasn’t it yes all right we’re gonna end it here folks I’m gonna leave you on a cliffhanger I suppose For the moment but thank you so much for watching this episode of the Minecraft Survival Guide my name is ben pick Saurus and hopefully we survived this leave a like on this episode if you enjoyed it subscribe if you want to see more and I will see you guys soon bye for now You Video Information
