Hello everyone sally here and welcome back to another bedrock edition tutorial today i’ll be showing you how to build some very simple cheap and reliable item filters and item sorters in your bedrock edition worlds sorters and filters are the backbones of pretty much every type of storage system so understanding how And why to build these in your worlds is very very important for so many different types of projects and automation in this video i’ll be showing you a bunch of different designs and how to build them ranging from non-stackable item sorters to basic items orders overflow protection sorters double speed And quadruple speed sorters no matter what kind of storage system you want to make either for personal use farms mass item collection this video has something for you i’ll be explaining all the designs and all the mechanics in detail that way you understand how to build them and also more importantly how Exactly they work if you don’t know what an item filter is let me quickly explain these things basically filter and sort out whatever item you want to as long as that is a stackable item any item in the game that stacks you can build an item filter for it non-stackable items you Will need a specific filter for and i’ll talk about that later as well basically you have a hopper line going across the top here you can throw whatever you like into this chest as you can see this filter is for diamond blocks and all the diamond blocks that we put into this Chest will go directly downwards into this chest meanwhile everything and not a diamond block is going to be going into this chest over here and you can set up one of these for every single item in the game if you want or just a specific couple of items like stone Cobblestone or maybe something from a mob farm before we get too far into i do want to show you exactly what you’re getting yourself into with this video so first of all i’ll be showing you how to build 11 different designs before auto sorting and storage and along the way I’ll tell you everything that you need to know about them so of course we got the non-stackable item storage the ultra basic filter the impulse filter the bedrock edition overflow filter two time speed item collection two time speed item filter for water streams a better item stream two times filter a four Times filter a better four times filter a buggy four times filter and what should be the brand new super simple item filter for bedrock edition but target blocks are bugged so we can’t have nice things in addition to all of that i’ll also be showing you how to set These up with one another how to set up water streams for all of them and how to tile these things together and basically build yourself a custom storage system and your world so stay tuned we got a lot of stuff to cover this video is going to be broken up into several Different parts and if you highlight the playback bar below the video you’ll see the different chapters of this video first of all we’re going to cover the mechanics of how exactly item filters work and break down the magic behind the science then we’ll go over the basic Single speed item filters the ones that you’re most likely familiar with if you’ve been playing the game a while and then near the end of the video we’ll get into the more advanced designs double speed quadruple speed systems let’s quickly go over the mechanics of how an Item filter works so we have our actual hopper that stores the filter items and this is how you would actually configure your system we have a comparator to read the inventory read how many items and what items are in there and then we have some redstone dust this redstone dust is Going to loop around the bottom of the build and then unpower this hopper whenever it gets a strong enough signal right now we’re just powering that with a redstone block for demonstration anyway with a standard item filter that is just going to be a super basic one You would have 18 items of whatever you want to filter in the first slot and then some extra filler blocks in the back side four slots that way you don’t have extra items get in there that would break your filter later on as you can See with just 18 items that is only a signal strength of one but if we toss another item in there bam we suddenly get signal strength of two that redstone is gonna loop around the bottom of the build and then unpower this hopper and then that is going to drag out one item And as you can see we go back down to a signal strength of one this is gonna happen every single time you get an item into your item filter and it’s really quite very simple and very easy to automate and this hopper is then going to be putting all these extra Items into a storage chest now the major flaw of using such a basic system that only has a two redstone dust and only uses 18 items is whenever the system gets backed up it is going to completely break so as you can see this comparator is now powering itself and the slice Next to it as well because it is putting out a signal strength of three so to have a really good and reliable system that is overflow proof you need to use three redstone dust for a signal strength of three no matter what using this kind of system you will never get a Signal strength of a four as long as it is configured correctly as you can see we can’t fit any more gold blocks in there and we know for a fact we’re never gonna get these extra filler items into our system because these are a random item or they’re a random item that has Been renamed so it’s guaranteed never going to go through your system so that is how a basic item filter works and how an overflow item filter works as well for a non-stackable item filter this is actually so much simpler a non-stackable item automatically gives yourself a Signal strength of a three so as long as you have a three redstone dust you don’t even need any form of filter you can detect this going through a hopper line unpower your hopper and then grab that out immediately it is super straightforward this tutorial is part of My advent calendar for december of 2020 every single day in december i’m releasing some sort of farm contraption or cool redstone thing for you guys to build in your worlds we are nearing the end but i still have a lot of really good things on the way for you to enjoy all we have the basic no overflow protection design this one is best for very valuable items that you know you’re not going to get an entire Double chest of for example your blocks of diamond your with a skeleton skulls your beacons whatever like that this is also ideal for valuable items because it only requires 18 and the filter to build it is extremely simple and straightforward you need your hopper line across the top and this is where Our double chest is going to go we need a hopper going into the side of that double chest a slab right here and then a comparator right there place your hopper facing into that slab so it’s facing to the side if it’s facing downwards your filter is going to break And that goes for all of the item filters in today’s video going along we need a solid block right there solid block right there and then you can get yourself an upper slab right there going into a solid block as well go ahead and place a redstone torch right there and Then a repeater right here and finally a piece of redstone dust on both of these blocks to configure your filter you want 18 of whatever item you are trying to sort so just put 18 items in there and then fill up the other four slots with Placeholder items it is best to use a renamed item that way you know it is never gonna go through your system next up of course is the impulse sv design this has been around for basically ever everyone’s done a video on it i’m doing A video on it but i’m not going to show you how to build it because it is not reliable on a bedrock edition instead i’m going to show you how to build a better version although this is slightly more expensive so this one uses a piston To redirect the redstone dust as you can see it redirects it and that is going to unpower this torch we’re basically using that piston to replace this repeater right here which overall does speed up the system you cannot use a solid block in its place because that does of course Not a redirect redstone the piston is very important like that the piston will never extend if it has a piece of obsidian in front of it this system works very reliably way more reliably than the impulse version so of course you toss your items in the top and all Of those go into your chest as long as you’ve configured the filter correctly to build this system it is incredibly straightforward you need to put yourself in a tower of a chest and then a hopper going into the back of every single one of those chests this tower of chest can Go as far down as you like you can have a 20 chest or 500 it doesn’t really matter you now want to go ahead and place a solid block right here for comparator on it and a hopper facing into that comparator solid block up and Then a piece of glass right there with a solid block down in that location and another block there this can also be an upper slab if you so choose place redstone dust on top of all of that and then a piston facing to the side and a Redstone torch right there that is your filter done if you’re building these all right next to each other of course all the pistons face each other and then on the very end go ahead and place yourself a piece of obsidian if you’re just building a single one you could also Make your piston face directly upwards of course with a piece of obsidian right there just to keep your system silent to configure the system before filtering items and for all the other item filters in this video that use the three redstone dust you need to put 41 of Whatever you want to sort in the first slot and then four custom renamed item and every other slot of the filter moving on to the non-stackable item filter this works for any non-stackable item in the game and it’s going to throw them all into one chest sorting out individual non-stackable items is very Difficult and time consuming and most of this cannot be automated so it’s just going to go into one chest if we grab ourselves a little tester demonstration chest and place that right there you’ll see this is full of a bunch of different items stackable and non-stackable all The non-stackables are going to go down here into this chest as you can see and then all the regular stackable items will go over here now as you can see occasionally a non-stackable will sneak its way through so you may need two of these right next to each other which Means that we do need to use the piston for the redstone torches now from my testing this one is very reliable and i haven’t seen any non-stackables end up in the overflow chest however if you’re playing on a laggy world you may need two three or even four of these right Next to each other just to catch every single non-stackable item building the non-stackable storage system is way easier than you might think all you need is your chest and hoppers behind them and of course your hopper line going across the top we’re gonna place a solid block right here and a comparator Reading directly from the hopper line this is going to go into a solid block a glass block right here and then a solid block it down in this location like so another solid block right there and then you can go ahead and put redstone dust On top of all of this if you just have a single stand-alone slice then all you need is a solid block and a redstone torch like so and bam that is your non-stackable item filter completely done if you want to build multiple of these next to each other then of course You’ll need your piston facing to the side and then your redstone torch and of course you’ll want your obsidian on the very end of this right here and that’s how you build all these standard single speed item filters and this is what it should look like once you have them all Tiled together as you can see with the ultra basic version the impulse version the bedrock overflow proof and then a water stream system as well that we’ll get to in a moment so for the basics of all these systems it is incredibly straightforward you literally build exactly what i showed you just right After one another one after another often to infinity as many times as you want we got the input and the output chest and if we put gold into there gold goes into the chest and then yeah that’s basically all there is to it same goes for the impulse system and the bedrock Version of it and then we have the water stream system a water stream system is a very good idea but you will have to contend with some bugs but this could save you some hoppers could save you some lag and could work way better depending on your specific situation so For this system as you can see we got all these different item filters down on the floor if we go ahead and throw items into all of these water streams right here that is going to get pushed right along this chest aligned above the ice blocks and the hoppers and then go into The item filters so as you see not a single one of these items is going to go into the overflow chest that we have here on the end and all of them are going to go into our chest down below setting this up is really simple just Put ice right next to where your filter hopper goes and then you want to encase that water stream with glass blocks or other forms of blocks you then want to make your items around a corner that way they go into a chest this chest is of course just basically right on the edge And then we have some glass panes to prevent the water from flowing off over the edge as you can see there the chest is very important for aligning the items correctly if you just throw the items into the water stream all willy-nilly they are not going to go into your Hoppers or they’ll land on them incorrectly and it’s going to break your system so you want them to go directly into a chest that’ll line them up properly and how you get them into a water stream it depends on what you’re doing you can use an auto dropper or Perhaps the farm that you’re using just automatically puts items into a water stream to begin with bug alert for 1.16.200 plus the water streams are not quite reliable and they are directional if you want to avoid a lot of frustration and if you want to build your system properly the first time Without rebuilding it or anything make sure to check out my recent bug rock of the week episode that’ll tell you exactly how and why things are directional how it is broken and how we can help get it fixed as a community moving on to advanced storage solutions with double speed and quadruple speed Item filters every single one of these is going to rely on a water stream to deliver the items to your item filters so make sure you are aware of the bugs in play with this kind of a system first of all we have a very basic double speed Item collection system no form of filtering it’s just a good way to collect items at double speed as you can see we can throw a stack of blocks in there it gets taken out really quickly and then put into the chest really quickly as well this is a very reliable System using a hopper pointing over to a hopper so this is pushing items into that one and then a hopper below which is sucking items out of that one so basically you get the action of two hoppers and a single slice and this could save you a lot of time with your Various farms that produce a lot of items our first double speed unloader is a very simple machine you will have either an ice stream and this location right here to align your items between this block or an ice stream right here to align your items between these two Blocks that means that you can read through the ice and that’ll make your system a little bit more compact there goes my sign and uh it really doesn’t matter what you do you can have it on this side or the other side if you like it just a little bit of customization to Your build whatever works for you how this works is this hopper with your filter is pushing items downwards whenever this gets more items in it that is going to extend the piston this hopper is going to be sucking items out of that and then pushing them into the Barrel this hopper is also going to be sucking items out of that one whenever it’s in this slot and that is essentially going to be draining items out of this at two times speed and pushing them downwards into your storage at two times speed as well to better Demonstrate that we can throw a whole bunch of items on two there and we’ll see them end up in this chest at two time speed our next one is very similar however this one is better because you can have one of these systems on either Side of your ice stream so you can have items aligned between these two blocks and you can have items aligned between these two blocks right here so you can have essentially like double you know the double speed item sorters which is very fun this relies on the same Mechanics as this design right here pushes down items this one collects them that pushes down items as this one collects them and sucks them out here that pushes it over and so on and so on that way you get double speed storage into your system we can demonstrate this By throwing items onto that hopper the entire system activates and your chest down here gets double the items very very quickly i would highly suggest building this system over the other one although this one does require a couple more hoppers to properly function if you’re wondering what your two time Speed unloaders look like when hooked up to a water stream as this is basically it we got all the different versions right here the one using the barrel just goes right on one side and of course that takes up all the space below the water stream as well using this one of Course you need to align all of your items to one side that’ll get picked up by your hopper and then load it into your system you can of course have these all directly next to each other it’s one wide tileable using the updated and improved two times unloader you can have One on either side of the water stream which is incredibly nice so you can have basically items going down the right side of the water and is the left side of the water too and both systems will work just fine now if you feel like it You can have a two two time speed unloaders going into a single double chest having two two time speed filters going into a single double chest is basically a four time speed system but without the use of hopper minecarts which is a pretty cool and nifty little System as you can see it is very very fast bug alert for one point sixteen point two hundred plus this is a really bad one that is going to affect all of the double speed and quad speed storage systems so be aware of it if you’re trying to build these in your world You’re gonna have to work around this one way or another this affects hoppers and hopper mine carts both of these are configured to only collect a gold because they are full of gold as you can see here if we throw gold on those they’re obviously gonna pick that up if We throw any other item in the game it’s not gonna pick that up obviously they’re full of gold the bug becomes an issue when you then have gold above the hopper as well basically the gold and any other item is going to be combined into a list Of items that the hopper is trying to pick up the hopper is only trying to pick up the first item in that list however so it’s never going to realize that it can also pick up that gold right there this is a really big issue for water stream sorting systems as most of The time you’ll have a bunch of different items and one big pile being flooded across your item filters and chances are your hopper is not going to pick up the items that you want if you want to see this bug fixed and if you want to have a really really nice double Speed and quad speed reliable sorters on the bedrock edition bug report link is down below upload that and leave any additional information on it that you may have moving on to the very very fast systems we have a four time speed item collection filter with a two time speed Storage down here below as you see it’s just two hoppers going into your storage chest so this hopper will get backed up occasionally which might not be a big deal depending on your situation this works because hopper minecarts collect items at four times regular hopper speed Regular hoppers are 9 000 items an hour hopper mine carts are 36 000 items an hour so it’s very very fast we are keeping the item filter inside of the hopper mine cart as is usual and then we’re detecting the signal from the hopper mine cart using a detector rail The rest of it is fairly straightforward but we’re also disabling this lower hopper mine cart using activator rails this is a very niche feature i was not aware of until we were designing this on a live stream one day but basically if you have a powered activator rail and Your hopper minecart is above it then it will not be able to pick up any items it is basically disabled and it’s a really really convenient use of mechanics for this particular type of storage as you can see if we remove the redstone torch bam it gets picked up instantly really Really awesome little feature that we’re taking advantage of in this build so if we go ahead and throw a stack of diamond blocks under there you’ll see that it’ll get collected really quickly all the items will go into the hopper mine cart and then they’ll go into the chest at Two times speed building this is very simple you simply put it directly underneath your water stream you don’t need any form of item alignment you can send them right down the middle no issues next up we have an upgraded version of the four time speed item filter with four times speed storage as Well as you can see this one relies on two hopper minecarts grabbing items from the filter cart and that puts them into the chest very very quickly as you can see there i’m not sure what farms or what applications you would use this for but it is worth noting it is not one Wide tileable you need a one block gap between each one of the filters this one requires a water stream as well but no item alignment you just throw the items right into the water stream doesn’t matter how they’ll get picked up now there’s also another version of the four Time speed filter with two times storage this definitely relies on a bug where hopper mine carts can pick up items so this car is picking up items from this guy even though it is not directly below it and i would not recommend building this one it is kind of cute and tiny but It definitely uses a bug and will break eventually and here’s the final product of what your four-time speed unloaders might look like when hooked up to a water stream it really is just about as simple as you would expect they go directly below the water stream no need For item alignment or anything like that they’ll just get picked up by the hopper minecarts it really is quite very straightforward and one final bug alert for today’s video hopper minecarts have their collection area offset to the southeasterly direction which can affect our filters and break them if you build Them in the wrong direction so this hopper mine cart down here in the bottom can pick up items from the south of minecarts and also pick up items from the east minecart it can now pick up items from the north or the west so the collection area is completely offset to The south easterly be very aware of this when building if you have any questions comments or concerns about these item filters then of course let me
