Snapshot 23w40a is out, the first snapshot for Minecraft 1.20.3. My name is slicedlime and I’m here to give you a tour of the changes in this snapshot. Let’s start with gameplay news, where shields now follow the direction you’re looking more closely In third person, so it is more easy to see if a player will block an arrow or not. There is a limit to how far up and down the shield can move visually. Shields now also protect you from hits from directly above and below. Some other smaller fixes have also happened With mending now correctly calculating the xp for the overflow when using up an XP orb. Nether portals now teleport with accurate sub-block precision even when out at very large coordinates and slime spawners now work correctly even outside of slime chunk spawning areas. In visual news, armor stands would create bubbles underwater as if they were drowning, that has been fixed in this version. The fire texture in the inventory view of a player on fire now renders in the right direction. And light and barrier particles now show up Properly even on minimal particle settings. In multiplayer news, operators who have joined a LAN game can no longer kick the host of the LAN world. And in Realms news, this snapshot includes new text strings and images that showcase that realms will become available for use in snapshots for players who have realms Starting with the next snapshot, 23w41a. Some technical news about blocks and items. Bee hive, bee nest and bell blocks now rotate correctly when loaded using structure blocks. And clocks and compasses now show the correct time and direction when used in display entities. The data pack version is now 19 to account for some formatting changes related to chat component serialization and new tags. The component change should not have a very large impact on existing commands or such – you can see the details on screen now. There are also new entity type tags in this version – first the convenience collection tags for Zombies and Undead but also a new tag controlling behavior: can_breathe_under_water. There’s also a new damage type tag: can_break_armor_stands, for damage that can knock down armor stands if applied multiple times in a row. Finally, there are some stability fixes including a fix for the game minimizing randomly when clicking in some areas of the screen when playing the game in full-screen mode on some mac computers. And that’s it for this version. Thank you for watching – my name is slicedlime and I’ll see you next time. Video Information
