Ladies and gentlemen a new snapshot is out. This one is a special one not part of any normal snapshot series, much like the combat update snapshot from a while ago. My name is slicedlime, I’m here as always to show you what has changed in this version! So what’s in this snapshot? – now, let’s get to the fun stuff! Of course this version includes all the things we’ve previously seen with the Caves & Cliffs preview pack – new world height and depths, new caves generation with noise caves and aquifers for both water and lava… but now the entrances are no longer flooded, so you Can find some pretty epic cave openings. Another difference is that in this version, lush caves and dripstone caves now spawn into the world which means you can find some huge lush caves and dripstone caves around. If you want a recap of all the cave news from the preview pack, check out my video on that, I’ll put a link to it in the description and in an I-card on the video. In this video we’ll focus on the things that are entirely new. But beyond the caves comes the really exciting part, this version introduces the new mountains with the five new biomes: lofty peaks, snowcapped peaks, mountain grove, mountain meadow and snowy slopes… but more than that, it changes how terrain generates entirely, introducing natural variation in terrain shape and elevation, independently from biomes. For example, forests and deserts could form up on a hill without needing a special biome just for that. You can clearly see this from the terrain we’re watching, with Badlands connecting up to mountains and deserts forming part of the foothills of mountains. You even have huge mountain ranges of deserts and badlands entirely without the new biomes. You can also see that rivers have changed, generating much more variety that sometimes even looks like lakes. There are some other big changes too, unrelated to the world generation. The new mobs now spawn in different places – Axolotls now only spawn in lush caves, and goats now only spawn in some of the new mountain biomes. Another big change is that hostile mob spawning now only happens in absolute darkness when it comes to block light. This means that for a mob to spawn, the block light at the location now needs to be 0 rather than anything below 7. So with that said, let’s talk about what this snapshot is. It is an experimental snapshot, which means it’s completely incompatible with the normal line of development. You won’t be able to open an old world in this snapshot, and worlds generated in this snapshot are not supported by the normal versions. That doesn’t mean Minecraft 1.18 won’t support opening old worlds once it is released, it only means this particular snapshot doesn’t. So go ahead and make a new world and try this snapshot out. Mojang is looking for feedback on all the things in here, and note especially that it is all experimental and subject to change. All the changes in this version could end up being changed again or even reverted. In order to give that feedback, head over to the reddit thread for this snapshot or to the Minecraft feedback site. While I appreciate comments here on this video as well, this isn’t where Mojang will be reading feedback so if you want your feedback to actually matter for the development of the game, make Sure to also post it either on reddit or the feedback site. One more thing to note is that the technical implementation of things in this snapshot are not representative how things are going to work. Among other things, this means that performance in this snapshot is going to be much worse Than what you would normally expect. Another aspect of that is that the bug tracker is not used for this snapshot. Now with all of that said, how do you get this snapshot and take it for a spin? Well, like I mentioned before it is a separate process and it needs a bit of manual installation. The first thing you’ll want to do is to close down any instances of the game and the Minecraft Launcher you have running. Then you’ll need to download a file – you can get that from the official post, but for convenience I’ll also link it in the video description. What you download is a zip archive, and you’ll need to extract that into a folder inside your minecraft folder. If you don’t know where your minecraft folder is, I’ll put a link in the description to a help page with instructions for how to find it for all the different system types. Anyway once you’ve found your minecraft folder, find the folder called versions inside it And extract the contents of the archive you downloaded there. Now start the Minecraft Launcher again, go to the Installations tab, make sure the Modded checkbox on the right is checked and create a new installation. In the settings for it, select the version you downloaded. If everything worked out, you should be able to find it near the top with a name starting with pending. Save the changes to the installation and launch it – the launcher will then download everything else you need… and enjoy the brand new experimental worlds! And with that, there’s one last piece of news in this post… and that is about the 1.18 snapshots. I keep getting questions about when 1.18 snapshots will start, and here’s the answer: regular 1.18 snapshots will likely start around September. So that’s it – a huge change to minecraft world generation is coming your way… go explore! And that’s it for this time. Thank you for watching to the end of the video. If you want to help out the video and my channel, please consider interacting with the video Somehow – likes, comments and shares all help out in getting YouTube to show the video to people, so I do appreciate it. If you’re interested in all the changes to Minecraft Java Edition then please also consider subscribing to the channel. I make update videos for every new snapshot, pre-release, release candidate and full release of the game… and if you do, don’t forget to also hit the bell to get notified when new videos are out! Anyway that’s all for now! My name is slicedlime, thank you for watching and I’ll see you next time. Video Information
