Hello my name is Phil and I’ll be your guy today as you know we all need to learn about cyber security and threats like hacking and fishing today we are going to explore One Challenge you might face online my name is Callum McKenzie and I’m a grade 5 6 teacher here at St George Catholic School I was able to bring two teams to Toronto for a Minecraft provincial Esports Championship my name is Phelan and I’m in grade six I go to St George School in Ottawa this is my team we won the Minecraft Esports provincial challenge in Toronto this is the medal we won After coming first place here at the Ottawa Catholic School Board a big Focus for the past few years has been deep learning as much as we see that in our classrooms and we’re developing that and our students there it’s really evident in our Sports and are now hopefully our Esports teams as well we’ve run Minecraft Club at lunch recesses for the past few years it’s a great way to teach our kids to work together collaborate and communicate this year has been eye-opening and how we can bring play into the classroom as well as use traditional means so it’s Kind of finding that nice balance between the two my name is Benjamin I’m in grade five from St George I would describe Minecraft and Esports as a collaborative way to express yourself Esports is video games but in a a competitive nature when we went to Toronto and Microsoft Headquarters there were four builds and each build you would be marked out of 56. as we got deeper into the competition around the third or fourth round we started thinking wow we really used our abilities to the best that we could then the top two teams would be Announced and the winner would win and that happened to be us it was a huge moment of Pride to see that all of our hard work and all the sacrifices they made at the recesses paid off our team I think was really good with talking to each other and bouncing ideas Off each other one of the challenges we encountered was some of our team members got quite stressed out so the people that weren’t so stressed out would go over and like help the person and make sure and be like all right it’s okay we got this the school board the school Community Mr McKenzie our own team we were really I feel just supportive of each other I feel very supported by Mr McKenzie it definitely helped us to progress in the challenge one of the things that motivates them the most is that they get to play video games at school they also Got to see that even though they’re playing video games it has a real world value they have to communicate to be successful they all have their own ideas but they have to come together we were sitting in these orange chairs eating our pizza talking about how lucky We were to get here we discovered the value of hard work I just got to work with people that I wouldn’t normally have had the ability to work with I wanted to see what I could do when I was really pushing myself we’re saying Georgian we’re gonna win this if we can Really go this far than how far can we go after foreign Video Information

Two teams from St. George Elementary School from the Ottawa Catholic School Board, comprised of grade 5 and 6 students, qualified for the Minecraft Provincial eSport’s Championship Finals held at Microsoft headquarters in downtown Toronto. The competition hosted 23 teams from all over Ontario. St. George’s team’s trip to Toronto was a success! The kids took to heart the importance of hard work and had their efforts rewarded as they achieved first and fourth place.
