Hello everyone my name is Pixar riffs and welcome to the first episode of season three of the Minecraft Survival Guide we are here in Minecraft 1.20 the trails and tales update which has just been released at the time of this recording and we’re going to take this series into future versions to explore Everything Minecraft has to offer we’re going to start out by clicking on single player here we are going to head over to the world Tab and paste in the seed for the world that we picked out in episode 0 where I discussed how to find the Ideal world seed for you we don’t want to tamper with any of the game rules and settings we’re going to leave everything here on the defaults so that’s all good we’ll head over to the game menu here and we will just give this world a name we’re going to call it Minecraft Survival Guide 3. for now we’re going to leave the difficulty on normal we will change that to hard a little bit later in the series once we’ve adjusted to what Minecraft’s survival gameplay is like we aren’t going to enable cheats either so the cheats are going to stay Off and we won’t be able to access admin commands change to creative or spectator mode or anything like that we are going to keep this game mode in survival this isn’t going to be a hardcore world we will be able to respawn and continue in the same world I think that covers Everything so let’s click create new world and I’ll see you folks once the world has loaded up okay here we are at our spawn point and the first thing we want to do is find a tree and punch it by holding down the left click button Once we’ve got a hold of the first wood log there it is we’re going to punch the rest of the tree down the leaves will start to Decay once the tree has been fully knocked down once no wood logs are making contact with the leaves and supporting them so we should get a Decent amount of wood out of this tree and that will give us what we need to craft our first tools once the leaves Decay they might also drop some sticks or saplings so pick up any of that and take it with you if you happen to get any now we’ll open our inventory Pressing e we’ll go into the crafting grid here and place the logs in one corner so that we can get hold of some planks where you’re going to turn all of those into planks pick them up using left click and hold right click to drag them into a square shape which will give Us a crafting table if you place it in the world with right click that gives you access to the 3X3 crafting grid which is where you can make your first Tools in this case we’re going to turn two planks into sticks we’re going to turn two sticks and three planks into a Wooden pickaxe and we’re going to use that to gather some Stone from this nearby Cliff here we can just hop down onto this ledge we can hold down left click on these until they drop Cobblestone and we are entering the Stone Age we get an advancement for Making that little bit of progress we’ll talk about advancements in a future episode for now we will right click on the crafting table and craft a stone pickaxe that’s going to work a lot faster than the wooden one it has slightly more durability and it’s capable of harvesting more things so We’re going to make our first real tool set out of more Cobblestone I think I’m going to start out by gathering about 15 or so Cobblestone using the stone X we’ve also got a bit of coal appearing here so we should probably Harvest that while we can okay with 15 Cobblestone That should be enough for us to get started we’ll make a few more sticks out of these Oak planks and we can make ourselves an ax by crafting that like so and we can also make a shovel and that will be the tools that we need to start Traversing the world here axes are really good at chopping down wooden things so we can use that to pick up our crafting table faster than punching it and we can also take down a few trees here we’ll grab as much wood as we feel like we safely can starting with these Oak trees but we’ll also grab a little bit of the birch wood from around here as well and any saplings that you pick up in the process you can replant if you’d like the tree to regrow there or you can take them with you so they can Regrow these trees wherever you end up let’s find an isolated birch tree to chop down like this one yeah this one should be fine we’ll grab the logs from this we might get a couple of birch saplings if we wait long enough but the problem with waiting around is that the Sun is moving overhead and once it gets to night time monsters are going to start to spawn so we have two options we can either craft a bed using wood planks and wool from sheep or we can make ourselves a shelter and we should also probably think about getting some food So in just a second I’m going to use this x to kill that kale by jumping and tapping left click with the ax as you’re coming down from the jump you deal a critical hit which should be able to take out a cow nice and easily there are Bees in this Forest as well which is kind of cool let’s see if we can grab a little bit more wood from our surroundings I want to have plenty of birch wood and wood is something that you’ll pretty much always need in Minecraft so you can never really have Too much of it once we’ve chopped down this tree I think we’re going to make our way over this River and we’re going to explore the plane’s biome over here since that seems like a good place to encounter some sheep that might give us the wool we need to craft the bed across The river we can hop up onto the opposite Bank taking note of some of the caves that we encounter along the way because we might be back there to mine for resources a little bit later and hopefully as we reach this plane’s biome which starts to segue into a meadow I Can see a few sheep on the meadow slopes there but I really want to head in this direction because that’s the direction of the mountain that I pointed out in the previous episode where we picked out this world seed and I said I really want to start building around the base of That mountain as we explore the planes I’m also on the lookout for other animals that I can use for some nice easy food so we’re going to take out this pig with a couple of TAPS of the ax that will drop some pork chops which are also very effective food in the early Stages of the game there on the hillside in the path that we are traveling I can see a few sheeps so hopefully there should be three of those around that we can use to grab some wool you can she a sheep if you have some iron to make Shears but right now we are just going to kill these three they will drop one wool each and three wool and three planks is all you need to craft a bed so if we need to skip the night we are fully capable of doing that now but just In case you end up not finding three sheep I am going to do a quick bit of building so that we can make ourselves our first night shelter it’s all about surviving the first night so I feel like whatever we find here we should probably still build a house regardless to do That I’m gonna hop up onto this Ridge here and I think we will build a house right here this seems like a good place to do that I’m gonna open my inventory and break all of these birch logs down into planks by shift left clicking them so so that everything becomes Planck so We’re going to do the same with the oak planks we’re going to probably get some more logs a little bit later so we don’t need to worry too much about that for now and we’ll create I want to say a five block wide house like this so the Interior is going to be a little bit smaller but we want to create a five block wide maybe seven block long house for now we’re going to make the walls three blocks tall it looks like we have a little bit of dirt at the front here But that’s fine we can deal with that in a minute you can place blocks slightly Faster by holding down right click and just looking at the area you want to place the blocks we’ll use our Stone shovel to dig out all of this dirt the shovel is the most effective tool for Dealing with dirt and grass so we can remove that from our house and we’ll put a block either side there we’ll open this up so that we can create a door and we’ll place a door here we can craft the door in the crafting table using six Planks of any kind we can make a birch door or I think we might settle for an oak door this time around it’ll actually make three of those so you can use them later if you want to let’s break this dirt block here put in an oak plank Because we’ll be making the floor out of those and we’ll place our door in there and now we are fairly sheltered it seems unlikely that most hostile creatures will be able to get in here the exception is spiders which can climb walls so we do want to make sure there Is a roof over our heads and I’m going to do that by turning these Birch planks into slabs by placing them in a crafting table in a row like this if I make 18 slabs that should hopefully be enough to put a roof of slabs over our heads and We’ve made our first little box house it is unfortunately a little bit dark in here or it’s a little dull maybe so if we want to create a torch to light the place up we can make some sticks and add our single piece of coal to that which Will create four torches we can place that inside and now it feels comfortable and cozy and we can work on the interior of our house as the sun goes down over this beautiful Cherry Grove mountain and to remove these dirt blocks from the walls we’re going to get the Birch Planks out and we’re going to fill in that wall like so we can dig out the floor below us and make that out of Oak planks so that’ll feel nice and cozy now that the sun has gone down we might start to see a few monsters popping up Around our door but that should be fine as long as the door is closed even though there’s a window in here the monsters shouldn’t be able to see us right clicking on the crafting table we’re going to drag this Cobblestone into a circle so that we can make a Furnace and that will allow us to cook some of the meat that we’ve acquired to refill our hunger bar since we’ve started to get a little hungry here I’m going to put the beef in there we’re going to put a few planks in as fuel if You’ve got more than one coal you can always use the coal for this as well once we have that we can Chow Down on some steak dinner and we are nice and full again meaning that if we need to run away from any monsters if we need to Sprint around then we can and it’s worth taking a quick look outside to see that yes creepers and skeletons zombies and spiders have started to spawn at night while we are in here I will show you how to craft a bed we’ve got some planks and Some wool right here so we can drag those into three block strips like that we end up with a white bed and if you want to you can Brave going outside to collect a flower that you can use to turn that into dye and dye your bed a Different color I’m going to go with the traditional Minecraft red bed so we’re going to grab this poppy right here by breaking it we’re going to take that back inside so we don’t end up with any creepers or anything sneaking up on us we’ll break the poppy down into red dye And we can combine that with the white bed in our crafting interface to have a red bed that I’m going to place over here it’ll need two blocks worth of space so don’t try and place it right against the wall and if we right click On this bed we will get the sweet dreams advancement and we will sleep for the night skipping through the night and waking us up right when Dawn happens at this point if we step outside our house you will notice that all of the undead Monsters the skeletons and zombies have Started to burn in the sunlight and if you stay away from them they will safely burn but it looks like the zombie has found me so we get a quick zombie fight oh no he’s just burnt to death in front of me not to worry spiders will also Become passive in the the daytime so you don’t need to worry about being attacked by them the one thing you should be wary of is creepers which do not burn in the sunlight since they are not really Undead monsters and they will start walking towards you so a good strategy For them is to tap them and then back away or turn and run immediately because they will explode if they stand close to you for too long no worries though we were able to successfully take down that creeper we got ourselves some Gunpowder and we got the advancement Monster Hunter for defeating our first hostile monster there might still be a couple of other hostile monsters around during the daytime if they’ve managed to find some shade to stand in like this skeleton has looks like another skeleton has died nearby there are some bones and arrows on the ground and skeletons are ranged Archers who will start to fire arrows at you so you can Bob and weave a little bit once they step out into the sunlight they will start to burn and a single tap of the ax was enough to take care of that one hopefully all of that Information should be enough for you to survive your first night in Minecraft stick around for the rest of the video and we’ll discuss how to make our humble Shack here a little bit more visually appealing and explore a bit of the environment around us hey folks welcome back so we’re going to Do a little bit of decoration to this house it was very functional for our first night but I think we can do a little bit better visually speaking so I’m going to go into here I’m going to use my crafting table to turn a bunch of these Oak planks into stairs you can Also open up the recipe book to find the recipes for anything you can craft with the resources that are on your inventory or any other recipes you already know for example we couldn’t make a block of coal if we had nine coal but as you can See from this we don’t so we’re going to click the showing all toggle that to showing craftable and it will show us all of the stuff we can make with the wood and Cobblestone that we have in our inventories we’re going to use that to Make some Oak stairs and if you see it cycling through different types of material if you right click on that and then click on the type of material you want to you’ll be able to do that without having to quickly click on things before they cycle over to the Next thing and suddenly you’re making Birch stairs we’re going to make a few sets of Oak stairs I think so we’ll grab maybe like 2 20 of these and what I want to do is make this into a kind of maybe Viking looking A-Frame house so we’re Going to place some stairs in this kind of alternating pattern like so forming a staircase and an inverted staircase that’s going to frame the door quite nicely we’ll put an inverted stair directly above the door like that since that’s the middle point of the house and above that we’re going to cross this Back over like so and we’ll do the same pattern on the opposite side starting one block out from the house and there we go that’s created a stylish entrance to our house that makes it look a little bit better than just a simple Birch Shack although on second thoughts maybe We’ll make that one block wider so I’m going to take down all of these stairs and we’re going to try and experiment with the Aesthetics here of course our second day has already begun and it’s already about midday so we need to be aware of when the sun is about to go Down all we need to do is pop into our house and sleep again and we don’t need to worry about the monsters coming out after all let’s start our little staircase like so and this time it’s going to be a bit taller because we we started a block further out yeah I like That a lot more in fact we can probably bring some of the rest of the house in line it’s rare that I do this much editing on a very basic starter house but I kind of like the shape of this one I made a few more slabs so that we can Try and decorate the roof in a sort of consistent way that lines up with the front of the house and we’ll add this stair pattern to the back of the house as well there we go I’ve given it a bit of a roof pitch that lines up with the Top parts of the stairs up there and that already looks a lot better to me so let’s make some more Oak stairs and we’ll decorate the back as well that should look pretty good we could even make a back door here if we wanted to and it kind of looks like it’s and Dangling out in the open a little bit here so we’ll use the dirt that we gathered from the inside to kind of shore this up and make it look like it’s actually standing flat on the ground so you can terraform a little bit if you Want to but there we go it’s not exactly a long house but we could call this our Viking short house I suppose now on the inside let’s rearrange things a little bit we can pick up the furnace and rotate it and that’s going to drop some experience because we finished cooking The meat we’ll place that next to the bed here just so it’s facing outwards so we can see the furnace when it is operating and you know what we’ll cook this raw mutton as well we need to turn that into some usable food I’m also quickly going to craft a chest using These leftover Oak planks we’ll click that out of the interface and drop that down over here and that’s going to store anything that we don’t want to carry around with this in our inventories so the Gunpowder the bones bits and pieces like that we could put our oak sapling In here as well we don’t have a bow yet so we might save the arrows for later and any miscellaneous blocks and items that you’re not using right now can be safely stored in this chest and collected later looks like night time is approaching once again so I’m going to Sleep and see if I can sleep before any of the monsters actually spawn outside in the night once we’re out of bed we can check outside and yep it looks like we’re in the clear oh there’s a couple of zombies and skeletons burning in the sunlight But for the most part it seems like things around here are pretty safe as promised I want to take a look around at the rest of the environment here let’s see what’s over this Ridge do we have a little Basin with some sunflowers very nice we have some wood nearby as well so If we wanted to get any more Birch if you ran out of birch to build the uh short house over here then we can probably get some more Birch from around there it’s even a little flower forest look there’s a few tulips growing around here and that gives you access to a Variety of different colored dyes without even having to know the combinations that create different dice we’ve got a bee nest here as well so we could Farm some bees a little bit later if we wanted to some alliums are growing that will get you the more purple and Magenta dyes this actually looks like quite a nice little Valley between some mountains which I really like I think this location turned out very very nice the hillside here ramps out up into a meadow biome which you can find a single type of flower growing in you’ll often Find donkeys and sheep and rabbits spawning up here as well and that leads up to a snowy slope of sorts up here there’s a couple of rabbits frolicking in the meadow and if you have to cross a mountain at any point you should really beware of this we’ve got some powder Snow here which is pretty dangerous if you fall into it so we want to avoid that if we possibly can the trick to spotting that is that there aren’t any snow layers forming on top of it and the texture looks a little bit crispy it’s got some different colored pixels in There that will give you a hint that it’s not just regular snow we have another planes biome with a bunch of horses down that way and I expect if we travel a bit further south the planes are going to flatten out until we find an ocean at our feet let’s see if I’m Right about that keep in mind that if you think you’re going to be away from your house for more than a day you can always bring your bed with you although the bed is also what we use to reset our spawn point which I’ll demonstrate briefly if you right click on that even During the day it will tell you that your respawn Point has been set there so if you die you will lose anything that’s in your inventory that’ll get scattered on the ground and you’ll have to go and pick it up again but you will respawn in The safety of your own home if you want to you can bring the bed with you to sleep through the night out in the wilderness although bear in mind that if you break your bed again if you die without a spawn point set you’ll return to the world spawn point which is back There in the forest by the beach that I showed you earlier there are still a few cows around here that I might start farming in the next episode so we’re not going to kill any of those just yet even though they would be a useful source of Food there we go we have a little river valley there and that seems to widen out towards the end of this little section into an ocean and there might be an ocean over there as well or that might be another River tributary of sorts and it looks like there are some pretty Scary sinkholes around here so I guess we’re finding a few places we could potentially go caving but once you’ve got established once you have a house and a bed and everything it’s always a good idea to explore the area around you and see what you like about your Minecraft world see if there’s somewhere else that you would rather set up your house or whether you’re happy where you are and you want to continue building there really already I can see that mountain and its cherry trees as being a really useful Landmark for finding my Way home and that’s also one of the reasons I wanted to find a mountain like this or some kind of really cool Landmark that was going to be iconic in the Minecraft Survival Guide it’s really so that we can find our way back to our house easier if we need to scramble for A bed when night is about to fall but I’m home I’m gonna snack on some steak and we’re going to end the episode there it’s been a pretty successful one we’ve got our first house set up we have survived the first couple of nights we Are able to make a bed so that we can skip the night easily whenever we want to and we’ve got a stylish if kind of small little starter house maybe we’ll do something about that in future episodes for now thank you so much for
