Hello everyone my name is pixariffs and welcome to the first episode of the minecraft survival guide season two i hope you’re all having a good day we’re gonna get started right away here by punching the nearest tree wood is one of the most important things in minecraft You’re going to need it throughout your entire minecraft world even once you get more advanced and have all of the tools and armor you could want wood is still going to be a very important block to us so we’re going to be grabbing this to start off with we need to make a Crafting table and a few wooden tools and from there we’ll start exploring the world around us so i’m gonna pop that in my crafting interface make all of the wood into planks make the first four into a crafting table and a few more into sticks and we should have Everything we need to get started we’ll put the crafting table down because this gives us a 3×3 crafting grid from which the recipe book can show us all of the stuff that we’re able to craft with our wood items here and we’re going to make our first wooden pickaxe we are then Going to pick this up and move somewhere else because you can make other wooden tools but they’re not especially efficient they can’t break all of the blocks that we need at the start of the game here and i think it’s going to be a little bit more fun if we get started With some stone tools which are slightly faster and it looks like this cave here on the beach has exactly what we want so we’ll grab three stone here breaking the stone we’ll turn it into cobblestone and that’s what we need to craft our tools so we’ll grab a stone pickaxe we’ll use That to get a little bit more stone and you’ll already be able to tell that it’s slightly faster at gathering up the rest of the cobblestone from around here so we’re going to gather maybe 20 or so that should be enough to get hold of our First set of stone tools maybe a furnace as well and hopefully after that we’ll be able to find a place that we can stay for the night the first few minutes of a new minecraft world are usually all about getting geared up with your stone Tools we’re going to make a stone x to start off with so that we can chop down a few more trees break our crafting table faster that kind of thing the ax is basically the tool that it’s most efficient to use on anything made of wood including the crafting table right There so with that we’re going to chop down a few more trees and the idea now is we’re gathering as many materials as we can in order to make a shelter and hopefully survive our first night of course once you’re a bit more experienced with minecraft i would Recommend killing a couple of sheep if you see them nearby gathering enough wool that you can make a bed and skipping through the first couple of nights because if you sleep in a bed you don’t need to worry about the night too much at all but for the start of this World here i always think it’s a fun rite of passage kind of thing to survive your first night see what the night does on the first night see what monsters spawn out there and give yourself a fighting chance at playing minecraft the old old-school way before you end up Getting a little bit further into the game now we’re going to take a couple of these pumpkins that are here by the side of this kind of lake area as well we’re going to grab those and we’re going to look around for another place to set up I kind of want to look for a cave around here it doesn’t look like there are many caves in this terrain it looks fairly flat for right now and we’re heading out into a birch forest over here so that should be a nice place to start i’m gonna look for anything that’s Potentially going to make a shelter that i don’t need to spend too much time on we’ve got a ridge of stone over here it looks like it might be possible to set up somewhere around here and a bit of an overhang which might contain a couple of resources from the Looks of things yeah we’ve got some iron up there already we’ve got some coal i expect there will be some other materials around here this looks pretty good i think we’re gonna hop on down here taking a little bit of full damage as we go but nothing major And we’ve got yeah a really nice overhang here and and it looks like there’s a creeper at the bottom of that so we’re going to ignore that for now and maybe look around some of the other caves in the area just in case they’ve got any useful resources in them This one here doesn’t seem to and there is a little gully over here which is full of creepers okay we might avoid that for now then but i’m thinking we need to look around a little bit further and see if yep there’s there’s clearly monster noises happening all over the Place right now let’s see if we can find some place to hang out maybe get ourselves set up here and there’s a lot of overhang terrain around here but it doesn’t seem like there are going to be many easy caves so we might have to return to that spot a little bit later In the meantime i’m looking around for animals as well and so these chickens being here means that with a couple of swift taps of the axe we can dispatch those get hold of some raw chicken and we’ll be able to use that as food when we need to regenerate our hunger and our Health let’s take out the rest of these chickens here we’ll probably end up breeding some chickens a little bit later but for now in a single player world especially it’s fine to take them out we don’t need to worry too much about preserving the animals around here They will just end up reappearing a little bit later anyway let’s take out the cows while we’re at it as well because those will provide raw beef which once it’s cooked is probably one of the best food sources in the game so we’ll grab some of these and just admire The landscape for now we’ll need to figure out a place to stay but for the moment it’s kind of cool to look at some of this new terrain minecraft 1.18 has changed a lot about the way terrain generates so a lot of these worlds are Going to feel a little bit fresh and new even to experienced players so even for me it’s kind of fun looking around the environment seeing what has changed what is different and what surprises lie around every corner this little hollow down here has a couple of birch trees in It but not really any kind of caves to speak of let’s go and take a look at that cave area that we found back here and see if any of those pesky creepers have despawned and will let us use this environment for our own purposes so this right here was our overhang and Looking at the cave right now there’s still a couple of creepers in there but i don’t see the other one down here okay perfect let’s set up right here and while the coal is currently up there in the ceiling i’m going to make some charcoal first we’re going to craft our Cobblestone into a furnace and using some of the wood that we’ve got on us i might actually take down some of these birch trees and smelt those into charcoal because once we have a little bit of charcoal we can use that to make torches light up this area and prevent More monsters from spawning in it later on we’re just going to use one plank for now to smelt those birch logs the first one will turn into charcoal and charcoal is a much more efficient fuel one piece of charcoal or coal will end up smelting Eight items so we can use that to get a few more pieces of charcoal made and then it kind of becomes self-sustaining after that speaking of self-sustaining stuff don’t worry too much about cutting down some trees in your early days there are plenty of trees around and they can Always be replanted once the leaves of the trees drop saplings we can see a birch sapling up here all we need to do is grab a couple of those as they fall we can replant those the tree will grow in exactly the same spot if we want it To or we can choose other spots for the birch trees to grow so we might put one here for example over the roof of this cave now we should have some charcoal waiting for us in the furnace that’s perfect we’ll put a couple more logs in There so that it will make the rest of the charcoal that it can we’ll take that out and we’ll turn a couple of sticks into torches and from there we should be able to light up this area so that it doesn’t produce any enemies i’m thinking we might use this little cave entrance Up here for our first night so we’ll quickly put a torch down in here that should be enough actually to light up the rest of this area and make sure it is safe from mob spawns for now we’re going to hop into the cave here take a Quick look around in case there are any enemies lurking in the shadows but it doesn’t look like there are we’ll just put a few torches down in here and any areas that look like they are within the radius of a torch can be protected from monsters spawning we might need to put a Couple more back here i think that will probably do i think maybe one more at the entrance here but we should be fairly spawn proofed against monsters since this is an important detail for people who are returning to the game i’ll cover this now minecraft mob spawning has changed Slightly in update 1.18 and now the entire radius of an area lit up by a torch will be safe from hostile mob spawns previously you’d only get about halfway out of the radius before mobs would start to spawn but now any block that is lit up by any light source Being a torch or something else is going to be safe from mob spawns mobs only spawn in complete darkness so that’s something that’s very useful to know as we set up for our first night i think we’re also going to place a couple of torches around the area here just so we Have a little bit of a safe area around the front of this cave because this cave right here is going to be where we stay for our first night i might even venture into this cave now where it looks like the creepers have either despawned or Wandered off i’m going to put down a couple of torches here and it looks like we have some coal around the corner as well i think we’re going to risk getting this now even though night is falling outside let’s grab a little bit more of this coal and it’s going to work Functionally exactly the same as charcoal but it’s just nice to have an abundant supply of this so we don’t have to use all of our wood on that in the early days we also get to mine up a bit of coal which we can use to smelt things We can cook the food with it and it’s just going to be useful to have for the foreseeable future i’m going to leave the rest of that coal there though i don’t always mine every single block of resources when i find them and as you can see it’s getting dark outside so Let’s hop up the cliff here into our little hidey hole and i think we’ll do a quick bit of decoration to make sure that this area is protected and monsters can’t just wander into our cave so we’ll grab the crafting table real quick we’ll grab this furnace over here as well and I’m not seeing or hearing any monsters around us right now so it looks like we’re going to do okay we’ll hop up into here maybe a couple of blocks into the cave we’re going to block off the entrance like so use as little of our wood as possible just to make sure that It’s nice and safe in here we’re going to put down a crafting table and we’re going to craft ourselves a door i think while we do that we’ll put some food on to cook so we’ll put some raw beef in there with a piece of charcoal and all Of that should smelt down into lovely cooked steak that we can use to refill our hunger as it diminishes we’ll break down some more logs into planks we’ll use six of those planks to craft some doors we get three doors each time and i think if we carve out this Little block here that’s going to make our doorway i like making oak doors on the first night since they have this transparency in them that allows you to see outside which not all wooden doors do so depending on the wood you start off with you might end up having a Completely opaque door and not being able to see outside that’s why i tend to go for oakwood over the others in the early days while we’ve got a little bit of time here because we need to wait 10 minutes for the sun to rise again let’s Carve out a few more blocks of this cave use the time to gather a little bit more stone and see if there are any precious resources in the area that we can use we’re looking for more coal we’re potentially looking for a little bit of iron like we saw in the cave opposite And it also helps us carve out a little bit of space here in the cave in case we want to do anything in terms of storage i’m hearing skeletons rattling in the walls they sound like they might be in a nearby cave but don’t worry if we’re all Sealed in here there’s nothing they can really do to harm us it looks like the rest of my steak has finished cooking so i’m going to grab some of that hold down right click to eat it and we’re all full again perfect now we won’t get hungry For a little while and we can use some more of these planks to create a chest where we can store some of the things we’ve acquired so far let’s turn eight of those planks into a chest like so we’ll pop that over here by the door so we’ve got some nice easy accessible Storage and in here we’re going to put some of the miscellaneous items we’ve acquired like the pumpkins maybe the feathers since we’re not doing anything with those yet i’m going to smelt the rest of this food as well we’re going to cook the rest of the raw chicken so that That becomes edible as well and i think the rest of this is stuff that we can keep in our inventory maybe we’ll leave the charcoal here just in case but i think outside of that we should be fine let’s make a few more torches since we Are now running low on those and we’ll turn these planks into sticks as well so that we can use those if we need them so while we’re waiting out the night i should explain a little bit about how i’m organizing my inventory because some people might be a little bit confused About why my shovel is all the way over here and why the food is all the way over here when you need easy access to it and how i organize my hotbar is something that i’ve sort of developed personally through my experience with minecraft your mileage may vary it’s Kind of up to you how you organize your items but i’ll take you through it so you understand a little better when i’m controlling minecraft using was d i prefer to have the most useful items to me at one two and three which is usually Going to be some torches so i can light up an area and make it spawn proof a pickaxe so i can break blocks easily because a lot of the blocks in the game are broken by a pickaxe and then my primary weapon which is going to be a Stone axe in this case until i decide to craft a sword and i might as well craft a stone sword now even though in terms of attack damage the stone sword is a little bit weaker than a stone axe the axe is slower but deals heavier damage The sword is faster but deals a little bit less damage and it’s also important to know that axes can take a little bit of extra hits of durability if you use them for attacking so we’re going to swap that out for a sword and like i said that goes in the primary weapon Space which for me is slot number three after that i like to have my axe and my shovel nearby simply because they’re the tools that i’ll use to break other blocks in the environment and it’s useful to have those on your hotbar i would also reserve a slot here for a bow But we don’t have the materials to craft one of those yet so i’m going to leave that alone for now but the accent shovel will be needed less urgently if all we’re doing is breaking blocks in the environment typically you don’t need to break wood or dirt or sand or anything Like that in a big hurry and if you do it’s easy enough to just scroll to those inventory slots using the scroll wheel the food is all the way down here because a lot of the time i’ll have torches in my hands to make sure i’m going around and lighting stuff up and It’s easy enough to just scroll up one to get to that number nine slot over there so even though that’s further away from my hand when i’m using the wasd keys i can stay maneuverable and still just use the scroll wheel to scroll between them hopefully that makes sense But obviously hotbar organization is a matter of personal preference and i’m sure you’ll find your own preferred way of organizing your hotbar that works for you so i’m reorganizing the cave a little bit here just digging out a little bit more space in case we want to Make some more storage here or in case there were some precious resources hiding behind the walls in the process of that i have created a lot of cobblestone and from that we can make a few other things we can make a stone hoe if we want to start farming crops but I’ll probably get onto that in the next episode when we go looking for crops and animals outside of that we can craft the cobblestone into a variety of different blocks and we’re going to start by doing that with some stairs we’re going to make four stairs out of six blocks of Material we’re also going to make some slabs here and we’ll probably use those to decorate the outside of our little hidey hole the question is do i dare venture out into the night there’s a skeleton on a ledge directly opposite but if we come out of here nice and Slowly it doesn’t look like he’s seen me and i’ve actually been talking for long enough that the sun is rising over there so hopefully we should be able to make a go of it let’s maybe widen this out a little bit more we might bring a couple More planks in here so that we can make this look a little bit more home like there we go we’ll keep some of the overhang but i think what we want to do is create a little doorstep of sorts here maybe we’ll do a three slab Doorstep so that we can step up to our front door nice and easily and then down the outside here we’ll create a little cobblestone staircase like that so that we can walk down easily in the morning and it’s a little bit easier to get up And down from our hidey hole here now i think i’ll probably open out this a little bit more as well just so we can see a nice wooden frame around our door and i want to make a couple of little aesthetic touches here and there so how About we carve a little bit more stone out of this overhang so that we can see a little bit better and maybe we’ll put a wooden frame around the outside of this pop a window in here or something like that that seems like a good way to Wrap up this first episode with a little bit of home improvement so of course while it’s the most efficient use of our logs to break them down into planks because they give us four planks per block so we can get more blocks out of that it’s also quite nice to build with Logs occasionally just for aesthetics so i think what i’m going to do is put some logs up the side here maybe we’ll have them come in one block like that and then along the side here which is not the most efficient use of the materials but there we go we’ll have this nice Little rounded off doorway to look at and we’ll put that there maybe we can put a little lamp post or something outside the front of it and we just need something to go in here for the window i think maybe we’ll put some planks in the Wall there as well to make it look like the entire wooden frame wraps around and now it is daytime hopefully any mobs will be gone and we can make our way out and try and find something useful we’re gonna try and avoid that skeleton for now because he’s got a good position up There they they have bows they can attack you from range and he’ll be able to snipe me if i’m not careful so instead maybe we will hop up here and see what’s up there’s nothing much going on in here it looks like another little Cave on the top of this hill and yeah a little bit of coal there to our right a little bit of copper in the roof as well you’ll notice i’m ignoring a lot of the precious resources that i could be collecting for now because i do want to Take this guide one step at a time i don’t want to overwhelm everybody with information right off the bat and there will be an episode tomorrow where we get into some of this other stuff so i was hoping to find some sand that we could turn into glass but i think for Now what i’m going to do is hop back up here and we’ll make a fence window instead of using glass so with that we can just craft a few more sticks with our planks here we’ll make a couple more planks as well and then two planks Either side and two sticks in the middle we’ll make three oak fences and we can put one of those in this little spot here and it makes the perfect window for us to look out of let a little bit more light into the house as well and i think For a starter house we could be doing a lot worse we could oh there we go nope the skeleton has taken notice of us and he’s reminding us that we need to be a little bit more careful when we step outside our front door we’re gonna have To do something about him in the meantime i’m gonna do something about this frame here we are going to open it out just a little bit so that we can get take full advantage of seeing the entirety of our house maybe we’ll leave something like a stone stair right there So it looks a little bit cobbled together it’s a little bit of a stone shack right now but i think this place is looking nice for our first night and so this is really the essence of minecraft it’s about finding what you want to do with the world around you and Avoiding the dangers or potentially confronting the dangers head-on we could go and attack that skeleton right now but i think i’m going to ignore it for the moment instead it looks like my pickaxe is getting low on durability and this is typically going to happen sometime on your first day or two once You’ve started mining out a few more of the resources the durability on your pickaxe will get down low enough that eventually it’ll break we’ve got six durability left so if i mine out six more stone you’ll notice the graphic bar basically disappears entirely and then eventually that tool will break that’s Not a problem though because we’ve gathered up enough cobblestone and we’ve got enough wood that we can just get ourselves another stone pickaxe and we’ll just keep crafting tools until we get some tools which are more durable and are going to last for the duration we’ll stash some of these other building Blocks in here like the door for example we won’t really need that right now likewise the slabs and other bits and pieces can go in there and at this point our inventory is starting to fill up with some of the more essential things like wood and cobblestone i think we’ll Make a couple more torches since it’s always nice to have some of those let’s finish off the sticks that are in our inventory and now we can step out pretty prepared to take on day two but that is where we’re going to leave it for this episode of the minecraft survival guide From humble beginnings will come a pretty exciting adventure and i hope you’re enjoying being along for the ride i hope your first night went well let me know
