For many years esports have been getting more popular and more mainstream with insane prize pools of millions and millions of dollars and meanwhile minecraft the biggest video game of all time doesn’t have a place in the esports scene but i think it could in this video I’m gonna go over who esports are and what i think minecraft esports could and should be also make sure to subscribe and follow me on twitter and let’s get started the definition of an esport according to google and oxford languages is the following a multiplayer video game played competitively for spectators Typically by professional gamers and this sounds about right looking at one of the esports like valerian you can see that it’s a multiplayer video game that’s played competitively by professional gamers live stream in front of a large audience of spectators but another notable aspect of most if not All esports is that the playing field is basically the same as the regular game for example in a game like cs go you have a team of 5 players with the objective to eliminate the entire team and plan or defuse the bomb there’s a selection of maps to play on and the First team to win 16 rounds wins the match and this is the same as in the cs go esport and that’s the biggest problem that minecraft faces when it comes to esports in my opinion besides single player minecraft there is an official shared multiplayer platform provided by mojang the only options are servers Which are hosted by other players or companies come to think of it even the single player minecraft experience isn’t the same because there are randomized c to determine what your world looks like the second biggest issue with minecraft is that being good at minecraft isn’t easy to determine there’s a lot of areas In minecraft that require different types of skill like pvp parkour redstone building speedrunning etc there isn’t a set skill set for minecraft esports to exist in unless see the reason i decided to make this video is because of a minecraft tournament that took place very recently being twitch rivals best On the block and honestly this was the closest thing to a minecraft esport that i had seen thus far i barely missed out on getting in the main event after playing in the qualifiers but after watching my friend firebathman play in the event and talking to him about it Afterwards it became clear to me that minecraft esports are possible especially with a format similar to the one in twitch rivals however that is where the third main problem in minecraft esports has shown being the competitors of these tournaments the way current minecraft events work is based on popular content creators getting Invited as captains after which they can pick three other teammates for their team now this makes sense because popular content creators will bring attention to the event and provide a big group of viewers to watch or spectate the tournament however minecraft content creators aren’t all super amazing at competitive minecraft for example this Twitch rivals event had a teammate by tubbo and a teammate by curryway a team of haha funny dream smp versus a team of four minecraft speedrunners and it might not come to surprise that tabo said that the event was unbalanced because it was so what should minecraft esports look Like well it should be a test of minecraft skill in a competitive environment emphasis on competitive so no building or super complicated redstone think of aspects of minecraft like pvp parkour or movement and game knowledge for pvp i’d say something like zone control and twitch rivals or something in the format of mcc’s Battlebox is good for parkour a parkour map with the option of taking easy and difficult jumps is good there should be the option for good players to try to make a risky and difficult jump that saves them time for movement a parkour game could be sufficient or instead of a Parkour game you can have something like the triathlon game at twitch rivals or something like a park or gauntlet that requires block clutch placing as well for game knowledge multiple games should be played a game that features something like minecraft bingo is good to show survival minecraft skill and knowledge Another game like temple of elements in twitch rivals is a good test to show how players can efficiently take a variety of challenges on as a team and yeah that’s about as much as i have to say about this right now make sure to share your thoughts in the comments below Share some ideas or give some feedback in general thank you for watching this video and subscribe Video Information
