The biggest breakthrough we have ever seen in Minecraft set seed speed running just happened over the past 10 months Runners have been theorizing a new strategy that would allow players to kill the Ender Dragon in one shot with just one Arrow incredibly precise and difficult to execute it was originally Thought to only be possible in a tool-assisted speed run but now players can pull it off in real time the strategy is called one shot and thanks to a handful of community members spending countless hours studying the dragon and optimizing potential end fights it allowed the set seed Glitchless world record to be beaten by 38 seconds on August 5th for reference in the two years before this breakthrough the world record had been improved by just 10 seconds total and there’s no sign of stopping since August 5th four different Runners have brought the SSG world record all the way from 147 to 1 oh in this video I’m going to explain how one shot works tell the fascinating story behind its Discovery and the people who made it possible and analyze the new world records themselves this is the story of maybe the most insane strategy we’ve ever seen in a Minecraft World record and of the fastest speedruns ever pulled off by a human in Minecraft this is the story of one shot Foreign In the set seed glitchless category there are five separate speedrun leaderboards divided by versions of the game they each have their own world record history but when you combine them you get the overall leaderboard of Minecraft set seed glitchless or the leaderboard for the fastest completions of survival Minecraft that don’t use Cheats or glitches as of the morning of August 5th 2023 there had been plenty of World Records in recent memory including one set by magnetic maybe just the day before but the times hadn’t been getting significantly faster after the two-minute barrier was broken by Rayo on July 5th 2021 four different Runners set A combined 14 World Records over the next 13 months and the record only got 11 seconds faster at 147.084 there was definitely gonna be someone in the near future to get the first 146 but beyond that it wasn’t looking like any major developments were on the way but that couldn’t have been For further from the truth because the world of SSG was about to be turned upside down on August 5th Hanabi beat the game in one minute and nine seconds the next day nsla got a 107. five days after that Rox got a 106 and two days After that rattles got a 104. there have already been runs with a pace fast enough to break the one minute barrier instead of the 146 we were all expecting the SSG world record was reaching levels we never thought it would to understand how this was even possible let’s go back To September of 2022 where the long story of the discovery of one shot begins on September 30th a speedrunner called crafterdark was experimenting with Ender Dragon soft locking which is a glitch that works on some older versions whereby entering the end dying and re-entering the end the dragon can Get stuck in one place while messing around with this on a whim crafterdark shot the dragon with a bow and arrow while standing right beneath it and in one shot a quarter of the dragon’s Health went away the maximum possible damage from a non-critical bow shot is Six health and the Ender Dragon has 200 Health how was this possible well firstly Minecraft arrows have interesting physics behind them the amount of damage they do is based purely on the velocity they have when they hit their target and the velocity and damage capacity are both uncapped so if Something were to speed up an arrow after it’s been shot it could in theory deal far more damage than was ever intended by the designers but the question was why did that particular Arrow speed up crafter dark’s first theory was that when the dragon was soft locked because it tries to repel Projectiles it would shoot the arrow away at a much higher velocity than it was initially fired at but in the particular Spot crafterdark Shot the dragon the era would experience that velocity gain but still hit the dragon dealing exponentially higher damage this was a big Discovery and crafter dark Immediately want to tell other members of the SSG Community if he could repeat his results the dragon could be killed with just 20 to 30 arrows maybe even less he immediately got to work trying to replicate this but when he did he didn’t take a quarter of the dragon’s health he took half He continued messing around with this trying to find a consistent way to pull it off and an hour and a half later for the first time ever he killed the dragon in one he did it again on a recording and the strategy of one shot was officially born Right away the question was how this could be implemented into runs and community members including crafter dark and kaima started experimenting the first realization they came to was that crafterdark’s assumption about why the heightened damage happened was wrong it wasn’t because the dragon was soft-blocked no one really understood The true mechanics of the one shot yet but the realization that the dragon didn’t have to be soft locked was huge without the time loss of getting the dragon soft block the one shot could potentially be used to set a world record on October 10th crafterdark published a video showcasing a potential Route that could be used to break the set seed glitchless peaceful world record by over 20 seconds using one shot the route is played on version 1.12 uses the same seed as the world record of the enter and speedrun category and is the first ancestor of the eventual One-Shot World Records we’re seeing today in the Showcase crafterdark spawns into a mountain biome and kills a nearby chicken to get feather he can use for an arrow he digs straight down lands in the stronghold library then gathers some wood to make a crafting table he grabs a Sword from a chest to break cobwebs which will give him string that he can use to craft a bow lastly he’ll grab a piece of gravel which he can break until it turns into flint and heads to the already full End Portal in the end he turns his gravel into Flint then crafts His bow and arrow as the dragon perches in the nearby Fountain it leaves the perch immediately charges at crafter dark and he one shots it except the one shot part is left up to your imagination there was also a route using the same seed made for non-peaceful or easy plus SSG which is the more competitive category but because the dragon gives the player knockback an easy plus players couldn’t get close enough to the dragon to One-Shot it of course they weren’t having any luck on peaceful mode either but that at least felt possible to complete so regardless of the mode They tried for the next six months pretty much nothing happened to make any progress towards a One-Shot breakthrough until April 4th 2023 kaima who hasn’t played any One-Shot run since October decides to run some one shot on peaceful mode he knows pulling it off is possible But no one’s ever done it yet and his expectations are reasonably low but however low they might be kaima has no idea how truly improbable it is for him to hit the one shot I’m gonna break down the actual mechanics behind the one shot Here but keep in mind at the time no one actually understood it it would take months of work from one very dedicated Minecrafter to uncover the secrets behind one shot but we’ll get to that later when the Ender Dragon hits the player they can often be shot incredibly Far into the air at a very high velocity because certain parts of the dragon’s hitbox deal a ton of knockback more specifically there is a tiny spot on the dragon’s hitbox which would later become known as the tickle spot and as the player gets closer to it they gain an Exponential amount of server velocity server velocity gives the player a speed and a Direction They Are Meant to move in but the movement will only happen once the player takes damage from the Dragon And not every part of the dragon’s hitbox deals damage okay big deal but here’s the kicker when a player fires an arrow the server velocity for the player is applied to the arrow as well normally the player can’t move fast enough to really change the damage an Arrow does but in the in-between moment where the player has extreme server velocity but they haven’t been hit yet if they were to fire an arrow the massive amounts of server velocity the player is storing would be transferred to the arrow and remember velocity equals damage thus we have a super Arrow But actually Landing that super arrow is a whole different story the good news is that Dragon movement is imprecise but predictable whether it’s charging straight at the player in older versions or swinging along invisible nodes in newer versions The not so good news is that the tickle spot is small enough That in order to be close enough to it to kill the dragon in one shot as the dragon flies by the player has a window of just one tick or 1 20th of a second to fire their Arrow even worse in order to gain enough velocity in that one tick Of proximity they have to be within .02 meters or 1 50th of a single Minecraft block of the tickle spot on top of that the player can’t aim the way they normally would whatever lateral velocity that Arrow had based on the direction the player shot it in is completely Nullified by the extreme knockback of the tickle spot meaning the actual Direction the arrow flies is based on the player’s angle from on the tickle spot which again is practically microscopic on top of all of that the dragon has a ton of slightly different paths it can take to a given spot so Even if the player shoots it in the exact same spot every time there’s still a high chance that they wouldn’t be able to one shot it so to summarize the player has to release an arrow with timing as precise as 1 20th of a second Less than a 50th of a block from a tiny point that they can’t see at an angle that will actually allow the arrow to kill the dragon and even if they execute it perfectly it still probably won’t work and on April 4th no one even understood these intricacies yet kaima Is only using the route he’s using because he knows it’ll align the dragon well to fly past him all of that to say if we look at the odds kaima should not be able to One-Shot the dragon it’s not like he has a precise spot he’s setting Up in that he knows will put him in the right position he’s literally eyeballing this which is why it’s so shocking that after about five hours of attempts this happens Thank you The first one shot ever completed in a real run think Luke Skywalker using the force to blindly hit a two meter hole and blow up the Death Star except kaima doesn’t have the force as far as We Know no one else has ever hit a One-Shot Flying Blind the way kaima did and it’s very unlikely that anyone ever will he beat the SSG peaceful world record by 11 seconds with this run getting a low 148 that was less than half a second slower than the easy plus SSG world record at the time all of a sudden it was Extremely clear that one shot had a potential we had never seen in SSG before and easy plus SSG was always going to be the end goal but in order to make an SSG world record possible a lot had to be optimized first of all the non-peaceful version of crafterdark’s Route had a built-in time loss as in order to avoid taking too much fall damage you have to fall into this cobweb losing about 5 seconds and of course there’s the knockback issue that had kept players from taking much of a swing at easy plus one shot in the first place Without some sort of optimization some way to make One-Shot runs just consistent enough that it wouldn’t be crazy to spend time grinding for a world record it looked like the dream of a One-Shot SSG world record might be forgotten but luckily for us there was One person who was up to the task a Minecraft player named circuit circuit is a YouTuber and member of the Minecraft speedrunning Community who is mostly known for her tasses or tool-assisted speedruns tool assisted speedruns allow the player to manually determine every input on every frame of A speed run creating runs faster than any human has pulled off some passes use tricks that are so precise or intensive that they’re considered not humanly possible While others just show what a theoretically perfect run played by a human could look like on May 28th circuit uploaded a video called Dragon Insta-kill test it was a tool-assisted end fight where as the dragon flies overhead she throws an ender pearl that hits the dragon fires an arrow immediately hitting the tickle spot and one-shotting it then throws another Pearl to not die from Fall damage this is really cool looking but also quite Unrealistic for a person to actually pull off there’s a lot of complicated math and physics involved and I don’t even 100 understand it but basically to even make the tool assisted run possible circuit wrote a code that takes the dragon’s starting position and partially solves and partially Brute Forces which Is mass speak for guessing and checking a ton of possibilities a series of angles that lets the player land an ender pearl in the right position but because of the imprecise nature of Ender Pearls there’s less than a two percent chance that the Pearl actually hits the Right spot so why do we care about any of this because as she runs to the Fountain circuit’s Health isn’t regenerating she didn’t do this on peaceful mode so as far off as an actual human completion might scene one shot is officially possible uneasy Plus and it didn’t stop there The next day she made a follow-up video using a different setup where she goes to the Fountain after the dragon perches sets up the shot while it’s perching and it can’t knock her away then shoots it 30 seconds later if you were wondering why players don’t just One-Shot the Dragon while it’s perched since they wouldn’t have to hit a moving Target and could hit their spot much more often it’s because the dragon doesn’t take Arrow damage while it’s purged SO waiting for it to leave the perch would negate the time gains of the one shot the next day circuit published another End fight task this time one shotting the dragon as she fell from above it another cool task that no human was ever going to pull off but after this one circuit’s Focus shifted world record setting end fights and Tool assisted runs were one thing but the real prize the SSG world record Was still Out Of Reach so over the next two months circuit put her head down and got to work her first breakthrough came on June 5th after graphing the tickle spots on a large amount of dragon paths which remember are predictable but imprecise circuit had found points where the different paths converged while These points were still inexact due to the slight variations in the dragon’s path each time it flies past it was close enough that circuit decided to try to hit the one shot in real time she built herself a practice map and after six hours of attempts this happened For the first time ever a human had one shot the dragon in real time on easy plus the setup wasn’t very fast not fast enough to compete with the fastest zero Cycles which was the fastest method of killing the dragon in later versions before one shot but it was a huge step In the right direction a few days later she published a faster end fight using a different convergence Point she had graphed using some sloppy math she estimated that with perfect positioning and arrow execution the player would one shot the dragon 2.5 percent of the time using this setup in the description of The video she says the 2.5 percent number scares me because it borders unfeasible slowly but surely she was bringing one shots in real runs closer to reality quick detour but can we just take a second here to appreciate again how insane kaima’s run is he even with a perfect setup after analyzing the Dragon’s path and perfect Arrow aim and timing circuit had a 1 in 40 chance to kill the dragon kaima did it with no research on the setup no exact positioning just standing in an area the dragon passes through and eyeballing it that might be the unlikeliest thing I’ve Ever seen someone pull off in a speed run I just think that’s pretty cool circuit spent the next week or so studying Dragon paths as they go into their death animation where they spend an inexact amount of time flying around before finally going above the fountain And letting the game end she used her findings from this to create another One-Shot task which was the new fastest tool-assisted end fight by 5 Seconds circuit spent the next few weeks further investigating perch mechanics and dragon flight paths and just generally messing around with one shot and the end fight Including making a task where she kills the dragon less than three seconds after entering the end it was Sir circuit who had originally broken down the actual mechanics of one shot although don’t worry I’m not gonna explain all that again it was circuit who had made a one Shot in an easy plus run possible but there was one thing she hadn’t done yet she still needed to figure out how exactly a One-Shot SSG world record was gonna happen making a one shot possible in a given Minecraft World’s End Dimension was one thing but creating a Route where the player could get to the end in the first place with a bow and arrow and then one shot the dragon in less than a minute and 37 seconds was another thing entirely I won’t get into the math here but seed finding especially for something as optimized as The SSG world record is incredibly time consuming and difficult there’s just no way circuit could not only make all these discoveries and break all these barriers on a technical level then also go find the right seed for it but there was something she hadn’t tried yet all of the research and experimenting Circuit had done so far was on version 1.16 which made sense because it was the version that the SSG world record was played on but if a route was what was needed to finish the job why not try the only route where a run with one shot had Already been completed it was time to return to 1.12 in Late July circuit decided to look into the 1.12 end fight recollecting and analyzing Dragon flight path data and determining the viability of crafterdark’s old ssgp Route she was skeptical at first but was quickly able to optimize positioning in the end to Increase the odds of actually hitting the one shot and on July 31st she finally completed a full run using one shot as she beat kaima’s ssgp world record by 11 seconds with a 137. Not only was this a new ssgp record using one shot it was 10 seconds faster than the overall SSG world record we knew an easy plus one shot was possible we knew a One-Shot run could be faster than the easy plus SSG record but no one Was as far ahead of the pack on this Tech as circuit so the speedrunning world waited with baited breath to see what she would do next any day now surely she would break the record even by just a few seconds and change SSG forever and on August 3rd the expected Upload came but it wasn’t a new record instead it was a Showcase of a 1.12 SSG run with an exact setup that could be used for one shot but the one shot itself came just short in the description she explained that while she had hoped to be the one to set the world Record she wasn’t going to be home for a while so it would have to be someone else so while it meant circuit not getting all the recognition she deserved it was time for someone else to step up immediately SSG Runners of several different versions got to work grinding Circuits route it was a matter of when not if the One-Shot world record would come and who better to pull it off than someone who had been following the progression of one shot every step of the way someone who had made his own pass of a One-Shot SSG run back in June And someone who had held the overall SSG world record up until August 4th when it was beaten by magnetic Navy and talking of course about Hanabi and on August 5th this is what he did he spawns in the familiar Mountain bio and immediately digs down already he’s Saving Time by not killing a chicken but how can he afford to skip that well instead of spending time Gathering wood string flint and a feather he’s gonna go for the high roll of killing a skeleton and having it drop both an arrow and its Bow which have a 67 percent and an 8.5 percent chance of happening respectively it makes the Run even rarer to complete but as you’re about to see the time saved is not small he drops into the stronghold catching a cobweb on the way down to stop his fall damage then Crosses the Ravine to get the sword out of the chest a conveniently located skeleton waits for him and he gets the 5.7 percent chance of the same skeleton dropping both of the items he needs turns and jumps to the other side of the Ravine forcing his way through a crowd Of monsters dashes to the end portal room and is into the end at just 23 seconds that’s 36 seconds faster than magnetic maybe’s end enter in his SSG world record it’s also 34 seconds faster than in circuit’s route showcase meaning the risky skeleton Gambit has more than Paid off but of course by far the unlikeliest task in the run is still ahead of Hanabi I could go on here about just how low the odds are of what’s about to happen or how far the community has come to get to this point but I Think you understand all that by now so instead sit back and enjoy probably the coolest thing you’ll ever see in a Minecraft speed run this is a moment in speedrunning history thank you One minute nine seconds a new SSG world record by an unbelievable 38 second margin the last 38 seconds to be cut off of this world record took two and a half years this is the last time we’ll ever see something quite like this in Minecraft speedrunning and as it turned out the World records were just getting started the next day on August 6th nsla was in her 13th hour straight of grinding the seed when she pulled off this run where she enters the end 21.155 seconds compared to hanabi’s 23.2 thanks to having to push through less mobs she then clutches up the one shot To earn a 107. five days later on August 11th Rox was playing a slightly different route where he takes an iron pickaxe from a closer chest and fights the skeleton with that trading the slower skeleton kill for the faster tool grab it pays off as he enters the end at 20.303 hits the one shot and completes a 106. that same day though circuit returned to shake things up uploading a video showcasing a different end setup on the same seed that if executed perfectly had about a five percent chance of a successful one shot instead of the three percent chance that the Original setup was estimated to yield two days later on August 13th rattles who had grinded this seed for about 40 hours during this time span was using that new route she gets stuck in an extra cobweb in the Overworld losing a little bit of time but thanks to the Pickaxe route and a faster skeleton kill than Rox had she enters the end at 19.45 on top of being a little more consistent circuit’s new setup is also a little faster and rattles hits the one shot finishing the current world record with a time of 104.548 so finally we’re caught up to The current SSG world record will it stay that way I mean there’s like an 80 chance that by the time I’m finishing this video I’ll be putting text on screen here to update you about the newest records But ultimately that’s a very good thing and I think we’ve Covered all we can in this video before you go I want to give a huge shout out to Hanabi kaima and a specially crafterdark for helping a ton with the creation of this video it wouldn’t have been possible without them I also want to give a huge shout out to circuit for All the groundbreaking work she did to make the record possible as well as Hanabi nsla rocks and rattles for actually pulling off the runs and everyone else who contributed to the new One-Shot World Records finally a huge thanks to you for making it to the end of this video and supporting the content If you enjoyed please One Shot is a crazy new strategy in Minecraft speedrunning that allows the player to kill the ender dragon with just one arrow shot. This has led to by far the fastest runs in Minecraft speedrunning history. Since oneshot was discovered, there have been 5 new SSG world records, bringing the record from 1:47 to 1:04. In this video, I break down the history of the oneshot strategy, as well as those world records. Please like and subscribe if you enjoy!

This is not the story of a Minecraft player who possibly cheated to get a faked Minecraft speedrun world record, and not the story of their friend who also did not cheat to get a faked Minecraft speedrun world record. Fake Minecraft speedruns are insane, almost as insane as this description! If you want to see a fake cheated Minecraft 1.16 world record speedrun, this is not the video for you!
