The server files or download the Minecraft server files once you’re here you want to scroll down and click on this green download Minecraft button when you click on that it’s going to take you to Minecraft’s official website where we want to click on this download Minecraft underscore server 1.18.1.jarlink right here right I’m

Gonna go ahead and select that once we have in the bottom left the server.jar will start downloading you may need to keep this file or save this file depending on your browser and it’s 100 safe to do so this is on minecraft.net where you’re downloading this from and

That means if you downloaded Minecraft before you have downloaded something from this website now we can go ahead and minimize our browser we need to get that file we downloaded to our desktop to do that you want to click the little Windows icons and they top it up to my

Screen bottom left your screen and if you’re on Windows 11 it’s in the center of your screen click on that window little Windows icon in the center of your screen on Windows 11 bottom left on Windows 10 and then you want to search downloads you have this downloads file

Folder here select this and it will open up your downloads folder where you’ll have this server file now yours may not be called server.jar it may not even have the correct little Java icon there if that’s the case that’s okay just drag and drop it to your desktop once it’s on

Checked as you can see I unchecked it and suddenly.txt it’s gone server it’s like the jar it’s gone the dot jar is not there it’s just server so you want to compare to the top select View and then click on file name extensions now if you don’t have file name extensions

Here you might need to go to options over here on the right hand side and then go into view when you do that you want to scroll down until you see height extensions for known file types right so right here Hide extensions for no top types you want to make sure that’s

Unchecked actually so hide extensions for no file types is unchecked or the easiest way to do this is going to be go to view and then file name extension to make sure that is checked nevertheless once you’ve done that we can open up the new text document and in the description

A Java server which is correct it’s a jar or Java file this is how much RAM your server has right by default 2048 megabytes is two gigabytes if you wanted to up this to three gigabytes for example you could change this to three and it’s going to

Be roughly three gigabytes if you want to change it to four you would change it to four thousand megabytes right like so by default though we’re gonna stick with two gigabytes that should be good for most people starting out it is a jar file right so it’s opening with Java

It’s a jar file and then it’s a server.jar now this is going to be the same as the file back here so server.jar it’s there guess what it’s good to have server.jar there if you were starting a paper server though we’ll talk about paper here in a minute but if you were

To start a paper server it would actually need to be like paper.jar paper Dash version.jar whatever it is right and then node GUI means you’re not going to be opening up the Minecraft server GUI you can delete that if you want but I wouldn’t recommend it then pause just

Means if you do have an issue it’s going to pause the console instead of close it finally we can go file save here so file save and then close out of the new text document then we want to right click on this new text document and click rename then we

Want to select everything where there’s nothing in this box at all even delete.txt then we want to rename this to run dot bat so run dot bat exactly like that then when we click off of it we’re going to get this warning saying if you change the file name extension

The file may become unusable it’s not going to we want to do that so we want to go ahead and click yes here and change that now we have a file named run.bat but most importantly the type is Windows batch file if it’s not just rename it making sure you delete the txt

And then confirm that you do want to change the file type finally we should be able to double click on run.bat here and it’s going to go ahead and try to start our server it is going to fail though that’s because we’ve not agreed

To the EULA so there we go as you can see you need to agree to the ula in order to run the server and it’s failed so we can press any key to continue and close out of this CMD now if you did have issues here it’s probably because

You don’t have the correct version of java installed currently at the time I’m recording this you need Java 17 to run Minecraft servers I don’t miss necessarily see that changing but if you do need a newer version of java guess what the link in the description Down

Nevertheless though we can now go ahead and Join This Server to do that we need to open up Minecraft so let me do a jump cut real fast I’ll open up Minecraft and meet you in game so here we are our server is started as you can see it says

Done there when it says done the server started you’re good to go and Minecraft is open to join the server we’re going to click on multiplayer and then click on Direct connection now you’re the only person that can join your server this way your friends people like that are
