Everyone knows that in minecraft you can plant a sapling and get a tree but there is so much more to tree farming than that and it’s all covered right here in the ultimate minecraft 1.18 tree farming guide come check it out tree farming is a really complicated subject so i’ve Added chapters to the play bar of this video if you’d like to reference certain parts of it more easily also not even two percent of people who watch my videos are subscribed so if you press that subscribe button that would really mean a lot and then you can see even More awesome videos like this one so of course before we go into exactly how to farm them we need to know what kind of trees are actually in the game so of course we have azalea trees oak trees giant oak trees spruce trees giant spruce trees we have birch trees small Jungle trees large jungle trees acacia trees dark oak trees we have crimson forest trees and warped forest trees also known as giant fungi and of course they have crimson stems and warped stems that are somewhat like logs and of course can be turned into planks now all These different types of trees grow in different areas so you’ll find the dark oak tree in the roofed forest you will find the nether trees in the crimson and warp forest biomes in the nether and these can actually only grow on nilium or on crimson nilium worked or crimson We have acacia trees and these spawn in in the savannah we have giant jungle trees which grow in the jungle we also have small jungle trees which can grow in the jungle or the sparse jungle we have birch trees now the short variety like this you can of course get By bone milling a birch sapling there’s also a tall variety that you cannot grow which is in the old growth birch forest and it’s just like this but a bit taller we also have giant spruce trees and these generate in the mega taiga biome something just like this and they have a Bunch of different shapes some with more leaves and some with less we have small spruce trees which generate in the tiger biome now large oak trees are found in forest biomes as well as plains biomes and a couple other places we of course have small oak trees which are found in Forest biomes as well as plains and a couple other biomes like the meadow occasionally and then we have the azalea tree which generates above lush caves and any single biome inside of the overworld now of course you get a tree by planting down a sapling on dirt or Grass but you can actually plant it down on a couple other things as well and it’ll still grow so we can plant it down on podzol we can plant it down on coarse dirt you can actually plant it down on moss which is very very interesting and You can plant it down on rooted dirt now what’s interesting about the moss is the fact that you could actually convert a large area to moss those let’s say stone at first and then actually have a suitable area to plant yourself some trees on but either way you can plant Down trees on any of these different types that you want and none of them really work better than any others now what’s kind of interesting is that when you harvest a tree you get yourself a large variety of different things depending on the tree for instance with Giant jungle trees you actually have the addition of vines these actually generate on the tree now not of course this long but they will grow this long if you let them from the crimson and warped trees of the nether we have warped wart blocks and netherwort blocks Instead of leaves you also have the occasional little bit of a weeping vine inside of the netherwort tree or the crimson stem tree and we also have here of course crimson stem that we get from these and we have warped stem from these you can turn these into all kinds of Planks and varieties as you would with normal wood now something you get from overworld trees is from the leaves of course you get yourself saplings you can get yourself apples from the leaves of oak trees or from dark oak trees let’s say 1 in 200 chance of a decaying leaf and a Leaf of course decays when wood is destroyed and that decaying leaf can drop a apple one in 200 times and of course these trees also all drop sticks and can also drop saplings something that’s kind of interesting is that jungle trees actually have half the sapling drop rate of your average tree That’s often why it’s hard to get so many jungle saplings making them actually the most valuable sapling in the game now what’s kind of interesting and a lot of people don’t know this is that you can actually plant trees in more dimensions than just the overworld In fact you can actually plant them in another just like you can see these ones are here and if we go right back through this portal and go over here you guessed it we can plant them also inside of the end you can see i’ve planted these trees Right here so as long as they have enough light which they almost always will in these biomes then they basically can grow here as well which is kind of funny because you could make yourself a tree firm in the nether or the end if you so wanted now you’re probably Wondering what are the best tools to use to chop down trees you probably know that an axe is the best tool it only makes sense but here are the enchantments that actually matter all you’re really going to want is you’re going to want efficiency 5 and of course Mending and then breaking to make the durability larger there’s no point to have fortune or silk touch on an axe although i guess if you wanted to break the leaves you could do it with that with the logs itself there’s not really a point and hose or Shears are the best to break leaves with now a hoe enchanted with silk touch which by the way doesn’t need efficiency because the leaves will be instant mined anyway and break these just as if it was shears in an instant fashion or if you have the hoe that has fortune 3 on it and you break the leaves then there is increased chance of drops like we just saw there i actually had a spruce sapling and two sticks from like three leaves which is pretty cool when you use those kinds of tricks you can get yourself a lot more if you have Yourself a fortune or silk touch enchanted hoe and of course you can use shears to break the leaves which is kind of the traditional way of doing it and that works the exact same as the silk touch hoe now you might be briefly wondering Well i kind of know how to chop down a tree you know you just go up to it you break the leaves and it’s pretty easy just to harvest all the wood just like this that certainly is but when we get to a very large tree like this that Question becomes a little bit more complicated it’s actually quite simple to chop down this tree as well while still not having any little bits of wood that might stay there and keep the leaves from despawning so all you have to do is take a look at your tree and Just break this block right here we’re basically going to do is we’re going to break two blocks above us and one to the front of us so we’ll break this block here these two blocks above then the block in front of us two ones above us just like this and this is actually Doing is making like a corkscrew shape or kind of a very windy staircase shape that will basically give us a pathway all the way to the top of the tree and of course now that we’re at the top of the tree all you have to do is just look Straight down and basically mine all of the blocks here that you left and it’s actually a really quick process you can just go down like this and once you’ve done that and all the leaf blocks are just left to hang up there then of course they will eventually despawn and You can come back here to get yourself your saplings now something a lot of people might not know about is the fact that if you grow a tree next to a flower there’s actually a five percent chance of it spawning a bee’s nest just like this one right here That’s because when minecraft introduced the buzzy bees update or 1.15 basically they wanted a way for people in older worlds to get lots of beehives without having to adventure out for them so this way beehives are renewable so it’s often a good idea with your oak or Your birch trees because those are the two varieties that this feature works on two plant down a flower right next to them when they’re growing so you have that one in twenty or five percent chance of getting yourself a free beehive that actually includes one to three bees so if your beef population Just died you can replenish it quite easily by just doing a bit of tree farming and this works when you’re bone milling the tree or if you let it grow naturally over time but how do saplings actually grow in minecraft we plant down a tree we wait a bit and they grow But how do they get from a sapling to a tree well i’m actually going to open up my f3 menu here and you’re going to see when i’m looking at this oak sapling on the right of the screen it’ll say minecraft colon oak underscore sapling it says stage zero That’s right saplings actually have growth stages and if we right click on it to bone meal at once that is forcing the random tick to be on that block right there you saw it turn from stage zero to stage one now that it’s in stage one which by the Way always goes from zero to one when we’re bone milling at the first time we can right click it again and there’s a chance it’ll go to stage two which is grown so we can right click once it didn’t happen right click another time and it did and we have ourselves this Nice tree here and of course there’s no stage left because the sapling has been consumed and has been turned into this oak tree now what’s really interesting here is that when we bone meal the first time basically it’s always forced from stage 0 to stage 1. but once we bone Mule it again the game will look for a pattern of tree that it wants to generate in and there’s a chance it’ll pick that pattern or if it does not have the available space it’ll just skip that time so for instance when you blow mill this It’ll turn stage one and now at this point after there’s a random chance and random ticks do the exact same thing so in your role there’s a random chance a block will be selected and if that block is selected then it will update sort of like bonemill does and bonemeal Just forces that to happen now saplings actually do need light to grow it’s quite an interesting feature of the game i’ll just turn the time to night just so we can take a look at that a little bit more easily so we’re gonna turn that to midnight right now Now you can plant a sapling in the darkness if there is view of the sky now if we go down here and place a sapling in the dark you’ll notice i can actually place it down unlike crops and if we go back up here you’ll see that this Sapling is placed down as well but it won’t actually grow unless it has light level nine or ten at a nice a nine or ten because if we’re looking at the block you’ll see here on the left it says sky 15 block zero we get ourselves A torch and put the torch nearby you will notice that when we put the torch let’s say four blocks away so one two three like that you’ll see it says right here sky 15 block 10. if we kind of look at it from above it’ll say sky 15 block 9. So basically we need this to be about three blocks away from a torch for it to grow i find this kind of funny because i find most people will put torches next to their farms to help them grow which actually doesn’t do anything which i have in my firming guide video you can Check that out if you’d like but they will almost never put torches right next to their tree firms all this is actually a really good practice because although the tree will not be uprooted in the dark it won’t actually grow during the dark unless it’s at least light level 10 Or about four blocks away from a torch because this is 14 13 12 11 10 just like that all right now trees also have space requirements to grow for instance if we kind of went like this this tree isn’t really going to grow if we go like this It’s just not because there’s not enough space for it to grow however trees space requirements are kind of odd and they’re all kind of different so i also noticed the wiki has some really inconsistent information on this but from what i can find basically oak trees will grow no matter What unless there’s blocks directly above them so you know let’s say an oak tree here and i had a block let’s say a block like this a bit of deep slate here right above it this would never grow just like this however if i have a log above it or Leaves above it or kind of a tree-like block it actually can grow we can kind of demonstrate this in a very funny way by placing down some spruce logs like this bone milling the bottom and you’ll notice when it grows it actually replaces the air but not the spruce log So you can actually see it grew right through it and we have kind of a stripy tree which is kind of an interesting little feature there although oak trees also aren’t very picky about this now some trees like jungle trees need a lot of space around them to grow because They have these vines on the side these branches above but in terms of kind of side to side space or x and z space not y space which is of course going up and down most trees are fine with planting a whole bunch of them just around here Like this in fact every type is except for the giant jungle trees because they have those vines on the side oak trees are quite funny though and what a lot of people don’t know is that you can actually utilize this space requirement feature to almost always grow yourself a Giant oak tree so you can get as much of this oak wood in this large pattern as you want or maybe a bunch more oak leaves it’s actually really simple so all you have to do to get yourself a giant oak tree is plant on an oak tree Put down a piece of any block actually as long as a solid block it can be anywhere in the space i’m about to lay out so basically anywhere in this space here something like this or maybe even one up here just like that we can pick Any one of these blocks so i’ll just pick one to the side just like this you can even pick a light block so we could let’s say put a shroom light or something if i can find it on the creative inventory here and then basically now there’s this block here When we bone mail this is that this is now gone to stage one every time i born mule it’s going to try to grow all the way but because this block is here it’s going to try a pattern and it’s going to say oh wait no i can’t grow that pattern because it’s Too short and this block is in the way and it’ll interrupt it so basically every single pattern it tries will not happen until it has a pattern that’s large there’s two patterns this can do it can do like this and this is of course a very small giant oak tree but It is a giant oak tree it can do this or it can do what’s also known as a balloon oak which isn’t quite a giant oak tree but it’s basically an oak tree that has a very circular pattern of leaves above it maybe we can get one here And because of this this use of getting giant oak trees will use yourself a lot of bone meal or you’ll have to wait a lot longer to have your oak trees grow however if you have a large oak farm it’s actually not that hard to eat maybe Two or three times as long to get yourself giant oak trees especially if you have hundreds of oak trees laid out now that’s an awesome way of getting yourself more oak wood unfortunately there’s nothing you can really do to get taller a spruce or jungle trees but Something you can do is you can actually use blocks to limit how tall your trees get and this is especially useful in the opposite case of this what if you only want short trees in your firm you don’t want to go up here into the bit of tree And kind of fool around with trying to get all those logs well what you can do which is really cool is you can place down your oak sapling and be like well all i want is oak trees that are short so maybe let’s say this is our standard Oak tree here we have three blocks there seven blocks there so we can just go from here one two three four five six seven then what we can do right up here is we can put ourselves some blocks right up around here just kind of make a Little bit of a shape we can even just put one block if you want just like that right above it and this will grow but it will not grow any tall varieties you can see here now of course it’s kind of hard to show this because oak trees are Usually short but if you boom nail this a lot of times this will never grow that tall just make sure this block is not leaves or any type of log because it will grow through that as it just thinks it’s a branch of a different tree and It’s fine to grow through that now what’s the fastest way of actually growing trees well of course it’s using bone meal problem with that is that bone meal is not always the easiest item to get especially early game you have to kill skeletons which is quite dangerous And even then you can only usually get maybe three to six pieces of bone meal per skeleton you kill however the easiest way to get a lot of bone meal early game which is what i usually do is to travel to the nether and of course if You don’t have a portal yet you can’t do this but generally you can find yourself a soul sand valley and in these you have these super cool fossil structures that generate very very commonly around here there’s one there there’s one there you can kind of see them just dotted around Here and each one of these fossil structures is made out of bone blocks and each bone block can actually be turned as the minecraft recipe book is trying to tell me into nine pieces of bone meal which means that each one of these fossil structures contains a Massive amount of bone meal in fact i’ve actually had times in worlds where i’ll fly around with elytra inside of the soul sand valley or we’ll just run around it for maybe two or three hours and i’ll come back with an entire 27 to 30 stacks full of bone blocks which Converts to literally hundreds and hundreds of stacks of bone meal and you can actually do that early game as well just maybe an iron pickaxe and going to the soul send valley and breaking one or two different ones of those bone block structures and enough talking about how Trees work here is the interesting part the tree farms now these are different tree farms that i have come up with and every single one should be the most efficient way of farming trees for that type or for its use so the first tree farm we have here is what i call the Lossless type now i call it lossless because you don’t generally lose any leaves when doing this this is really good for an early game tree farm where you want to get yourself a lot of trees and you also want to get yourself a lot of saplings from them to maybe plant a Forest or maybe to get yourself a bunch more saplings for a bigger tree farm you’ll notice here that these trees are spaced four blocks apart that’s because generally when these trees grow their leaves will not go further than two blocks away from themselves the only exception to that is the acacia trees But generally you won’t get too unlucky with these kind of cutting off leaves from each other that’s basically as simple as that we also have your sea lanterns either right next to the planting spot or we have the sea lanterns in the middle just like this now these don’t have to be sea Lanterns you can have torches here you can have maybe jack lanterns or glowstone whatever lighting source you want just the reason why these are here is because number one if we did use torches of course breaking down these trees you’ll often break your torches the only other problem of course is that Then will have no less efficiency when it’s at nighttime this maybe is not the biggest issue in single player because you’d probably sleep most nights but if you’re on a multiplayer server this is really important because oftentimes night doesn’t pass especially if the server doesn’t have multiplayer sleep Enabled but either way it’s always nice to have an efficiency boost of nighttime growing these trees are planted on podzol there’s a good reason for that pods will never turn into dirt even when it’s underneath a block so if we put two pods on top of each other like this this Bottom one would never convert into dirt and what’s good about that is the fact that when it’s planted like this and these trees grow up all the way we will never have to remember where did i plant those and you don’t even have to make yourself any rings around here like this With andesite you could if you wanted but anything like this to kind of remember where to plant them just a really simple way of kind of laying out a tree firm without too much hassle and you can see i do have this boxed in but Of course you can make this as large or as small as you want all right for the next type of tree farm i call this the beehive tree farm this is almost identical to the first one that has a couple differences number one you’ll notice here i’ve concealed lighting so Either underneath moss carpets here or underneath the just red wool here or the red wool carpets you can either have a torch under here or you can have a lighting block like let’s say a jack-o-lantern or a shroom light but you can actually just use a torch if you Want which is super easy and what’s really interesting about this farm is the fact that on the other side underneath the other carpet we have a poppy now it doesn’t have to be a poppy it can be any flower what this does is this farm is best Suited for oak and birch because with this puppy here what we get ourselves is we get ourselves a tree farm that also gives us beehives and that’s why i call this the beehive farm is because when these grow we have our five percent chance at the bee hive and of course on A large scale firming lots of trees maybe a hundred at a time you get up to five even ten bee hives every single time you grow all of your different trees which is a really good added bonus especially early game when maybe you want yourself some honey blocks all Right for the third farm type we have the compact farm now this is kind of a funny looking farm and looks kind of chaotic but this farm is probably one of the most useful you’ll ever use you can see we have kind of these weird lights That are laid out in a very odd way we also have all these saplings around them and what this farm basically does is this delivers light to every single sapling no matter how the other ones grow so let’s say you’re like okay well my plants need light to grow i’ll just put Down a whole bunch of saplings like this and maybe just put down one torch right in the middle of it just because then they’ll all have light when it’s night problem is is let’s say that maybe these four saplings around it grew well now this light isn’t reaching any of the Other saplings not so with this farm because every single one of these light blocks is touching every single one of these saplings or at least is close enough to it that nothing can grow to block the light from that this might look a little bit hard to set up what’s Nice about this farm is the fact that although you do lose a lot of the leaves and this is certainly not a good farm to have if you want to keep a bunch of leaves a bunch of saplings maybe a lot of sticks because most of the leaves Will be kind of you know generated over each other so you’ll lose a lot of them what this is really good for is a solid block of wood you can go through and grab you’ll notice here i have all these different saplings because this works with every single tree type except for Giant jungle but it does interestingly enough work out with giant spruce and it works with the dark oak trees because when they generate like this they actually can be right next to each other and all these saplings have light as well this kind of an odd pattern with The lights but it’s basically made by putting down a light and then if you kind of look here we’re gonna look one up two up one over just like that you can see here one up two up one over and then the next pattern of it would basically Be one to the side one to the side one down and then one to the side one to the side one down and one to the side one to the side one down and from there again we can go one up one up one over one up One up one over what this pattern does is if we plant down our saplings you’ll notice each one of these has four saplings around it just like this and they all kind of mesh with each other like that to have a solid sapling farm these little bits of diorite on the side Are just here to show that if you do have a firm with a hard edge just like this and not kind of a weird looking edge with all the lights around there you will have a couple blocks that could technically be not having light going to Them when the rest of the saplings grow so just a good thing to note but overall this is probably the best farm if you want to get yourself a lot of logs and don’t really care about keeping all your saplings and for number four we have a Large oak tree farm not a dark oak tree farm and in this tree farm we have ourselves oak trees that will always grow into large oaks now they’re planted on podzol the podzol is six blocks apart you can see just like that we have six blocks here that’s because when the Leaves and the wood on these trees generate which is of course the reason of having you know the large oak trees it will not really run into themselves too much unless this one generates this way and this one generates that way but again most of the time we’re going to Have this generate without it overlapping which is good and that’s why there’s a bit more distance there we have ourselves some light so number one this will grow at night but of course the main reason being that we know when we have a block anywhere in that area around the sapling that will Make it grow into either a balloon oak or a large oak and usually a large oak and we just have this block right here for easy use you can have it on this side if you want either that’s whatever you want though and of course we just Have it framed here but you can make it as big or as small as you want if you want a large oak tree for let’s say a park or something else you want to build you can just use the same technique just plant down your oak sapling wherever you want your giant oak Tree and just place down your shroom light or whatever block you want doesn’t even have to be a light source then just wait for it to grow and you’ll have it there in maybe a couple days and for our fifth farm design we have the giant tree Design this is for the dark oak for the giant jungles and for the giant spruce you can kind of see if a lot of things laid out here so i’ll explain that the blocks right here the polished granite are basically there because when we make these spruce saplings grow into A large spruce tree there’s actually pods all that generates around the bottom of that which is fine but if we have it in something like this that’s all grass it’ll be very hard to remember where to actually plant our sapling and of course i’m not sure if you want your Grass to be turned into podzol either so you can lay it out something like this we have these two lights here so it’ll grow at night and we also have where we’re going to plant these things be surrounded in the antisight they’re in a circle and of course you can see here we Could do it like this in grass as well just being sure there could be some possible there we’re just doing this for dark oak though it’s pretty good you’ll notice there’s a lot of distance between these there is six blocks of distance and that’s because of the giant jungle Trees now jungle trees need a lot of distance i found they only really reliably grow if they’re at least six blocks away from the next giant jungle tree sapling group just like that now you could also plant your giant spruce trees in areas like this to try and Avoid some of the possible from spawning but as you can sadly see it’s not very efficient that way so it’s kind of just good to stay to something like this where you have yourself a lot of blocks on the ground there now for the sixth tree farm we have my personal favorite This is also the fastest way to grow trees that’s actually the only way of growing the giant fungus or nether trees which of course are crimson and warped that’s what i call the speedy bonemeal tree farm which is basically just laying out tons of saplings and bone mailing it And it’s not really a tree farm in a sense but just kind of setting out an area to grow your trees so i’m sure you can kind of imagine how that would work with something like this we’d of course just bone meal a whole bunch of trees And then we would basically chop them down of course you can really only use this method if you either have some kind of a skeleton farm or do a lot of mining out of the bone blocks in the soul sand valley like i showed off earlier now When you’re growing the warped and the crimson fungus and you actually have to grow it this way what you do is you plant it on warped nilium if it’s a warped fungus you plant it on crimson nilium if it is a crimson fungus and once it’s planted down on there it’ll Actually never grow unless you bonemeal it so we’ll pick this one to grow we’ll right click on that and look at that it actually instantly grew there’s our one crimson fungus we can right click on these to make it grow into a warped fungus i don’t think they always Instantly grow like that maybe they do but anyway we can right click on these of course we can always fill these up like that one didn’t instantly grow just having amazing luck there but anyway you can actually just kind of bumble these all in a row however what is really Important to remember when kind of bone milling a bunch of these in a big pattern like this is that unfortunately the warped and the crimson stems do not actually replace the leaf blocks as they would with a tree for instance this warp stem here did not generate right here on These two pieces of warped wart they did generate up here above it so it’s important to remember that you might lose a lot of this if you do generate it in a large pattern like that so you can always generate those kind of as is plant them individually and grow them Also if you do want to kind of keep on your warp nylon it’s always good to break the block under here before it is destroyed by this being on top of it because that will eventually turn into netherrack but this is a infinite resource because you can just grow that Again that’s good to know though the fastest way of getting massive amounts of logs in the game is to use this bonemeal method to the next level so we can do is we can grow one tree like this or we can you know just start with some Saplings we can bone meal them and you’ll just continue on with that planting them next to each other sometimes it will let you plant a bunch down and then bone meal them all but generally it’ll that work better if you just plant down one like this and we’ll Mill that and then once i’ve done that for a bit i’ll go to the next layer plant down some more and basically slowly form a massive block of wood just like that by slowly making more and more trees if you have a lot of bone meal and a Decent amount of spruce saplings you can get yourself so many logs this way because as you can see as i bone mail them we’re making an absolutely massive chunk of logs here and the vast majority of the leaves are destroyed by the logs and once you have a massive block of Wood there you can just kind of make a staircase to the top of that and then maybe take i don’t know two or three hours to take the entire thing down depends how long it’ll take really and how big your wood stack is but it’s Always a good idea to bring a bed up there but if you mind it like that you get yourself a massive massive amount of wood super super quickly for the seventh and final tree firm we have an azalea farm each one of these places where the azalea trees are planted is spaced Actually eight blocks away from each other just like that you can all see that they’re surrounded in the polished anda site or it can be any block you want really but surrounded in a block instead of being placed on top of let’s say a little bit of podzol Like maybe these ones over here are and the reason for that is the way that these trees grow you get these in the lush caves and you also find the full azalea trees generating occasionally in the world but you can actually firm them as well you just need to have yourself Some bone meal and a good setup just like this one we have right here so because these are eight blocks apart when i bone meal this one you’ll see that these generally do tend to one side like this one did here so when i bone Meal this one it may tend to that side although it didn’t but if it did uh most of these leaves would not be destroyed because you know forming azalea trees which again you can actually do this with flowering azalea or azalea either one of these kind of bush types you want Now when you’re farming azalea trees you’re really only farming it for one thing that’s for the leaves right because most people when they want oakwood are just going to cut it down from our separate tree farm they have or maybe from a forest there’s no real point of finding yourself azalea trees And bone mailing them so it’s mostly for the leaves the flowering azalea leaves and the azalea leaves and because of that this farm makes that the big concern that’s how we have these eight blocks between every single one of these trees so when we bone meal this we’re Almost never going to have these leaves be destroyed and now this one is actually probably the closest it’ll get in fact i’m glad it generated that way you’ll notice here if anything there’s maybe four blocks here that were replaced by other blocks so this has minimal loss of the leaves it’s compact Enough i would say it also gives ourselves nice spaces to grow these the reason why we have these outlined instead of having them planted on podzol so we break this you’ll notice this actually generated something below it it’s rooted dirt it’s actually the only way to get renewable root of dirt it’s Just one piece of rooted dirt but it is rooted dirt and so because of that we need to have a place underneath here that’s not just a piece of podzol to show us where to plant this now these of course don’t really need light because we’re going to grow these with bone meal And they can’t actually grow with themselves so you’ll never just have a azalea bush that’ll turn into an azalea tree without a little bit of bone meal in there it also looks like bees actually like pollinating the flowering azalea leaves as if it was a flower so That’s kind of an interesting thing as well this would be a perfect tree to have right next to your beehive area so there we have it the ultimate
