Enchanting in minecraft is one of the most useful yet complicated parts of the game but no worries because this is the ultimate minecraft enchanting guide and we’re starting right now so to enchant in minecraft you’re going to need an enchantment table set up something like this and here’s how you make the best Enchantment table setup of course first of all you have to make an enchantment table made with four obsidian and two diamonds so you’ll need a diamond pickaxe as well to mine the obsidian unless you get lucky with villager chests you’re also going to need one Book up here and that will give you an enchanting table additionally you’ll need 15 bookshelves now what’s interesting is that 15 bookshelves equals out to 135 pieces of paper and 45 leather as well as a large amount of planks now once you have those all you Have to do is put down the enchantment table about two blocks away from your wall like this or from an area where you want it to be and then put the books one block away from it something like this you could put it up here like this if You wanted and around here like this but as long as there are that many books and you can put it around here like this and that will give you the full level enchantments which is level 30 and if we put a book in here you’ll see that Equals level 30. now it’s interesting is if we get rid of one of these right here the enchanting table will still work it will just be at level 28 because every single bookshelf adds two levels so 15 times 2 is 30 and that’s why 15 bookshelves gives you level 30 enchantments interestingly enough Something you can do if you want to enchant even if you don’t have 30 levels is you can get torches to block up a bookshelf just like this and then if you try enchanting something you’ll notice it’s only at 28 we put this here we try Again it’s only at 26 and so on and so forth so you can kind of lower down the enchantment level to how many levels you have the other reason why this could be a good trick is oftentimes you can get silk touch on a lower level enchantment So for instance we might be able to block this up and check this and have silk touch as one of the options potentially but either way it’s always good to have 15 bookshelves around here no more or no less because then you can have any enchantment you’d like now what You want to do to actually enchant things is to of course get an item and get some lapis lazuli now the items that you can actually enchant right in the enchantment table are all in this chest here except for these ones down here you cannot enchant any of the items that are Down here in the enchantment table you can enchant them you just cannot enchant them in the table so you can enchant any weapon and any piece of armor and of course these don’t have to be netherrate it can be any type of armor or any type of weapon you can also enchant turtle Shells you can enchant fishing rods crossbows bows and tridents all within the main enchanting table over here interestingly enough the text that appears here is basically a random jumble of different words in this thing called the standard galactic alphabet but it has nothing to do with the enchantment that you’ll actually get but Anyway to enchant you want to put any of these items in here that you’re allowed to enchant you want to put that in there you also want to put in how many lapis for each enchantment now there’s three options here we have one at 30 15 and 4. Now generally you always want to go for a level 3 enchantment there’s almost never a good reason to go for a level 2 or a level 1 enchantment so for instance let’s say we wanted the level 3 enchantment here but we didn’t have enough levels what we could do is we Could put those torches there to block it up now when you do actually enchant something what you see there the silk touch question mark silk touch is guaranteed the question mark represents you can have other things as well that’ll consume three of your levels and also three lapis lazuli whereas this Would consume two levels two lapis lazuli one level and one lapis lazuli interestingly enough an older version of minecraft when you’d enchant it would take all 30 levels for a level 30 enchant so for instance we would go from 47 to 17 whereas now when we enchant This we go from 47 to 44 which i think is a much better deal also we did get efficiency 4 with this because it actually can give you more than just the enchantment that it says there this one did sometimes it doesn’t sometimes it does and you can even get very lucky and Get a massive combination of enchantments on here which is super nice because then you have all these different things on the pickaxe with only one enchanting cost now let’s say we put an item in here and we see something that we don’t want let’s say we do not want loyalty three well Instead of having to waste all of our three levels and three lapis on loyalty three what we can do is we can perform what’s known as a dummy enchantment now every single time you enchant something there is basically a new enchantment seed or basically the option that you’ll Get from enchanting every single item is changed so for instance right now our option for a book is loyalty three but let’s say we don’t want that and we do a dummy enchantment that is a basically super cheap enchantment to switch around the enchantment seed this and this will Give us unbreaking one which is of course useless but what we can do now is we can put that in here and now it has looting three which is an amazing book to have and because of that we actually didn’t have to spend three lapis in Three levels but just one lap of someone level to reset the enchantment seed and to get us a new enchantment so it’s often a good idea if you have a decent amount of levels is to get yourself some dummy enchanting tools like this because then you can basically go through here And reset the enchantment if you didn’t like the one that’s there to select just do be aware that enchanting an item to make the enchantment seed change dust still take one level and one lapis so if let’s say you’re at 30 levels you’ll probably just want to do a level 30 Enchantment instead of taking yourself down to 29 levels now every item in the game has enchantability this is a very interesting mechanic that isn’t often talked about but basically different tools have different chances of getting better enchantments so this is actually how it works stone has the worst enchantability which means there’s the Least chance of good enchantments when putting it in the table diamond is actually second worst iron is kind of in the middle here wooden pickaxes and netherright pickaxes have the same enchant ability meaning the same chance of good enchantments and also the golden pickaxe actually has the best Enchantability same with armor here it’s very similar so iron chest plate and turtle shell have the worst enchantability for armor then diamond chest plate has the second worst chainmaille chest plate is in the middle here now the right chest plate and leather tunic are in kind of the second To best enchantability and golden chest plate is the best all this really means is that let’s say you’re going to enchant your diamond tools and then upgrade them to netherright it might be wise to upgrade them to netherrate first then enchant them but it’s really up to You overall though let’s say you want a really good enchantment like fortune 3 or sulk touch the chance of getting that in the crafting table with a golden pickaxe is incredibly large not always but incredibly large so for instance there it said in breaking three that gave us efficiency for unbreaking three And silk touch and that’s totally due to the high enchantability there so let’s say you need a very small amount of very good enchantment it might be worthwhile to enchant gold temporarily but of course it’s completely up to you and what you want on your tools but it can Certainly be a good thing to reference if you’re wanting to get maybe a better enchantment on a weaker item also enchant ability works very differently on items that aren’t this exact type so basically these items that are built with netherright gold would all these different items same with the armor here That works with the enchantability system but things like let’s say fishing rods and crossbows and books work a little bit differently so that doesn’t really apply to that now enchanting books and minecraft is a great thing as well because although you don’t often get combinations as it doesn’t generally Give you as good of enchantments it can still be really nice because later on we’ll discuss how you can combine books with tools now if you put a book in the enchanting table here you can often get yourself nice enchantments like this and when enchantment is on a book we can Later use that in the anvil to add it to other items like this just be aware you generally do get worse enchantments with books overall so it’s generally good to enchant your tool first then combine it with an anvil and that actually goes into our next section which is using the Anvil with enchanting so the anvil its strength is to combine and name items as well as repair them and we’ll talk about all those functionalities now just be aware that the anvil is made with three blocks of iron and four iron ingots and because each block of iron is made with Nine iron ingots that means that the anvil uses 31 iron almost half a stack of iron in fact so just be aware when using the anvil that you’re completely sure of the enchantments you’re doing as these only have a limited amount of uses and they are a little bit expensive Because of that so the first thing you can do with enchantment tables is combine books with items and of course these would be enchanted books efficiency 4 plus efficiency 4 gives us efficiency 5. it actually works like that with every enchantment but let’s say we have quick charge two and quick Charge two that gives us quick charge three so basically two enchantments of a low level gives us one higher level so like efficiency four plus efficiency four doesn’t give us efficiency eight gives us efficiency five so you can combine them like that and it does cost Levels also every time you use an item in the enchantment table it does increase the enchantment cost so be aware of that and eventually it is made too expensive now we have the diamond pickaxe with this the second ability we can do is combining items with items and We’ll show that off with books we can put an enchanted book here plus an enchanted book here and that’ll actually give us both enchantments on one book although i would not personally recommend doing this as it does increase the enchantment cost but you can do that If you want you can also do this to combine different tools of the same type so a diamond pickaxe with a diamond pickaxe that will both combine and have both the enchantments put on there so the unbreaking two of this is put on here but be were to always try switching Them as the enchantment cost can lower something like this is 14 levels like this is only 12 levels so it’s cheaper that way also you can add base items on here to repair it so let’s say we break a little with the wall here to wear down Our pickaxe a bit and make it lose a little bit of durability and then we want to fix that so there’s a little bit more durability well we can do that by using the anvil what i mean by base item is what the item you would craft it with Is so for instance diamonds is what you craft the diamond pickaxe out of so using one of these base items repairs a quarter of the tool’s durability but of course this is only one durability gone kind of a waste but let’s say you have this really far down this might be a Good deal just be aware on things like shovels for instance that you would literally be using up to four diamonds to replace a one diamond item however if the enchantments are very good that could be a good option if you do not have mending and as an extra use of the Anvil you can name items now some people think you can only name items like tools you actually can name any item in fact we’ll just name these dark oak blanks right here we’re just going to call them right here we’ll just name them just planks like this and you can see we can Name the entire stack to planks like that and it costs one enchantment cost right there and we can do up to a stack of items at a time so we can even rename this lapis here just to lapis like this or just like this and then you can see Here it’ll make that be now called lapis if we drop it up pick it up again it’s still named lapis but you can use this as well because if we put that in here with this let’s say these would combine for something we could also rename it as We combine it which only costs one additional level so it’s cheaper to name these if you’re trying to combine it with something else as if we try and rename it right now you’ll see the enchantment cost is quite expensive whereas if we were combining with another item and renaming it the Enchantment cost will only be one higher so let’s say the enchantment cost was eight it’d only be nine with renaming it as well what’s kind of interesting is that certain items can only be enchanted in the anvil those are elytra mob heads curved pumpkins shields carrots on a Stick warped fungus on a stick shearers and flint and steel and the enchantments you can put on all these are usually just cursive binding cursive vanishing mending and unbreaking but either way let’s say something like enchanting a shield or enchanting elytra probably is worthwhile and doing that on the anvil Is the only way so with the enchantment table and the anvil you can enchant anything you like but what are the enchantments available for all the different items well there’s three different types there’s main enchantments treasure enchantments and also curses for curses there’s cursive vanishing meaning that if you die with That item on you or equipped it disappears and there’s cursive binding which only works for armor and if the armor is on you you can never take it off now for treasure enchantments this means you cannot get it through the enchantment table but instead only through villagers or finding it in Structures there is frost walker which is really cool it makes there be ice underneath your shoes when you walk on different things of water or oceans then there is soul speed 3 soul speed 2 and soul speed 1 and they basically make it so you’re very quick on soul sand if You’re in the nether and there’s mending which is quite a popular enchantment which makes your tools replenish their durability if you gain experience while they’re equipped or in your hand for standard enchantments there’s protection for this gives you protection from every single type of damage you could incur Then there is fire protection for that specialized protection against fire feather falling four is something you put on your boots that protects you from fall damage very very useful with the lytra or if you want to not fall cliffs and die glass protection for of course protects you from explosions projectile Protection protects you from arrows and shulker pellets and things like that respiration 3 makes you be able to breathe longer underwater aqua affinity makes mining blocks underwater be easier thorns three makes it safe mobs hits you or players hit you they have a little bit of damage taken on them as if they Were punching thorns or spikes depth strider 3 makes it so you can kind of walk easier underwater as you usually walk quite slow there multi shot makes your crossbows fire three arrows instead of one or three fireworks if you’re doing that quick charge 3 makes cross Supposed to be able to be loaded quicker the piercing enchantment makes it so you can shoot one arrow through multiple mobs sharpness makes it’s that damage towards all mobs is more smite adds a massive amount of damage to undead mobs when you’re fighting them bane of arthropods to spiders it also applies Slowness to spiders knockback 2 shoots your mob further back than it normally would when you hit it with a sword fire aspect 2 makes the mobs you hit turn on fire looting 3 makes it so you get more drops from mobs that you kill sweeping edge 3 makes hitting multiple mobs on a Sword work better efficiency 5 makes you be able to mine blocks quicker with tools silk touch gives tools the ability to break certain blocks you normally couldn’t pick up like let’s say glass panes like that and breaking 3 increases the durability on items by making them only randomly lose durability when you Break things and not always lose one durability fortune 3 makes mining oars and other items that do not drop themselves give you more of them in return which is super useful for let’s say diamond mining power 5 makes bows incredibly powerful and gives a much more damage sort of like sharpness for The bow punch 2 is basically knockback for your bow flame is basically fire aspect for your bow infinity gives your bow infinite arrows as long as you have one arrow in your inventory luck of the c3 makes fishing more profitable with more treasure items when you’re fishing With it layer 3 makes fish come to your fishing rod quicker a little 2-3 makes it so that the trident when you throw it will come back to you and go into your inventory and paling 5 makes the damage to underwater mobs with the trident higher riptide 3 makes flying through The air with a trident when it’s raining or flying underwater a super cool added benefit of the trident channeling on the trident means that if there’s a thunderstorm and you hit a mob with a trident lightning will come and strike that mob which is very useful and that’s literally every single enchantment in The game now something interesting to note is that certain enchantments are mutually exclusive for instance infinity and mending cannot both be on a bow you can only have one type of protection per piece of armor so for instance you cannot have protection for and fire protection for on the exact same helmet Also things like sharpness and smite are mutually exclusive as well riptide and channeling as well some other enchantments as well now let’s say that you’ve enchanted an item and you do not like the enchantment that’s on there or let’s say you find an item that’s very useless but has a great enchantment on It and you want to get the experience from that well that’s what the grindstone is for the grindstone is crafted with one stone slab two sticks like this and two planks like this gives you the grindstone now with the grindstone we can repair and disenchant now repairing what they basically mean Is you can put two tools in there and it will technically combine them however that’s kind of useless as you can combine two tools in your inventory on your personal inventory or in the crafting table here you may be asking if you can do that why would you ever do it On the anvil and the reason why is that it just gets rid of the enchantments when you do it so you can basically put two of these in here and you’ll just get rid of the enchantments but what’s nice about the thing here is that you can disenchant an item giving you experience In return you cannot get rid of curses but you can get rid of any single enchantment so for instance we could put this book in here disenchant it like that and we get some experience in return let’s say we do not like the enchantments on here we could sadly Disenchant it like that and get some experience in return as well this is very useful because if you enchant something you don’t like what you got or let’s say you’re enchanting something just to get another enchantment like i was discussing earlier like those wooden pickaxes we had right over here then you Can maybe disenchant this item to get a bit of experience back from that as well and that is how you enchant in minecraft if you enjoyed this video make sure to press the like button subscribe comment share also feel free to join the official i
