This Minecraft 1.18 Beta Changes EVERYTHING About World Generation

Hello i’m appiah x toy cad and welcome back start minecraft update news videos they’re the best type of update news to share with you all because a brand new minecraft 1.18 beta is available for minecraft bedrock that’s right java’s been doing all of these experimental snapshots that have looked amazing over

The past few weeks and bedrock’s been kind of left in the dust until today where we finally get to see bedrock’s take on all of the new generation features coming in 1.18 they really are overhauling so much that you might not have known about and so in today’s video

I want to share with you the highs and really the lows of this because there is a very serious downside to all of these changes but there’s also a lot of upside that i wanted to dive into right this minute and so let’s just jump into this

One because it goes about saying that the moment you load into any new world of the new generation you’re going to be able to spot that things have changed even in the most subtle of ways your spot that something is very slightly different and in today’s video i wanted

To dive through all of those individual differences because when you see them all together it’s just like oh so minecraft looks different now but it’s very interesting to dive into them individually and so let’s do that precisely and of course the new mountains and the new uh you know cliffs

And caves are the new obvious things to point out but there’s a lot of non-obvious things that have been mentioned as well such as for instance the new river generation so as you can see looking around the world we now uh no longer have these same types of

Rivers we had before where basically no matter what diamond no matter where it was in your world it would look exactly the same no now we have much more natural rivers here’s what it looks like from a you know ground point of view uh that can actually widen and thicken and

Change as they go about the place which i think is really really nice even right here you can see it just looks much nicer than an existing river because of the first major change which is making it so that the surface decoration can detect the difference between when blocks are

Generated underwater and underground and indeed improving the transition between the surface and that water to make it much much smoother and just more enjoyable to look at again this is a much more natural river and i enjoy the way that rivers look now i think they’re actually an addition to minecraft rather

Than subtraction and that is a really nice change but it’s not the only one this update also adds new and improved terrain and biome generation algorithm which will create more natural terrain and biome transitions or in layman’s terms uh the transitions between various biomes from desert to uh through uh you

Know planes for instance is going to be much much smoother than it was before instead of weird lines that almost go at like geometric squares as you can see you know deserts and you know like planes biomes will fade more seamlessly into each other and although deserts and

Planes have a really weird interaction i would argue this looks significantly worse than before if you look at most biomes they have a significant boost from this like here is this uh you know the flower forest fading into the plains it kind of happens and then there’s the

Edge and then you’re there and it’s really nice and then although there’s a part of a river in between you can see how it continues over here and it’s really nice that like the biomes stay relatively untouched but the way they transition into each other has changed which really does actually make a

Substantial change to how the minecraft world feels and it’s not just alone by the way because there’s another change they’ve made which kind of is uh related to this and that is the addition of microbiomes so this is the most ludicrous microbiome right here i do

Have to say this is a mesa biome that is what is this like seven blocks wide and 15 blocks long it looks like a slice of pizza it’s the most ludicrously tiny uh mesa blind but it is still technically it may supply him that exists right here

In between the desert and in between what i can only assume is more plane spine over here except it’s not just a normal plane spine it’s a plane’s biome that transitions into a mountain no longer are mountains uh beholden to just being a type of uh you know like a biome

By themselves but instead we can find mountains mixed in with every other biome by the way look there’s another micro mesa biome right here look how tiny this one is like it’s ludicrous how tiny these maces are which again i actually think is a good thing because

That means that around these areas you should still be able to find a lot of gold because it’s technically a mesa and so uh all those uh same things will apply actually not let’s skip into this next point because interestingly enough oh look at this we found ourselves into

An aquifer uh very very exciting that there’s new cave generation to be found around here i’m just i’m just looking for new golf though okay so directly above me is the mesa biome only on this half of the ravine so you can see that most of the ravine looks like nothing

And then over here it’s entirely different with one vein of gold two veins of gold three four i’m assuming this is the same vein but yeah oh actually it’s only three but the fact that you can just find lots of gold under mesa biomes and because they’re microbiomes on the surface sometimes

You’re gonna be digging around and you’re gonna find some gold and that’s interesting because it’s not just gold uh happening as a result microbiomes every other ore has this same thing now too where they spawn in much higher quantities in some cases like coal uh but also there is now something brand

New called the uh it’s it’s meant to call it’s called large or veins and the idea is is that all shouldn’t just generate in chunks of like three to eight like it does right now it’ll be able to generate in much higher numbers under certain circumstances

So uh exactly how this takes effect is something uh we’ve yet to fully see i’ve done a lot looking around the beta and you can’t fully uh notice it but supposedly it’s in there i imagine that means it’s rare or it needs to be tweaked or it’s one of those accidental

Not working features um as you can but you know actually let me let me show you that it’s not working so since it’s so hard to find these ore veins naturally just looking around and creative to actually showcase them to you i’ve removed the stone around them and you

Can see how like okay this is six to seven iron and then next to that is another six to seven iron and then next to that is another two iron if you were to dig around this first iron or vein you would find uh you know a three four

More within the same area and the idea is is that once you finish a vein you’ll know that a nearby vein of the same type is somewhere in that same area so let’s find another example of this shall we perhaps um here is some iron ore over

Here i’ve got a decent chance of mining around it and finding some more iron ore or maybe just lagging minecraft a ton i’ve also got a chance of not finding iron ore so again veins aren’t a guaranteed thing uh but it does mean the ores try to clump together um which

Means there’s a little bit of strategy to mining now which is really great but anyway we’re on the surface talking about surface things do you want to see those some more so one of the biggest changes in the generation is that mountains exist in pretty much every

Biome type now which means you don’t just find snow-capped peaks and the you know the places where the goats are being high you’ll find a random plane spine for example goes as high as 110 blocks sounds pretty big but i mean also whoa look at this look at this like gap

And cave in between here and there this is this is amazing it’s like a ravine but on steroids because it’s a cave entrance look at this i uh i i love this sort of entrance because now by the way we have not just uh underwater uh cave

Entrances we have uh dry cave entrances as they like to call them which i think is a funny term uh where you can actually enter entirely uh via the ground and as you can see despite having not broken a single block from the surface i’ve managed to get myself down

To minus six minus seven minus twenty and there we go we found ourselves all the way down to diamond layer and we’ve actually found a hole in the in the world generation here it looks like i don’t think this is intentional but i love this while this exists is it a bug

I mean it’s it’s going down perfect chunk boundaries but that’s fascinating for some reason okay yeah i guess some some diamonds got cut off this is this is fascinating to me i wonder how this happened i swear this wasn’t me anyway my point that was meant to be that you

Can get all the way down to you know bedrock level which is now double as low down but you can actually get down below bedrock level if you really want to as it so turns out oh a ton of chunks are generating without the bedrock floor

That should be a fun new challenge how fast can you drown yourself okay how fast can you suffocate yourself at the edge of the world let’s see who can do that the best i guess so here for example is a mesa biome a mesa biome obviously looks nothing like this in

Present-day minecraft and so are substantially changed to incorporate hills in a different way again mountains caves and cliffs doesn’t just mean one brand new biome it means every biome has the potential to be weird and quirky like this i think this is actually like a what a microbiome is meant to look

Like except it’s a microbiome off a mesa that also is a cliff that also then has a uh you know like a noise type cave going under it actually this might be a noodle cave you know i don’t know all the cave type names i just know that this is

Stunning to see uh in minecraft and uh it’s the type of generation that gets me excited as i see it while playing around in creative it has to be said but you could see how previously mesa biomes would never go above really about y100 and here we have a mesa biome which is

Going all the way up to 160 blocks tool and that’s on top of other mesa peaks and type of mesa peaks you get some very different vistas and views and uh although it’s probably a lot harder to traverse by uh it has to be said this is very annoying this flashing effect uh

It’s probably hard to traverse this stuff by foot it has to be said that otherwise it’s got a really really nice effect but yeah if you think you liked mesa biomes before just be sure you’ll like them now did you think you liked the mega tiger biome before well you’re

Gonna like it a lot more now um there is a lot more verticality in minecraft which of course always has to be said in the up direction by the way here is more proof of how ludicrous the current cloud level is like it’s a little bit low

Given this is just like the start of a mountain range that then continues to go up higher um but as you can tell and as it’s very obvious by now i hope they’ve also added a ton of verticality in minecraft in the other direction because now what can happen is minecraft can

Have these wonderful little you know different levels of water but here is like a it almost looks like a frozen waterfall but it’s just a ton of series of lakes which don’t necessarily drain into each other fully but they do make this beautiful beautiful vista and then

Goes all the way down here and again verticality is in minecraft in a very real way this is just a view you couldn’t have gone before this update unless you’re playing the yeti map in uh minecraft’s glide mode but otherwise it’s like yeah look at this cave look at

The intensity of looking over there and tell me you don’t explore it and see what’s actually going on over there huh tell me you don’t want to see like ooh well it just goes entirely dark there’s got to be something exciting let’s find out what it is actually oh it’s actually

More verticality in the cave because then it drops off another waterfall and it heads down here and then you know what long story short uh minecraft has gotten wacky huh and so yeah this is an example of like a cave linking two other caves that then leads us into another

Cave and i one of the things i love about this update and it’s been especially refined in this beta is the links between caves have been done in a really really fascinating way like uh almost every cave will link into other caves that will link into other caves

And sometimes you go for little carver caves and then sometimes you go through spaghetti caves to get to carver caves to get to it’s it’s all insanity and i love the the the principle of it at least and i love the way uh that it applies as i as

I dive through in creative indeed so the final positive change i’d like to talk about is a little bit abstract so bear with me on this one because when we start a brand new world the game is going to be working overtime before it spawns you in to make sure that it

Spawns you in a suitable position closer to your world origin have you ever noticed how sometimes in bedrock you’re spawn at coordinates of like four thousand and ninety six and four or something uh it seems a little bit ludicrous um but the new world generation oh we don’t have coordinates

On well you know what you can have to trust me that we just loaded into a world and i can guarantee that we’re pretty close to the world origin we’re not thousands of blocks away instead we’re literally zero zero which is in my opinion the ideal uh world spawn that

Should be what they’re going for um but you can see how like yeah actually uh wilds will spawn you closer to the origin of the world which is much better for seat hunting reasons it’s better for you know being able to tell your coordinates to friends it’s so much

Easier to say i’m a you know 69 420 than it is to say i’m at 4 327 and 827 minus you know no one wants to say that what people do want to say is funny short numbers and what people also want to say is wow have you noticed how much

Better beaches have gotten yeah i sure do love these beaches uh because i think that you know you look at them you’re like okay they’re a little bit long maybe but stone beaches are fascinating and the fact that you don’t really see them currently is a shame and also the

Fact that we don’t really have beaches at all to differentiate again this is the land to water transition again uh they’re making it much better and much more i don’t even know if realistic is the term but it’s what my brain is going for it looks like an actual uh beach it

Looks like actual real-life human terrain and that is a big strength and uh you might notice there was a jungle over there before that i’m now not seeing because there is one big downside to pay for all of this amazing everything i’ve said so far is positive until right now sadly because

Even if you have a high-end device uh i’m talking about the mobile spectrum right here i only ever do betas on my phone because you don’t want to do betas on a major device it’ll it’ll it’ll cause you some problems trust me but um so i’m playing on my samsung galaxy s20

Plus before this update uh at least i should say um when i first got the phone uh it was getting about 24 28 chunks of render distance do you want to know what it’s capped at in this update well you know like 20 18 maybe 16 no no it’s

Capped at 12. the red distance options are 6 to 12 chunks i have to play minecraft like i’ve got a pc from 2006 that just doesn’t just doesn’t know it doesn’t have a graphics card and doesn’t understand how to play minecraft i have to play like that even on again a

Relatively new relatively high power um i i think that i think you can buy an s20 plus ultra for like uh five six hundred dollars still it’s an expensive phone right and so um that means that if you’re a lauren device you’re gonna be capped at an even lower number in those

Settings and even when they cap that render distance super super low which causes some problems for like oh i can’t see what’s over there unless i look sideways because of the weird render distance camera um even if you cap it super low you’re still going to notice there’s some performance issues you

Might have noticed them some of those in this video hopefully you didn’t and i we’ve done a good enough job of putting those together but yeah there is a big downside and all of these wonderful new features have had a performance here we theorized the reason that they were

Taking so long on bedrock is because the performance hit and it seems as though that has been proven correct by well you know the performance hit and uh yeah presumably in the next few months they can be working on that uh at least some amount oh look there’s vines here do you

Think that’s a sign of the lush cave uh i i bet it is if i’m wrong i’m gonna seems oh my god see look at this this is worth it in my opinion having lower render distances sucks but as someone who plays real men rounds anyway um 12 is about what they

Cap you out there and being able to explore all of this might be a worthwhile trader but 1.18 is very much a trader unlike 1.17 which was just new features 1.18 brings a new generation and certain new features are more easily obtained but the special thing about it

Is that it is a trade-off update you get amazing worlds that i can’t get my mind over but also you get amazing performance hits that i can’t get my mind over and thank you very much for watching this video i hope you all enjoyed it um i’m looking forward to
