Over the years Redstone has literally made me a better computer scientist it’s one of the best things about Minecraft but let’s be honest it kinda sucks So I wanted to do something about it and by eye I mean um over the past three months I led a team of developers in the creation of redstone tools a mod for Minecraft packed with quality of life features for logical redstoners and of course Redstone tools is completely free and Open source and it will stay that way forever or at least as long as I’m in charge of it now even though I was in charge I was not the one doing the heavy lifting these past few months the stars of the show are the developers you guys Are amazing and there’s no way I could have done this without you but anyways let’s dive into Redstone tools and see what it’s all about the first thing to decide with this mod was what do people actually need I knew going into this that a lot of people already use similar Mods so chances are if there’s something you can already do in world edit or carpet Redstone tools does not implement it instead we focused on the less common features that strictly improve the user experience now we didn’t have a huge team of developers so to make things Easier on ourselves most of the features only work in single player version 1.18.2 but if there’s enough demand and people are willing to help out this is totally up for change in the future and I’ll let you guys know in the comments if that changed but now the features First up is my absolute favorite feature of this mod the macro menu one of the biggest things that slows Builders down is typing out long commands over and over again with the macro menu you can make custom macros that run as many commands as you want and you combine Them to a key as well to access this menu go to options controls macros when you first download the mod you’ll have one macro called redstoner this is just a default macro we added to give you an example if I go to edit the Redstone or Macro you can see that it’s set up to run all these commands in order if I don’t like one of the commands I can remove it and if I want to add more I can just add more let’s go ahead and set this to the r key and now when I press R All the commands have been run or if you want to run the macro manually you can do slash macro redstoner and of course you can make your own macros too it’s completely up to you for example let’s make two more macros I’ll make one called push which executes move one and I’ll make another one called pull which executes move One backwards and now I can literally select the Redstone build and move it around using the macros I just made that’s so cool now let’s go over the commands most commands have arguments but any command that doesn’t have a required argument Can be found in the regular keybinds menu in the section for Redstone tools but this list right here is not comprehensive so let’s go over everything first quick TP simply look somewhere use Quick TP and it’ll teleport you 50 blocks in that direction this is super useful when you have large Redstone builds and you’re running around a lot I don’t know how I survived before having this now if you don’t like 50 blocks then you can change the distance argument to something else and of course if you don’t want to type out that special distance every time just Use a macro God macros are so cool next we’ve got two toggle commands that are pretty useful for building there’s air place which when toggled on allows you to place blocks in the air the nice thing about airplace is that it doesn’t affect how you place blocks if you’re Already looking at one so me personally I just keep this on all the time I don’t really see a downside the other toggle is autodust which when toggled on will automatically place redstone on top of the blocks that you build and a little cool thing we found is that it makes it Super fast to build glass towers as well switching to more of the small utility commands we have signal strength Barrel or slash SS this one is pretty simple you just run slash SS with a number to receive that barrel for example slash ss7 will give you a barrel preloaded With a signal strength of seven another great utility is slash glass this one is a bit weirder but if you color code stuff a lot it’s actually pretty useful slash glass gives you the glass variant of the block you’re looking at and the reverse is true as well for example Let’s say my Hotbar is pretty full and I’m building something with cyan if I notice that I need a glass tower I can quickly slash glass to build the Tower and slash glass again to go back to the wool once again these are not game breaking features some of them are just Small things that are nice to have next we have slash copystate this is kind of like the vanilla pick block function except it gives you an exact copy and I mean exact if it’s a repeater it’ll keep the tick setting the power State even the direction the main thing I’ve used This for is setting a repeater lock to a specific state for example let’s say I have a shift register and I want it to have one zero zero one I could shift in those bits or I could use copystate to grab a powered repeater and place the data directly so that’s pretty cool Especially when you’re testing things over and over again the last utility command is slash base which can help you convert numbers from one base to another for example if I didn’t know that 1001 was 9 I could run this command and as you can see it tells me that it’s 9. yes You could just Google this but that’s probably slower the whole idea of the mod is to save your time and improve your experience real quick I also want to mention that we have a redstone tools Discord server if you’re interested in contributing requesting a feature or Even reporting a bug that’s the place to do it the link is in the description alright back to commands the next Suite of commands are what I like to call world edit extensions you can imagine these as like a DLC to world edit they’re meant to feel like the rest of The world edit commands and they probably won’t work without world edit install first we have slash slash color code to use this simply make a selection give it a color argument and it will automatically color code everything in your selection to that color and don’t worry it won’t force your blocks to be Wool or anything if you build with concrete for example it’ll stay concrete next we’ve got our stack this is the same thing as world at its stack but with an added argument called offset let’s say I have a wire like this and I want to have seven more copies on top of It so that it looks like this if I select the wire and run slash stack 7Up that’s not what I wanted in fact there’s no way to solve this problem in constant time but the offset between one wire to the next wire is two blocks so if you do Slash rstack seven up two it does exactly what we want it Stacks the selection seven times up but with an offset of two blocks meaning each stack only differs from the previous one by two next is a simple world edit extension called update any redstoneer knows that Redstone doesn’t always like To fully update itself sometimes there are weird artifacts especially when you use paste or stack so running this command will just update all the Redstone in your selection note that this doesn’t necessarily fix all the visual bugs but hopefully it at least fixes the functionality the last world Edit extension is a really cool one it’s called read and it allows you to read a binary number made out of blocks for example let’s say I have a circuit with a binary number on these lamps and I want to know what that number is I can Select the most significant bit for the first position and the least significant bit for the second position and run slash read and as you can see it tells me what the binary number is which is super cool and of course if you’re not using Redstone lamps or if you’re using A different spacing between the blocks you can still use slash read you’ll just need to change the arguments to match your situation and that’s about it for world edit extensions I’m really happy with how these turned out and I hope you guys find them useful the last feature Of this mod is two new game rules the first one is do container drops which when set to false stops containers like barrels or chests from dropping their items when you break them you might be wondering isn’t this the same thing as the vanilla do tile drops game rule Surprisingly no setting do tile drops to false does not stop barrels and chests from dropping their items so that’s why we made one for containers as well the other game rule is do block updates after edit when enabled your build will automatically update itself after running a world edit command like paste Or set and yeah you can enable or disable these game rules just like you would any other they even show up in the GUI when creating a new world with that I’ve covered all the features of redstone tools if you’re planning on using this just remember we are not Professionals we are just kids with a passion so if you run into any issues join the Discord and let us know or better yet become a contributor and fix the bug yourself enjoy the mod and peace out guys Video
