What’s up everyone and welcome to another Minecraft farm tutorial in this video we’re going to be looking at bamboo everything in this video will apply to both bedrock and Java edition first we’ll be going over harvesting the bamboo manually I’ll give you some tips and tricks on how to semi-automate that Process and then at the end of the video we’ll look at these fully automated bamboo Farm designs and we’ll even talk a little bit about this gigantic semi-automated bamboo farm right here this way you’ll be able to decide which farming method fits your needs the best You might not even need a farm to get the amount of bamboo that you desire Gathering the bamboo by hand is very quick and easy but use a sword when doing this the sword will cut down the bamboo much faster than all other tools you can really shred through the bamboo If you’re using a sword and since it grows so tall you really Harvest more than you would think just this itty bitty patch halfway grown gave us five full stacks and if we waited for it to fully grow you get an unbelievable amount I mean just from this teeny teeny Tiny patch you get two full rows of bamboo I mean that’s crazy it just grows so fast and so tall that you know you might not even necessarily need an automated Farm you know if you just plant a patch next to your base so that it constantly grows and you’ll be able To harvest it for all your scaffolding sticks or bamboo wood needs but maybe you have an AFK area for farms and that’s why you want to build an AFK farm for your bamboo which is why I’ll be going over the AFK design at the end of This video but you know if you really want massive amounts of bamboo and you don’t actually want to take the time to cut it down you know maybe you’re building a mansion out of bamboo wood or something like that this farm right here is expandable and very very efficient But since this Farm is fairly large and complex I won’t be going over this specific design in this video once I work out the Kinks for this design and get the tutorial made I’ll try to remember to post a card here on the screen linking it and also in the video Description just in case this is the design that you’re interested in but that’s not to say for this episode that we will be abandoning this Al together in fact you can use some of the pieces of this Farm to assist you with manual ually collecting the bamboo for example You can build the collection system underneath a little patch of bamboo that way when you cut it down by hand you can just activate the collection system to pick it up for you this will save a bunch of time so that you don’t actually have to go around picking up the bamboo By hand now of course you could just build this first and then Place dirt on top of it to plant the bamboo on but if you already have a patch of bamboo or a place in mind for your bamboo you don’t necessarily have to get rid of it you Could just dig a hole underneath it and insert the cart collection system there or also instead of the collection system you could build the Flying Machine Harvester we’ll talk more about that later on but building either one would be much easier than building the gigantic bamboo design and both would Save you tons of time when it came to harvesting your bamboo but as for this collection system once you have your whole dug or your area selected we’re going to start off by placing a chest off to the side and then we’re going to place a line of Hoppers going into that Chest and going into each other your mine carts are going to rest on top of these Hoppers really all this is is is going to be a rail system underneath your bamboo if you built this above ground it might be a little easier but if you decided to build this underground You’ll have to do one row of rails at a time so just like any rail system we’re going to place powered rails on the back wall so that the minecart hits the back wall and comes back and then on top of the hopper it needs to have a powered Rail next to a regular Rail and then some more powered rails next to that and depending on how long your rail system is you may need more or less powered rails it’s just always good to test it but before you can test it you need to place redstone torches underneath the Powered rails so that they are powered also these rails need to be directly underneath the dirt block with the bamboo growing on it but once you have them powered place your mine cart with hopper on the unpowered one then just press a button right here and make sure That it goes all the way now if it gets stuck and doesn’t make it all the way you can always just add more powered rails that’s why when building any mine cart system it’s always good to test it as you go to make sure that you have enough power to actually send the Minecart all all the way to its destination now depending on how big your bamboo field is you might be able to just use the same mine cart for the second row the only issue is that Hopper mine carts only have five slots so they can only hold five Stacks so depending On how big your bamboo field is it might fill up and not be able to pick up all of the bamboo but if your field isn’t very big you can curve the rail track back upon itself like so saving you a little bit of material since you won’t Need a second Hopper mine cart if you curve the first one back on itself but also depending on the orientation that you built this Farm in you may run into some issues with the ends of the rail they might connect to each other and try to go different directions if this does Happen simply break out the block on the first row and place an additional temporary Rail and then place your second rail like so and then break out the the temporary one this will prevent them from connecting to each other um and then of course just go back and Power your rails by placing a redstone torch underneath them and now be sure to test it to make sure the hopper mine cart goes all the way around loops around hits the wall and comes back now I wouldn’t send the Minecart more than two rows you know even with two rows Bamboo just produces so much that depending on how big your field is the hopper mine cart might get filled up so I would limit it to either single rows like you see here or just the double rows looping back on itself just depending on how big your bamboo field Is so for the next few examples I will just do the single mine cart row so that you have an example of both after play ing your row be sure that if your ends are connecting to each other to place a temporary rail coming out of the one Before it so that the new one doesn’t connect but we’ll have an unpowered rail on top of the hopper followed by a regular Rail and then some more powered rails to boost it along then some more regular rails and then powered rails at the very end and then be sure to power All the rails except for the one on top of the hopper and that’s pretty much it you know continue this pattern all the way across so that you have rails underneath your entire bamboo field but also be sure to test it as you go and Also you know your your ends may or may not connect to each other it just depends on if you’re building this from north to south or east to west um rails like to attach in a certain orientation I forget which one that is but only you Know 50% of you will have the problem of your ins trying to connect to each other but if you do have that problem at the very beginning you will notice so just be sure to continue placing temporary rails each time you place the end rails And it will save you a lot of hassle because as long as the previous rail has two rails connected to it it will not change its orientation when a new rail is placed next to it so you’ll only have this problem on the rails at the very Very end and if you mess up like this you will have to kind of go back and and and fix the previous rows like you see here so I’m going to have to break these out replace this temporary one to place this one and then Place Another Temporary one right here at the end of this row so that I can place the final rail on the row that I just made and so you know it it’s a little bit of a hassle again this just depends on which orientation you’re building this but Once you get all of your rails built underneath your bamboo then just make sure to test it one last time to make sure none of the mine carts get stuck and then you’re done so when you’re finished place redstone dust on top of all of these blocks next to the hopper Mine carts coming out of the button and then just fill in the hole be sure to leave a little bit of room so that you can access the chest but that’s it you know building the rail system might take a little bit of time but it’s just so nice not to have to Wander around inside of the bamboo trying to pick everything up you know bamboo is solid and so it can be kind of a headache to collect all the bamboo by hand in the middle of a little patch of it you know so with this you just press The button and it will pick up most of the bamboo now of course bamboo outside of the rail system won’t get picked up or bamboo that’s sitting on top of other bamboo will also not get picked up so you know it’s not perfect you know but It picks up the majority of it and all the rest of it it you could just kind of run around and pick up or if you’re someone like me you can just kind of ignore it and let it despawn naughty naughty and one last thing you could do To improve this design is build a wall where the Minecarts stop so like right here above this chest there is no mineart so if we just build a wall right here um it will have to be a really tall wall you know but it will trap the bamboo from getting outside of the Minecart system and instead of the automated collection system or in addition to you could always build bu a flying machine Harvester to cut down the bamboo for you I have a video on flying machines and this harvesting sitethe that I will link here on the screen and In the video description in case you want a block by block build tutorial now the large bamboo farm that I will tutorial next time will have both the automated collection system and this automated flying Harvester but that’s not to say that you could just build them separate you know you don’t need Necessarily to connect the systems together to make it nice from the push of a button you know you could just build this flying machine Harvester around a bamboo field build and then run around pick it up or you know you could just build the collection system Underneath it like we just went over and it will pick up most of the bamboo you know it doesn’t really have to be fancy but for now let’s move on to the final design that I have for you for this video and that is the fully automated Design now they are very similar to these sugar cane Farms that I went over in our last video they are basically exactly the same except for the Water Source being needed now uh I experimented making these really tall since bamboo can grow really tall but the problem with this is that the hopper Mine cart fills up and leaves bamboo behind you know it it’s surprising like how much bamboo actually produces so you want to make sure that you build this short enough or small enough that the hopper mine cart won’t fill up you know so I experimented just raising it one Block but I finally came to the conclusion that you should just build it exactly like the sugar cane Farms you know as short as you can possibly go you can also make this as long or as short as you would like to make it you know Start off by placing a chest with a hopper going into it and then place down blocks coming out of the hopper going as long as you want the farm to be you know so if you want it to be 10 blocks long or if you want it to be up to 60 blocks Long you know just make sure that you don’t go outside of simulation distance so keep this within like 64 blocks long at the max and then once you have your blocks placed place a block at the very end then place down your rails going all the way across it but we’re going to Place a block diagonally up from the hopper to give the mine cart something to sit next to then we’re going to place a powered rail on top of the hopper skip at least one rail and then Place more powered rails and then Place powered rails throughout the the rail line just To make sure that the mine cart can go all the way you know this will require a little bit of testing just to make sure that the minecart is powered enough but we’re going to place solid blocks next to these rails with either a redstone Torch or a lever on top of them to power the rails levers might be a little cheaper but Redstone torches might also be cheaper if you have lots of extra Redstone but once you power your rails place your Hopper mine cart on top of this Hopper and then go ahead and place A button and just test it just to make sure that the hopper goes all the way once you’ve tested it to make sure that it goes all the way we’re going to place dirt above this rail line like so this is where we’re going to plant our bamboo So next up grab your bamboo and plant it on top of this dirt also if you’re building this like underground or something like that just know that bamboo does need a light level of nine or greater in order to grow now I didn’t actually know this until just the other Day but sugarcane and Cactus actually don’t need any light whatsoever but bamboo does so we’re going to place solid blocks behind the bamboo but what I like to do is I like to use light blocks you know I usually use Jackal lanterns just because they’re really Cheap but if you have access to like sea lanterns or frog lights those would work as well you know or you could just use regular blocks if you would like and use torches around the farm to light it up totally up to you but once you get a Line of blocks behind the bamboo now we’re going to place pistons on top of these blocks facing the bamboo like so this is what will cut down the bamboo when it’s ready then we’re going to turn around and place observers on top of those Pistons also facing the bamboo and When it comes to The Observers you could actually skip like every other Observer if you want to just to make it a little cheaper it will reduce the rates slightly but you know it’ll still work you know as long as one of The Observers gets triggered it will trigger the Entire row of Pistons so it’s totally up to you whether you want to use all of The Observers or if you want to cheap out and then work your way up you know sometimes I start off with only like 50% of The Observers and then just build Them as I go but once you get that done we’re going to encase it all in glass um I just like using glass if you’re building it outside so that it still gets sunlight you know but you could encase it in any blocks that you would Like it’s just to make sure that the bamboo can’t get out of the farm and then we need to come around to the back and place solid blocks behind the Pistons and then place redstone dust on top of these solid blocks this is what will activate the Pistons when The Observers notice the bamboo grows and now all that’s left is to attach the Redstone that we just placed down here to the minecart so that it tells the minecart to move so start off by placing a redstone repeater on maximum delay going into the block next to the Minecart make sure that that repeater is on maximum delay but now we just need to run the Redstone from up here down to that repeater the most compact way to do this is to Place Glass diagonally down from this Redstone line right here and then diagonally down from that glass That you placed and then a solid block behind that repeater and then three red stone dust so glass doesn’t pinch redstone and repeaters can pull Redstone signal out from blocks so that’s why that that works the way it does but you could also just build a staircase of Solid blocks going down to that repeater and run the Redstone that way now depending on how long you made this if you made it more than 15 blocks long you will need a repeater somewhere down here in order to refresh the signal Redstone can only travel up to 15 blocks at Maximum strength so you can count out 15 from the bottom where the repeater attached PES and that’s only as far as it will go so all of these down here won’t actually activate the mine cart so to resolve this we just need to place a repeater somewhere down here to refresh The signal so we’re just going to place a repeater coming out of this Redstone line right here and then we just need to run the signal from this repeater down to the other repeater so we’re going to place Some solid blocks going diagonally down from this just so that we can run The Redstone down toward the other repeater now to be completely honest I rarely actually count my Redstone um if if a section looks really long I just throw a repeater in there you know like I probably place a repeater every like 10 blocks or so rather than every 15 you Know so it’s up to you if you want to count out 15 Redstone and then place your repeater that is you know perfectly fine that’s actually better than just guessing but if you want to guess you know just just know that that works too but once you know that you have Repeaters so that all of your observers will activate the mine cart then you’re done now all that’s left is to watch it just to make sure that it works you know it should activate the mine cart at the same time that the Pistons activate and There you go you now have a fully AFK bamboo Farm but again these fully automated Farms are very nice because they’re AFK friendly you know but the rates are not going to be quite as good as just cutting down a massive patch of bamboo you know but if you’re just Afking other Farms or something like that it will produce quite a lot you know bamboo grows really fast but that’s all we got for this episode tune in next time where I will hopefully tutorial out this monstrous bamboo design so if you want all the bamboo in the world you Will be able to do that but that’s all we got for this video thank you so so much for watching I really hope you enjoyed it if you did don’t forget to like
