Welcome back to the second part of our Infdev Adventures. Today, we are going to explore every block and mob in this first version of Infdev. As you can probably tell, there are a lot of differences from how this version normally looks. The whole engine has been changed with the one from release 1.2.5 and commands have been added to make the exploration easier.
Classic World Generation
The classic world generation with obsidian walls looks quite different in release 1.20.4, the latest version as of recording. This version of Infdev is a classic representation of Minecraft’s early stages.
Block Showcase
In this version, the slab behaves differently – you can’t place a top slab and you can’t stack them. Sand and gravel also have a unique behavior, appearing at the lowest air block next to the block you place them on. The sponge block, which absorbs water in Indev, does nothing in this version. TNT behaves exactly like it did in Indev, and the furnace and chests function as expected.
Water and Lava Mechanics
In the original version, water and lava don’t tick, so they stay in one place. However, in the updated version, water behaves exactly as you would expect, ticking and flowing as it does in modern Minecraft.
Mob Showcase
The mobs in this version use the default player hurt noise and the old AI, which isn’t very efficient. The creeper, skeleton, zombie, spider, and the giant zombie all behave similarly to their modern counterparts, with a few differences in their behavior and appearance.
The giant zombie, in particular, has an AI similar to other mobs, but with a shorter attack range. In the original Indev, their attack range is pretty short, and you have to get inside of them to get hit. However, in the updated version, their attack range has been fixed, making them more challenging to deal with.
