The Starter Kit Mod for Minecraft
Starting out on a new world, regardless of it being multiplayer or singleplayer, can be difficult for some Minecraft players. This is likely due to the need of collecting resources to craft basic tools and supplies. It depends on the seed used for the world’s creation, as island or desolate areas can be challenging to enjoy. Solving this can be done with the Starter Kit mod, for Forge or Fabric versions of Minecraft. Using it on your server or solo world allows you to make a preset of items for players to receive upon joining. Whether you want diamond gear or basic supplies, you have plenty of possibilities with this mod. As for setting it up, Apex Hosting has created a video to show you how to install and use Starter Kit in Minecraft.
How to Install the Starter Kit Mod
To install the Starter Kit mod, you’ll need to head to the Starter Kit on CurseForge and click on Files near the top. Find your desired game version for the mod, and then click download to the right-hand side. Save this file somewhere easy to get to, and then you’re going to do the exact same thing for the matching version of the Collective dependency mod. If you’re planning to use it on a single-player world, you’ll need to install it on the client side. In this case, you’ll want to make sure Forge is downloaded, and then head to the Minecraft launcher to install the mod. If you’re planning to use it on a server, make sure you have Forge or Fabric running on the server to match the version of the mod that you downloaded.
Setting Up the Starter Kit
After installing the mod, you’ll need to stop the server and then head towards an FTP file access in the top left. Log in, and then head to the mod directory and click upload in the top left corner. On this page, drag and drop the downloaded mod files here, and once they reach 100%, you can use your server name at the top of the page to return to the main panel and restart the server. Before you join the game, you’re going to want to either enable cheats or become a server operator to prepare the kit. A default set of items will appear otherwise, but you can change this by following the provided system.
Customizing the Starter Kit
Once you’ve obtained and organized your desired items, you can use the /starter kit set command in chat. This will instantly overwrite the default kit with your new setup, meaning new players will receive those materials instead of the ones before. If this is successful, you’ll receive a return message stating the configuration is updated with your new setup. Running this command can be done any number of times which will overwrite the kit beforehand. Now, any new players joining the server or the world will receive a custom starter kit, and depending on what you’ve used, advancements and recipes might be unlocked too.
Manual Editing and Common Issues
If you’re wanting to manually edit the starter kit or review previous versions, you can do this on the server panel. The system has a file editor for you to quickly make changes. If you’re wanting to make changes in Singleplayer, you’ll have to edit the files in your local game directory. If after joining the Minecraft server or single-player world, you don’t get the default starter kit, then make sure you install the Collective dependency mod. If you do have this installed and you realize players aren’t getting the kits, make sure they haven’t been on the server before. If they have, you’re going to have to reset their player stats to make sure they’re considered a new player.
This mod is the perfect starter mod for new players and it gives them something to work with instead of ending up completely empty-handed, and because you can pick exactly what to give your players, the options are endless.
