It’s time to talk about something that none of you ever know how to do and I don’t know why cuz it’s really it’s it’s it’s really not that difficult we’re talking about roofs so I want to talk about how to not make a roof how to make Different types of roofs and how to get different roof color coordination so let’s talk about Bare Basics right now you have three different kind of ideas with roofs you can either have the wall with the roof right along the roof flying right along it and that ends up Looking like this and I’m going to be honest it’s garbage you should never make a roof like this ever please don’t do it please don’t do this or you can have the wall be further out than the roof and the roof is kind of sunken in You know I don’t use this very much I’ve used it for like Factory builds and stuff before but usually you’ll want to go with this third option where the roof overhangs the walls you’re almost always going to use this this is this is kind Of the basis for how you want to set up your roofs you almost always want your roof overhanging your walls otherwise it ends up looking like that I also want to talk real quick about um roofs that are the same type of block as the design of your walls because this Frankly is terrible don’t do this never never make your roof the same as your walls you want distinction and it’s almost the same as never make your roof or your walls or your floor the same color the same block they can be similar they can be similar but they should not They should not be the same so if I was going to change this I would probably take that not infested you don’t want the infested cobblestone I probably make that the floor and make that the roof or you could even do a trim but we’ll talk about that later now We got to talk about different types of roofs cuz there are in my opinion five different basic types of roofs and then every other roof is just a combination or slight alteration of all of these roofs so we got the most basic roof the flat roof it’s basically just a wall That’s horizontal it’s it’s it’s really not that hard to understand usually you don’t want to use this for like a lot of different types of roofs uh you can use it for modern builds a lot of the time uh if you know what you’re doing with color Coordination um but if you do it right it it can be pulled off uh this is the most common form of roof in Minecraft this is just the traditional A-frame the reason it’s called an A-frame is because if you do this it looks like an a it’s it’s an a It’s it’s an a frame it’s the frame of an a this is really simple it’s basically just stair stare stare and at the top you do a uh either slab or if it’s two block Center which I don’t know why you do but if it was you just have Two stairs so slab stair stair stair and on the inside I like to do upside down stairs and then an upside down stair facing that way for the middle block usually looks something like that it’s not hard to build it’s a little more it’s more resource intensive than this But it looks nice um on almost anything you do and it it works pretty well with almost every type of build uh same with this one this is just a standard slant roof where you’re uh you’re basically switching between full deep slate blocks well they don’t have to be deep Slate but you’re switching pretty easily between full blocks and two half blocks full full block two half blocks full block two half blocks full block two half blocks and if you want a different angle you can do two full blocks two half blocks two full blocks two half Blocks Etc you can do different angles with this you can do half block half block full block half block half block full block half block half block full block you get the idea you can make tons of different angles with this and it would still be just a traditional it Would just still be a slant roof now you can also take two slant roofs and make a A-Frame stretched out horizontally and this is why I say you can usually just make whatever roof you want based on these five generic roof designs see that’s an A-frame but it’s Also two slant roofs just joined together at the center and you can see where I’m getting that but it’s it’s really a simple process um you just kind of got to mess around to see what might work this I like to call it just A-frame but stretched um I’m sure there’s an Natural name for it I just call it the stretch roof uh you find this a lot on Cottage core builds or medieval builds as well it’s basically it’s very similar to an A-frame where but it’s a little bit harder to understand so usually you want to start with a stair block then you Have a stair block but then then instead of just doing the regular A-frame route where you have just a 45° angle you vary it uh and it usually ends up doing something like that if you have one that’s a little bit bigger a lot of times you want to start with higher Block counts and then do a lower block count here it’ll end up being a bit of a different angle and so you can mess around with block counts and Heights and angles just like any other roof design here except for the flat one the flat one’s like the flat one’s really hard to Iterate on because it’s so basic it’s it’s really hard to mess around with too much but this is a a different it’s just another iteration of the A-frame all of these are just iterations of the A-frames um stretch them and Shrink them and compress them and cut them and slice Them up it’s all kind of some iteration with the A-frame a slime roof just like this one as well this one I think is called the gable roof uh you you might see this in like a traditional Farm build um like if you have like a barn it Might have like a bigger version of this um it’s almost like an upside down U uh and it’s very similar to this uh at first so you have the uh the very standard almost starts like an A-frame but then you have an extra block then it continues like an A-frame but then at Some point you just go to slabs and you can do this a little bit more than I’ve done here there you go now it’s just a wider Gable and you still got that more rounded shape because you’re switching from the stretch style where you have the extra blocks in between to a regular A-frame and then to the flatter slant so you got the higher angle and then you have the less high angle and then you’ve got almost flat up at the top here and then it goes back down so you get that U shape pretty simple roof shapes are kind of hard to easily Guide because it all depends on the build that you’re making whether something will fit or not and you really just have to take well what do I want to build and just experiment uh just take these five base designs and and try building from there uh and you’ll find something that works Eventually and we also need to talk about roof colors cuz there are some things that are awesome almost all the time and some things you never ever want to do this is the thing that you never ever want to do very rarely very very rarely sometimes you do it most times you don’t You almost never want your roof color to be lighter than your wall color it almost never makes even even in vanilla Minecraft no shaders you can see it’s just it’s just weird it the colors don’t make sense because I’ll tell you what if you have a color that’s Distinct enough from the wall color your eyes get drawn up to it like this it’s like eh you’re like it’s not far enough apart to make any distinction so it’s just like a random color slapped on this you’ve got such a different color that your eyes are drawn up to it and You almost always want your eyes drawn up to the roof because the roof is almost always the interesting part of the build if you build it correctly right so you want your eyes drawn up to the roof so here you’ve got the dark oak on top of the spruce and since it’s a Darker color that’s distinct enough from the spruce you’re eyes are properly drawn up to it that does not happen with the Oak and you just need to kind of do what I’ve done here and take oh what wall color am I doing so if I just do give piz buff I’m just going To hit a random letter on my keyboard Sandstone so Sandstone is my wall type that’s the type of wall I’m going for so I want something that’s distinct enough from sandstone that it looks interesting um I’d probably probably go with a slant roof like that and obviously the actual Building would be wider than that but you get the idea there you go that’s an immediate representation of what I would just do right before even starting to build I would just do this to see what color palettes might work with this jungle would work too if I want to go With a wood type and if you’re having trouble thinking of colors thinking of combinations just type in slab or stare into this because you’re almost always going to want to make a roof out of a block that has stair and slab varieties so if it doesn’t have a stair and slab variety It’s a lot harder to work with now this is not always the case you can make roof rims and then have non uh slab and stair varieties inside or add detail or whatever um but usually you want to start the slab and ster varieties but Let’s talk about this as well so this is working with different Stone types so we’ve got Spruce and Cobblestone it works but the Cobblestone is still a bit light compared to the spruce even though it is on the monochromatic scale so maybe we want to go with deep slate this Is my personal combination that I would usually go with over Cobblestone and it’s a little dark so it draws your eyes a little bit better but not to say that Cobblestone Cobblestone can’t work with anything I think Cobblestone goes rather well with Birch and in my opinion deep Slate while it does work with Birch it’s a little a little too dark for Birch in my opinion um I’ve I have used it with Birch before but you want to have some contrast but not too much contrast so you want to work with stuff especially if you’re going with stuff on the Monochromatic scale from white gray to Black um you want to just Tinker around with what blocks you have to see what might fit the best but with colors stuff that’s not monochromatic or just variations of brown um it’s a lot more flexible so I have cherry and Crimson Here and I still used Crimson as the roof and Cherry as the base now if I wanted to I could try and this will actually be a very good example because it can really show you the difference between flipping the colors so you can see it’s definitely a completely Different kind of look but depending on the build you’re doing when you’re working with colors like this it can work it can work like here I have red bricks which are obviously darker than quartz and quartz is is a very is one of the brightest uh blocks in the game even In vanilla Minecraft it’s so bright um so you can see it here even though this is darker than this it still kind of works it’s still is a valid option and also if you’re mixing color what is there a bat in here there’s multiple bats in here okay get out I haven’t seen Minecraft bats in ages uh so if you’re working with colors mixed with monochromatic scale it’s almost impossible to mess it up because you can mix colors in the monochromatic scale kind of however you want you can go white to color dark to color and if I Take the copper now this all depends on what kind of build you’re going for usually I would prefer to have the monochromatic walls in the colored roof because again the color is where your eyes are drawn to the lighter colors and the the um the lighter scaled uh blocks On the monochromatic and the blocks that have color are where your eyes are drawn to and again you want your eyes to be drawn to the roof because the roof I’m going to keep saying this is where the interesting shapes happen it’s where all of the interest is your walls 90% of the Time unless you’re messing with diagonals or um really interesting combinations of shapes or trying to recreate round um rounded structures usually your walls are literally just the’re they’re just rectangles so rectangles with stuff on them you’ve got windows in them you’ve got planter boxes or whatever but they’re just rectangles they’re not the Most interesting part they’re really important but they’re not the most interesting so whenever you’re working with a colored wall maybe it’s a good idea to choose something that really contrasts instead of something that’s a little bit weirder so with a super bright white or just super dark Grays And blacks it’s still okay cuz your eyes still get drawn to it but if I switch this out for Cobblestone this is just Cobblestone my eyes aren’t drawn to the Cobblestone it’s just a regular gray so my eyes are drawn back down to the walls and as we know the walls are less Interesting the walls are less interesting you want your eyes to be drawn to the roof so we’ve talked about different types of roofs we’ve talked about different colors of roofs I want to talk real quick about combining roofs because this is something you can do really easily because if you choose one Type of roof you don’t have to stick with that roof type for the entire build now you can very easily but you don’t have to there you go it’s kind of hard to see because this thing’s in a way but that doesn’t not work it works really Well it still makes sense you have the stretch roof that’s being integrated with the regular A-frame and it works and I could do the same thing with a slant roof I could put a little extra extension on this side and give it a slanted roof and just have it do a Little slant and then it goes all the way back and hits the back of this wall and it would make sense now regular flat roof with a stretch roof maybe wouldn’t make sense but a slant roof with a gable roof would work a slant roof with an A-frame would Work an A-frame with a slant roof would work uh a flat roof with an a flame would work a flat roof with a with a uh with a slant would work all depending on what build you’re doing three basic tenants don’t make your roof like look like this have some depth tenant two Choose what style of roof you need for the build that you’re making maybe if you’re going medieval card score can can consider a stretch roof uh if you’re doing something uh regular like a little just a little cabin like that or something a little more like Suburban or Modern consider a slant roof or an A-frame roof or if you’re going with a factory design if you go for a slant roof or a collection of slant roofs uh if you’re going with like a farm or a barn consider the uh the gable roof you’re going with something hyper modern Consider the flat roof or or the stretch roof not the stretch roof the SL roof it all you have to choose what type you’re using based on what kind of build you’re making and you can combine types too this makes sense this plus a flat roof might not Make sense who knows maybe it will depending on what you’re building and you have to keep in mind that whatever block pallet you choose you want your eyes to be drawn to the roof you want to look at the build from far away and look at the roof first you Want your eyes to flip towards the roof so if you have something like this or this it might not work just do a little just do a little a little 3×3 with your wall type grab whatever wood type you want and make a simple little A-frame maybe not as terribly and Slowly as I’m doing it right now just make a little test A-frame creative world or something does that color power work yes it does great then use it colors work too colors alongside monochromatic work too monochromatic alongside colors work too unless you do something like this Where again your eyes are drawn to the walls instead of the ceiling and that’s why over here with this little cabin build I put color on the top of my roof I took the regular brown I had a dark contrasting rim for the roof and then I had a colorful interior of the Roof it works it draws your eye straight up towards the green of the roof just do a lot of testing again that’s kind of what building is it’s just messing around it’s just like this world is nothing compared to my real testing worlds that that’s pretty much all I Need to say I mean you always just watch the roof to be in interesting shape because everything else everything below it is just rectangles that’s all it is rectangles and if you can make anything look slightly more interesting than a rectangle and properly draw my eye towards It that’s a roof and that’s a success thank you so much for watching subscribe if you enjoyed there will be more of this kind of stuff coming later and I’ll see you in the next one bye-bye Video
