Hello everyone my name is pics Horace and welcome back to the Minecraft Survival Guide I hope you guys are having a good day I’m having a great one because as you can see out of the window here the mountains for the ski resort are complete or at least they are Structurally complete I have a lot more work that I would still like to do on these but looking at them right now they are fully enclosed there are a couple of caves that still give me access to the interior and I’ll be working on one or Two of those to get me slightly closer in at ground level but if we go up into the air right now you’ll be able to see this mountain range in all its glory and I’ve been putting a lot of work into this behind the scenes on switch streams And alike just to get everything functionally right and looking great and up here at the top is where the ski route starts I can give you a little bit of a tour obviously right now it’s not looking all that great because we just have the bare minimum snow layers that Have fallen during the nights when I haven’t been able to sleep here in this world and there is only really that mountain over there that is currently decorated what I plan on doing today and probably over the next few twitch streams as well is to decorate these mountains to the standard of that Mountain over there I’m planning on putting in lots of snow blocks and trees and stuff on the lower slopes and making this whole thing look a little bit more natural but starting at the top of the ski route here you come down this first slope and this gives you a couple of Options because once you get down to this area you’ll be able to enter a cave which actually takes you down through a curving route which I haven’t planned yet but it will end up basically putting you out at the bottom down there and then you can continue a slope down the Mountain that kind of winds around and ends up sloping off towards down there probably not out putting you in that lava lake but I don’t know exactly how it’s going to be planned out yet then instead of going into the cave from here you could also go down this way and this Is a route I can actually fly down to give you a quick example of the curvature of this route it’s nice and wide narrows up in some places there are a couple of alternate routes you can take down the mountain passing over the better that I’ve been sleeping in there And at this point you can choose to go through this little archway here come down the rest of the mountain and then you end up back at the foot of the slope here where you could return to the ski village or maybe board another ski lift That will take you back up the mountain lots of work left to do but I’m very very happy with how all of this has come together and in today’s episode I want to start making these mountains look like you can ski down them I want to Look pretty I want them to look a lot more snowy and I want to add in a few blocks that are going to provide a bit of geology to the mountains I’ve done stuff like this in the past with adding veins of material into cliff sides and Stuff like that if you want to look at for example the episode in which I decorated the mine near my farmland near my starter base I feel like that was a good start in terms of terraforming things to look a little bit more natural or at least as close to Natural as you want to get in the fantasy world that minecraft provides for us but today we’re going to take that to the next level we’re not necessarily striving for realism but we’re striving for a version of realism within minecraft itself and I am going To be taking a lot of cues from the work I’ve already done on this mountain over here which we decorated so we could get a junior ski slope set up we’ve got blue ice coming down the mountainside that boats could travel down and that would Not melt if I ended up lighting up this area we’ve got trees that we’ve got a snow cap on the mountain and then we can add in a few bits and pieces of material here and there we’ll also be adding in snow layers much later but the main Thing right now the main obstacle standing in the way of doing this treatment to the rest of the mountains is the sheer amount of snow blocks required these mountains currently have about 200,000 stone in them and that was a lot of stone to be placing over a Two-month period but we got it done and while I’m really happy with the shape of them of course we need to cover most of the tops there with snow meaning that I will need to get a mammoth amount of snow blocks we’re talking like a full double chests of shulker boxes of snow Blocks probably and that is going to be a very difficult thing for a number of reasons the first reason being that snow is actually kind of difficult to get in large quantities and I’ve been farming snow from this snow golem so that we can do little projects like This where snow layers are required just to fill in a few of these gaps occasionally we build up a snow block here and there and we can mix in some dye right to provide some of that a roadside slush but the top of the mountain is going to be pure untouched Snow especially in those areas where skiers cannot reach it is just going to be snow as it falls from the sky and snow blocks are really required to give that full look to the top of things as you can see from here areas that just have snow layers on top of them don’t Look nearly as good as the snow on top of that distant mountain peak does and so I really want to be getting a lot of snow blocks now I have two silk touch shovels on me right now and the problem with silk touch is it gives you snow Layers when you farm it from an imprisoned snow golem like this it gives you a lot of snow layers but it only gives them to you one at a time and you need eight snow layers in order to build up something to the size of a full block Which you can then silt touch in order to get a full block that is not an efficient way of creating snow and snow layers right now cannot be crafted into a snow block there is no crafting recipe that allows you to do that not a 2×2 not A 3×3 you have to build them up and then break them so that is definitely not an option the other option we could take and it will require me to quickly find myself a decent non silk touch shovel so let me go and grab those from a shoka Box I prepared earlier so right here I have a shelter box full of a non silk touch shovels including this one that has curse of vanishing which I guess I will use for now while I’m not currently in danger of being killed by anything and losing that shovel this is how you Get snowballs by attacking at the snow layer underneath this golem which constantly regenerates thanks to the golem being held in one place and that will end up filling up your inventory with stacks of 16 snowballs at a time because snowballs because they were at one point something that you could throw And deal a small amount of damage to players or entities that they don’t deal damage anymore but they do still do knock back for balance purposes they were limited to a stack size of only 16 also because other items that are round in Minecraft like eggs and so forth also Stack to 16 the problem now is that we can only craft 16 snow blocks at a time and that the output from a snow farm like this is gonna take up a lot of inventory space meaning that while we can generate a lot of snow for crafting snow blocks it’s Really only going to produce a small amount of snow blocks each time we do that so we’re gonna have to set up an industrial sized snow farm that’s going to have a lot of storage for snowballs and still allow the player to craft them with a reasonable speed and I’ve looked Into this I’ve asked around for data pack makers on Twitter to have some input into this and apparently it is not possible to use a data pack to update the stack size of snowballs to 64 which is apparently something Mojang plans to do in a future snapshot which is going To rebalance combat in the game but it’s not something that’s available in the game right now and while there are mods that make it possible to alter stack sizes I really don’t feel like stepping into mods in this series aside from Optifine that’s really kind of outside Of what I think of as the survival guides main area so I kind of think we should just stick with the snack size of 16 while we can and craft up a lot of snow blocks that way it’s also worth noting that there aren’t really any more viable ways of producing snowballs Except for maybe TNT but that kind of creates other problems in itself but if you break a block underneath a snow layer you do not get snowballs so that the snow layer has to be broken by at the players shovel in order to generate snowballs and the only other way of Getting snowballs is by killing a snow golem which require two blocks of snow to make anyway so you don’t get any kind of return on your investment from that so instead we are gonna have to set up a snow farm just by shoveling snow balls And that made me wonder can I make a snow farm like this any more efficient and I figure what we can do is set up a snow farm with two layers of snow that I should be able to break simultaneously because as you can see when I break this Snow layer I’m temporarily looking at that block next to it if that was a snow layer as well we could potentially be doubling our snowball output and add some hoppers some hopper minecarts and stuff underneath this and we have ourselves a pretty sizable snow farm I don’t think we could increase the output To any more than that but I think it is worth giving a try hey folks welcome back so we are gonna set up a snow farm in this building which is basically opposite the Fox powered a chicken farmer here in the village maybe we can make this a snow Cone shop or something like that because this thing is going to be producing a heck of a lot of snowballs the idea I think there’s gonna be to set up a collection area here in the floor kind of opposite the doorway and this is gonna be an even-numbered build so it’s Gonna be way off so I might as well just tuck it in a corner over here actually thinking about it so what we’re gonna do is have a couple of rows of chests in here like so basically to maximize the amount of storage we can have it could Be one double chest at the bottom here but I think we’re going to need two and you know what it’s gonna have to come out from the wall a little bit as well so let’s move those slightly forward just thinking about the positioning of these things let’s put it here so we’re Gonna take advantage of a hopper mechanic that Doc Emma actually pointed out towards the end of hermitcraft season six when he was designing a super fast storage system for a raid farm and that is that hoppers are able to push items out of them and have items pulled Out of them at basically the same time so we can actually maximize the amount of items that get transferred into a chest at once using hoppers by placing two hoppers facing into the chests like so two hoppers facing down on top of them like that and then two other hoppers facing into Those hoppers basically if two items end up in this hopper they’re going to get split very fast between that hopper there and that hopper there allowing them to be collected faster than usual and we’re going to use this in multiple stacks basically to make sure we have a Few different layers of storage going on here we can also have the front hoppers collect items faster simply by putting the two chests over the top of it and they’re not gonna push the items out any faster but it’s gonna mean more items drain out of these chests quicker which Is going to provide a little bit more space for snowballs at the top basically the whole idea of this is that we don’t end up with a ton of snowballs just sitting around taking up entity space and causing the world to lag out a little bit because we’re gonna need to Farm a lot of snowballs for this so we’re gonna stack this up one more time and then hopefully we should have enough storage that we can build the snow golem section up here and in the end I actually pulled it forward a couple of blocks because there just wasn’t enough Room going a little bit further back here for our snow golems to sit up there but are gonna sit up here he can hop up the edge of the hoppers and up here we’re going to have a couple of hopper minecarts collecting the snowballs and We need to place these in a kind of specific way because otherwise they won’t end up collecting the snowballs into both of these hoppers and this hopper here simply won’t pull items out of it fast enough to transfer them down into the chest and further down here so Instead what we’re gonna do is go and grab some wood for trapdoors because I don’t have enough wood on me right now there we go two trapdoors and I’m also gonna bring some glass just so we can see the snow golems inside of this thing at once we eventually get it working now Let’s pop around here let’s create a kind of glass boundary around the outside where the snow golems are gonna be standing which is going to be up here basically and that we need to put some trapdoors at the back of these two hoppers flip them up like that so that They’re just covering the last couple of pixels of the hopper now let’s hop down here and get some rails out of the redstone box we just need a couple of rails for this will pop one there and luckily that’s facing the right direction already so we don’t need to Correct that we just need to slide that forward so it’s in the same space as the trapdoor there basically so it’s resting right against the edge of the trapdoor we can break that rail that’ll probably get collected up by the hoppers and we’ll do the same thing over here with The hopper minecart just pushing that into place so they both come to rest against the back of the trapdoor like so remove that rail as well now we’re going to remove at these two trapdoors though should end up in the system as well he’ll just collect it instantly by the Hopper mine cuts and we’re going to place some blocks around the back here and then we’re going to push two stone blocks down on top of these two hopper mine carts and those blocks are what the snow golems are going to be standing in just so the hopper mind cuts don’t poke Out the front I’m actually going to put two stone blocks over the top of there as well and let’s grab some sticky pistons and I guess we’ll need a lever for this as well if we’re using the sticky kind okay let’s hop up here and let’s place all four of these Pistons facing Downwards into the stone blocks here and then let’s use this lever to activate them all at once like so yep that’s perfect they’ve been pushed down over the top of the hopper minecarts now we need to break each of the pistons in turn so they don’t retract those stone Blocks could Xero take them of course as well to disconnect them but look as you can see the pistons have already made their way into the storage system sucked up by those hopper minecart we can replace the glass that I broken to get them in there up here is where We’re going to have the snow golems stand on two blocks here so we want to make sure they can’t get out of this area so we’ll build up around the outside here we’ll leave a little bit of a gap on the corners just in case we need to collect any stray snowballs After this but we’re going to make sure that this area is closed off and to make sure the snow balls don’t end up floating out the side we’re gonna put a solid block there and a slab there so snowball entities will probably just get caught up against these blocks and fall Down into the area where the hopper minecarts are going to collect them with a little bit of overlap here as well the reason we pushed the hopper minecart up against those trapdoors is to make sure they overlap the area of both of these hoppers meaning that both hoppers will Start to pull items down through the hopper minecarts and we won’t need to worry too much about stuff only getting collected by one hopper now the only thing we need to do is set up two snow golems inside of here and then we’re going to push some blocks down on top of Their heads as well to make sure they don’t collide with each other too much and then colliding with them is not too much for a problem we don’t need to worry too much about them hitting each other as you can see where they’re running into each other like that then They are still producing snow layers on both of those blocks the only problem is sometimes the hitbox of one of the snow golems gets in the way of the shovel and you can only farm one snow layer at a time so what I’m gonna do is just push two glass blocks down on Top of their heads like this and that’s gonna make it so they cannot get out of the block there standing in so just like before we’re gonna use a lever to push both of those down and remove the pistons while they’re still extended and take out any extra blocks surrounding Here and now the snow golems should not really be able to move out of their current block space meaning that we’ll end up with both of them stuck in one position and we should be able to farm as many layers as we need to there we go Yes that seems to be working fine and hopefully all of the drops should be any end up going through both of the sets of hoppers here and they’re actually moving fast enough that I don’t need to even check that I think those are all working pretty well remember that the snow Layers will also melt if the light level is high enough it doesn’t matter about skylights but block lights will melt snow layers so even though I want to make sure this platform here is relatively more proof we do need to make sure that the light stays far enough Away that it’s not going to melt the snow layers and just cause to be hitting a block for no reason and then the next step of course is to have all of our shovels left around here so that we can have easy access to those And I think with all of the shovels I’ve got in here we should be able to farm quite a lot of snow layers in my testing I’ve actually tested this a little bit and timed it in a creative test world and with an efficiency for unbreaking three shovel it lasts about five minutes And there’s no real way of automating switching to the next shovel unless I ended up having a bunch of the shovels in my hotbar and I was just pressing the number keys it’s not exactly automation but it’s probably a faster way to do it however I think one shovels worth of Snow will actually probably fill up most of the system here I’m going to empty this entire thing out and give it a quick test once we’ve been able to go to sleep we’ll see how many snow blocks we can farm out of this thing okay I’m gonna use this shovel since the Durability is almost full and I’m gonna just run it down until it is within an inch of its life I’m gonna make sure that I don’t break it it’s got a cursive vanishing anyway so not the biggest deal if it breaks but I guess we’re just gonna start farming and this shovel is Just about to wear down I’m gonna stop as that last little red pixel of the durability bar disappears which should mean it has about 50 durability left but we have a lot of snowballs just hanging out here at the snow golems feet eventually those should end up disappearing into the hopper minecarts And oh boy we will have a lot of snowballs waiting for us in the system there we go we’ve got 56 durability left which means we can stuff this one into the shelcha box we can go ahead and amend that later and I could just swap out for another shovel and continue Shoveling but it looks like we have a haggle over the snow balls backed up in the system those are all moving through pretty fast though as you can see that’s moving through a lot faster than the average single hopper set upward and yeah they are just blinking their way Through those chests so hopefully we should find that the majority of them end up in the lower chests and this whole mess up here can clear up I picked up a few stacks just by the fact that the item entities kind of popped out through the corner here but I think we Should be ok with that I’ll stuff these into the chest as well nose will start to filter through anyway maybe I’ll put half in the other chest just for the sake of balance and for whatever reason this side has drained completely but I think maybe because the snow golem is Pushed over to this side a little bit all the item entities have been popping out over here and so this side has a lot more snowballs to drain away but it’s still happening you can see them all ending up in this chest here and the first two rows of chests on this side Are also filled up that one is currently empty but the hoppers have got a few items in as well so I figured the best way to mass craft these is going to be to pop down here and just break these four chests at the bottom here obviously my inventory is immediately going to Fill up with snowballs but the idea now is that we’re going to craft a few snow blocks we’re gonna place them in strategic spots of my inventory so that I have let’s say four of those so we can make four stacks of snowballs and then using these shift-clicking ability I’ll Just be able to craft a whole bunch of those at a time and they’ll go into stacks in my inventory then I’ll automatically cups Nobles from the ground to replace the ones that I’m using in my inventory and a sooner or later we should make our way through all of the supplies of Snowballs that are on the ground and we’ll be able to replace the chests and get back to farming snow so there we go two double chests of snow gave us six stacks and forty-eight snow blocks which is not too bad and remember we have two more double chests waiting for us up Here we just need to replace those chests and watch the items filter back in and we can do that a couple of times while I sleep and then we should be able to make ourselves a decent amount of snow blocks and start terraforming the tops and sides of the mountains up here So the shovel situation seems pretty good if we can get this amount of snow blocks probably a seven stacks of snow blocks per shovel roughly speaking but I want to pause before I end up breaking the shovel entirely and I think that’ll be good for a start I don’t think There’s really a faster way to farm snow balls than this and I don’t think there’s really any other way of getting snow blocks aside from maybe breaking down these village houses or getting from icebergs which is really not a sustainable way to do this so I guess I’ve got a lot of snow farming in my future but at least I can now get started terraforming the tops of these mountains with snow and I think we’re gonna start doing that in the form of a time-lapse [Applause] Hey folks welcome back I hope you enjoyed the time-lapse and this has actually progressed a little bit further since even the end of that time lapse because I managed to get in a twitch stream where I was farming a little bit more snow and placing a little bit more Of it up here on the mountain and this is only phase one of the snow of course because we have the option to add snow layers here and there which I would like to do just to round out some of the more blocky looking areas and of course make This whole area here look a little bit more natural that’s kind of why we built these plateaus in here in the first place is to add a little bit more natural curve and a little bit more detail not to mention the fact that we are going to be trying to improve the Geology of this area with a couple more sets of materials that I already have stashed away down here in the chest down here on this single chest we have a bunch more shelcha boxes with cyan terracotta and gray concrete powder in large enough quantities that whatever material is left exposed after we have Put down a bunch of snow we should be able to mix in a few of those materials just to give it a little bit more detail and a little bit more life not to mention the fact that I want to add some more trees and maybe a few smaller Shrubs and bushes that are still clinging to life on the edges of this mountain but all in all I think this is a vast improvement and is really making this feel like the mountain I want it to feel like I’m trying to leave some exposed areas of stone here and there as I go but I think it’s really going to look great once we have the majority of it covered in snow it certainly feels a lot more like the type of mountain that you would want to come and ski down as part of a visit to this ski resort I am Still a little bit unsure about whether or not I want to cover the rest of the actual ski run which is kind of down the side of the mountain here in blue ice the same way that we did with the junior slope over here so that you can sled Down it using boats and this is kind of partly covered with snow layers here and there thanks to the fact that it’s been snowing occasionally when I haven’t been able to sleep through the night but I am kind of not sure if I want to do that partly because of the amount of Blue ice we will need it’s really quite a large commitment we could use some packed ice here and there but wanted to be able to have the option of covering it entirely with snow layers and just leaving the function of the blue-ice slope in there to be traveling Around on boats so let me know in the comments what you think should we turn the ski slope itself into an ice road so that we can poke down it and sled down it in the boats or should we just leave it as snow and make the whole thing look Kind of aesthetic in that way let me know but for now that’s gonna be it for this episode of the
