Hello everyone my name is pixel riffs and welcome back to the Minecraft Survival Guide I hope you’re all having a good day in today’s episode we’re going to continue looking at scary stuff in the game and I was thinking about this the other day because honestly the Only other really scary thing I need to do in the next little while is go to the ancient city that’s underneath this mountain but I figured we were probably going to save that for closer to the date of Halloween so I was thinking what else are Minecraft players scared of and The first answer that jumped out at me was digging straight down this is a common rule of Minecraft The Golden Rule of Minecraft is that you should never dig straight down because of course there could be stuff under there that you don’t know about you could end up Digging directly into a lava lake without any fire resistance potions and no way to escape falling into a lava lake losing all your stuff it’s kind of a nightmare scenario you could also at this point drop into large Caverns underneath the area you’re digging down to or dripstone caves or God forbid an Actual ancient city so I think we’re going to take a look at a couple of safer ways of digging down which are also going to feed into some other stuff I want to take a look at in this series first of all the main advice I will give For you if you have to dig straight down in a straight line if you have to dig down from the surface then stand on the join between two blocks like this clearly I’ve dug out the block directly to my right but I’m still standing on The Block directly to my left and one of the ways that you can dig down like this is to stand on the dividing line between two blocks and dig them out to the left and the right of you that way this hole here is always going to be three blocks Below where you’re standing it can even be four blocks below if you are crouching like that and you can end up seeing what potential hazards you might fall into before you end up hitting them but the other way I’m going to show you of digging straight down it’s actually More of a mining method than it is a hazard we’re going to grab some bone blocks out of here and I’m going to grab some bone blocks from my skeleton spawner as well because we will need a lot of bone meal for this we are going to Embark upon a moss mining excavation We’re going to go out to a mountain biome probably the largest mountain biome I have found in this world so far and we are going to dig down from the surface to the bottom of the world in a chunk in a 16x 16 area as denoted by These chunk borders that we can enable in Java Edition and we are going to use that opportunity to take a look at the Topography of the world all of the ores that generate from the top of the world to the bottom and see how or distribution works out in a world we’re Also going to get a lot of moss from this because I’m actually running kind of low on Moss but after a while we’ll get enough Moss that I can probably set up a composter like an automatic composter like the one we have over here and that will allow us to recoup some of The bone meal that we’re spending on this project to the point where we might even break even but I’m going to bring back a bunch of shelter boxes of moss that we can use for building and terraforming and all kinds of other stuff and I honestly think it might be a Good idea to bring the laay note block composting setup with us bring a couple of alls and have them compost all of the leftover stuff that we’re going to be getting from this Moss mining Adventure over here at the skeleton Farm we have a bunch more bones that we can turn into Another stack of bone blocks and I believe in the chest behind me over here I even have a bunch more yes there we go we’ve got like nine stacks of bone blocks at this point we can throw all of that into the shulker box which will Keep in the ender chest and we can just grab bone meal whenever we need it the other thing you will need of course if you want to follow along with this is a powerful hoe because we need to dig out this area of moss and the hoe is the Most effective tool for mining Moss out so got two here one that’s netherite so a little bit more durability and the efficiency rating shouldn’t matter since I think we can instam mine Moss even without enchantments mostly what we need is Unbreaking and mending considering That we are going to be mining out a lot of blocks so let’s break two boats here out the laaz river we’ll bring these two LA with us the rest of the LA should drop on down like so and we can take out another two as well there we go and with This cute bunch of balloons in tow I’m going to head north to the Savannah Biome that we discovered our Pillager Outpost at the first time because that contains one of the tallest mountains I’ve seen in this world and I think that’ll be a perfect place to Start so if you think back to the episode where we found the Pillager Outpost you might remember this mountain the one I said looks like an alien of some kind and I thought that this was going to be the tallest mountain that we had found but there is even one taller Over here and by the way if you’re at all concerned about bringing a large number of alls with you they are surprisingly good at staying on the leads if you don’t take off from a firework start stand on something tall like a tree take off from leaping off of Something and then use your fireworks the LA’s are incredibly good at staying attached to the leads they’ll fly around pretty easily at that point and I’ve managed to bring all four of them with me that way but anyway here we are this I believe is the tallest peak I have Found in my world right up here if we stand on top of this we are standing at something like 238 in the y axis 224 okay so that’s still pretty darn tall the highest Am Mountain can possibly get in a world is about y 256 and I’ve not found any Terrain like that in my world so I think right now we are standing at the tallest point we are likely to find without doing a lot more exploration but unfortunately for this mountain this is not going to be the tallest peak for very long because I’m actually going to Excavate this entire thing using moss we’re going to start by replacing the tallest block here with a moss block we’re going to bone meal the Moss and it will spread to some of the other blocks around around us and from there we can remove all of these blocks with a hoe so We don’t even need to use a pickaxe to remove the layers of stone I should also check that this mountain peak actually falls within the center of a chunk which as luck would have it it does so we’re going to be mining out with moss up to The very edges of this Square here and then we’re going to be leaving all of the terrain around this untouched so that we can take a look at the ores that generate in the walls because as we know from our various mining Expeditions different heights of the world have the Capacity to generate different ores in addition to that these Mountain biomes will have the possibility of generating emeralds so that means we might get a few emerald ores out of this as well but for now I’m going to pop down a couple of boats for our L friends to get into Hopefully we can coax a couple of them in there and there we go that should keep them safe until we need to use them now let’s start taking down this mountain peak up at the top here we’re going to start removing this top layer of moss blocks but we’re not going to Take out too many of those because we will need to spread it from another Moss block and the way Moss works is that it only takes out the top layer of a block converting it into Moss anything below that is going to remain Stony so we’re Going to have to start by whittling down the top of this mountain so that it flattens out a little bit and as we go bone mealing one of these blocks is going to cover a larger area of stone until we reach the limit that Moss can Convert and then we’re going to have to use multiple pieces of bone meal to convert all of the blocks in the surrounding chunk once we reach all blocks like this you’ll notice that Moss conveniently does not convert any of the precious materials into Moss it will Keep all of the ores there and we’re actually going to leave all of the ores without mining them for now so we can get a visual representation of how much ore is in this single vertical chunk what that means for our excavation here though is that we’re going to have to Dig out the blocks underneath some of these in order for the Moss to continue spreading because the Moss won’t spread to blocks below this chunk of ore unless there is an air gap between them so right here for example we won’t be able to convert this piece of stone into Moss So we’re just going to dig that out I’m going to replace the ores that I’ve broken cuz I want a good representation of where those are and now that we’ve dug out those blocks we should be able to continue converting everything around here into moss and just like that we Continue on down we have hit our first emerald ore which I’m very excited for I kind of want to mine that already because I like to silk touch any blocks of emerald ore that I find but I’m not going to worry about that quite yet we Need a few more bone blocks so I’m going to grab everything from here and of course a clear inventory is going to make make sure that we can grab as many of these blocks as are lying on the ground we’ll stuff those into some shulker boxes and until we get the all To start helping us compost the Moss carpet wheat seeds and the two types of aelia we’re going to store those in a separate shulker box which we can just load onto the top of a hopper that will feed into the composter later but it’s not really going to make sense to set up The automatic composter until we’re digging out the area of an entire chunk so we’re not going to bring the Lays into action until we’re digging out this full 16×16 area and we end up descending into the general height of these mountain peaks Moss also will not convert gravel so we probably want to Dig out some of the gravel manually as we go and if you brought a shovel with silk touch you’ll probably want that so you don’t end up with a ton of Flint okay it’s about 45 minutes later we are now down at y 185 so we’ve actually gone through a Bunch of layers obviously some of those a little bit thinner than where we’re at now because we are now at the point where I’m covering almost the entire Chunk in Moss and as you can see I’ve left all of the walls outside of the chunk to to the best of my ability kind Of absent-mindedly scraped through a couple of layers earlier on but I think so far we’re getting a pretty decent look at the way coal and iron generate along with these occasional pockets of single blocks of emerald ore at this point I’m considering bringing in the LA or at least getting some composting Going because I have now filled a shulker box with the miscellaneous odds and ends that we get from getting one of these chunks dug out just by clearing all of the surface stuff that generates on top of the Moss as we grow it I’ve already gone through two full shulker Boxes of moss blocks we are currently working on our third and at this point at least setting up a temporary Auto composter is going to make a bit of sense so that we can clear some of the stuff out of the shelter boxes that we Know we are not going to use but before I do any of that I’m actually going to fly home for one thing in particular because if it ends up raining at any point since we’re in such a high elevation biome even though we are surrounded by the warm biomes of the Savannah it will start snowing and snow layers settling on the terrain around here is going to to make it more difficult for us to continue spreading the Moss since it will cover over some of the stone blocks we’ll end up missing some there will be gaps and we’ll end up With snow on top of all of the or blocks that we actually want to be able to observe from the air so in order to block the snow from settling on these blocks I’m going to go home and get a layer of glass blocks that I can put in The 16×16 area above this chunk that we’re currently digging out and that’s going to prevent snow from settling there whilst also not blocking any light from above so we don’t have to worry about stuff spawning underne Neath it so back at our chunk here I’ve now Set up our grid of glass up there in the sky and that should prevent any snow layers from settling on the blocks below the snow will settle on top of the glass but we can just leave some light sources like torches up there if we need to get Rid of the snow layers and in the meantime it’s time to set up our laay composter setup so what we’re going to do is make sure that we are outside of the area in which we want to dig because the last thing we want is to dig through Where our composter is set up and of course we want to make sure that is set up somewhere kind of accessible so that the LA can get to the note block nice and easily so I’m probably going to put it right here and if we need to take Down this wall of the chunk a little bit more so that we have easy access for the LA to fly in and out then that’s probably something we’ll have to do having access to this bone meal is obviously not the priority for us right now unless we start running out of bone Blocks so it should be simple enough to set everything up over here so with the rail on there we can add the mine cart on the top break the rail and use some sort of of stone button let’s say to push the Piston allowing the note block to have a Hopper mine cart embedded in it and I found recently that having the hopper mine cart embedded in the note block on the surface like this is actually slightly better for the LA to throw it since they can throw it on the top or at the sides of the block and all of the Items will still make it into the hopper and just a redstone torch here should get that going there we go that note block is producing sounds which should allow our laas to pair with that note block and deliver any of the leftover Moss bits and P pieces to the composter System I’ll quickly test if I can throw stuff at the edge of this there we go yep that’s all been composted the Moss carpet can go in there as well perfect that should work out fine now all I need is one of each type of moss byproduct to Give to the LA and I probably need to turn down my Note Block sounds before that gets too irritating so by shift right clicking on the LA we can actually take the items that they had whilst they were sat here in the boat and give the LA one of each of the Moss mining byproducts so these two can have the aelas the other two will have the moss and the seeds we’ll break them out of the boats nice and quickly and we’ll get them up here on the mountain where we can start mining out the Moss again I Put some bone meal in my off hand I put the hoe in my main hand and we can simply go around breaking all of these blocks and spreading the Moss and the Els should come through and pick up all of the leftovers and since we built this Redstone clock a little bit lower down than where we’re currently working we shouldn’t need to reposition that for a while but obviously as we continue down into the depths of the Earth with this chunk it’s going to mean positioning that Redstone clock a couple of times Just so the LA can continue to work with us in the meantime though I can just leave all of this stuff lying on the ground and each of the LA is going to come around pick up all of the aelia saplings and stuff in this case and Return them to that note block for composting look at them go little La Workforce perfect they’re doing so well at that and once I’m satisfied I’ve collected enough Moss blocks and I don’t need any more for the time being we can always just switch a couple of the LA to Gathering Moss blocks instead of say wheat seeds and then we should be able to take home a bunch of bone meal that will be useful for other projects instead of a bunch of moss that we don’t really need all right I’ve been doing this for a couple of minutes now and We’ve had no hiccups with the ls they seem to have got the hang of it they remember to take the stuff to the note block and all of that is getting composted in the background while I collect all the Moss blocks in my inventory so the only thing remaining to Be concerned about is the durability of my tools and so once this is worn down to basically a stub I’m going to head over to my XP farm to quickly repair it and then we just have to keep digging on down until we reach some of the more Interesting parts of the terrain so I’m going to keep doing that and myself and the LA Workforce will see you on the other side hey folks welcome back so it has been about four or 5 hours since we last checked in on this project at least four Or 5 hours worth of working time and as you can see we have a very full chunk of ores right here but a chunk devoid of any other blocks which is a very good thing it’s a lot less full than it was if but we have just encountered a bit of A roadblock and I’m very no I’m so worried about the LA’s going in there thankfully the note block is calling them back to this sort of general area where they are Milling around because I dug down to here and I started to hit a bit of a cave and I thought okay we’ve Hit a bit of a cave in previous areas there’s a section up there that was full of mobs that we had to deal with and that was okay we did all of that on the live stream but then this area showed up and I looked down and obviously the Ender is a bit of a concern but what is more of a concern is that there is a pretty large area of skulk down there now we are currently at y 52 so this is frankly the highest I have ever seen a deep dark biome creep into the surface Layers of the world normally when you’re looking at deep dark you’re looking at it from like y0 on downwards like it doesn’t normally show up above the Deep slate layers and this is a massive incursion into the upper layers of the world and we’re going to have to dig Down through this which is a concern because that could very easily spawn the warden and that’s going to bring a whole heap of trouble along with it I’m going to try my best to continue this experiment because I do still need to get down about another 100 layers or so Before we start hitting Bedrock but I am very concerned that at some point we may be digging into a patch with a lot of skull shriekers around and that’s going to get very dicey very quickly we might have to change our mining strategy but skull is kind of similar to Moss in that The tool to harvest it with is a hoe so maybe when all said and done we might get away with it by just mining out a few blocks down here and I don’t know how solid the terrain is but we are going to do our level best just in case We have to abandon this project Midway though I do want to show you folks a little bit of what we’ve achieved first of all it takes four Rockets to get to the top of this chunk now second of all we didn’t actually need to build the Glass roof over the top of this entire thing to begin with because what I’ve discovered is that it actually just rains in these Stony Peaks biomes instead of snowing I was thinking that regardless of the biome the mountain elevation would make it so that snow just occurred above a certain height but I guess since these are the mountains that occur in warm biomes obviously there’s a savannah literally all around us as far as this peak is concerned you don’t end up getting snow here so we could simply remove this glass roof but honestly that’s a bit more troubl than It’s worth at this point and this also indicates the height at which the tor tallest peak was just in case we want to do anything with it maybe restore it or something a little bit later but we can already see the sheer amount of coal and iron that is present in these upper Levels along with a great deal of emerald and as we go down through here the emerald ore diminishes there are a few layers around this point here where you don’t really find a great deal of ores at all and down here there’s like an area of nothing which leads down into Where copper starts to generate and then we still have some coal and we’re starting to get lapis generating after y 64 and further down into this Chunk we should start seeing a lot more copper and iron so this is all terrain generation as expected and the LA composting system has been great Although I have installed a manual composter because there’s a bottleneck presented by that Hopper Minecart eventually I just started churning out so much Moss that the LA couldn’t even keep up with it all so I’ve added in a second layer of composting that’s just filled manually by the player and that All goes into the same output chest and is now providing bone meal to the entire project since I’ve gathered about seven or eight full shulker boxes of moss blocks that are going to keep me going for the foreseeable future so as I said I’m going to continue with the project In its current state we are going to continue mining our way down through this chunk we’re probably going to end up running into trouble sooner or later and I will do my best to capture some of that trouble on camera if and when it happens okay so we just ran into our First major problem as we saw up there the deep dark has generated quite high up in the world and here we are down at Y8 so we are just getting to the point now in which deep slate comes into play but deep slate is not a problem for Moss Because bone mealing Moss can convert deep slate in the same way that it converts Natural Stone the problem I have run into however is that we are now tripping skull sensors inside the walls and in one corner which is thankfully not the corner I just walked into I Ended up tripping a skull sensor that alerted a skull shrier so there is now a possibility that the warden can spawn if if I continue to dig on down through this chunk thankfully I’ve been able to dig out this corner of the room just fine and we can sleep just to make sure That night doesn’t fall while we’re down here but at this point I am very concerned that the sound of blocks breaking nearby is going to alert that skull shrier once again I don’t know about the bone mealing process we might be okay doing this part but as soon as I Start shredding all of the Moss down here that’s going to be a problem and I’ve moved the LA down here recently so I’m fairly committed to this little Outpost of our Moss mining project but as soon as I start tripping skull shers we have a pretty major problem we could Be lucky enough that the skull shrier is far enough into the wall that it’s only going to be tripped by some very specific noises but I have a feeling it’s over here in this corner and at this point we’re going to see if it Trips Again you know what I think we Might actually have gotten away with it that time because I’m not seeing it happen again but the darkness did roll in but as long as I tread lightly in here amazingly I might be able to avoid the worst happening and a warden spawning inside of here which is great Because we are now at y5 and we really need to start getting down into the deeper layers of the world today remember that player activity is the only thing that trips skull shers so the elays aren’t going to cause any problems if they end up making noise near a skull Shrier it’s just the player yep NOP there’s another one there’s another one oh gosh oh gosh that’s not good and that’s over there in that corner right there so I got to be extra careful with what I’m doing I’m surprised that the note block isn’t setting it off to be Honest but that is my second strike with the warden it’s going to take another 10 minutes for one of those strikes to wear off so I might go away and make a cup of tea and leave the laise to do some of the composting for me but to be honest I Think the only other solution would be to try and dig through to that shrier and disable it by destroying it before it has a chance to spawn a warden down here and I don’t know exactly where the shrier is with two strikes on the card already I’m not prepared to risk digging Randomly through the structure around here and that’s a third strike so yep I think I will be taking a break at this point because right now I very concerned that the warden would get immediately attached to my LA and we end up killing a couple of them and even an laay with Its regeneration effect is not going to be able to stand up to a single Warden attack so you know what yeah I’m going to head up to the surface I’m going to AFK for a little while and we’re going to see if we can continue our dig on Downwards okay I’ve given it what I hope is half an hour so hopefully my strikes with the warden should have worn off and what I think I’m going to do is head down there try and get the rough coordinates of that corner and see if it’s possible to break out into a cave Nearby and find my way to the area where that skull shrier is so I can switch it off I don’t think we’re going to have an easy time of this but I think the alternative is continuing to dig down a few layers at a time Time Tripping that Skull Sher once every time we reach that corner and then potentially getting closer to it or potentially having to wait half an hour between layers that we can dig out and that’s honestly not going to work out for me so I think what I might do is come down here and let’s See if I can remember which corner it was I think it was this one over here by the copper deposit yeah this corner here is those coordinates okay I’m going to save those and then I’m going to come out into the cave system up there see if I can find my way down here and see if I can figure out which shrier to destroy looks like I do have a bit of a gauntlet ahead of me though because this Ravine is filled with skull and a pretty decent amount of skull catalysts at least appear here there’s definitely a geode Down there and you might have seen in the dig site over here we do have a geode in the wall which is pretty cool fortunately for me the deep dark should not spawn a great deal of mobs I see a shrier over there and it looks like it Might wrap around to the side of where our dig is so let me see if I can make my way down here I’m going to be quite careful about where I place torches so apologies if this footage ends up a little dark oh that’s perfect I can Actually hear the note block going off which means I’m relatively close and I have a feeling that this shrier here is the one we have been tripping let me check the coordinates real fast yeah that’s looking like it’s it so if I can get a little closer I will sneak a Little closer to these skull sensors they are definitely Tri repeatedly with the LA activity nearby but if I just hop down and keep crouching I should be able to destroy the shrier and that’ll be it I don’t think we should encounter any more issues with the shrier from now on and You know what I’m going to keep this as a bit of a trophy I think that was a pretty good stealth Mission let’s pop down a torch here activating all the skull sensors but no other shriekers nearby okay well that was actually relatively easy hopefully we shouldn’t Run into too many other situations like this but I have no idea what the cave structure around here is like we should be able to continue digging on down in this chunk and have no further issues until we reach the bottom of the world that is my hope let’s see if that hope Pays off oh my goodness you thought we were in trouble before we are definitely in trouble now I opened up this corner of the box we have done so much mining we are currently at29 had no more problems since that brief encounter with the skull and we’ have uncovered some frankly pretty Incredible veins of diamond ore there was one or two diamonds up there which kind of made me think oh maybe we’ll find some further down and this this occurred that is probably the most diamond ore I’ve ever seen in one place naturally occurring at least but then no Don’t go down there oh my gosh the LA the LA that’s not even the one that I uh have collecting Moss blocks so I really hope that other La yep floats back up thank you because down here is an ancient city these things are absolutely riddled with skull shers they Are the landmarks of the deep dark biome and I was not ready for this episode to happen I was not ready for the ancient city episode to occur fortunately I can postpone that slightly because I need to go and repair my tools but I am so committed to digging down through the Rest of this chunk that I’m going to try my best even if it means having to dig through bits of the ancient city for now though I’m going to throw all of this compostible stuff into the chest up here I’m going to return to the skeleton Spawner and repair my tools in fact I might go and trade with some villagers that might be another good way of getting the experience and the skull Sensers that are clicking in the walls right now are not going to be the biggest problem but the ones down there In the city are going to have a lot of shers around so I am very worried about that obviously at this point it is a little bit too late to segue this into an ancient city exploration episode so just trust that we will be getting to That at some point in the next couple of episodes for now I need to go and repair my tools and take the final plunge to the bottom of this chunk oh this is nerve-wracking but I think it’s maybe a little too early to call this but I Think we have manag to dig into an area of this ancient city where there are no active skull shriekers close to the area we’re digging obviously there are some over there and in the worst case scenario you can imagine some of the skull sensors picking up a sound from Over here and relaying it to a sculpt sha quite far away but in the process of digging out this kind of shelf that has formed here in the cave and we’ve also got a similar one on this opposite side I have dropped a few blocks over the Edge here and blocks dropping onto other blocks does create a vibration that a skull sensor can detect so you’d think if it was going to happen if we were going to trip a skull Sher we would already have done it and that means the only skull Sher we have really run into Throughout this entire dig has been that one up there in the cave layers instead of potentially hundreds of them down here in this ancient city at this point the need for caution and how long it takes to do this in the first place has meant that this episode is coming out Way later than I expected it to but it’s pretty much unavoidable at this point I think in the next episode we’re probably going to be exploring this ancient city even though it’s not the one directly underneath my base which is the one I assumed we would be exploring first but I can honestly say I got so lucky not realizing that there was going to be an ancient city down here but some somehow digging into a place we didn’t pick this spot for any particular reason other than that it was the highest peak in the mountain range so it’s so fortunate that We didn’t end up digging down into an area with a ton of skull shriekers you can hear the sensors going off presumably because yeah there’s a few blocks that have fallen onto them at this point and the LA have sort of given up because this is a little too far away For their detection range to notice that there are blocks for them to collect and honestly that’s a good thing because they wouldn’t trip the skull shers themselves we wouldn’t have to worry about that but if I accidentally spawned in a warden they would definitely be Drawn to the sound of the LA the LA would not know to get away from the warden and they could end up getting killed so I am very fortunate that we’re not going to be in a situation where that might happen and at the end of this We’re going to be left with a chunk of the world dug out to the Bedrock layer which should give us a decent sample of the ores that can generate within a single chunk so we’re really on the final stretch here I’m going to dig out this last slightly terrifying section And then I’ll come back and show you the full chunk before wrap up the episode okay we’ve done it we’ve actually reached the layer where Bedrock starts to generate and I’m not going to go any lower than this for now because Bedrock is going to start to get a Little bit randomly generated there’s a little bit of like kind of Bedrock spikiness that happens and it’s a little bit difficult to navigate once you’ve got all of the floor dug out so there might still be occasional ones and twos of ores generating around the Bedrock none of them are going to replace Bedrock and Bedrock will not have any holes in it that go through to the void Beyond but in this case I think we are going to be finishing up here and I’m going to grab some scaffolding so that we can Ascend and descend throughout the entire chunk and observe the different Ores that generate here and you’ll see plenty of patterns emerging as we do that but I just want to note that down here basically at 59 more or less the lowest level of the world that I would ever branch mine we do have three veins of diamond ore in separate locations in This single chunk not to mention a few that might be picked up in the ceiling here and there and of course that huge vein higher up so this is definitely the area you want to be if you’re looking for Diamond generation Minecraft will randomly choose what size veins are but It will choose locations for veins independently of that so it’s not like you’re only going to get seven diamond or from being down here each of these Diamond veins could contain eight diamonds if the game decides they generate that way so mining down here is definitely going to be a lucrative Prospect not to mention all the Redstone the gold and further up we have a bunch of emerald and whatnot we don’t have any deep slate emerald in this chunk sadly and the other thing we really need to do is get these alls out of here and back To safety which should be easy enough to do once we’re in the air with them all attached to leads because as we saw at the beginning of this video you can fly pretty well with LA once you’ve got that initial takeoff done but I think if we Use one of these or platforms as Launchpad we can probably take the laise up into the air now let’s see if we can get rid of the note block setup here and still have the ls follow me around a little bit we should hopefully be able to just step off this platform engage Our wings and fly up toward the surface H yeah unfortunately it looks like some of the LA have been snagged on the or block deposit as we went up there so that was not the best way of doing that let’s see if we can grab the leads again And maybe we’ll try using all of the ores as a stepping stone so for example I’ll try getting up towards the diamond or up here and see if the LA follow me to this point which they have okay this is good this looks like it’ll work out Let’s make it to this coal section next maybe on the copper on the side here then let’s Leap Frog up here to The Copper deposit right there and yep all four of them are following me up through the chunk so we can make our way slowly But surely up through this Maze of or blocks and that should allow us to get our way to the surface and with another leap we make it to the surface and all four of the Els have followed me they’re pretty good at doing that I think following UPS vertically is not too bad It’s the horizontal that is sometimes the challenge but we’ve now got all four of them attached to leads and with a slightly more gentle descent there we go we should be able to take to the air with all four of ours in tow and transport them back to the aazy river at Our base with the LA stored away let’s head back here grab some scaffolding we’re going to need a lot more than that and let’s see what we can do about observing and with the LA stashed away we’re going to craft some more scaffolding that should be enough we got About five Stacks there and that should allow us to observe all of the ores in the full height of the chunk we’ve just dug out somehow the wandering Traer has made his way up here as well that’s something I didn’t notice the first time around and he’s selling some interesting Stuff some Nautilus shells if we wanted to get a hold of those but we’re not worried about that right now even flying down through this chunk is kind of incredible you’re kind of taking a tour through all of the ores and the different layers in which they Distribute before we make it all the way down to deep slate level and things start looking a little bit murkier but the idea here is that we’re going to be finding a fairly Central block where the sky is visible directly above us doesn’t look like it’s going to be possible here Probably this block that we’re standing on right here if I’m looking directly up that’s probably the most Central block that we can get hold of and we’re going to start scaffolding on this block here we’re going to place scaffolding until we can’t place it anymore oh of course We put the glass ceiling up here didn’t we I completely forgot that we had done that and so we didn’t end up with with too much scaffolding we just ended up hitting our artificial ceiling here and so as we descend throughout this entire chunk you can obviously see that a lot Of ore and iron generates higher up in the mountains along with emerald ore and you’ll notice that those levels decrease as we descend you’ll still find pockets of emerald or here and there and a lot of this can be accounted for by the fact that there is more terrain at this level And the game isn’t going to generate ores just floating in the air of course so those had to be generated as part of the landscape and here you notice there are huge deposits of coal and iron which we’ll be gathering up because I want to clear out this chunk entirely but we Won’t do that in this video we’ll probably end up doing that on a live stream or something similar but the coal and iron deposits are going to thin out as we descend and we actually have a series of layers here between y 91 where this coal deposit ends and down here at Y83 where the copper ends up generating where we really don’t have any other ores visible there might not be any ores generating in the there at all there might be some in the walls nearby but in this section here it’s sort of a No Man’s Land of zero ores generating and Just Raw Stone so if you want to come mining for stone that might be a good level to mine at but if you want other precious materials you’re not really going to be finding anything in these layers of the world of course copper generation starts beyond that and we Start to see lapis generating below y 64 sort of below sea level and from there we move on down towards the iron generation levels where you’ll find iron starts to generate more and more until about Y6 where it reaches its peak you’ll also find the same thing Happening with copper ore as we step out onto this we’ll have a lot of copper as we progress further down in the world and then as we get even further down we start to see deep slate ores mixing in including some deep slate coal has generated in this lowest deposit of coal That we see here but beyond that which is at around y0 that’s the lowest you might expect expect to find coal you’re not going to find any coal or emeralds below more or less this point I think emeralds can still generate up until -6 but there is the smallest chance of deep Slate Emerald generating and you’re only ever going to find that in veins of one or two but at this point we start to see diamonds getting into the mix and it’s not until we get much lower down that we start to see frequent diamond or vein generation Redstone and gold becoming Much more frequent and then of course at the bottom of the world is where we’re going to find the majority of our d as we descend you’ll also see that I have left a couple of patches of stone here and there and that is not because I just Got lazy and missed those or anything these are actually infested Stone if we take a look at the F3 data there or we break this with a nons silk touch pickaxe those are actually silverfish blocks and I’m going to kill this one to make sure that we don’t damage any more Of them these could be moved or pushed with pistons if we wanted to we’ve isolated those simply because they would not be converted by Moss so if you spot any stone that doesn’t convert directly into Moss even despite repeated bone mealing attempts nearby that may end up Being silverfish stone that may be an infested stone block that contains a silverfish when you break it so silk touch that if you want the stone but if you want to play around with silverfish a little bit I don’t know why you would but if you wanted to prank your friends Or something like that then you can undertake the painstaking task of moving all of this around with pistons not exactly a precious resource but one that I thought was worth highlighting in this video and of course I am going to be stripping all of the ores out of this Chunk but I’m going to be doing that on a live stream so we won’t be able to do it for this video folks thank you so much for watching this look at Moss Mining and I cannot believe we have found an ancient city down there at the Bottom of the Chunk we decided to mine out we’re going to explore that ancient city in the next video but for now thank you so much for watching the Minecraft Survival Guide my name has been pixel riffs don’t forget to leave a like on this video If you enjoyed it subscribe If you want to see more and I’ll see you folks soon take care bye for now Video Information

The Minecraft Survival Guide Season 3 continues in Minecraft 1.20.2! In this tutorial, we find the highest chunk in our world and use moss to mine it out all the way to Bedrock!
Moss mining is a great technique for stripping all the material out of a chunk, leaving you with just the ores (and a few other blocks like gravel). It removes the need to set up a beacon for haste II, allows you to instamine deepslate (by converting it into moss), and can be self-sustaining if you compost all the moss blocks and byproducts!
We enlist the help of four allays to help us auto compost the moss, and dig down from Y:224 to Y:-59 – but a Deep Dark biome has generated below the area, and as we descend further, we risk awakening the Warden in the depths of an Ancient City structure!
