Do you remember mining your first diamond in Minecraft do you remember that childlike joy that comes with seeing those PE teal pixels maybe accidentally mining it with a stone pickaxe like a dumbass it’s an experience that Chances Are by watching this video you’ve experienced before however what if I’ve told you that Months or maybe even years before you’ve mined that diamond that you were late to the punch that there was a single person who before us all was the first player to mine a diamond in Minecraft single player today we’re going to find that player the this is the Quest for the First ever mined diamond in Minecraft before we scour the Internet it’s time for a history lesson Minecraft was released in 2009 but when it was released there weren’t any diamonds in the game for crying out loud the game looked like it could run on a Game Boy Minecraft at this stage of its existence Was a pretty barebones game with little more than basic features and items in the game it wouldn’t be until 1 year later on the 28th of January 2010 that Mojang would release the indev update in which we finally got diamonds around this time frame of the game there were Some pretty wacky features like stats I don’t even know what the hell these things are and there wasn’t a concept of a hunger bar yet so now you may be thinking find the first diamond that’s pretty easy just go on YouTube in Minecraft look for a video that was Released on the 28th of January which is exactly what I did and after scrolling through a myriad of videos at scream 2010 I was finally able to find a video released on that very day however when we play that video what we see is pretty disappointing there are a couple issues With this video the video was published number one by notch himself on an ALT account obviously when Notch was making the game he must have mined a diamond just to test its functionality however it doesn’t really even matter because in that video he doesn’t even see nor mins A single diamond with the limited amount of video recording software at the time it’s going to be a little bit difficult to find video evidence but that’s all right all you’re going to have to do is just dig a Little Deeper it was at this Point that I had to consult some of the classics and that’s when I came across the Minecraft forums these are the oldest forums available for Minecraft with posts dating back to 2009 when the game is still in its very early stages chances are if there’s anywhere where There would be evidence of the first mind diamond it would be here and so I began my search honestly I thought that this would be the end of the search there couldn’t have possibly been a way that no one decided to brag about the fact that they found diamonds first and Yet to my dismay I wasn’t able to find a single post from the day it was released sure I found posts following that day which confirmed the presence of diamonds in the game however when it came to an account an image or even some kind of Artifact that would lead me in the right direction it was kind of pointless I mean come on the oldest post I could could find about diamonds is about Diamond arrows which sounds cool but aren’t even a thing not to mention this post comes eight whole days after Diamonds were added to the game at this point I was at a loss for ideas I even made an attempt to search in the godforsaken Realms of Reddit which also led to nothing but dead ends so I decided to take a step back let’s lay out all the pieces of evidence that I Have so far we know that the earliest someone could have mined a diamond was around the 28th of January 2010 on the version inev 0.31 however what if diamond or was unofficially added to the game but not available underground I need to somehow prove that diamonds were Available on the day of January the 28th 2010 in order to figure out a date where I can look through archives and find some evidence so it was at this point that I knew it was time for some investigative journalism I need clear-cut proof that diamonds were able To be mined in this stage of the game in order to accomplish this I need to play the game in that version but if we look at the launcher those versions are unavailable for us to play and this is where betacraft comes into play betacraft is essentially a launcher that Contains all of the old versions of Minecraft including the inev versions in which diamonds were first added to the game so with that information in mind I loaded up a version from the 29th and 28th of January 2010 and just as expected after walking around for a bit On the sky island World Generation there they were diamond ore that for some reason you can punch with your fist essentially what this means for our Hunt is that now we know that we need to find footage or messages at least one or two days removed from this date it was at This point I decided to turn to Notch’s Tumblr page Notch used his Tumblr page as a way to update people on new changes added to the game around the 28th of January he did leave a couple of posts on the same day that diamonds were Released to the game so my goal now was to filter the posts by date and find anyone who had potentially left a note on that post around the time of the update there is a slight chance that the person who left to note may just be one Of the first players to play the game during this update and with that it allows me the ability to contact them from what I was able to gather I found what I think is the most likely candidate at the time that Tumblr page goes by the name Lex Seal’s ramblings I Figured that the best way to find the first player to mine a diamond would be to get direct contact from them and maybe I can even schedule an interview so with that goal in mind I was able to find their Twitter or X whatever the Hell Elon must calls it now in which I was able to find a source that led me to their email he sent back and I quote I’m sure I wasn’t the first cohort to mine a diamond since I followed in-depth closely but I’m sure I would not have Been the first person to do so as not would release versions at extremely inconvenient times for me end quote however this email was not a waste at all I now knew someone who could provide pretty good insight about the game to me so what this means is a few things we Know that the first person to mine a diamond must have mined it in the inev version of the game which will be important in a second and we can also confirm that lexel most likely isn’t the first person to m a diamond but as you might know I don’t think I almost found The first person to mine a diamond is a good video title so I decided I had to keep digging it was now time that I Unleashed a strategy that no cyber sleuth has ever thought of Google look I I know it seems stupid but with this Strategy in mind I was able to find a crucial part to solving this mystery let me explain obviously social media is the easiest way to find the first diamond maybe someone felt like bragging and posted it to websites like Twitter Facebook or even tumbling websites like Twitter especially there are ways that You can sort tweets by date and so I was able to go onto Twitter and I searched for all the Minecraft tweets from the start of Minecraft till about March the 1st 2010 when I did that the second tweet I stumbled upon was a tweet from a Bot that shared a link to an old YouTube video I typed the link into YouTube and what I saw blew my mind on February the 7th 2010 a YouTuber by the name of Rook uploaded a video called the minds of Minecraft meaning that this video was published a little More than a week after the update where diamonds were added to the game as a matter of fact if we look in his inventory he already has diamond tools meaning that he probably found diamonds prior to this video all in all meaning he could be the first player to mine a Diamond in Minecraft I was also able to get some pretty valuable information about the game at this time in his description you see around 2010 Minecraft was actually free to play however if you wanted access to the inev version of the game in which Diamond door was present in caves you’d have to Pay roughly $13 us to access the version this was a massive piece of information because it Narrows down the Search massively do you remember when I mentioned stats earlier being part of the minecraft.net website well if it’s true that you had to pay for indev that means that rather than searching for one Player out of 120,000 people I would only have to search for One in 6,000 which significantly increases the odds for me to find the first player so I already knew I had to find the guy that uploaded this video video so after some massive research I searched his name on Google I was able to find his name on the Minecraft forums with an attached email so even though he may not contact me back I emailed him in the hopes that he would respond and a few days later I got no response but now at least we have One potential suspect my goal now is to sift through any of his posts that might lead me towards more possible suspects and notably I was able to find a user by the name of dren and I decided to message him as he’s the earliest message I could find on the forums I was Eventually able to find his email and when I sent him a message he pointed me in the direction of another post by the user under the name men or however the hell you pronounce that name this was it the earliest mention of diamonds in the game on the Minecraft forums was on January the 30th of 2010 now all I had to do was contact him so I did what any reasonable person would I sifted through at least a couple thousand Forum posts only to stumble upon literally nothing I looked around everywhere I could but I was only able to find a potential Itch.io account even if this was his account it wasn’t very active it was then that I decided to look at his name MC profile and I saw that he just recently changed his name from menen to Bast toad since this was his new name I looked around under the new handle I was Just a glimpse away until finally I’d found it the Tumblr page or at least that’s what I think is the correct Tumblr page I messaged them asking for a contact and the response I got shook me to my core look in my defense he could have Said a lot worse I mean hey if you see an account by the name of sleuthing for an account I think anyone would be suspicious moreover his account showed some let’s say interesting posts so it was for that reason that I kind of called off the search for men as I Didn’t want to pester anyone more than I should have trying to find him now I could definitely continue to message all the people I found but take one good look at my upload moreover a lot of these accounts don’t have any corresponding emails so since it would Take a long time for me to sift through 6,000 potential accounts that may or may not exist let’s break down the potential suspects with the information we already have since Diamond door was initially found underground on January the 28th of 2010 it means we only have really a 1 To2 day window in which the first diamond may have been mined and according to the statistics page only around 6,000 players had inev at the time however when it comes to the first players to m a diamond in general the answer gets a little bit more difficult The closest source would be this thread in the Minecraft forums and this thread was created by a player called menet which if we search on namemc strangely enough points to the fact that his account was recently updated I made an attempt to try and find their email or Even message them through Tumblr but let’s just say it was um uncooperative on this original thread there are a few people who I also contacted their names are men Charles 445 Buster 2xk Master V dren blue totem and lastly R4 C7 from what all the contacts have told me none Of them claim to be the first player to mine a diamond if there was anyone who I would guess it would have to be Menan an account that has posted near daily from 2009 to 2010 however at this point it’s pretty hard to tell without any significant Contact information for now I’ll have to call off the search but if anyone has any proprietary information regarding Clues I’m more than open to hearing it the comments as for now it seems that sometimes some Mysteries are better left Unsolved Video Information

Millions of People, 1 Diamond, who did it first?
Santa Claus is back after another 6 month hiatus. Happy Holidays, and let’s just hope 2024 has more uploads. I really enjoyed making this project, however if you are from the future and have watched this video, it was a bit upsetting that I couldn’t really solve it. Oftentimes with these searches, it leads to a cold case, however, this won’t be the last time I make something like this, I’m coming for you Matpat. More videos soon…
