Hello and welcome to 101 ideas for Minecraft learners in this episode we’re gonna be looking at my childhood home okay for a good reason actually it’s actually a quite an old workshop a kind of idea or ice-breaking activity or even an intergenerational activity that you can do with friends family or if you Want to do it more formally you can do it within a whole group it is fantastically good fun so what I’ve done over here is I’ve got my the childhood home my childhood home that I remembered that I grew up in and I’ve built it in Minecraft Okay and I’ve I’ve taken it in I hope I’ve MC edited it into this world just to really give you an example of what can be achieved so the reason why this is such a good project is because you can do it on the PC you can do it on on Xbox you can do on Raspberry Pi you can do it on pretty much any kind of Minecraft II device you want and what you’re gonna get is that kind of lovely engagement hello listen villagers running around you’re gonna get that lovely engagement with with Minecraft and also you can have it Intergenerational did I say intergenerational yes I I think I did so what this really means is for a workshop idea what you can do is what is this so you can say you can ask some young people to learn about how to ask questions let’s go and pick up some Flowers over here okay ask questions to an older group maybe that’s their grandparents or maybe even their parents and the questions are gonna be something like you know where did you grow up what was it like but I want you to just to do more than just that surface amount of Questions you’ve got to go a little bit deeper you’ve got to really think about kind of asking an old generation where they lived and what it was like so much so that you can actually build right their house for them in Minecraft so you’ve got to kind of do this Investigation element to it first of all our scholarly questions either by recording it maybe on a phone or maybe on some sort of device or or getting a questionnaire written out and stuff like that and then using that questionnaire and those answers that you receive you know What was the front room like how big was it what cut we know what kind of table did you have what kind of lights up did you have you know where was your bedroom what was it like did you share your bedroom with anybody did you have any Brothers and sisters all these kind of questions okay from an older generation and then then the young people go off and they build the house so let me show you my house I’ll show you what I so this is the house I grew up in and it Was in the Midlands in a place near near lemming Tain’s bar I came Warwick ship okay my mom and dad still live here actually and we had a car and this this hit this but part the house this was an extension okay this is the garage so When I when we first arrived we didn’t have that and they’ve got a gate here and then we’ve got all the we’ve got the rubbish bins over here and we come around that this is we don’t normally when I go and visit my mum and dad we Never right we never go through the front door the front doors over here we never do that which is good always go around the back door always go around the back here so we kind of go down here and we round the corner there’s always pots and tomato plants And things apart and this is the kitchen and there’s tomato plants and things that listen you can notice over there oh that’s like a hanging basket you like do you like it there’s hanging baskets here and then that’s another part that’s another sort of extension this is the Garden I’ve got to sort the garden at the garden it’s not not very not very good no so well over the back door as soon as you come into the kitchen in my mum’s house as a kid that you know there’s a fridge over here and there’s Some I’ve got also jump on those sir there’s a garage over here now this is my mum doesn’t make jam and things like that in cakes the stuff that’s all over there let me just turn Auto jump off because it’s gonna it’s gonna annoy me Ever so much so we could talk about all these different places and what you can do is let’s go into the into the living room excuse me for everybody no no what’s happened dear oh I think maybe I’ve burnt the living room floor down and we gotta turn off let’s grab This put the living room floor back together again I suspect we had a little fire because I fires very good Wow let’s get some orange will and put this all back together again okay so this is art this is art is the TV that’s my TV model of the TV you’ve Got sofas and stuff for that so it’s very comfy I think of Berta sofa down on this corner as well the villagers are going completely berserk okay let’s have a little go and that’s upstairs I’ll show you my bedroom where I where I grew up So my this is my bedroom okay and that was my bed in this corner here my brother had his bedroom over there over there as well so we shared a room and we looked out onto the front this is like the kind of the street and we used to be Out of use of stuff we used to I used to open this window here okay and then we used to get our action men and put them on a beat this piece of string and zip wire them down to the front over there so there’s lots of stories that you can Tell inside of these you know your minecraft worlds okay now this is mom and dad’s room okay and then this was like the spare room but also kind of where where all the clothes were where where you could do ironing and stuff up it was also spare room and there is this The bathroom yeah the bathrooms here so it’s a great is a great couple don’t shut the door in my face it’s a great opportunity to kind of recreate things and into her and have fun with it at the same time and then what you can Do with it if you’re a young person and you’ve done this kind of thing and what you can do is you can actually take that world and have another conversation with either your parents or your grandparents or if you’re doing it in it within a community you can take the community Builds back to the community and talk again to the community so you can kind of get the young people to show the the their builds around and to start the conversation up okay so it’s it’s the valuable bit with all of this stuff isn’t the minecraft bit isn’t there kind Of a the digital digital building bit although that’s fun and extraordinary but they’re really seriously valuable stuff is the conversations that we start to have with different people from different generations so the young people will be talking to the older people and the older people will be Talking to the young people and they’ll be talking about the stories that they have got inside of them okay so you know talking about where you lived maybe or can also start up conversations for the young people about where they live and how they live so that’s a kind of an Important kind of thing and again we can do it really really successfully within Minecraft and as I said before you don’t need PC minecraft you can do this on your phone you tablet on Xbox anything look just that can produce it because it’s really up to the young people to Kind of design the stuff and doesn’t have to be this is reasonably well done there are people who can make even better houses than I have you know it’s just reasonably representational and so you can have that kind of lovely conversation around the my craft build And this is mom dad’s car that’s my girl that we got we actually had a fact when I was about 10 years old dad we didn’t have a car at all dad decided to get a van because he thought it’d be better and we all will want a holiday in a van Which is a bit odd and dad made a wooden seat with kind of funny seatbelts in the back all the days of my youth it’s so exciting okay so basically that’s my that’s this week’s that’s this week’s 101 ideas for Minecraft learners I’m gonna call it something you could call it an Intergenerational Minecraft project or you could call it just my childhood home it’s really really good and it’s something I have done on talks and told people about a little bit time but I’ve never really done it inside of 101 ideas from Minecraft learners so here it is Ladies and gentleman do join me again next week if you’ve enjoyed this video do give it like if you’ve built your
