Uncover the Forgotten Game: Minecraft PSX

In the year 1994 electronics company Sony would release a gaming console that would change the entire scene enter the PlayStation a powerful console known for introducing the world to the likes of Crash Bandicoot and Spyro the Dragon but what if I told you there’s another title another title that almost no one has

Heard of a title being called simply Minecraft now you’re probably screaming at your monitor right now Minecraft didn’t come out on the PlayStation until the PlayStation 3 release Minecraft has never been on the PlayStation 1 it didn’t come out until 2009 now that’s where you’re wrong and

That’s where I was wrong too now see I thought I had every version of Minecraft I have the 3DS version the WiiU version the 360 version the PS3 version the PS4 version the PS5 version Java I can keep going on and on I have pocket edition

Every version of the game but it’s not every version of the game in fact Java Edition isn’t even the original version of the game so like what’s the deal how was there this other version of Minecraft that no one knows about I didn’t know about

It and how did I find out about it well here’s the story not too long ago I went to a retro game store and I just kind of have fun looking at old games old gaming consoles and seeing what I can find for cheap prices so when I took a look at the

PlayStation 1 Section I happened to spum upon this case Minecraft PlayStation edition I thought that it was maybe a home brew some sort of joke but no it it was legit as far as I could tell now let’s go over this case real quick as you can see it’s kind of your

Average PlayStation one case but one thing you’ll notice very quick is that it’s not a normal PS1 case in the sense that well it’s like something like Final Fantasy 7 where the game itself is actually stored on multiple discs this game has three discs the first one being to load the

Overworld the second one for what is called the slip and the third one the end now I think it’s fairly obvious that the slip is some sort of early version of the nether just by looking at the dis you can see that and one of the strangest things

I’ve noticed about this case is that on the outside of the disc and on the back of the case is just jumbled text now obviously I don’t know what it says it doesn’t look like any language I’ve ever seen before and it’s on the back of the case on the discs it’s kind

Of everywhere but enough talking about the game let’s stop hyper analyzing the case and figuring all this out I think I think it’s time to whip out the PlayStation and put this game in here we Go Is well here we are the big moment Minecraft on the PlayStation 1 now I’m not really sure what to expect with this version uh other than what I’ve seen on the case but I’m I’m ready to try it out um it it’s definitely going to be an interesting

Experience so I got my controller hooked up ps1’s ready to go uh yeah let’s just let’s just get right into this so this uh this already looks a lot like Java Edition okay that’s definitely not like Java Edition that’s different to even Bedrock Edition okay let’s

See I suppose it makes sense the PS1 didn’t have like a built-in keyboard you know uh so we’ve got a bunch of the the kind of settings you’d expect here uh we’re just going to leave everything at normal cuz I want to get like right into this I want to see what

The deal with this version is so let’s go ahead and name it after to after the elusive release year 1998 the real release year of Minecraft which is still crazy for me to say I I can’t believe that this game actually came out in 1998 and was effectively like hidden from the

General public until 2009 but here we go let’s get right into this now the biggest thing for me is I want to find out why this game was hidden from the public uh and what reason they would have had to do that because um I can imagine that the game flopped

Because if this is anything like like the Minecraft we know it’s probably ahead of its time and people probably weren’t ready for it yet but I I want to know more about this version of the game because it it it just intrigues me but first we have to sit through a PS1 load

Screen so this could take a bit and oh God I am freezing the death so there’s there’s already stuff that that was not in the launch version of of java even so I I I don’t this is okay I I don’t really know what to expect here

I mean it looks like Minecraft on the PS1 okay so the first thing I’ve noticed immediately uh there is there’s not your traditional Hearts uh above your hot bar it’s actually like a a little bar on the side here as well as hunger and armor it looks like

Thing but let’s go ahead and just get this pickaxe made right here we want to make our way further down I think that’s ice down there the render distance is insanely low which I suppose makes a lot of sense for a game like this especially for a game that came out in

1998 oh Jesus I don’t actually want to stay here I don’t want to stay here Jesus Christ I’m not going to with uh with any skeletons right now I don’t think okay as for where I’m going to set up I’m actually really not sure so so far like First Impressions this

Is it feels a lot like Um Legacy console edition but on the PS1 oh okay we got iron that is perfect so already just from playing like this looks a lot to me like okay so to be completely clear I have no idea if the same people were at Mojang when this game came out so it’s

Highly possible that this this wasn’t even Notch’s game originally and he was the one who decided to bring it back or something I I don’t know one thing I am noticing is this has a lot of newer features which means that the whole time we were getting new content Mojang were actually

Recycling old content from the scrapped version of the game which uh is pretty insane and uh I’m okay well we’re not even that far in I’ve already found something kind of strange I don’t like this this looks like it just happened too okay well I think

Should we should we settle and build our house in this like near This creepy tunnel I mean I suppose we could right I I don’t know if I want to build here I that that tunnel is like creeping me out strange World Generation has always been something that’s like freaked me

The out since I was a kid in Minecraft so I think the goal here will be to build just a a small house for now and then we can always expand later down the line we just want somewhere to spend the first night uh as I I have a

Feeling playing Minecraft on the PlayStation One controller might be a little brutal what the those was not me who paused the game I suppose we could turn this into a m shaft but something something scares me about messing with uh with something I feel like I probably shouldn’t be messing

With oh you gain levels for crafting things very interesting for now since it’s already getting quite dark I think I’m just going to oh I don’t like this I’m already really scared I just want to get this roof done boom okay give me this I want to make some chal

I honestly don’t trust these windows as being as big as they are I don’t want like I I don’t want the potential of like a baby zombie or something to come through also what is that that is not the normal way it looks when placing things it’s interesting

Mining or at the very least clearing the ground out we could make the ground out of cobblestone I think Cobblestone might look good I don’t have too much more to add right now but you know Cobblestone Works actually I’m going to take it back for a moment I think we will use that

Tunnel uh to to turn it into a mine we are going to want to try and find diamonds or whatever else this version of the game has to offer I guess uh I I I actually have like insane chills playing this game I think it’s starting to get brighter outside

Is possible that because the game was written in a different like coding language and it was still 2009 maybe that’s why Minecraft went through such significant updates in those early years because porting all of this stuff might have been a nightmare or it was maybe just remade entirely from the ground up because

This brings me back to like old Minecraft like I I am but I mean I guess it is old Minecraft I don’t like that the screen goes entirely black when sleeping so I think home was this way somewhere I hope we can find our way

Home it’s very hard to tell like where I have and haven’t been with this uh this low render distance yeah I got I got to say one of the most like wild things uh about this version of the game is that something like a decade later after

This game came out the uh the game would then re-release as if it was a completely new game with this old version of the game being completely covered up and the new version being literally one of the best selling games of all time I guess it just kind of goes to show

That it it it really matters like when you release your games the first time around they kind of didn’t succeed and the second time around I guess they they captured lightning in a bottle am I even going the right way I heard it again and this is why you always take

Note of your coordinates which are literally on screen for me in this version and I still got lost oh ah we found home cool we’ve done it we’ve made it home oh wait I should probably place my bed I guess I can’t set my spawn oh it is dark outside oh no it’s

Um I don’t know why it does that I’m going to make a uh a second furnace I’m going to cook some of the pork chops I got Here all right cool and we’re going to make some torches too oh there’s a sort button I didn’t even see this why is this not in Java Edition or B okay um I don’t know what happened but uh my my recording crashed so I just I backed out of the world

Game uh I will say I feel very uneasy playing it and I I don’t know exactly why that is but I’m going to call it there so um I guess I’ll see you guys in the next one
