Ah minecraft it’s the kind of game oozing with imagination while there’s a general story you can follow all the way to the end for the most part players can do anything they want it’s one of the most recognizable games of all time just because of the limitless potential It offers and seeing the success is completely understandable of course there’s a whole lot more than just playing the game itself because with a massive group of fans you have a ton of content creators who put their heart and soul into their very own videos starting around 2011 a genre of content Started becoming increasingly popular on youtube one which would heavily associate with minecraft and any fans of the game welcome to the world of animated parodies which all share a similar style to each other there’d be a really well known song at the time everyone was singing which led to a Minecraftified version of that song not only that but entire music videos would be fully animated to match the lyrics making for a memorable watch that really had to be seen to be believed there may have been a bunch of mediocre parodies out there but the best of the best were genuinely impressive Yeah even looking back on them right now for anyone wondering how all of this started i think it’s safe to say that captain sparkles played a major role he was already an established minecraft content creator meaning he had a standing in the community and could do whatever he Wanted while knowing it would get attention in august of 2011 he released revenge a minecraft parody of usher’s dj goddess falling in love it was met with some criticism at first because people weren’t sure what to think of a weird parody that had no right existing But you know what the song was popular minecraft was popular put those two together and you’ll get a nice combination the parody features a story of its own as a player seeks revenge on a creeper the animation may not have been groundbreaking but this was the start of something that Would really drive the next few years forward why because it turned out to be more successful than anyone expected which led to other song parodies whether it be from captain sparkles or countless other minecraft channels i can’t talk about this stuff without mentioning fallen kingdom the well-known parody of coldplay’s viva la vida Love it or hate it you gotta admit this is kinda cool taking on the same tune but relating it to minecraft in every possible way the whole concept was creative the animation revealed several different kingdom builds that were crafted entirely for the song which immediately had you thinking Wow someone actually built that this came out in april of 2012 and it already showed some signs of improvement from revenge the whole concept of making a minecraft viva la vida does seem weird but i think it works surprisingly well when you stop thinking about the question why does this exist And instead accepts the fact that it’s here you can really appreciate what’s being offered the new take on the song is as catchy as ever the animation is high quality and it felt like it had a whole lot more effort thrown in than other youtube videos but things didn’t end here The entire minecraft parody trend grew so absolutely massive that every big channel you could think of was bringing something of their own to the plate i mean the video’s got views so could you really blame him over the next few years a bunch of incredibly memorable ones released don’t mind at night took Katy perry’s last friday night and you guessed it turned it into a weird minecraft parody at one point in the music video the main character straight up dies and he shows up in the next shot as a ghost with dancing skeletons are you really gonna look at this and Call it bad new world parodied cold place paradise and because this came out in the latter half of 2013 it was a clear evolution from some of the videos that released before everything here was well made from the music to the visuals and everything in between no matter which music video you’d watch There’d be some kind of objective for the main character to do and they’d be progressing further as the video reached its climax each video felt like its own mini world and while still taking place in the general game of minecraft brought unique characters and concepts to the table of course not Every single parody video was animated in the same exact way there’d be some variety screw the nether was a unique minecraft version of moves like jagger and once you listen to it it’s really hard not to start humming it yourself everything here may be 2d but the visuals from the game are still Replicated in the best way possible while it isn’t as impressive as the full-on 3d style most of the other videos went for this was still a fun watch another memorable one is how do i craft this again which parodied when can i see you again each shot would be entirely new and it Would still be in the same style of a music video keeping a viewer’s attention by making sure everything is fast paced even if you don’t want to watch the animation you can listen to the song in the background because it’s higher quality than expected By looking at google trends for minecraft’s parody we can get a sense of when the trends reached its peak this was mostly in 2013 and 2014 when the game was extremely popular always bringing new players with all the updates and other editions the sad thing is popularity of certain trends can’t last forever As time continued on less and less youtubers would post animated parodies they weren’t getting nearly as many views because everything that could have been done was already done minecraft slowed down its growth over time and it seems like we would stop seeing the music videos however history is unpredictable 2016 blessed us with the youtube channel minecraft awesome parodies it felt completely out of place because the time came and went for this trend but hey i’m welcoming it with open arms these music videos were more like music pictures because they featured a guy singing with a horrible mic in front Of a beautiful paint image like this if you look up perfection in the dictionary here’s what you’re gonna find the channel may have been a joke but it was only a hint for things to come you see a few years later when 2019 rolled around the internet started seeing something Weird minecraft had a major boost in popularity from big names on youtube who brought more attention to it fast forward to modern day and the game is as popular as ever which is really nice to see because the game is fun and with people playing again there have been a few more parodies Returned don’t get me wrong the previous era is gone and things will never return to that amount of success but there are still minecraft music videos coming today that we shouldn’t ignore but at the end of the day for any outsiders looking in these were just really cringy minecraft music videos But for people growing up with them they were much more than that i remember always watching them on the bus ride to camp and they made me happier than i think they should have yeah the videos were weird but they’ll still hold a special place in my heart for being Something unique but what’s your experience with minecraft animated music video parodies
