– Hey, what’s up guys I’m Vortac and welcome back to Minecraft 1.16 where today we are doing an overview of the refined storage mod. Now this is going to be kind of a basics overview. I’m gonna teach you how to use the mod and get started with storing some stuff and some things. And in the future we may need to cover this a little more indepth because this mod does a lot. If we actually type in @refine into JEI, you can just see the sheer amount of stuff and things that we could possibly go over. But that would make for a very long video. So I might need to do two or three more followups to this, just to make sure we cover everything. So today we’re just worried about storage. And the thing you’re looking at right in front of me is actually from creative mode. This is a creative controller. Now this is the heart of the network, the controller. You will need a controller but since I don’t have a power source hooked up right now, I cheated in a creative controller. You could certainly do that yourself in your own world but you would probably use refined storage In a heftier mod pack with a bunch of other mods. Therefore I recommend going for the regular controller and some kind of cool power source and stuff like that if you’re going to get into this mod. Let’s look at these chests. Now these chests I have some items in here, The ones specifically that I’m going to go over today. Let’s first, I did forget one regular old tables. I’ll just put those up there. We have importers, we have exporters, we have external storage. We have the different grids and of course a controller, which we’re not gonna use again I don’t have power And the disc drive. So let’s grab some of these things. I’m gonna go over the differences between all of these grids before we get into anything else. So I’m gonna show you the grid. Let’s put this right here and it lights up immediately cause it’s on the controller. And basically what this is, is a library of items. So if I go ahead and put down a disc drive, we can actually start storing stuff and it’ll show up in the grid. But for a disc drive we kind of need discs which is where this chest comes in. So I have all the different discs, I wanted to showcase that you can actually do fluid storage as well. Again, this mod gets kinda crazy. So you can actually store fluids for different crafting recipes and things like that. I’m just gonna go and grab a 1K storage disc, this holds 1000 items. I’m gonna put it in here. You’ll notice it pops in the drive right there. And we now actually have space. So if I didn’t have this disc drive in here, I couldn’t put anything in this crafting grid or regular grid rather. If I have a disc drive in it now, I can store things in the grid. And if we look, it has three out of 1K so it holds a thousand items just like that. So I’m gonna take these things back out. I’m going to show you the difference though between the regular grid and then the crafting grid So let me get rid of this. You would use to make the crafting grid, you actually need to make the grid first. You need a processor and I’m not gonna go over every single recipe today again, high level overview here and a crafting table. This makes a, let me find it a crafting grid which we’ll put right here. And now not only do we have the grid where we can store items but we can actually craft things from here. So I’ve placed a couple more items in here. We have some sticks and some diamonds. Again, this is gonna take up quite a bit of room in the disc drive, now we have 128 items taking up space in our disc drive. So that space does go quickly and you’ll notice also these buttons on the side. One of the ones I wanna focus on right now Is the search box. So I’m actually gonna JEI synchronize the search box and auto selected just means that this is lit up. So as soon as you open up the grid, you can start typing immediately. You can turn that on and off. So we can do date JEI synchronized, click up here And I’m gonna type in a shovel, I need a diamond shovel. And then I can simply click it, oops. I can simply hit r over the shovel, I’m in cheat mode that’s why I did that and it shows me the recipe. Hit plus and because I have diamonds and sticks In the hard drive, I can make as many shovels as I can possibly (laughs) craft with the items that I have in here. So you can kinda see how useful that becomes really really quickly. As I said before, everything attaches to the controller. So I’m gonna put the fluid grid down And you’ll notice it won’t light up. You have to attach it to the controller for it to light up. You can also using cables, put things at a distance. So I can take these cables and then hook things up that way. So you don’t have to have every single block touching the controller. It wouldn’t really work if you got too many machines, the controller would eventually run out of sides. But as long as you have cables, you can hook things up that way. And what I’ve just done is placed down a fluid grid. Now with fluid storage, I guess I could show you this real quick since I did place it down. We can throw a fluid storage disc drive in the same disc tower that we made before. So what’s cool about the fluid storage is I can open it up And now that I have a fluid disc drive in there, I can like shift click the water into here. So now there’s one bucket of water in the fluid grid and it’s just displayed as water. And I have a bucket on me. If I remove the bucket and try to grab the water, I can’t. You still need a receptacle. I guess I deleted the bucket by accident. So now that I have a bucket, I can actually grab the water and it’ll go in the bucket that I have. So that literally stores fluids for you Which is really really nice; especially as you get into auto crafting and you’ll see the fluid storage disc has a thousand of 64,000. So a thousand is one bucket of water. So that’s pretty cool. And the other thing I want to show you is the pattern grid. We’re not gonna get to play with this today, but this is for auto crafting. And you can essentially make patterns. You can just see everything in your inventory but you can essentially make and store patterns of things for auto crafting, which we will cover in a future video. But I just wanted to show you all the grids. So now that you have a pretty good idea of just all the different things this system can handle, I’m gonna show you a cool trick to make your storage life a little bit easier. Let’s say you have storage drawers Installed on your mod pack like I do, these guys. Basically a storage drawer holds a whole bunch of one item per slot so I can grab cobblestone, I can grab a whole stack of it. And I can take a storage drawer and plop it down and put my cobblestone in there. And this storage is 64 cobblestone. Let’s save a whole wall of these things and you want to access it through your storage network. This is one of my favorite favorite favorite things to do with this mod. Anyone who’s watched my streams knows that I’m obsessed with external storage. We’ll get to importers and exporters in that, basically in the auto crafting video, you can use these for auto crafting but that’s again coming later. I’m gonna show you right now the external storage. What I’ve done is I’ve made myself a little basement So I can more easily demonstrate how this is gonna work. I’m gonna pop a hole in the floor here just so I can like visualize what the heck’s going on. And what I’m doing is I’m gonna to take an external storage, let’s pretend this is a whole wall of storage drawers. I’m gonna shift right click it onto there and I’m gonna open it up. You can put different filters and things in here. There’s a whole bunch of different options. There’s a blacklist and whitelist mode. So you can actually determine, let’s say this external storage was a chest. You can determine what items get put in here and what I’m more focused on in the case of storage drawers is the priority. I’m gonna send to priority one. So what I’ve just done is put an external storage and put it on priority one. And now I’m gonna take these cables, these storage cables and hook them up to the controller. I’m hiding this under the floor, so my base looks nice. So I’m gonna put this block back and then on the top here you know, you’re none the wiser, you don’t know this is actually hooked up To a fancy network. What I’ve done though, is I’ve actually taken the cobblestone and put it, see how it disappeared from the storage drawers in the network. What’s even cooler though, pay attention to this. There’s 125 items in the 1k storage disc. If I put the cobblestone in here, There are still 125 items in the 1k storage disc, but the cobblestone has reappeared back into the storage drawer. And that is because of the priority setting that I showed you a second ago. When you open it up, you set your priority higher than zero. And now whenever you get cobblestone, The storage network is first gonna see, is there anywhere else this can go besides the discs, which is the most comfortable putting things in. Ah ah there’s a storage drawer that holds cobblestone. I will put it in there. Going off of a larger scale now, a storage drawer wall like I said, All of this stuff can be put into my simple storage or rather refined storage network. Simple storage has a different mod, check the link in the description for more on that. Let’s open up the floor here with a shovel. I’m gonna put the external storage on the drawer controller. I’m gonna do the same thing I did before, set the priority to one, grab my cables and just like we did before, hook it up. And now you will see that our storage drawer crafting or refined storage crafting grid has incorporated the storage door wall. And I can pull things out of here and put them back and it is no problem. So hopefully you understand the sheer power of this mod. It is crazy cool and you can do so much more with it. So please be on the lookout for follow up videos to this one. I would like to cover this more in depth with you but for the purposes of just getting you started with refined storage, I thought today it would be best to just cover it in a really simple fashion. Thank you so much for watching, I will see you in the next one. Video Information
