Minecraft is a staple in The Gaming Community and after originally releasing in 2012 they’ve released regular updates for many platforms not just bug fixes but adding new content often multiple times a year too along with this and its Creator’s dedication to the game it’s helped Minecraft stay relevant in a top Game for all of these years even in 2023 11 years later however since the caves and cliffs update Minecraft updates have just not felt the same they felt lackluster compared to previous updates many people just thinking that Mojang has gotten lazy but I don’t think that’s The case at all but they have made some mistakes that have affected the more recent updates so this is where I think it went wrong with the caves and cliffs update so Minecraft uses the same update system as many other games do when the game updates they track it with the Version number but rather than other games having a definitive name for the update Minecraft tends to go by this number more such as the 1.17 update being less known as the caves and cliffs update to quickly sum up how the number system works the one suggests that we’re On Minecraft one the way I’m assuming it’s gonna stay the 17 meaning is the 17th major content update and any numbers off to that are just bug fixes so right now we’re in 1.19.3 meaning we’ve had 19 major content updates over the 11 year span of the game so Naturally some have been better than the others but we usually get a few cool updates a year some notable ones being the end dimension in 1.0 the Redstone update in 1.5 the controversial 1.9 combat update the Aquatic update in 1.13 Village and pillage and 1.14 and the incredible 1.16 update to the nether Whilst we’re mentioning the 1.16 update let’s pause a second and speak a bit about the update because honestly it deserves it the update changed Minecraft the never before 1.16 was a Barren land Just One Singular biome One Singular structure and the only reason you really Went was for the blaze a mob that you need to kill for it to drop for beating the game there were a few other mobs yeah but they weren’t that useful some of the mobs were virtually pointless just for the insignificance of the drops compared to the effort it took to get Them magma cubes dropped Magma Cream which was used for making fire resistant potions which you don’t really need that many when you’re not spending longer than ever the gas drops the gas tier which gets you the Regeneration potions but the cost also shoots fireballs and breaks blocks and sets the ground around You on fire they’re kind of tricky to kill and they often float above lava with the 30 drop rate of the glass tier most people just kill them because they’re annoying the zombie pigment had a chance of dropping one Golden Nugget which you need nine of them just to make One gold ingot and when you punch one all of the Pigmen charge at you so for what you get in return it just really wasn’t worth the effort especially at this point there was no real use for gold the only other mob in the nether that was actually useful was the Wither Skeleton as it has a chance of dropping its head which you need them to spawn the Wither boss which you then need to beat to get a beacon but the grind to get said Beacon is a whole other issue because the Wither Skeleton only has a 2.5 chance of dropping its head upon Death that percentage is almost as crazy as only 1.4 percent of my viewers being subscribed sorry it was just too good of an opportunity to sneak in so hey check if you’re subscribed anyway like I said it has only a 2.5 chance of dropping and you need three of them to spawn the Wither then you need to defeat her then you need to get all the materials to craft the beacon and then you need to fully power it and to fully power it the easiest way you’re doing this is with 164 blocks of iron or 1476 iron ingots a lot of work that’s Probably why only 1.1 percent of Xbox players have completed the achievement for getting a fully powered Beacon but other than mobs there was no real reason to go to the nether unless you know you’re a freak and you like The Limited blocks that are provided so for the 1.16 Update they did a huge overhaul to the nether to start there was a bunch of new Mobs added the Strider which is a Cute Mob that you use to Traverse the never Lakes which were previously a huge pain to deal with the hoglands which are a Hostile big pig mob that provides a food source so when you run out of food you don’t need to go back to the surface Zombie Pigmen were replaced with the redesigned version the zombified piglin which is a zombie version of the new mob the piglin which addressed some of the Lack of use for gold if you don’t wear gold armor they’ll attack you but also if you drop them some gold they’ll battle with you and you can trade them for some pretty cool items stuff like ender pearls obsidian or things like iron boots with the new enchantment Soul Speed meaning you can finally run fast across salsa to go along with the piglens they also had a really cool structure called the Bastian which served as a home for the piglens and were made out of the new cool block Blackstone these places can be very Dangerous but it’s filled with a lot of gold blocks and some chess with some pretty op loot so it’s a high risk High reward type thing that encouraged players to stay in the nether longer some have said really good loot included netherray a new armor and tool set That’s actually even better than Diamond not easy to get though it can only be found in the Nether and just to get one bar of it you need to mine four ancient debris then smelt into netherrite scrap and combine that with four gold ingots which made another use for gold it made Getting a full set of tools and armor quite the grind but hey it’s worth the trade-off for it being a lot better and oh it’s also fireproof yeah you can literally just throw it in lava and it will bounce so no more losing those tools if you fall in the lava pits this Update also added some new biomes such as the two forest biomes that provided two new wood types meaning you don’t need to go back to the Overworld for some sticks in case one of your weapons breaks and these trees also had a new light source blocking another biome was The solstan valley which would sound unbearable to an older player but with the new Soul speed you just blaze through them the last time that was added was the basalt Deltas which quite honestly I hate them because of how dangerous they are and how hard they are To navigate but hey they gave some extra difficulty and variety to the nether he did happen to die in this biome don’t worry because you could get a respawn anchor now that respawns you in the nether you place it down and fill it with Glowstone meaning you don’t even Have to try and sleep in the nether anymore the nether’s now fully self-sufficient but if you do need to get back to the Overworld and you can’t happen to find your portal it’s fine because you can find these new ruined portals which most of the time they have All of the supplies you need to build and open a portal these can also be found in the Overworld which gives you early access to another and some nice loot for early game on top of that it also pushes new players in the direction of the nether I could go on about this Update forever with all the new mechanics and range of new blocks added but something tells me I’m a few years late for that video so just let me know in the comments what your favorite addition was from the 1.16 update now back to what you clicked in the video For what went wrong with the caves and cliffs update was there too much to live up to well Windows 16 was really hard to beat but they don’t necessarily have to Minecraft will continue to add cool updates and new content in each update so you shouldn’t really call an update Bad just because it wasn’t as good as the 1.16 update well unless we’re on about the 1.15 update which literally just added B’s and beehives don’t get me wrong I love them but that’s all anyway like I said the 1.16 update was a lot to match and 1.17 having potentially less Content doesn’t objectively make it a bad update so the 1.17 update was announced everyone including myself was streaming their live reactions to this announcement and it was incredible the caves and cliffs updates added a bunch of new content and updated features and it was honestly quite a similar scale to The nether update but focused on two other aspects of Minecraft that didn’t really get enough love from the devs the caves and well the cliffs people have been asking for updates for these two things for years caves they were too plain the normal cave generation just All looked the same the only really cool thing in them was the rare mine shaft and everything else was the same doc dingy and same repeating themes with boring textures Cliffs or mountains were also the same theme too plain most mountains just resembled mounds of dirt and for people exploring the Overworld The game needed more visually pleasing stuff just to make you stop and appreciate the beauty of Minecraft shaders or not and so it was time for the next changes off the start caves went deeper Cliffs went higher seeing the Bedrock floor now all the way down At y-64 compared to it being zero before and the mountains now spawn more well Mountain like with a build limit of up to 320 compared to 264 and terrain generating all the way up to y256 now let’s split these into two halves and talk about the caves First Once wall Change saw all of the ore textures completely be reworked each one looked different at first it threw a lot of people off as everyone was so used to the old textures but this small change accommodates really well for colorblind people so this was a cool small change If you were to dig down in this new update you would also notice a new block around the Y8 level and this is called Deep slate which is a harder darker Stone variant with all of the same subvariants for stuff like Cobblestone and stone but you might not even need to Dig down to find this though because caves are now a lot more common and some of them are huge like look at this they’re beautiful they’re spaghetti caves which are more normal to the old caves as well as cheese caves which are named after swiss cheese and are these Big wide caves with natural pillars and spikes on the roof and floor occasional Lava Lakes and large bodies of water that could have two new Mobs sworn axolotls and the mob Vault winner the glow squid these caves now being so big were just perfect to glide through with An Electra and whilst doing this you might spot a few new things like the difference in mine shafts which can now be suspending in the air held up by chains and sometimes supported by long logs that connect right to the ground you could also find these super pretty amethyst geodes which look incredible And also Sounder and easily the best type of new caves is the Lush caves filled with green vegetation and things like moss flower blossoms glow Berry Vines drip leaves small Azalea trees a bunch of pretty stuff to light up the caves quite literally now if you do do Go really deep in these caves though you might sometimes find the dangerous deep dark which can contain skulk blocks skulk sensors which can detect sounds and vibrations and output a redstone signal but also can set off the skull shriekers which will summon the new Warden which is kind of a boss that’s Blind and locates you through vibrations sounds and smells but it’s super dangerous and will also give you blindness the mob is quite literally designed for you to avoid it if you want to play it really risky though you can sometimes find these rare ancient cities it’s a whole underground city which is Loaded with skulk sensors and can easily spawn multiple wardens they will destroy you super fast but hey if you do risk it some of the loot you find in these can really make up for it now that we’ve reached the very bottom of the caves let’s go right back up to the surface And tackle the cliff side of this update like I said the cliffs are going way higher now and there are things now that look like actual mountains that give some height and sights to the game starting with the meadow which is a little bit higher in mountainous planes Biome and the Grove which is the snowy equivalent of this the rest of the new biomes are more traditional mountains with a few subtypes I’m sure you even guess what makes each one different being the jagged pigs the Frozen Peaks the snowy slopes and the Stony Peeps and On top of some of these mountains were none other than the mountain goats they’re quite cute but can be a little aggressive and will charge at you and send you flying in the sky but also if you manage to make them head by a tree it’ll drop one of their horns which each Horn has a chance of being a different variant and you can play them either as a battle horn or a little instrument and in itself it’s kind of a flex because they’re quite rare and they’re quite tricky to get on some of these Snowy Mountains you got to be careful though As there’s a very slightly different textured snow block called the powdered snow think of it like snow but quicksand you sink right through it and it could land you in a cave or it could just send you to the bottom and quite literally freeze you to death so make sure to Think fast they can be used to make some cool traps in secret houses but easily the coolest thing is you can pick them up in a bucket and use it like water you can MLG with snow and you can even use it in the nether finally MLG clutches in The nether it’s brilliant overall above the caves they just completely reworked how terrain generates and makes things make you just stop and admire it they also added a few extra things like a copper or set which includes the copper Rod that absorbs lightning meaning your wooden roofs won’t catch on fire handles Tinted glass that doesn’t let light through it new music discs a bunch of stuff then in 1.18 and 1.19 there are a few new pieces of content but nothing huge but it did add some cool things like tadpoles frogs frog lights a new swamp biome called The Mangrove that has Trees that you can plant underwater mud and other mud variants and the new mod vote winner the Olay which is a mob that can pick up items and drop them in locations you want and it’s also super cute so now that you know what was added since 1.16 content really did Stack Up Against the previous update so what went wrong with the caves and cliffs update why did it not feel as good as 1.16 well one issue that happened was everything in this update was split into multiple updates there was a part one and a part two but everything was announced as one People got excited about this load of new content and in the end they found out it was being split into Parts which isn’t necessarily a bad thing but it was a bit annoying seeing things like the warden and its structures and blocks being announced for 1.17 and then didn’t End up getting added till the 1.19 update the new cave and Mountain Generations was held back to 1.18 and those two things alone were the most anticipated features even stuff like the archeology stuff hasn’t even made its way into the game yet now this isn’t Minecraft just being lazy game Development and iterations really do just take that much time I don’t know if they should have announced it all in one but I assume that they probably thought it was going to be done in time and it just wasn’t so it wasn’t really Minecraft’s fault and I also don’t blame The players for getting excited for them early just an unfortunate situation now that being said I do think there is a reason on Minecraft’s part that made this update not filter the scale of 1.16 and it’s not the content being worse it’s incredible right the issue I had Was the majority of the content you just hardly see in Survival Minecraft the caves sure you see them a lot and they’re really cool and probably the best thing that came out of this update all of the other content was really cool but you just didn’t see it enough the Warden and ancient sea are super rare so you don’t tend to stumble across it the mountains as well are quite rare The Mangrove swamp is quite rare frogs are kind of rare given that they’re only found in swamp biomes the Olay is super rare bearing in mind it’s found the Woodland mansion and only has a chance of spawning in the already rare villager outposts I mean since it was added I’ve not come across one in Survival Minecraft of you all this new really cool content was just too rare of a chance of fighting in survival so for a Lot of people it probably just felt unupted for the most part when you compare this to the nether update you can’t go to the nether without seeing all of this new content in one so it makes sense why people didn’t rate the updates after 1.16 as much do I think Minecraft did bad with the content in the new updates no they’ve all been great I just really wish you would see it more commonly in the game so if there are any Minecraft devs watching this hey thanks for making all of these amazing updates I just hope in the future you Can work on some stuff that you will see in a day-to-day basis that’s gonna be it for today’s video thank you for watching all the way to the end if you did enjoy it please give that subscribe button to press it is free at the end of the day And I spend hours on these videos so it’d be greatly appreciated anyway that’s it for me thank you guys and I’ll see you later bye Video Information
