Why are wardens blind in minecraft to understand the warden we need to understand the sculk in the ancient cities what is sculk and where did it come from and why were the ancient cities built That is what we will figure out in this video we first need to look at the ancient cities a giant structure released in minecraft 1.19 the sculk and warden seemed to be otherworldly creatures which infected and took over the cities slowly spreading out to become the deep dark biomes underground how Do these ancient cities relate to the stronghold since the stronghold has been around for a lot longer than the ancient cities i think it is safe to assume that the strongholds were built first my current theory is that the strongholds were built by a small team of researchers and scientists Unlike the ancient cities the strongholds don’t look like a place for civilians to live in it looks more like a laboratory after the stronghold was built and the coast was clear the ancient people of the past the ancient builders built a massive city underground as the name implies Ancient cities once supported a big population of people while the strongholds were only populated by researchers so why were these underground bases built let me quickly explain to you the lore to help you better understand the context a minecraft plague at one point quickly infected In ancient race of players turning them into the zombies and skeletons which roamed the overworld the researchers in the strongholds found out that the cure was simply a golden apple and a weakness potion the golden apple at the center of the ancient city chests indicate that the cure was Sent from the stronghold to the ancient cities the ancient cities were built deep underground in the deep slate so that the civilians were safer from the zombie plague all above ground structures were abandoned the ancient builders seemed it to have tried to enjoy life underground And kept clean judging by the pools they seemed to have lived off of glowberries judging by the ancient city loot but living underground plus the zombie cure only bought them time to try to escape escape to a new dimension the zombie plague eventually infected the caves since most ancient Builders fled underground this would explain why most undead mobs are found beneath the surface the researchers and the strongholds figured out how to make an end portal in disc 5 a new disc added in minecraft 1.19 there is a part where you can hear lava and silverfish indicating that this is the End portal room you also soon after hear a bunch of screeches which i theorized were the many ender dragons which once roamed the end the researchers fled into the end kind of screwing over everyone else in the ancient cities people in the underground cities would have to figure out how To escape on their own since their population was a lot greater than the small team of researchers they would need to create a way bigger portal they somehow created reinforced a deep slate and used the energy from souls as clearly seen by the soul fire to power the portal all seemed good until They attempted to light it we now need to look at minecraft’s ruined portals whenever the ancient builders lit these portals for whatever reason netherrack and other nether junk spilled out the same mechanic could apply to the massive portal inside ancient cities when they lit to the giant Portal otherworldly sculk and the warden spewed out similar to the otherworldly netherrack that spilled out of nether portals this can be heard in disc 5 the portal is lit and the sculk center is activated and the warden jumps out of the border this portal could have been only temporarily open But it was just enough time for the sculk to emerge ready to infect this new dimension at first the ancient builders tried to cope with the warden and this new invasive species at first the warden was considered just an innocent block which could power their redstone lamps and Contraptions but oh no the sculk was much more dangerous than they thought wild sculk kept on growing off of dead mobs to please the warden they placed wool to prevent making sounds and even worship to the warden as seen by the candles and shrines diamond hose inside chest to indicate That the ancient builders tried to get rid of the sculk but it was too late the snowballs inside the ancient city chests indicate that they tried to fight back or tried to distract the warden but the warden was too powerful and kept emerging from the sculk every time they were killed since no Undead mobs spawned in ancient cities unlike everywhere else the zombie plague didn’t infect the ancient builders inside the ancient cities lucky for them but the warden killed off everyone inside the cities the sculk continues to spread underground creating the giant deep dark biomes Quick mini-theory it seems like long after the ancient builders were dead the pillagers came to explore the remains they might have gone into the strongholds in ancient cities themselves might have even taken a few magical things proof of this is that you can see these dark oak structures that Seem to be placed on top of the ancient cities they look vaguely familiar to the pillager outposts proof they saw the strongholds at one point is that inside the woodland mansions there is an end portal room made out of wool they might have found the allies inside the ancient cities And captured them trapping them inside their woodland mansions and outposts where they were turned into vexes totems of undying may have been items stolen by illagers proof that alleys were probably in ancient cities is that there are music discs and amethyst shards inside the city chest Giving an allay in amethyst shard while it is dancing to music will cause it to duplicate anyways now that you understand the minecraft lore let’s analyze the sculk and finally answer the question of why wardens are blind judging by my own observations of the sculk it behaves in Many ways like a cancer sculks grow by consuming the souls of creatures that die near it while cancer grows by stealing nutrients from a host it does this through the use of the sculk catalyst we know that the sculk collects souls since sculk catalysts release soul particles and the warden And sculk shrieker both show soul animations an interesting thing i noted though is that sculk only spreads if a mob dies near it that drops experience orbs but anyways let’s continue the sculk seems to be a living sentient being of sorts it can grow when has veins side note echo shards Seem to be amethyst shards that were infected by sculk just wanted to point that out since amethyst can be found inside the ancient cities and they look suspiciously similar it’s pretty obvious that sculk harvests the power of souls but there is one other block that traps souls as well and that is Soul sand i theorize that these two blocks the sculk and the soul sand have a lot in common and potentially share a connection looking at the soul sand itself you can clearly see soul screaming Inside and when you walk on them with soul speed boots you can see souls escaping the souls seem to give off energy which is why soul speed makes you walk faster on soul sand the same applies With the skulk the skulk sucks the souls out of mobs and uses it to grow like a cancer souls and minecraft seem to be represented by the color cyan this is why soul sand and soul fire are cyan the Souls give off an energy that powers these blocks the reason i point out this connection is because soul lanterns are commonly found throughout ancient cities and soul fire seemed to power the massive city center both soul sand and sculk can be found in pockets underground whether that Is the overworld or nether depending on where the creature died since the sculk is a living being it will do whatever is in its best interest to be able to survive and thrive the warden which emerges from the sculk helps protect and spread the skull they were originally labeled undead mobs But they are not anymore so i don’t think they are like an undead iron golem or something this is where wardens get their names since they guard the sculk and ward off others that would hurt it since wardens only drop skull catalysts a block which helps spread the sculk i theorize that they Have two jobs to protect the skull and to spread it so why are they blind my theory is that it’s to prevent the warden from being too aggressive think about it if the warden had eyes it would kill everything in its tracks with the warden being too overpowered everyone would work together to Get rid of the giant threat killing the species with the warden being blind it is in everyone’s best interest to just leave it alone and to sneak by nobody would want to attempt to mine the sculk Since it would just aggro the warded so the sculk gets to thrive for undead moms however the warden can easily kill them causing their souls to help the skull catalyst to spread sculk might also grow whenever a dead player is buried underground when a warden dies its one and only skull catalyst is Placed down to continue spreading the skull or maybe when the warden buries itself it actually starts the next seed for sculk to start growing another theory is that maybe the dimension from which sculk originated from is pitch black there’s no confirmation that the city center in ancient Cities is actually a portal though so we’ll have to see this portal could have just temporarily opened for this theory to work anyways if there is no light and it is pitch black in this new Dimension then what is the point of eyes right so the warden is blind either to keep it from being over aggressive or because eyes were pointless in the dark dimension they came from and so the sculk will keep on spreading and infecting until everything in the overworld becomes sculk i hope You enjoyed this minecraft theory *subscribe* if you liked it
