Yeah I played Minecraft Legends and its scuffed PvP (review)

Hey guys Sean mcdubs here yeah I played Minecraft Legends so I went into this game with no expectations because I’ll be honest I’ve never actually gotten into Minecraft it’s just not the normal type of game I like to play but that’s why I was so interested in Minecraft

Legends because I do like strategy games and I have really gotten into some strategy games in the past the initial experience of Minecraft Legends is that it’s a strategy game where you kind of run around not really knowing what’s going on or what you’re doing until things just kind of happen and that’s

When you start to figure it out and that’s because the game barely explains much outside the basic controls at its core this game is just about spawning mob creatures that you control Gathering resources and building defenses and upgrades I started with the campaign just to like get the hang of the game

There was a tutorial but it really just gives you the basic controls and then throws you right in and starts giving you more like abilities and it doesn’t really explain them the campaign from me was honestly kind of boring and way too easy you can’t actually attack any of

The structures you’re supposed to destroy so you kind of just have to wait for your little army to destroy everything for you the graphics look awesome in 4k on series X and I found the world to be a very nice place to kind of just hang out in and explore

Even if it seems a little empty the controls are a little wacky on controller it definitely seems like this game would play a lot better on PC with a mouse and keyboard so if you’re playing on controller just expect that it’s going to take a little bit of

Getting used to I stopped playing the campaign within like 30 minutes because it felt like a complete waste of time for someone like me specifically but if you’re looking for like a relatively relaxing strategy game sort of single player experience I think you might like it so instead of playing campaign I just

Threw myself into the PVP and started working to get the hang of it at its core the PVP is pretty simple you know each team has a main structure at their base and you got to destroy it while Defending Your Own I was extremely overwhelmed because there’s no tutorial

For the PVP but I gotta say here’s the thing I barely played the campaign and most strategy games give you a pretty you know long and in-depth tutorial you know like in the campaign so even though I felt overwhelmed it really didn’t take me that long to start getting the basics

Of this game down I think that’s a huge positive for this game that even though it’s a strategy game you can jump in relatively quickly compared to most other strategy games I would say Minecraft Legends PVP has a good amount of fun moments once you get the hang of

It and when you finally win it is extremely satisfying because it’s just not easy to win there we go there we go oh it’s done oh it’s done oh it’s done you’re too late you’re too late yeah too late yes let’s go that being said it seems to

Have some pretty like major issues that are certainly going to hold it back from what I think is some great potential here so no particular order here’s some big issues so first of all you could teleport back to your home base in seconds and when you do this any like

Little army units that you have under your control they teleport back with you dude imagine a strategy game where you can teleport your units back to your home base you know if it’s being attacked like like you can teleport them back instantly that’s Minecraft Legends this is really annoying because if you

Happen to you know use some smart strategy and attack your enemies base at like the right time and catch them off guard they just instantly show back up with like a full army with all their armies with them and you just get destroyed for that reason alone it is

Extremely like frustrating and difficult to break into your enemy’s base and take out their main structure like it’s almost Luck winning one of these games because you have to hope that somebody on the other team is just dumb enough not to teleport back so that’s a huge

Issue I think next one is you can’t communicate with your teammates that you get matched with this game really requires teamwork in particular attacking the enemy base at the same time and in a coordinated fashion because again because the enemy can just teleport back on their own attacking

Solo is pretty much impossible now although this is like a huge problem right now I I do think it could get better over time because people will start to understand how to play this game more so when they see their teammates like launching an attack they’ll join them well right now with

The game uh the way it is like it’s just it’s a huge problem dude now the last like huge issue with this game is unfortunately it’s the it’s with the mobs first of all it’s a huge pain to like move around and manage your mob and that’s because unlike other strategy

Games where you have an overhead view of you know what’s going on in this game you have like third person you’re just walking around as a little character so since you don’t have that nice overhead view of like what the hell’s going on it’s very hard to kind of like direct

Your mob your little army around and again this is probably another situation where playing on PC would be a lot better than controller but yeah because the game is third person it’s very difficult to even like be able to tell which uh you know of your mob your

Little army is actually under your control because you can have them stay in one spot you can have them follow you you can direct them to other places so you can just lose track of them very quickly and it’s hard to tell which ones are actually following you how many are

Following you it’s just kind of a problem I’m not exactly sure what the solution is maybe they need to be highlighted better they maybe they need different colors like when they’re following you maybe the outline should be one color and when they’re stationary they’re one color you know so you could

Tell like what the hell is going on but as the way it is now is very hard to manage your little mob your little army another incredibly annoying thing about your mob your little army is that when you’re in your home base you can recall mobs back to the base so your teammates

Any of your teammates that are back at your home base they can just take your mob any mob that you have following around with you they can just summon them back to base instantly so you will find yourself like out in the world you know trying to gather resources or or

Attack enemies attack the enemy base and then your mob will just poof it’ll just it’ll just disappear this is the most L thing ever like it like it is so so frustrating the problem is that each team has a set amount of mobs that they can summon okay you can increase that

Amount from the starting amount I think it starts at like 40 you can get up to 60. you can get all the way up to a hundred but it’s very much like a shared pool so that’s why your teammates can just take them back from you and you

Could take them back from them so there’s a lot of room for like trolling I think the way it should work is that the total amount that you can summon at any given moment should be split between all the players but man like just just imagine a strategy game where your

Teammate can literally just take control of all your units instantly and just move them back to the home base and there’s nothing you can do to stop that now obviously Minecraft in this game definitely seemed geared more towards kids which does leave me wondering if they even want someone like me playing

This it’s hard to tell how intentional this kind of like deal-breaking stuff is so I don’t know if they will even be open to changing it like the ability to teleport back to your base instantly seems like something they put in there to keep kids from screaming and raging

Because like they made a poor tactical decision to like go way too far away from their base at the wrong time and now it’s getting destroyed and they can’t even get back to the base before it gets destroyed oh just put a Teleport you know feature in there to keep those

Kids happy I don’t know you know like any strategy game it’s built around the units you control you know and the strategy around using those units to destroy your enemy and in this game it’s just a huge pain to actually like control and move your units around get

Them to do what you want and then there’s some really broken features like teleporting and your teammates are being able to just take units away from you so that’s kind of a huge problem so in conclusion I think this game actually does have a lot of depth to it the more

You play it you realize that and there’s definitely like a lot of potential here like it has its moments where it is quite fun but at least for me it is definitely held back by some pretty major flaws I would say if you have Game

Pass it’s a no-brainer to try give it a try I think you’ll like it personally I would just skip the campaign just jump right into the PVP you’re gonna be confused for the first hour or so but you’ll start to pick it up pretty quickly now if you don’t have Game Pass

Should you spend money on this game uh honestly I would say definitely wait at this point and see what other people are saying see like if like a few weeks from now or even a couple weeks from now if people are still playing this thing you

Know because I think the PVP is the only thing that would possibly be worth paying for and right now it’s just not that great so if I’m right about these flaws with it I don’t think it’s going to be able to stay popular for all that
