What’s popngamers it is me leon with a brand new seven quick tips video this week we’re doing something a little bit different as you know i recently started making longer building better biomes videos and the building process for making those involves a lot of terraforming i also got this comment From sunanda mature to do a terraforming video so shout outs to them it’s a pretty good idea so with those in mind i realized that i could make a terraforming video in a seven quick tips format but why is it different you ask well instead of giving you tips i’m Going to go through seven common landscaping situations that you might find yourself in often and give you my best advice on them all so with that being said strap yourselves in for um uh the seven common situations that you’ll encounter when terraforming in minecraft yup that’s the title number one basically anytime you’re Terraforming near water you’re gonna have to negotiate the transition between the above blocks and the underwater ones and this can be really annoying default minecraft beaches and rivers don’t always look too great like look at this yikes so the first thing i recommend is to get yourself some slabs smooth Sandstone regular sandstone andesite and stone are all great especially in sandy areas like beaches you’re going to want to use these to ease the transition into the water check out how i’ve used them to make this little beach look a lot nicer you’ve also probably noticed that there’s a really sharp ugly contrast Between sand and grass this is just because the game puts random pockets of sand by rivers and oceans but the real world is definitely not like this as you probably know the real world has transition areas between its green and its sandy areas in minecraft this can be Difficult to pull off but it’s not impossible first of all you can use textures that are kinda in like the middle ground green concrete powder moss and the top of azalea bushes are all nice yellow green textures the second way is to do something like this this Looks a lot better on a large scale than a small scale but you can see that i’ve roughened up the transition in order to blend it better try using a combination of these two techniques to make your rivers and oceanfront landscapes a lot nicer number two okay yeah if you’ve seen my Building better biomes video from last week when i made a sky village then you probably already know what i’m about to say but hear me out because i didn’t go into much detail back then when you’ve got a cliffside a floating island or some other situation where grass is Sitting on top of a vertical face like this then try adding in a dirt overhang what do i mean by a dirt overhang check this out as i mentioned in the sky village video i like to have a layer of dirt jutting out from the rock underneath the grass like so then if You’ve got the room for it a layer of coarse dirt between the regular dirt and the rock can also look really dope but not every cliff side has the space for that if you just want to do one layer of dirt that’s okay too this definitely is Not my original idea as a lot of great minecraft builders will do this in some form or another so that’s how you know it’s a tried and true technique it’s hard to describe exactly what you do to perfect this technique so you just gotta Give it a try yourself give it a shot in a creative mode world with the new 1.18 snapshot mountain terrain number three small ponds and little verdant bodies of water are some of my favorite things to build in minecraft they’re just so beautiful not the default vanilla ones though those are Garbage we’ve all seen these boring old ponds with just some random grass thrown about and a bit of water we can do a lot better than this let’s start by widening and deepening the pond if we really want to go nuts with the decor we’re going to Need a little bit more square footage next up let’s tackle the underwater bit little ponds like this are typically filled with rocks tangled weeds and vines and sediments in minecraft this translates to blocks like andesite gravel raw iron ore clay drip leaf sea pickles and sea grass with those in we Can start detailing the banks surrounding the pond i like to throw in some coarse dirt as well as the leaves of your choice i just gently dot them around the pond not to highly concentrated in one particular area because you don’t want to overwhelm the existing grass you just want to accent It with some other textures that still fit the vibe pretty well number four a lot of the time you want to improve upon a default regular vanilla minecraft biome and yeah i’ve got an entire series on this which you probably already know about link to the playlist is in the description but this Tip is going to be a bit more abstract than that for this i want to show you guys an example of bringing real life inspiration into your terraforming oftentimes you don’t have much to work with when you’re just looking at a single minecraft biome a perfect example Of this is the swamp this biome is in dire need of an update and in my building better biomes short on the swamp biome i made some custom mangrove trees to make the more watery sections very overgrown and tangled and i really like this design not only does it look Cool but it shows off just how much more complex and intricate you can make the default minecraft biomes so keep that in mind when you’re terraforming just because a biome is generated in a way that’s really bland and boring doesn’t mean you need to keep it that way [Applause] number five see this all these patches of dirt grass and random blocks mixed in with the dull stony ground this is not that great we can make this better you’ll come across this situation a lot where you have multiple different colors and textures on the ground and just Throwing them all together doesn’t look very good here’s how i would fix it in my opinion the best thing to do is to reduce the number of clashing colors you have in one space and then use depth and color gradients to blend the remaining ones in for example this mountain that We’ve been looking at i can see stone dirt oars gravel andethite granite and diorite that’s a lot let’s remove them okay we’re left with granite gravel and dirt that’s a much more manageable number of blocks and now we gotta blend them check out how i now have these in Between blocks that help ease the transition between the stone and the other ones it’s a lot like what we did earlier with the grass and the sand but in this situation there’s even more we can do if blending the colors is difficult or not enough for you then try Adding in some depth you could raise or lower your accent blocks by one to create ridges and holes in the ground this definitely helps the different textures you know play nice with each other number six okay so up until this point we’ve just been talking about terraforming on the surface but there’s A lot more to shaping your landscape than just dealing with what’s above ground we’ve got all these cool underground structures that you can mess around with too caves are getting a pretty big update soon but for the time being they’re still really lame so i often find myself tweaking the way Caverns look in my opinion one of the most important things to do is to use slabs walls and stairs to improve the shape of the caverns the slabs and stairs are really good at making cave walls look more rounded and complex you can take a rough patch like this one Right here with a bunch of full blocks sticking out and really smooth it over the wall blocks are really good for adding little indentations and bits that poke in into the sides of rocky walls then once you’ve got that think about the other textures you can add in the Vanilla game already has things like tough granite and diorite that generate in little blobs underground but these are boring try only using one or two accent colors in each cave system and arrange them into little veins instead of blobs you can even throw in real oars with these veins raw copper ore blocks Blend in very nicely with granite andesite on the other hand is a bit of a special case since it’s really similar looking to stone you can actually mix it in with your walls much more frequently than the other blocks and it’ll still look pretty good it’s a great way to Break up those monotonous greystone walls all right real quick i know i said that these were all going to be common situations but there are still some tips that i want to include as well so this last one is just a regular old tip just like you’d find in any other 7 quick Tips video and in my opinion it’s one of the most important for minecraft terraforming number seven don’t overuse bone meal spamming bone meal on grass and moss blocks is definitely one of the easiest ways to make an area look busy and detailed and that’s great but it Shouldn’t be your only tool while having a giant messy patch of grass or moths might look nice at first glance you’re not going to fool any experienced minecraft builder while yes it makes for a better field or a forest than just plain blocks anyone who’s tried to Terraform before will know that it takes virtually no time to just right click a bunch of bonemeal into the dirt so while it’s nice to use sparingly don’t overdo it make sure that your terraforming is primarily done by hand and that you genuinely put in enough work to make it Look good you’ll be more proud of it and those who see it will be much more impressed i’m admittedly guilty of this at times too in the past i was a heavy bone meal user but you know i found a new path in life when i use bone meal Nowadays i make sure to remove a lot of the blocks that it creates this thins out the generated detail blocks and makes it look just a bit more genuine all righty fellas i hope all you wonderful pogchamps out there enjoyed this seven quick tips video if
