Mojang Pulls Classic Texture Pack From Bedrock Marketplace

Players report broken visuals on new content after the legacy pack vanished rather than getting updated. A trivial community fix exists but console users remain screwed.

Mojang has removed the Classic Texture Pack from the Bedrock Marketplace. What was once a simple legacy option for players who prefer the original look is now gone from the official store. The move has sparked immediate frustration among Bedrock users who relied on it.

According to the original Reddit thread that blew up on June 17, the pack now causes visible bugs with newer blocks and mobs. Players are seeing completely invisible sections and creepers that stay in their powered-up state permanently. The post calls out Mojang directly for what it labels laziness.

One-line fix the community already did

Multiple commenters explained that updating a single value in the pack’s manifest.json file from the old format version to 3 makes it compatible again. Someone has already released a patched version. The problem is that applying custom packs remains restricted or impossible on consoles and certain devices leaving a chunk of the player base with no good options.

Mojang had years to maintain this pack. Instead of spending the minimal effort to update one JSON line and reupload it they simply deleted the listing. That is not great stewardship of a product millions still enjoy in its original form.

Reactions split along predictable lines. Bedrock players feel abandoned yet again especially those on locked-down hardware. Others argue the pack is ancient by Minecraft standards and that resources should go toward newer features. The volume of engagement however makes clear this stings a sizable group.

This is not the first time legacy Bedrock support has drawn fire. Removing access without clear communication or a proper replacement feeds the narrative that Microsoft views the Marketplace primarily as a sales engine rather than a service to existing owners. Whether this specific removal sticks or gets reversed will likely depend on how loud the noise gets in the next few days.

  • Classic Texture Pack no longer listed in Bedrock Marketplace
  • Causes invisible geometry and permanent charged creeper visuals
  • Community fix requires editing manifest.json format_version to 3
  • Console players effectively locked out of easy solutions
  • Thread hit 3800 upvotes in under two days

Its a one line fix. Mojang could have done it in 30 seconds but chose removal instead.
