Mojang released the latest Java snapshot yesterday with a cozy new main menu panorama, cleaned up explorer map names, Realms tweaks, and 59 bug fixes as the next drop nears.
If you fired up Minecraft Java Edition in the last day you probably noticed it already. The main menu background swapped to the upcoming Dappled Forest complete with falling leaves and an abandoned camp. It is a small change but an effective one that sells the fall vibes Mojang has been teasing for the next quarterly drop.
Realms Gets a Proper Onboarding Screen
Realm owners and newcomers both benefit from a new introduction screen that highlights key features. It pops up automatically when a trial is available and lives behind the Add Realm button. Small quality of life but the kind of thing that reduces support tickets.
The snapshot also renames five explorer maps to cut the confusion. Ocean Explorer Map is now Ocean Monument Map. Woodland Explorer Map becomes Woodland Mansion Map. Swamp, Jungle, and Trial Chambers maps received similar straightforward updates. Mojang is clearly trying to make the cartography system less opaque.
Mechanical Tweaks and Reversions
- Chorus fruit teleport now shows directional particles
- Drowned behavior and trident animations reverted to earlier versions
- Enchantments now properly protect undead mobs from sunlight damage
- Performance improvements when locating structures
The drowned changes are particularly welcome after recent snapshots altered their combat style in ways many players disliked. Reverting them suggests community feedback reached the team. The full list of fixed issues is lengthy and includes everything from shulker particles to subtitle timing.
