As the Telltale adventure vanishes from digital stores at the end of August, Mojang confirms it has zero intention of rehosting, updating, or preserving the game for new players.
Minecraft Story Mode is heading for the void. The episodic adventure game developed by Telltale Games will be delisted from all major digital storefronts at the end of this month, and Mojang has made it clear they will not step in to save it.
In a statement provided to USgamer, Mojang said flatly that “The Minecraft team currently has no plans to take over Minecraft: Story Mode from Telltale.” That means once the game disappears from Steam, PlayStation Store, and everywhere else, new buyers will have no legal way to get it.
Telltale's collapse and the fallout
Telltale shut down in 2018 after years of mismanagement, crunch, and layoffs. The studio’s closure left a string of licensed games in limbo, including this one. Mojang initially encouraged players to buy it while they still could, but that window is now slamming shut.

The game never received the kind of ongoing support Minecraft proper enjoys. No ports to newer consoles with updated features, no re-release on modern platforms, no attempt to bundle it with the main game. It existed as a one-off licensed product and now it is being treated as disposable.
This fits a larger pattern. Games vanish when business incentives dry up, even when attached to one of the biggest brands in gaming. The “Stop Killing Games” campaign has highlighted exactly this problem, and Minecraft Story Mode is the latest casualty.
