All The Mods 8 Ep. 31 Hex Casting Computer Science Magic

I love you Now today is going to be big I asked you guys a couple of video ago videos ago um what should I cover in this mod pack what do you want to see uh from this mod pack and a lot of you guys of course had many many responses uh but the majority

I did see uh at least for now wanted to see hex casting now not to be confused with hex Sarai which is its own thing this is hex casting and uh well let’s go ahead and dive into a little bit of the madness that is hex casting now one

Might come to believe that hex casting is definitely in the magic mindset but you’re gonna have to come at this with a programming mindset because it is more like a programming mod than it is a magic monitor at least it feels like that in my opinion so reading the book

It is definitely very mystical and it talks about this media and how we have some media in us and that’s what we can use to do some things uh but first we need to find a source of of this stuff and uh it talks about that here then it talks about geodes right

Um so amethyst is what we need to set out and find uh thankfully there’s tons of geodes and in this Modpack there’s an easy way to find geodes so you’re not just wandering around um so if we take a look at ours I know we’re kind of diving into different mods

But ours is going to allow us to easily find geodes and we’ve actually crafted this item before to use for something else but it’s called a dowsing rod and the dowsing Rod uh should allow us to get ourself um scrying uh which is going to allow us

To see uh hopefully find amethyst geodes um so we’re gonna have to go down in our minds to potentially find this stuff so there we go with this activated I was just running down and look at this see those green dots that’s exactly what I’m looking for

Um so I am going to set this to 3×3 and let’s create ourselves a little bit of a way up there oh this thing was a lot further away than I thought it was going to be I decided to just go up and just mine to it okay so right here

We should be very very close I mean it should be yeah right here okay so I need to switch this back into single block because I don’t want to break into this if I can avoid it there we go now we are inside interesting it’s

Not a full one but the stuff we’re after are these crystals um gotta be very careful when breaking these and let’s go ahead and turn her back on there we go and so now we can pick up these shards so when breaking these crystals I don’t know if I need to use a

Special pick or not I might need to use a fortune pick so for example this when breaking this yes there we go and not silk touching we can get ourselves charged amethyst and also amethyst dust along with her amethyst shards and this is perfect because this is exactly what we’re gonna need

To dive into this mod just just don’t break the budding amethyst you’ll regret it that’s why having a pick that’s not the strongest is probably a better idea so now that we have the goods let’s go ahead and craft ourselves one of the things needed to

Get started here a regular Oak staff and you’re gonna need a Charged amethyst to do this now I’m gonna put the rest of the stuff in my bag except for this amethyst dust here um and this is where things get a tad bit confusing if you’re not familiar

With computer science so you may be thinking yes this is a magic mod it’s gonna feel like a magic mod it’s gonna do magic-ish things but all in relation to computer science and stacks um so let’s talk about Stacks um so this book references plates right you stack

Plates on top of each other and if you want to interact with the plate that’s in the middle you’re going to have to remove the plates from the top to get to that middle plate and that is how this is this mod is going to work as well

You’re going to build things up uh in stacks and then you’re gonna affect the thing that is on top potentially right and so it talks heavily about this in the hexing 101 um so there’s going to be a few things we’re gonna have patterns that will execute actions we’ll manipulate the

Stack which is a list of and then iotas I that’s what I’m going to call it which are simply units of information all of this is going to be talked about in this book so if you want to go in depth and you’re playing this pack I recommend

Reading this to get a better grasp I’m going to try my best to explain it but even then it may still come off confusing now I do want to read off a few simple Pages here which I think are going to be uh instrumental to this mod

This is a hex is a cast by drawing valid actions in a sequence each action might do one of a few things gather some information about the environment leaving it on top of the stack so there’s we’re talking about Stacks right and then manipulate the info gathered or perform some magical effect like

Summoning lightning or an explosion these actions are called spells um so this is all very very important and it talks about for example some different things like mind’s reflection once we create in Iota representing me the caster and add it to the top of the stack so that’s basically like running a

Minecraft command and specifying the at P which would be like uh the person who’s running the command right or you can just say uh like at e would be and then you specify the entity so I’m assuming that’s what mine reflection is supposed to be representing and then we

Have the compass purification which will take the Iota at the top of the stack and represent an empty and transform it into an Iota representing that entity’s location um so yes a little bit more confusing there so basically what it’s going to do that Compass of purification it’s going

To go to the back to the top of the stack which we had just generated on top we we basically spec specified ourself and that’s at the top of the stack and then the compass purification is taking the information that’s at the top of the stack which was us and it’s getting our

Location and now that’s at the top of the stack right and so the next thing in line needs to interact with that that is on top which would be our location and it needs to do something and so on and so forth with that information now there

Are other things that we can use to influence like which is numbers and it says in some Legends called Doubles we have vectors which is going to tell us the uh the direction we’re facing the position of our movement and so on and so forth like uh how we’re turned and

Things like that uh booleans which is very if you’ve not seen that that is just saying true or false and it will have an outcome based on that it’ll it’ll either say is this true or is this false um also called Bulls apparently in this case entities which is like ourself

Minecarts things like that uh entities there are chickens or it specifies chickens like mobs anything like that arrows or entities um influences uh which are particular types of iotas uh that’s gonna be a little bit harder to understand but that that’s a thing like abstract ideas patterns themselves used for crafting

Magic items like uh truly mind boggling Feats like spells that cast other spells yes that’s gonna be a little probably a little bit more complicated and then of course a list of uh a list of several of the above gathered into a single Iota now when we do

Create a hex like when we do a hex spell I say spell because it yeah that that sort of thing it does come at a cost right it is going to cost us this amethyst dust or or it can actually use amethyst shards and one amethyst Shard

Is the equivalent of five amethyst dust and then a Charged amethyst is the equivalent of tin amethyst dust so keep in mind that this uh is the only things that it can use it does mention that you cannot use a block of amethyst uh because it is just too compact for it

To uh recognize um but keep in mind if you have something like a Charged amethyst right and you don’t want to use it you might want to have it out of your inventory and maybe just use amethyst shards uh simply because the it will consume them regardless so if you

Have uh an amethyst that let’s say you create a hex that only needs one dust right and you have a charge that is enough for tin it is going to consume that charged even though it didn’t use it all yeah also uh there is a chance of

Failure right there is a chance of failure on these hexes and uh if you don’t have anything in your inventory well it’s going to pull from you and I don’t know what that’s gonna do but I am I’m definitely looking forward to trying it out but apparently it causes some

Really bad things right it uh like Wizards yeah it has a whole thing explaining how Wizards go mad because of the magic drawn from themself it’s uh it’s pretty awful actually now I know I’m just quoting most of this stuff from the book uh but it’s best to sort of

Relay information in that way it does say that uh you cannot you cannot cast spells that are 32 or hexes 32 blocks away from yourself unless you have like a player into these location uh in a different area you could potentially use that I don’t know to teleport to

Yourself or so on uh it does mention that but just interacting with things around you 32 blocks is your range now here’s probably one of the most important parts of this mod and that is understanding the patterns that we are going to be drawing um now taking our wand uh we can go

Ahead and right click this and you can see there’s kind of this dot grid that is going on here and we can do things like connect to this dot grid and out now you can see right here it is selected me so it talked about this particular spell or

This particular uh what is it called stack um earlier and so we can actually leave this and then when I right click again it’s there and if I want to clear it I can shift right click right to have cleared that pretty darn cool while that’s active but we need to learn about

These patterns right so this is mine reflection this adds me the Caster to the stack um and then also we have this one transforms The Entity on the stack into the position of its eyes uh that one’s pretty interesting so that takes a position of where our eyes are at

Um let’s see transport any entity on the stack into the position it is standing that would do from our feet and transform entity on the stack into the direction it is looking interesting and this combines two vectors a position in a direction into an answer to the question in if I stood

At the position and I looked into the direction what block would I be looking at um and it says cast a uh oh costs a negligible amount of media so meaning it just it’s not going to cost a lot um and that is going to take our position and Direction

Um interesting so now this is where the positioning and stuff and this is where things get a little bit more complicated right because if you want to find out the particular block you’re looking at it thank goodness it explains it in the book um so you’re gonna have to do a few

Things you have to do the mind’s reflection Compass purification right and then that that is going to create two things and then you have mine’s reflection and then the uh I’ll alidays purification um and then of course the The Archers uh distillation right here and together that will return the position of the

Block that I am currently looking at which is kind of important to do like this is probably going to be a pretty common thing if we want to get the uh the position of the block we are currently looking at which is probably going to be necessary for such things

Like being able to break a block right you know what let’s try this out let’s create a break spell that is going to break the block that I am currently looking at right so let’s go ahead and open this menu up right or actually first let’s uh make sure we read and

Understand these basic patterns right um so I need to do a Minds reflection and then Compass purification okay so if I go to patterns mine’s reflection Encompass purification so this starts from the uh right and makes a triangle right and then this starts and makes a or sorry this makes a diamond

Right a trapezoid and then this makes a triangle uh and it looks like it starts from the right uh which I I think is important um so we can we can actually make these up here right so we just connect this and I’ll put this in order right

So start here now so now that got the block position and we can actually go back into the book and continue we need to do a Minds reflection so another mind’s reflection right and then a purification this one right here which is the line okay so let’s pop this back open so we

Do another one like this and then I believe the mind’s reflection was aligned okay this is interesting like that so now we have the two positions and then we go back in here um and then we need to do this which looks like it is a hammer sort of

Pattern very interesting looking pattern um let’s see we should be able to do it right here okay and that has our current block position that we are looking at and then we need to modify this in some way and uh let’s take a look at our actual

Spells we can use right here this is a spell and then we have block works and this right here is a break block this is a place block um this is going to cost a amethyst dust to do this um it says removes a location from the

Stack then breaks the block at the given location the spell can break uh nearly anything a diamond pick can break um it costs a bit more um than one amethyst okay so a little bit more than one end of this dust but it looks like this sort of goes in this like

Block 3D block shape sort of thing um and I believe it starts right here And there we go we completed a spell and notice it reset everything right but it broke the Block in front of us and it used some amethyst um interesting very very interesting but there’s got to be a better way right there’s got to be a way to take these

Spells and make it so we don’t have to hand do it every single time right and there is a way now this isn’t exactly making it so that way I can have a spell that shoots and and so on so for the bricks block but this right here is a focus

Um pretty easy to craft as long as you have charged amethyst and what we can do is actually write the phrases that we use to get a location for example onto this and recall it a little bit easier next time we go to user staff now there

Are ways of course to uh put a full spell on something but as of right now I do want to show what the focus is used for um so at the moment this is the focus so the scribes Gambit is going to be used

To copy or sorry save we can we can copy and save but the copy looks sort of like a g that we start in the middle and go down whereas the uh or the sorry the paste is on on going from the bottom and then the copy which we’ll use later on

Is going from the top uh let me kind of explain this so if we’ve created our spell right and I’ve kind of got this sort of memorized right where we’ve done the same thing right here and we take these locations and then we apply

I believe it was this one and then we do the hammer again right I think this is the way oh sorry hammer it goes like this right um and then I want to copy it onto this um so I think it has to be in my off

Hand I’m not quite sure but we got to do the G that goes from the bottom And that has now applied that contents to this right um now the thing we should be able to do is now recall that information by going up to the top uh it says it needs a place to read that is from the other hand oh so I got to

Put this in my other hand um so yeah let’s try that again so it found that information now here’s the thing is it the block that I’m currently looking at or was it the block that was over here that is the thing I don’t know so let’s figure it out if it

Actually breaks this foreign so it didn’t break the block I was looking at so we need to figure out a way to make this spell recognize the block that I’m currently looking at not the state from which it was in when I originally copied it because that’s

That’s not super useful now I went ahead and crafted an item that should be able to hold a spell and that’s called an artifact now I know I’m bypassing some of the other mechanics of this but I did have all the materials for this which was kind of nice

Um so let me kind of figure out how this wants me to do it so it says right here entity and then list of patterns um and then like this right here I don’t know if this necessarily forms the entity in the list of patterns or what

Have you I’m gonna try and like do this first also it’s going to take tin it’s gonna need a lot more amethyst shards than this to complete that thank goodness I had some Amethyst in my storage okay um so yeah remembering this pattern is kind of difficult but I’m gonna try my

Best let’s first try and actually do this pattern um so it’s a line drawn to the center point and then it’s sort of spins like this then back and then I guess we do this Right back around um and then we have these outer bits upper arrows outer bits I think I’m I think I’m getting this like that it does show it ending over here though um which is interesting so expected two or more arguments but the stack was empty okay so it was looking for two different things now here’s where I’m kind of confused because if I enact

What it’s wanting right it’s wanting the list of spells how do I prevent it from acting on the Spells I wonder see this is just as confusing to me as it would be for you so I have these and then I have right the hammer and then if I actually draw out

The spell itself it is going to break the block how do I prevent it from breaking the block so now after doing some research I really hope I can get this but uh it may take me a couple tries to do this um there’s a couple of different methods

For which we can get this in here um and we are going to basically be doing the same sort of thing that we have done um we are going to be casting but this time we’re gonna save this actually to our Focus we’re gonna rewrite to our Focus here and uh I’m

Gonna be doing a parentheses to contain our spells that we’re about to do so there’s the location right um of what we’re looking at and then we’re gonna do another one and then set it at our beaten eyes and then we’re gonna combine the location like this

And then we’re gonna execute the block break this should be done the same way we’ve done everything else And then we’re going to read parentheses this and as you can see that is now stored and this is the information that we have stored um and then after this what I’m going to do um is I am going to store this now to our Focus so we can recall this later

And to do that it was the G right that goes down to the bottom so that stored that information to here which is kind of interesting um now uh I did realize why my artifact oh I couldn’t save to my artifact uh it’s because I need fuel I need to tell this

Specifically where the fuel or what type of fuel I’m going to be using and now to do this it’s a little bit more complicated right we need to toss this on the ground first turning off my magnet um we need to toss the stuff on the ground

And we need to kind of look at it while we do this operation right um and it’s it’s a pretty common thing it’s basically the same thing we just did where our eyes are looking which is this same sort of pattern right and then we do this right so that

Has now uh saved what we are looking at uh but we need to do something else we need to take this I believe it’s up and then down and then we need to copy what we’re looking at as an entity I believe oh and I have broken that so we can remove this

From the stack so you’re let’s remove this from the stack there we go that that has been changed um do I do it this way foreign there we go um so that hex needs more media so yeah amethyst chart as you can see right here we have selected the item now which is

Amethyst Shard um now the fun part of combining this that we have in our offhand and putting it into the artifact so now the reason why I’m doing all of this is because I was looking at the artifact here right and it tells me exactly what I need whenever

I go to actually craft this right so I’m going to take a look and this is the artifact crafting that I was trying to do it needs entity and then list of patterns so the entity is is why this I said this mod is kind of complicated

Entity is referring to the fuel doesn’t necessarily say that here but it does say costs about 10 amethyst but entity is the fuel which is the thing that we just called so at the moment uh on our stack uh it should not say null um it should say amethyst

So maybe I have to oh it’s because the amethyst is gone now so if I put the amethyst back I guess we have to do this while the amethyst is on the ground let’s clear this out again and we have to keep this well I guess

While the amethyst is on the ground okay so let’s do the same thing that we’ve done before and then that right and then we need to find the amethyst right and now we need to recall the information from our uh our scroll here our spell container I’ve

Already forgotten the name of it by going above and so now we have all the information we need to um basically connect everything to the artifact right um so we have to do the pattern for the artifact which is uh interesting to say the least and I’ve already done it but

It’s this across and then like this around around out one more and then go all the way around and then we go out make some rabbit or make some cat ears foreign And needs artifact in the other hand but got one okay so let’s remove this from the stack I’m kind of running out of places to put this actually let’s clear the whole thing let’s restart um okay so let’s copy this I guess the more we do it the better we’ll get at this

let’s pick up the amethyst so that way it doesn’t despawn on me okay so amethyst clear this all of this in the name of this mod all right so we have that pattern which is finding the location of this item and then we need to see what the item is

Down there we go we have amethyst um and now let’s recall the information that is in our offhand uh scribe’s reflection needs to read uh oh did I not where oh it’s right here okay darn let’s do it all over again make sure we’re looking at this okay we’ll do

It again there we go I’m getting really fast at this pattern at this point and then this Uh down it copied and then we need to copy and paste this in okay and then now I’m gonna put this in my off hand and then we are going to make that shape perfect oh boy when things get all wonky yay there we go that ears oh I cannot

I can’t do it here so I’ve got to undo everything gotta go one lower apparently and I this is gonna cost amethyst so I’m hoping that it uses the amethyst that’s on the ground to do this and then we go there cat ears this cat ears and okay

That hex needed more media than I had I should double check my math we just did all that and we don’t have enough shards um okay interesting it said it needed like tin so it needed oh so we do need oh so we need we need

More than us well these are five each we should have enough unless it needed to be in my inventory in order for it to function so that’s one two three four five that’s nine so let’s keep all of this in our inventory we gotta redo all of our spells again I

Almost have this done and it worked this time okay it completely worked and it used some dust now when this dust gets removed when we run out of dust using this particular spell which should be a brake spell oh my gosh that’s super annoying and loud but it does work

Um as soon as we run out of this it’s gonna start consuming from us and that’s where I’m actually interested in seeing what it does to us now of course there’s one other cool thing I wanted to show you if you definitely want to get access to some of

The wood which is a very purple wood that is in this mod you can get yourself a Elder wood sapling I think an elder visit right here in an eldify sapling um so yeah and edified edified tree yeah identify tree so to do this it’s a very simple spell

Basically use utilizing some of the same mechanics that we just did um so we are going to be selecting this as a tree um and we need a vector so to get the vector it’s the same thing that we’ve done before we basically take the position that we’re looking or the more

Feet in from our eyes and then we focus that into a single point and then we combine that get the uh the vector and then we need to do this I believe I think this is going to be a simple cheaty way around this honestly but

It’s to do this right so in its place a block right and all we have to do is recall the information here so do the same sort of thing right break the block and in its place put a sapling and now when we pull this back up then we should be able to

Pull this off there we go and this is the uh the edified tree and I’m assuming if we just break it down that uh it should drop some saplings Maybe yeah it’s a very cool looking purple log I know all of this for some saplings it doesn’t look like you get any saplings

So you would have to I guess do that spell every time you wanted a sapling now of course a little bonus here there is one last thing I wanted to test out what happens when it pulls from our mind yeah so there’s only two left there’s

Nothing for it to pull from except for our mind it’s going to do it after this and it says that hex needed more media than I had I should double check my math and I cannot force it apparently to pull directly from my mind even though I think it’s supposed to

It’s supposed to pull from my mind apparently now it’s also supposed to pull from what you have in your inventory as well oh man I thought I was gonna do something cool well guys I hope you enjoyed today’s video and I hope you learned something new of course click
