so that pirates is basically caught up by Christmas or maybe by the New Year something like like that but the the jumps in the amount of vods that are covered per video is Getting way bigger like way way bigger it may even get to a point where I only put in like events you know what I mean which would then help me jump significantly so I can jump forward like six seven vods at a time or something Like that there were 37 vods for at Holy Holy Moly I’ll tell you what I’ve not done I’ve not uploaded the video saying that was streaming Pirates I feel like I should I love the end of this song BU but honestly they’re sweats so I think they were coming in probably with a far more critical eye than we were um yeah I think they um I think they very much have a different take and a Different think everybody would have to be very brushed up on the topic I think that would be where it would probably fall short for a lot of People is I think there’d be some real like history Buffs I say except for on this s SMP and the only reason I play on Quake Pro is because When I’m sailing my ship I have a mod that gives me uh slightly wider well not even it doesn’t even change the fov it physically moves the third person camera way back um so it does this look but if you’re not on qu Pro then it doesn’t Actually make that much of a difference so if I play on my usual 90 like that is coing over the shoulder but when I get in my boat you’ll see just how little it actually contributes to um to being out of the way right where’s my ship gone there it Is so look so when I get in my ship here look so with fov 90 doesn’t really do much difference compared to the third person that we were getting here so when you crank it up to Quake Pro then I do the far away mod you start to get a Little bit more distance and especially when you start to move as well makes things a lot more a lot more zoomed out which is nice right then so we found the god tree uh I guess we just keep going around it and go diagonal I think I’ve got to try and Veer out a bit more I’m getting too close to all these lily Pads radio this Sunday you know what I’m not 100% sure just yet I don’t have anything major planned uh this week I’m going to potentially say no only because I’m going away to um I’m going away to Bristol hopefully on Monday so on Sunday I think I’d almost Rather not stream because obviously streams are very much I kind of come on and do them and that’s that so I’m hoping that I’m going to Have some more free time to kind of get the the ball rolling on it again I’m Japanese major so I use you and make sure you’re still up to it oh dude so yeah so I did it really solidly through the latter end of lockdown um And a little bit afterwards but then I think I took off about a year um so I think I did it for about like 10 11 months and then I had about a year and a bit off of it and then just recently uh we learned that one of Amelia’s Nursery Teachers uh is from Japan which is really cool um she’s from Chima which is just outside of Tokyo to the east um and yeah basically she showed us about a show called aan man which is quite funny um have you not seen aan give it a give it a look it’s it’s such A silly absurd show I do need this gunpowder stuff um but she also gave us like these really cool little tiles that you can you can play with which is fun I understand Ki through Chinese and that alone yeah cuz that’s the thing right there’s a lot of shared language Between Japanese and Chinese cuz isn’t it a case of um it was people that moved away from China to the land that was then Japan they took the language with them and then they kind of kept some parts of it transformed some others I think they changed a lot of Pronunciations of things but they um kept like the symbols you know what I mean like they kept the Ki characters but they have like sun yomi and onomi things is that a church that’s a bloody church I think oh my God wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait this this is very exciting okay right hello the team has Been making steady progress since our update in the summer we’ve been working hard at merging our Creative Design and te technical efforts into a single team Endeavor focused on delivering hiel before we share more let’s recap the last three years of hil’s development before that I am just going to quote Retweet this and um and do it oh God wait wait wait the Christmas summoning circles always Work lovely all right cool um in the first half of 2021 we identified that we needed to redevelop high Tail’s Tech fundamentals in order to deliver a game that meets the expectations of players and creators after a period of Investigation we committed to building a new custom engine oh my God and brought on a development partner to help us do so as this was uh as this effort was underway we continued to make progress in other areas um we began actively prototyping and play testing new takes on an adventure sorry on adventure content player movement creative tools creature Ai and combat we Also expanded our character personalization approach doubling down on our players identities as creative world shaping beings called avatars yeah they used a lot of language regarding avatars last time I’m still of the mindset that I think this thing is going to come out and I think is going to feel Like the halfway home between Minecraft and Roblox it’s going to kind of have the development tools of Roblox it’s going to have the blocky style of Minecraft but I think it’s going to have the Polish of something like UE FN and like fortnite engine and stuff but bit You know far beyond that I think it’s going to be a really standout platform so even if people aren’t super stoked about like the adventure mode and stuff like that um I think it’s going to be I think it’s going to be pretty cool I like it oh say Rosen Jan uh as 2021 Drew to a close we showed off some of the progress as part of Riot’s under City night events um cuz if you don’t know basically Riot games acquired um hiil as it kind of brought them under the umbrella which given that they have league and valerant and t uh TFT and stuff like that they don’t mess around um yeah I don’t think hiel is dead it just got announced uh too early in its lifespan well the thing is is the version of hiel that we saw when the announcement trailer came out that would have come out by now but it they Obviously had the stuff with Riot going on and the game expanded and got bigger than they expected and it completely changed the timeline entirely it basically became a whole new game um which maybe should have bumbled under the surface but yeah H I see overhype well no not really overhype it’s they Had a lot of pipe which meant they generated a lot of interest and then they got business partners come in who decided they wanted to throw money at it and obviously what they’re trying to do is they’re trying to make this I think what they’re trying to do is they’re Trying to Future proof it right from all the wording they’ve used it seems as though they’re trying to make it so it is like it’s got an adventure mode which is kind of You’ll Play it once and maybe never again is my guess um although having said that you play Minecraft over And over again don’t you campaign wise um but it it did seem as though theirs was more narratively driven which I was quite excited for um and then they’re going to have obviously the multiplayer version which will be like you know miname servers and stuff like that cuz Obviously they stem from uh from Hypixel um but then I think they’re really going in on the development tools and like a Marketplace of sorts and stuff um so yeah it’s good I get minor Cube World Vibes uh maybe in terms of timeline but I think in terms of final delivered product I Don’t think it’s going to be as underwhelming as cube world was like cube world was always very feature uh deprived wasn’t it it pretty much looked like the little teaser images W would put out but you didn’t really get much beyond that and it was very sequential Like as in you know go further out monsters change color numbers get bigger and that was kind of the game Loop and it wasn’t all that great um but yeah anyway right let’s rock cor um taking advantage of the extra pre-production times afforded uh by the engine change We also began a far-reaching creative reexploration of the world of orbis the setting of High’s Adventure experience we’ll dig deeper into one aspect of that uh reexploration later in this post sick love this image by the way it’s nice um these efforts creative and Technical continued into 2022 in our summer update That year um we talked more about the reasoning behind the engine change see some new biomes and landscapes for orbits and reintroduced our vision for hiel as a whole meanwhile as Redevelopment continued we uh we dive deep into every aspect of orbit as we began to prototype new Advanced building Tools more sophisticated V effects which I’ve seen those on socials by the way they look awesome um and a Very Fresh Approach To High Tales UI I don’t know if we’ve seen the updated UI really um this year we brought the engine development fully inhouse and steadily Expanded our team in a very exciting Milestone we hosted our first external play test whoa that’s huge damn okay a sign of things to come as noxy and I discussed earlier in the year 2023 has been about Staffing our team so that we’re ready for 2024 integrating our gameplay Systems and workflows with the new engine moving our creative and prototyping efforts forward in preparation for the next wave of play tests new engine progress okay so this year the team has been ramping up um to take full advantage of all of our shiny new uh engines capabilities while Beginning to integrate the latest breakthroughs from our world generation and encounter design teams um the needs of creators are always on our mind so we’ve also been working to get tools and content creation workflows online in the new engine oh interesting our rendering team is hard at work replicating the Look and feel of hightail in the new engine um and we’re looking forward to sharing a side by side with our old engine when we’re ready cool um at the moment however our primary focus has being on performance and functionality not Beauty we’ll share some of these Ugly duckling moments when we’re out of this awkward self-conscious phase Fair uh we’re also looking forward to sharing content from the new engine once it properly reflects our vision of hightail meanwhile the team continues to use the Legacy engine to prototype experiences and improve our development processes Over the coming months more and more of our team will move over to working on the new engine bringing that expertise with them so we we could still be two three years off at this point like to move to a new engine that doesn’t just happen in say like 30 days and then Everybody’s moved over like that is a gradual process yes uh Adventure advancements our adventure team has two missions first they create the tools and content necessary for players to tell their own stories in a blocky world then they use the same tools to build the world of Oris uh the setting for High’s Official Adventure experience the more they talk about it like this the more I wonder if the world will be a set map you know what I mean or whether it will be biome specific with pre-designated uh prefabs placed inside of it I really can’t tell at this point Whether they’re going to go for set designed world like a standalone single player video game or whether they will allow it to be a bit more minecrafty and have those narrative beats but you know it will look different each time you do it I just it’s getting very blurred as time goes on Um so yeah and orbis provides the Baseline uh from which many such worlds can be made this naturally is our primary focus however Oris is also where we get to tell Tales of our own through Adventure experiences that we refer to as the story of orus we spent a lot of Time revisiting oris’s history creatures and characters over the last year taking a critical look at every element to ensure it matches our goals for the game much of this effort has been focused on orit’s factions Okay so we’ve got the quebeck and the tro and the quebeck are The tree folk the tros are like orc type ones ferin are almost like weasly sort of ferret looking fellas uh and the scars are basically like dung beetles like you know like desert beetles um we’ve been making real progress here expanding their roles and capabilities deepening the backstory by W of an example let’s look at the character design that has unone significant uh change to the Quebec Tree Singer I mean at a glance I don’t recognize the difference too much oh wait a dude there though what the hell wait do we see whoa look at that guy sorry I’ve Jumped ahead way too far dude is cute he’s bloody massive but he’s cute wait okay let’s go back sorry I’ve spoiled it a little bit um you can see the old tree singer design oh okay that’s why it looked the same to me at the old tree singer design In the image above tree singers play an important role in the Quebec they’re the tail tellers and respected leaders responsible for passing down wisdom of the ages to each new generation of seedlings so they basically speak to the spirits that reside in trees if I remember correctly uh the role cannot be Adopted without sacrifice in normal circumstances older Quebec eventually put down roots and become Tre that was the one yeah uh in this form they can Slumber for great spans of time as Village Life continues around them nice uh let me have a quick drink hold on tree singers however resist this Transformation uh in doing so they become intermediaries between young queeks and their sleeping Elders I feel like I’d want to stay alive forever I wouldn’t be wouldn’t want to be stuck on the spot BS to that um where is it uh bridge between the past and present uh while we’ve Always been fond of the bearded tree singer of old we wanted to open up this particular design to reinterpretation here are a few of our initial Explorations they’re pretty cool I love the overgrown feeling of them it’s really nice that one I’m not quite as in That feels almost a bit like that feels like a fortnite skin doesn’t it that feels like they’ve taken like a bit of Groot a bit of a quebe and then pop some broccoli on the top with some weird like Barky uh shim pads on as well and then We got this one after working through several iterations our artists and designers we started to favor a much larger more ponderous version of our wisen Quebec we resonated with this image of a tree singer who after resting in one spot for slightly too long has to exert significant willpower to pull its Roots from the ground and start moving again oh interesting that is really cool look at like the staff as well that it wields or he uses it as a bit like a walking stick is that a play that looks very like hilts and swordy look at the scale of it compared To a player that’s nuts it’s really quite tall it was uh then our animation 3D modeling and VFX team um reimagine the quebeck and brought them to life look how cute this thing is dude and you got the little seedlings that run around as well I’m loving the tree beard yeah Honestly I like the eyebrows the most I the eyebrows look really cool very cool very cute uh ooh nature is not always green I mean I guess it’s all Tumbl and everything isn’t it the great thing about the collaborative efforts like this one uh is the way it Brings new ideas and greater depth to our world building for example the process of redesigning tree singers led us to re-evaluate how queeks build their homes and craft their equipment and our artist suggested that they might use music to encourage plants to grow into helpful shapes um this was the seed of What we now refer to as Sunwood an ornate wooden material that can be us you can see in Quebec clothing and in their redesigned Villages oh we get see redesigned Villages damn look at that shot holy dude love it love it love it uh right this is one small example of a Larger creative effort uh we have a lot more to share in the future as every single faction has undergone a reevaluation much like this one this isn’t even the only new kind of queen back sick uh a capital for avatars in hiel the heart of online social play is A shared place called the capital this is where players from all parts of hiel come together to make friends share experiences compete in mini games discover new adventures seek challenges trade show off pets and Companions and more interesting it says about trading I’m really intrigued to know what that entails Like I don’t know like is there going to be is it a case of the capital will exist on the official multiplayer server like the official hi/ Hypixel multiplayer server and then there’ll be you know ongoing wealth and growth and stuff like that like is it going to feel A bit more like an MMO for that one specific server I wonder the capital is a testament to all things that avatars have built and achieved in the past and looks ahead to the exciting things they’ll do in the future most importantly though it’s intended to be a Celebration of what the high tail Community is up to development of the capital has been another important part of this year’s creative uh and design efforts while we’re not uh yet ready for the full and veiling I wanted to make sure we touched on the nature of the Work we’re doing here while we’ve talked a lot about orbis over the years we’ve not shared much about this key hiel environment needless to say we’ll have more to share in the future yeah it’s starting to really feel as though like the central city is going to be like Almost like an MMO Hub like almost like a a storm wind if you will very interesting uh what’s next okay so as 2023 winds down we’re looking forward to 2024 as mentioned earlier the first half of the year will be focused on getting the whole team on boarded into the new Engine see what I mean I told you it take about 6 months not not just like a 30-day jobby to move people over we’re also going to be significantly ramping up external play t uh testing efforts focusing on collecting feedback on adventure experiences Creator tools I wonder if they’ll reach out to Like content creators or something although I don’t I I just can’t imagine them trusting content creators to not leak and blab stuff you know what I mean and social and competitive play these user tests and process advancements are important steps in getting us ready to enter full production so what what is The what what does full production actually mean Define full production video games unless Creator tools is more like map makers you know almost like Bedrock Marketplace type people yeah like Workshop stuff yeah so full production is Technically when uh During the period of time when the project is fully staffed so they’re Basically there and then they hit the ground running with it okay um these user test and process advancements are important steps in getting us ready to enter full production uh thank you for hanging with us while we’ve gone through the Transformations necessary to get our studio and project to this point uh what I understand the desire for dates some road maps uh the work we’re currently doing is essential in order for us to make accurate projections in the future so we’re getting no no teasers today on dates oh oh was that the end of the article oh damn uh I’m happy to report That we’re closing off 2020 sorry it’s ending off the year um on track for our milestone in the new engine excited to move forward expect growth and frequency oh I like that you can expect our updates to Growing I know there’s loads of people that are excessively cynical about the game it’s like why you you’ve never paid money into it you know if it was like if you kickstarted the game and it still hadn’t Come out in this amount time then you’re allowed to be salty about it like for example I backed a game called heart for Alicia ages ago and I’m talking basically a decade ago in fact let me check where is it heart forth Alisia when did this game get successfully kickstarted Um last update was then does it say when it got like fully backed updates I scroll right to the bottom here there we go keep going back and back and back where is it where is it like this was a long time ago yeah look already it goes back as far as 2014 all right here we go then so funded there we go it was funded in 2014 we’re coming up on nearly 10 years since I put money into that game from the kickstarter like and even then I’m still not that bothered you know what I Mean so there you are so the tree people live in hollowed out trees well not necessarily no cuz remember it’s people can choose to like plant themselves down and that’s that but not every tree in existence is just a sleeping Quebec right or at least that’s not the that’s not the assumption That I drew from it cuz it says it promoted growth so there was that special kind of wood wasn’t there that they used as a crafting material uh is this a smart idea probably not oh nice I already thought there’d be more through here I thought one of these caves would have a Uh would have a crypt in it maybe there probably still is some just got to find it right let’s go things like that take a lot of time especially for small India developers I’d be intrigued to know the size of their Studio though right especially With like Riot behind them and I bet you so many developers have been pulled off of things like um valorant and things like that to move over to do stuff on um on uh hiel I’m excited to play play hiel in any form it comes in quite honestly like You know it’s not even being a fanboy or because like I’m friends with noxy and stuff like that it’s just I think the concept of the game is cool like I think they would do it justice because you know they’ve proved with Hypixel that the products they make stand the test of Time um I just think it’s going to be fun never put any money into it so I’m at no loss currently I can just be excited about the game that is one day to come that’s me also for somebody I was asking earlyer on if I’ve ever played it or the Early versions yes I have um I played a super duper duper early version um all the way back in God when was it uh what year was it insomnia Island when was it insomnia gaming Festival Island that was God when was it does anyone remember what year insomnia gaming Festival was in Ireland I swear it was like 2012 or 13 or something maybe a bit later than that it was quite some time before the trailer came out oh but back then the um the world kind of like existed a couple trees spawned in we were buy like a Long Lake and Stuff and um the only two characters in the game at that time were uh DanTDM and NTI which is quite funny a little bit of trivia I don’t even think NTI was even in it when we initially played it I think it’s they sent us a screenshot Um like a month or two later sort of showing off like Avatar Concepts and they they put NTI and uh DanTDM in which I thought was quite cool there’s some high tail history for you yeah noxy just like cracked it open on his laptop and um away we went it was Good also where did I leave my boat there it is I want to go explore that church get rid of the of that right then it’s taking us a long old time to explore this ocean but I guess it’s cuz we’ve done a massive detour to to read the bit before that I think we just had that one awful night where she was awake every two hours throw up and then I think that was the end of it that’s the one Leb kachen cookies yeah I think that’s what if you will cuz um chapter 2 basically happened after one of the events and obviously it went from being just the map with the Word on it just hit puberty thanks uh and it ended up having the tentacles on it or the tendrils whatever they are and I said to Owen like oh can you send me a version of that logo and he was like yeah yeah sure no worries no worries and Then he sent it through to me and the file was something like Pirates SMP Ursula’s revenge and then like you know 223 or something like that and I was like Ursula’s Revenge I was like isn’t Ursula the one from The Little Mermaid I was like are we getting like a Disney Little Mermaid got to get my voice back kind of storyline in Chapter 2 like what what is this and I thought I’d like properly stumbled on a spoiler in like a logo file name from Owen but it just turns out that’s the name of the artist who made the logo and Owen Was like oh my God I never even thought about that so Owen Owen had been conversing with this Ursula and never once thought how it related to his pirate SMP in any capacity I just thought that was really funny like I see if I can find their Twitter where is it Twitter ura’s Revenge is it that one There I don’t know what their actual Twitter handle is but yeah as soon as I saw it I was like oh my God that’s really funny but yeah Owen just never Clocked immediately noticed it and was wait hold on what is it uh but that if he buried his treasure in a Spire he could retrieve it from the sky in the afterlife he buried it in the base of the tallest Spire at Sea and what was the initial instructions Um North from the herend Dos small island with palm trees from their head directly east off of it to a larger Island not too far away populated with jungle trees that that would be this one the treasure will be Clos by right let’s find the tallest spy then pretty sure The spyes are over to the west side of this island Uh nice got It this entire s SMP is so pretty it really is I’m sure they paid a lot of money for it I’m assuming this is the correct Island right faction Island it does say about there and going east but I’m pretty sure it’s not that way I’m pretty Sure it must be this island and then it’s the spes here so there are spes on the Northwestern um so the tallest one is this one straight ahead of me I Think which one was it that one there you go it’s in there nice ooh lovely treasure I’ll leave it as Cobblestone so people know where to look makes it easier for them do it do you have a dedicated playlist for this that we can listen to on our own I on top of it let’s go although it was a little bit different to work on because when I scaled it up like you know one to one or I guess Really by 200% it ended up being a little bit too big so it’s not actually Pixel Perfect compared to the original so it means that in some places you can see see how like it almost looks like one pixel there but then you’ve got a singular one there it almost looks like A half pixel so actually a lot of the design is two pixels tall and then in some areas I’ve thinned it out with shading that’s only one pixel deep um so we took a little bit of took a little bit of work but it got There in the end I think it looks all right right let’s get ourselves back to faction Island what have I missed your purple now so what you’ve missed is that I am the owner of the sunset Stone the sunset Stone has been slowly but surely losing Its power then it got a little bit of resurgence of power and then it lost it again um and after the interaction that I had with Appo um Gracie and quvo in relation to cppy where we were trying to interrogate cppy because all of our friends keep getting kidnapped and Frozen and stoned and stuff like that basically I fell
